Description: They’ve fallen for each other, but now that Shuuichi dared to get his hopes up, Kokichi sent him a letter as a goodbye message. Bewildered and confused why he’d suddenly want to leave and effectively end their rivalry, the detective chases after his favourite thief once again!

Simple words had brought him here. Rows of letters strung together in an attempt to make sense, yet he had been unable to comprehend the words written. ‘ Why would you go? ’, Shuuichi kept asking himself over and over as he read the thief’s farewell message. Something about his job being done, the boredom driving him elsewhere.

The bitterness hidden between the lines revealed them to be lies.

“ Ouma-kun! ”

Pale fingers were outstretched as he tried to catch up to him. His heart pounded hard against his ribcage and his breath came ragged, strained from his continued running in the cold. He had carelessly pushed people aside and was followed by complaints, but the hand he craved desperately to hold was so close. Just a little more‒

“ What do you think you’re doing? ”

His hand was slapped away. Kokichi had spun on his heels, luggage in one hand and a silent threat in the other. Lavender eyes met gold. The thief’s brows were knit together in frustration and his gaze was piercing, as if Shuuichi’s presence were nothing but an eyesore. He felt petrified, helpless.

“ I ask for one favour and this is what I get? Honestly, you’re nothing but a disgrace. I thought you respected me, but it seems I was wrong ”, Kokichi spat harsh words at him, each syllable dripping with annoyance. Yet, he had stopped walking.

People were staring but Shuuichi didn’t care. The salty winds coming from the sea were biting and he struggled to catch his breath.

“ You can’t go! ”, Shuuichi called out. He wanted to grab his wrist but hesitated, fearing Kokichi might slip through his fingers if he tried, losing purchase. “ We’re not finished! ”

“ I told you I’m leaving because we are. You’re not even doing your job right. Where are the handcuffs, hm? ” Kokichi never rejected him. “ I’m a little busy, as you can see, so can you kindly fuck off? ” He never would with sincerity.

Shuuichi had to believe. If he wanted to convince him, then he had to give it his all. No unnecessary emotions, but solid arguments. He shook his head. Realisation had kindled a flame in his eyes strengthened his resolve.

“ No. That’s wrong ”, words that visibly infuriated Kokichi, but he continued. “ I’m not here for work. We may be enemies, but… today I’m here as your friend. ” The thief snorted and threw his hands in the air as if he wasn’t taking him seriously. It irked him, but he reminded himself not to falter.

“ Friends? You’re making me laugh! Did you think our connection meant something? If that’s the case, poor Mr. Detective must be delusional! ”, Kokichi taunted him with the bravado of a master thief such as himself. “ I acknowledge your competence, which is why I sent you that letter ‒ that’s it. If you’re looking for a tragic reunion, I’m not‒ ”

“ I care! I’m doing it because I care for you, Ouma-kun! When will you get it through that thick skull of yours? ”, his sentenced trailed off into a hiss, far too emotional for his taste. It was hard to force it down. “ Because… even if Ouma Kokichi is an insufferable, arrogant, know-it-all criminal, I’d chase you to the ends of the world…! ”

His heart skipped a beat. He expected to get a reply but wound up with none. Oppressive silence lingered between them. Despite the tension, Shuuichi’s shoulders slumped and the heat rose to his cheeks, painting them a rosy colour. Dammit. He didn’t want to say it like this. Kokichi was looking back at him with wide eyes and no emotion visible whatsoever. Just... waiting. Was he waiting? They stared at each other. Shuuichi couldn’t take it any longer.

“ Ah... are you doubting me? ”, he asked. Instead of anger, sadness stained his tone. “ It’s fine, but… I’m telling the truth. So hear me out. ” He clutched at his heart and felt tears pricking the corners of his eyes. “ If Ouma-kun leaves, it won’t be the same... when I said I won’t be able to keep my position, this isn’t what I meant. I don’t want you to go. I want you to stay, more than anything! I’m just worried we’ll be forced to... forced to end this. Whatever game it is we’re playing. ”

Before he got a chance to continue, Kokichi finally answered. Shuuichi expected his response to be dismissive yet was surprised with how gentle his voice sounded. Soothing and honest. Vulnerable, almost.

