So here's the thing: Geordi created a holographic facsimile of a real woman that he'd never met for legitimate work-related reasons, and he accidentally fell in love with it. He himself realized that this was inappropriate and never did anything with the hologram after the immediate crisis was resolved. While, yes, he acted creepily towards the actual woman when he met her, and while yes, he got unpleasantly defensive when the real woman found out what was going on, this is enough for many fans to call him an "incel" and dislike the character.
Seven of Nine, meanwhile, *intentionally* created a romancible hologram of a man *she works with every day*, repeatedly used this hologram as a sex toy, and became so obsessed with it that it undermined her ability to perform her duties on the ship. She eventually stopped not because she'd decided it was inappropriate, but because her Borg hardware kicked in to prevent her from being too emotional. I have never seen anyone say they dislike the character for this reason, and most people politely overlook the whole episode when considering her character.
This is not, I must stress, an anti-Seven of Nine post. I LIKE Seven of Nine. By the same token, I also like Geordi La Forge, and the double-standard in fan reactions is quite apparent.
I absolutely adore episode 3 of the Last of Us… but I’m hoping (however unlikely) that randomly in each future episode we cut back to Bill and Frank’s place, now abandoned, just to see random raiders or infected get absolutely trounced by one of Bill’s traps.
Like, “and now a trap moment from Bill and Frank.”
