I mean the case in the article is pretty straightforward:

"after 2.5 months of poor performance"

"After repeatedly missing meetings, not completing work, and keeping their camera consistently turned off, "

"holding two synchronous, 9-to-5 positions is different than having a side-hustle or moonlighting"

The two engineers are in the wrong.

As for "overall idea of working two full time remote jobs", I mean in theory it is fine and seems very practical, but in practice, it is much more challenging to be commonly feasible without negatively impacting one.

Most jobs have overlapping schedules.

Most people have specialized skill sets and areas of expertise; therefore there is a significant likelihood of conflicting positions.

Employment contracts are generally very vague and ambiguous that it would make it almost impossible to not have a negative impact.

If there are no more tasks for you to do, then you should have no worries with telling your supervisor/manager, so they can let you go for the day (i.e. establishing it as "free time"). Unfortunately, the reality is that there is almost always more work that can be done for most positions: documentation, training, CPE's, review, assisting teammates, assisting other teams, future work, low priority projects, etc.

I'm hoping to start a drop-in "try this course" thing at my agility club this year. I'll build a course from a different agility organization and whoever wants to can come run it.

Going to do a lot of NADAC courses, but I might throw in some CKC. Maybe CPE?

Are there any other organizations I should look at for interesting or different courses? My club runs AAC, has an IDAL team, and has started hosting UKI too. I think USDAA is pretty similar to AAC, but with tighter more awkward courses, so I don't think I'll look at that. I don't know if AKC is similar to CKC? I assume so?

Honestly I *might* just do NADAC courses, since they prioritize nice and flowing courses with no weird angles. I would love to see interest in NADAC take off around here. I know it's pretty popular out West, but not so much in Ontario.

I do really want to do more "games" courses that we don't have in AAC. So something other than Gamblers, Snookers, Jumpers, or Steeplechase. IDAL actually does a lot of fun games that I've never seen before, which is nice. I also really want to maybe run a Teams games night, where everything is a pairs course and your partner is randomly assigned. AND I kinda want to run an Updog fun night to see if I could drum up interest in that at the club.

I would honestly run so many fun free things at the club if I was allowed to, but everything always has to go through the board and SOMEONE always has to be a naysayer. 🙄 Lemme just tell ya, it's a miracle I've got Hoopers off the ground. And even now that I've won that, promises of equipment are being backtracked on, and it's really annoying..

Texas Humanties ... WTF? Taylor Swift in the Literature Classroom

In July, Humanities Texas will offer online teacher professional development programs for social studies and English language arts teachers.

Taylor Swift in the Literature Classroom (Summer 2024 Webinar)

On July 8, 2024, Humanities Texas will hold a webinar for English language arts (ELA) teachers comparing the work of one of today's most recognizable songwriters and performers, Taylor Swift, and commonly taught poetic texts and traditions in the secondary-level curriculum.

The webinar will take place over Zoom from 10:00–11:30 am CT on Monday, July 8, 2024.

Content will be aligned with the TEKS.

The program for English language arts teachers will compare the work of one of today's most recognizable songwriters and performers, Taylor Swift, and commonly taught poetic texts and traditions (lyric, dramatic, and narrative) in the secondary-level curriculum.

The program will provide strategies for finding ways to engage middle and high school students by showing how this pop-music icon uses traditional genres, motifs, and figures found in literary texts that seem remote from hers.

Participants will also investigate the ways in which she uses fairly familiar middle and high school texts as the basis or reference points for some of her writing.

Teachers are encouraged to share ideas with others hoping to incorporate Swift into their classroom instruction.

Like all Humanities Texas teacher programs, the webinar will emphasize close interaction with scholars, the examination of texts, and the development of effective pedagogical strategies and engaging assignments and activities.

Faculty

Elizabeth Scala of The University of Texas at Austin will lead the webinar.

Eligibility

The webinar is open to secondary-level English language arts teachers in Texas schools. Attendance and CPE Credit

The online program is free to teachers and their schools. Participants will receive CPE credit and a wealth of curricular materials.

CPE hours will be based on Zoom attendance and adjusted if a participant misses any portion of the program.

In order to attend the webinar and receive CPE credit, you must be a registered participant.