“ Because Saihara-chan isn’t showing results...? Because you’ll be taken off my case, is that it? But... if I go, you won’t have to worry about silly things like that. ”

That’s when he realised. Right now, Kokichi wasn’t scared of being near ‒ he was doing him a favour. Preventing the worst-case scenario before it became a possibility, planning ahead as always. It was typical and yet he had been so blind...

“ Can’t we come up with something together? ”

Shuuichi stepped closer. The tension seeped from Kokichi’s body and his bony hands slacked. The detective dared to grasp one of them carefully. Their touch was warm like a crackling fireplace in the middle of an icy winter. He was welcome here.

“ ...you’re worried, aren’t you, Ouma-kun? But... it’s worth it. To me, it is. I’ll prove it. ” He laced their fingers together in a silent, sickeningly sweet promise. Kokichi swallowed hard but let go of the bag in his other hand. It hit the ground with an uncomfortable thud, which went ignored by the two. “ Can’t you stay a little longer? I’d love that more than anything. ”

“ I… ”, the thief hesitated. With his eyes downcast, Kokichi took a step back. He shouldn’t be doing this. It was irrational. And yet, when he dared to glance at Shuuichi’s eyes, the fondness he saw felt like an arrow that struck his heart. Right where it hurt the most, right where it healed the most. He felt himself melt into the inviting warmth. The taller man noticed his inner struggle and encouraged him.

“ You don’t have to reply right away, Ouma-kun. But, if you could reconsider… it’d mean something. ”

It knocked the air out of Kokichi’s lungs. A cold breeze reminded him of the heat that warmed his cheeks. Finally, he dared to step closer. One step, two steps, until Shuuichi opened his arms wide to offer an embrace. It was an invitation, nothing more than that.

He took it. He cut the distance between them and a dam of emotions broke inside his heart, flooding his body with a deep-seated longing. Kokichi wrapped his arms around him tight and Shuuichi returned it. Both held onto one another as if their life depended on it.

“ Thank you… ”

The words left Kokichi’s lips in a whisper. Shuuichi’s body shook against him with a relieved chuckle as he nuzzled purple strands of hair. The luggage had been forgotten and so was the ship that set sail in the distance. A decision like this was too heavy to make overnight.

Maybe they were meant to fare together instead.

“ Thank you, too… ”

–    “ Y-You want to play a game with me? Alright, uhm- I don’t think I mind having a second player actually! “ 

The meek gamer chirped as he shuffled through one of his backpacks, seemingly as if he was trying to search for something. Ah! There it is! A spare controller he had just in case he needed one. Soon he would get on his legs and plug the controller into the console before handing it over to them. 

At first, he was a bit nervous to have someone else inside his dorms with him, especially since one of his classmates asked if they could work on something in his dorms with someone. Since he could just do his own thing in the background, he doesn’t exactly mind it…That’s until they got inside. But when they seemed to have taken an interest with what he was doing, Of course, he was playing a video game, his eyes were glued to the screen as he tried to beat the level. Honestly, just by looking at the gameplay and how fast his fingers would move, it seemed as if he might have been a pro at this.

  Well, he is called the SHSL Gamer, so it isn’t exactly a surprise.

Besides, playing video games often relieves his stress levels, and it would usually distract him from anything that might have been upsetting him. The only downside is that he would be extremely invested and spend hours and hours just playing the game. There have been times where he’d finish a game in one sitting, which also meant he likely didn’t get enough sleep…But to him, it was clearly worth it. 

   “ Have you played this game before? I-It only just recently came out eheh…But it’s the 4th one in the series, perhaps you might have heard of it? “ 

Shuichi chimed as he would navigate his controller to the co-op option in the game just so he could let the other play. It was beginning to get a bit exciting already, albeit, nerve-wracking but exciting.  

