TWSBI Vac700R (EF) Iris review

Rainbow Greatness!

This was my first TWSBI pen, and the rainbow appointments are definitely what drew me to it. I mean, look at that trim! I got the extra fine nib, and it writes smoothly with the perfect hint of feedback. It has a smooth, cylindrical barrel, but the cap and the end of the pen/vacuum screw part are faceted, which makes for a cool aesthetic. The acrylic is completely clear/transparent, too, no cloudiness aside from the inner cap, which is actually almost completely clear itself. The fact that it has a two-tone silver/rainbow nib is super cool and rather impressive as well.

It took a minute to get used to the whole keep-the-back-unscrewed-if-you-want-to-write-for-a-while thing, so I had a few hard starts in the beginning, but once I figured it out, all went well after that (so that was totally user error in the beginning haha). I first inked it up with Robert Oster Dusky Pink. The ink is rather dark, but it still looked really neat in the clear demonstrator barrel (it did not cling to the sides); the flow was about average and performed well. I've now got it inked up with Sailor Ink Studio 731—a pretty bright, but dark pink, and you can definitely see the color in its fullest, which matches well with the pen's multicolor appointments. It clings to the sides as well, and is not doubt going to be tougher to clean out, but it also performs well in this pen with a similarly average flow. And speaking of cleaning, when I used up the RO Dusky Pink, even though I'd not used a vacuum filler before, it was pretty easy to clean out. No real issues at all. The pen holds a ton of ink, too, and it fills up pretty well. I don't know how much of a fill I got from a couple of pumps in the literal sense, but the ink reservoir is 2/3 full, and it's a large reservoir. You could go forever on just one fill. Anyway, I really like this pen and am super glad I was able to get it! ☾
