Fun Fact
Kazakhstan’s Minister of Communications and Informatics has blocked the Tumblr site because it contained 60 sites of terrorism, extremism, and pornography in 2015.
Mary is showing Frances this recipe, and Frances is intently listening, trying to take it all in. Mary explains how she sort of just eyeball the amounts and went onto the next step, stirring the pot. Frances nods with the same intent, but she is instantly thinking how she doesn't know at all how much Mary just poured into the pot. She didn't want to say anything to Mary; she'd figure it out. She didn't want Mary to get on her about cooking again. Mary peaked over at her little sister, she can just feel the confusion. She gives Frank a smile, a slight lil sly one, holding back a laugh and asks her if she "needs the measurements written down?" And Frances can't keep a concentrated face. She feels her cheeks grow warm and bursts into a large smile and a giggled out a "Yes please." Mary doesn't even tease her after this, she knows Frances is embarrassed enough. Mary laughs as well, leaning her head gently on her sister's own for a few moments before she puts most of her focus on her cooking again. Frances is Frances and Mary wouldn't ask for anything less.
The way stores get caught lying all the fucking time about fruits and vegetables…
Carrefour says that the dates come from Algeria. Except Algeria doesn’t produce Medjoul dates (we make Deglet Noor) so it is impossible that these dates come from Algeria. You know who export Medjoul dates to France? Morocco and “Israel”. Mainly “Israel”. So once again a French store is caught lying to avoid the boycott and to support the occupation of Palestine and the genocide of Palestinians without consequences.
(Reminder that Carrefour is a target of BDS so we’re boycotting regardless of their lies)
Again caught lying. This time it’s Auchan. The poster with the price says the avocados come from Portugal except the box says “Israel”.
In the video this time in Lidl you can see that the store says the avocados are from Columbia. Except at the person show it on the video the tag says “Origin: Israel”
Regarding avocados especially they lie all the fucking time. I actually stopped buying them because of the constant lies and because even in other countries it’s often produced at the expense of the local population using too much water to satisfy the needs of the West.
Either way I would suggest being super careful look at the box and tags not just what the store tells you. And if you live in France know that this is illegal and you can report all those instances to the DGCCRF (here). If you live elsewhere I suggest looking for the legislation and reporting those lies if you can.
Edit: if you know your local/national agency to report these kind of stuff don’t hesitate to share the link you can even send the agency name (not a link I’m not opening random anon links) in anon if you’re more comfortable and I’ll add it to the post.
Mary and Frances were born in Los Angeles, California. When they were younger, they spent some time in France but had to quit when WWII began. Amélie, their mom, heavily misses it and enjoys being able to be there when possible. Amélie only moved to America in her early 20's, (22 or 23). So only a couple years before she had Mary. Also, it's not like she doesn't like California. But let's say she never expected to move there fully. So she likes it when she can return home.
After the end of WWII, she would take her girls for annual summer vacation trips where they'd live there the entire summer and be around family. I'm debating on in their mid teenish years if they lived their for a year or so continuously or not. I'm still unsure. Also, their dad is very much in the picture. But, he has a job in Hollywood and is busy a lot. So, he can't always make it to trips with his family. So it was most often just the mom and their Nanny. When Mary is 18, she moves to Poughkeepsie, New York, to attend Vassar College. Frances, 16, moves with her and goes to a private school there her last 2 years. Their mother visits them regularly & dad whenever he's able. But, um, the Allain parents are maybe not the most reliable parents, but that's another post. This is just showing where they have lived throughout their childhood. And idk if I ever talked abt like a timeline of where they'd lived or their vacation traditions
Frances lifted up her head from her baby's soft hands, pretending to nibble on them causing the baby to giggles and kick his legs. He was her everything. Some days it still doesn't feel real, holding him in her arms, watching him do the most precious yawn, putting his absolute all into it. Seeing his tiny hands grip onto her finger. It almost feels impossible to believe she ever got to this point. But she did, and she's happy. She's where she wants to be. She has a wonderful husband who loves her and genuinely cares about her, who she loves just as much. It took a little bit, but she did find the love of her life.
She carefully picked up her son, and let him lay in her arms, softly humming to him, rocking him ever so slightly.
She was feeling particularly in her head today, she was thinking a lot about the past. Only a couple days ago did her and John's old anniversary pass. This caused her wondered how's he doing, how is work, is life treating him well. She thought about some of their good times, days out on the water, fancy dinners; even small moments, Frances ironing their clothes as John stood by her, sipping his whiskey, talking just about anything. Times were so good between them, but she couldn't ignore some of the bad they had too. Thinking of the bad, made her mind trail to Dante. And these lingered for awhile longer. Unlike with John, it's a lot easier thinking of just the bad with Dante. She remembers the shouting, his red face, and what came with that. She rarely ever let's herself hang on any good moments between them. She doesn't really think that's a bad thing. But sometimes she wishes she could think of some, so things wouldn't be so painful to remember.
Frances has to pull herself from these thoughts. All that is passed her now. Some for better and others for worse. She's has entered her late 20's, and she's very grateful for the life she has now. She wouldn't trade it for the world.
She gently lifted up her baby, giving his a soft kiss on the top of his head and slowly carried him back to his crib, her day continuing on.