   “ I did play this game a lot…But i-if you’d like, I can go a bit easy just so you can catch up and get the hang of it! “    –

Oh, boy! I’d have to say Simon Keyes from AAI2! I love his theme, his craziness and the fact that he faked his breakdown once. He’s just amazing!

Honestly, I feel you. It gets so annoying how some people can't grasp the concept that not every character is going to be PERFECT. A character is always going to do certain actions that they shouldn't had done: but that shouldn't ALWAYS mean they are just completely unforgivable and irredeemable! And it's especially annoying when some people be like 'how could you like that character when they did x' as if it's impossible to like a character and STILL acknowledge they're not perfect.

I feel like that is a big problem on this website especially.  It’s become so all-or-nothing/black-and-white that it loses the middle ground so quickly.  And with it, to me, interpretations of narrative and characters have suffered as a result.  When everyone is trying their hardest to make sure that x character remains a “pure smol cinnamon roll too good for this world” and y character is basically the devil incarnate when both are actually just human beings who have both good and bad in them?  It makes it so that people can easily misconstrue things and completely overlook or erase certain character traits that do not fit that black-and-white narrative. 

Nahyuta is a great example of this - people who basically claim he’s a war criminal (which...I’ve already explained is wrong in the political science sense) erase his status as a big brother and son who was used due to his fierce attempt to protect them.  He’s no longer a victim, he’s a perpetrator, because if he’s a victim then it makes his actions less clear in terms of what can be done to sort of help those who were his victims (really Ga’ran’s, but he was the middle-man, in a way).  It’s easier to say “just prosecute him as a war criminal” than to acknowledge that he was someone who was basically held at metaphorical gunpoint and had to choose to save people he loved.  It also erases his hopelessness/implied depression, which I find troubling - he basically lost all hope that anything could be done to stop Ga’ran (again, an absolute monarch who was perceived as legitimate until you reveal her as a non-medium) and so did what he thought was necessary to make sure Amara and Rayfa were safe. 

And then of course, getting back to just tumblr in general, it is as you say - you can acknowledge that a character you like isn’t perfect and has character flaws.  Those flaws make them more human.  And god forbid you like a villain and actually do want to see a redemption arc of some kind for them.  Not all villains need one, and not all villains “deserve” one, but to me it says something to want to see someone actually become a better person.  To explore their motivations beyond just “this person is terrible” and see if you can change those in a more positive direction. 

(This is why when that post about not giving villains a redemption arc or something was going around, I rolled my eyes a lot. ) 

Usually I don’t personally like the best those characters who are “perfect” by fandom or narrative structure.  (Side note: I find this discussion interesting especially since it is a turnover in fandom, since the idea of perfect characters usually came to cries of Mary and Gary Stus with people just condemning them to hell and back.)  Even in AA, my top faves include Simon, Edgeworth, Kristoph, and Bobby/the Phantom.  None of these characters are perfect cinnamon rolls (not even Miles, as much as I claim how wonderful he is), but to me they are interesting and have interesting motivations and if they were “pure” I would probably find them less interesting.  Of these, I can get away with Simon and Edgeworth, but people sometimes fight me on Kristoph and on the Phantom (real!Bobby gets a pass).  Like trust me, I know they are not good people.  They’re interesting characters in my eyes, and that’s why I like them.  And their backstories are mysteries in terms of canon, so I like to explore that to see what makes them tic.  And if I wanted a redemption story for characters like these?  It isn’t me saying “what they did in the past was no big deal.”  It’s more me asking what it would take to pull them from that sort of mindset into becoming a potentially better person.  This doesn’t mean their previous crimes are erased.  It just means maybe they can eventually show remorse over it.  Maybe.

(Really I just love grey villains like they are the best, redemption arc or no.)

“I’m not going back to jail!”

Shuichi’s sides were starting to burn from running aroundand laughing his lungs out. His and his uncle’s home wasn’t too spacious, butKokichi made up for it with his lithe body. Maybe it was unexpected to seeShuichi like this - with a dazzling smile on his face and play fighting withsomeone like Kokichi out of all people, chasing him. But to him, it made sensemore than anything else. It only took a blink of an eye and they were foolingaround with each other. That was just how easily Kokichi lifted his spirits andeases his worries. 

“You won’t escape me this time, Ouma-kun! Don’t you-wheh!” 

Just when his arms shot forward to wrap themselves tightaround the prankster, Kokichi side-stepped him and briefly tickled his sides.Though when he spun on his heels to get revenge, Kokichi had already jumped onhis bed. Bouncing up and down with a toothy grin on his face, he shook hissmall fists in excitement. 

“Catch me, catch me! C’mon, c’mon!”

Shuichi caught his breath and gaped at him, before hesteeled his nerves and stepped on the bed. For a long moment their eyes lockedonto each other. The intensity summoned prickling tension between them, thecalm before the storm. Shuichi took the initiative to step closer, trying toget the best of him. He only caught a glimpse of a smirk on Kokichi’s lips ashe twisted his body to escape his grasp, which sent Shuichi stumbling on themattress. Attempts were made, all failures.

Though when Shuichi changed his tactic and grasped thehem of his shirt instead, Kokichi lost balance and fell face forward. Hesqueezed his eyes shut and braced his arms for the impact, struggling to turnonto his back immediately.

“Got you.”

“Huh?”

Shuichi’s palms were pressing down on Kokichi’sshoulders, pushing him into the mattress. As both were catching their breath,Kokichi’s mouth stood agape in shock. This was probably the first time he had managedto catch him during one of their games. Not that he minded, but this…

“My, my. Shumai’s sure feeling bold today, isn’t he? Whatare you gonna do to me next, huh?”

Shuichi’s brows furrowed before his ears heated up inrealisation. He was hovering above and pinning him down on his shoulders, ofcourse Kokichi was going to make a joke about it. As if to deny the verypossibility, he violently shook his head. But he didn’t let go.

“Th… that’s not it at all! …but, Icaught you, just like I promised. That’s what you wanted, right?”

“Ehhh… I don’t know about that…”, Kokichi hummed as hesmiled up to him, neither confirming nor disagreeing with it. His heart waspounding in his chest, not only from exhaustion, admittedly.

Shuichi was so pretty like that. His eyes shone in agentle, golden shade. Thick lashes stood against his cheeks and dishevelled,raven hair framed his heated face perfectly. Their breaths calmed down inunison and Kokichi realised they were still staring at each other. Gazingat each other, without saying a word. He realised he could do this all day.Just looking at someone, being with someone in silence, without being bored…

“Ah.”

When he awoke from his dreamy trance, their faces weremuch closer than before. The grasp on Kokichi’s shoulders was gone. Shuichi’s warmbreath tickled his skin and sent a pleasant shiver down his spine. Hesitantly,he wrapped his arms around his back… and gave an almost unnoticeable nod whenShuichi glanced at his lips. As if they were something precious, not to be touchedby anyone unworthy. As if he were the sun himself.

That was impossible though. When their lips finallytouched in a careful, experimental caress, Kokichi felt like he was melting. Hisheartbeat leapt in his throat when he leaned in to reciprocate and his eyes hadfallen shut to enjoy the moment. Maybe it wasn’t going to last long. Maybe not…but Shuichi’s soft lips against his own felt endless.

Shuichi had pulled back, but their lips were stillhovering next to each other. Kokichi decided to be courageous and threaded hisfingers through his dark hair.

“…Shumai…”

“…Kokichi.”

His name. Shuichi had never used his given name before.Especially not like that. When their foreheads touched, a shaky exhale left Kokichi’slips. They were gazing into each other as if trying to unravel what lay beforethem.

“I love you, Kokichi…”

“…Shuichi.”

A smile tugged on Shuichi’s lips. When he leaned in tokiss him once more, he knew that was answer enough.

5. Favourite ship?

idk if anyone’s heard off it… but it’s Narumitsu. Their relationship is so multidimensional, and even if it’s not canon, their possibility to become canon is not far fetched. They have an undying trust bond for each other, they will always listen to each other and respect each other. They’re the perfect rivalry, and they’re life long partners against crime in the courtroom. Neither can do it without the other, they’re reliant on each other’s strengths to counter their weakness, and that’s something only real partners can do.

I’m gonna take a different slant and say villain and how well they’re written. in that case, for me, is Matt Engarde. I hate this man so much, but because of how he’s written and how far he’s gone to torment Phoenix and basically drag him to his knees, it’s remarkable how he’s managed that by pulling strings so effectively. He created a master plot which if honestly, if Edgeworth never returned to guide Phoenix from the dark path he was stuck on thanks to Engarde, it would of trapped Phoenix for eternity. I hate this man, and I hate him for the amazing writing that makes him a genuine villain. Ga’ran can learn from him, just saying.

23. Investigations or trials?

I CAN’T DECIDE OH FUCK. I LOVE THEM BOTH EQUALLY. THEY HAVE SO MANY BENEFITS AND DRAWBACKS, I CAN’T PICK. I mean, the investigations show us the vast world these characters live in, and each location is so different, it’s amazing. The trials show how these locations can really make each case that little bit different, and it’s so difficult to pick, I simply can’t.

11. “You came back!”

How long has it been since Apollo left her all alone in the Agency? About eight months, she reckoned. Maybe it was even more than that. She had lost track of time. Of course, they communicated through Skype and other social media from time to time.

But it still wasn’t enough for Athena. She wanted to see him, hug him, take in his scent and hear him practice his Chords of Steel again. It was obvious that she missed him a little too much for a friend. Truth is, she had a big crush on him, and while she could hear his true feelings over the computer, she was sure it was just a ruse.

Why would he feel the same, anyway? She wasn’t that special, right?

Knock, knock.

“Huh?” Who could it be at this hour? It was well past 2 pm. Maybe a new client? She could use a new case. Dusting off her clothes a little, she bounced on her feet and beamed before opening the door.

“Welcome to the-- AH! Apollo! You came back!” she gasped; her smile grew bigger as she wasted no time hugging him as tight as she could.

Apollo, on the other hand, chuckled and did the same. “Surprised? Thought I’d drop by to see how you guys are doing. I missed you.” he smiled.

“I-I missed you too...!” One second in and she’s already crying, but only for a few seconds. “Well, come in! I’ll get you some coffee-”

“Hold on, Tiger.” he protested. “I’ve got something to tell you first.”

“...Oh? What is it?”

“...I love you. I’ve... wanted to tell you for a long time, and Nahyuta finally convinced me to do it, so, I came back to tell you. You’re the most gorgeous, funny and charming girl I’ve met...” Besides, he knew he couldn’t hide his feelings any longer or she’d find out in seconds.

“H-Huh?!” Now, her face was as red as a tomato. Did he just confess to her? “A-Apollo...” A short pause to gather her thoughts. “...I love you too.” A relieved smile appeared on her lips. Soon, despite the fact he was beet-red, the man closed the gasp between them and kissed her. It was only a few seconds long, but oh so sweet.

This moment was just perfect for the two of them. Finally together after months of separation.

Yeah, this fandom unfortunately has quite a few people that are just... straight up nasty, bitter people who don't make this fandom seem like a nice, welcoming place at all and I hate it, too, honestly. *big hug* Tho I hope you'll feel better soon, bby! And yeah, whoever or whatever is making you feel sad or angry, just do your best to ignore them and even block them if you have to.

Yeah and I guess if some of them weren’t the fandom Bigs I would be less like...I guess affected but I guess I just get very existential (if that’s the right word) when I see that sort of behaviour rewarded and stuff.  idk.  I guess I also see it in other fandoms too and I just get meh about it all
