Cuter Then Puppies
Walter (Keys) McKey x Girlfriend Reader
Summary: his thoughts about you as you fall asleep on his chest
Warning: kinda short
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3rd person pov
His eyes where locked on the TV, the bizarre movie you had chosen had peaked his interest one of his hands that was settled on your back drew aimlessly different patterns in a calm manner.
"Baby" he murmured his eyes drifting to you, his breath catching as he noticed your closed eyes and relaxed features he layed a gentle kiss on your head 'dork' he smiled to himself it was a regular occurrence when you picked a movie you fell asleep and he would have to carry you to bed.
But today he couldn't move his eyes back to the movie, he admired every inche of you ever though you might not yourself, you drooled slightly with your mouth agape letting out soft snores making him chuckle silently.
Your hair was missing up as you snuggled into his chest you always complained how you were cold all the time and he was his own heater so each night you would cuddle him closely.
He gently adjusted himself grabbing his phone tht was beside him, he stretched put his arm so he could snap a picture of your sleeping face he grinned to himself and brought the phone back to him looking at the picture.
Keys made it his home screen wallpaper since he already had one with both you and him on one of the dates he took you on to his favorite café, you were kissing his cheek and his cheeks were blood red.
He put his phone away and gently placed both his hands back on your lower back he wanted to stay like this forever here with you, you were the only one other then millie that understand him.
That's why in his locked draw of his desk in his office was a small black box with a small not with 'will you be my player two' with a diamond ring inside and on the inside of the ring there was an engraving of your guys anniversary date.
"I hope you say yes because I don't think I could live without you by my said"

okay wait so about the request thing…I love angst, so like…maybe an angst Keys thing? Whether it’s hurt/comfort or hurt/no comfort you can pick! Also feel free to ignore this if you don’t want to do it :)
Tumblr media
Keys spends his whole work day trying to make you feel better after you two get in a fight — keys x fem!reader angst & fluff
warnings: a bit of angst/fighting, but a lot of fluff tbh
words: 1k
a/n: to the requester, I'm sorry if this wasn't exactly what you wanted but I still like the result and I hope you do too
Tumblr media
You slammed your headset against your desk, causing your keyboard to clatter and your mouse to fall down onto the floor, but you didn’t care about any of that.
“I’m going on my break now.” You announced angrily, then took off down the hall.
You stormed past Mouser on the way, who had no idea about the precursor to your current meltdown.
“What the hell’s up with her?” He asked as he sat down and rolled the chair closer to his desk.
Keys was already standing up to follow you and answer that very question. “I’m not sure. I’ll be back in a minute.”
He followed you across the floor to the snack room, where you were attempting to calm yourself down by making a cup of tea. The door was still swinging behind you, but he closed it more gently once he came in.
“What was that? What’s going on?” Keys asked you.
“I should be asking you that.” You retorted.
He just looked at you with a puzzled face, his stupid confused face. “What are you talking about? What did I do?”
“You made me look like an idiot back there! I was trying to get that guy and you were just completely overtaking the operation!”
“We got him, so what does it matter if we used my strategy or yours?”
“Because you think I’m stupid. Is it so unreasonable to be upset that my best friend thinks I’m incompetent?”
He just looked even more confused than before now. “I could never think that about you.”
Your water had finished boiling, so you poured the water into your mug. “Well, you ignored everything I said so you could go and kill him by yourself. We should have been working together.”
He sighed and ran a hand through his hair. “Look, I’ve had to deal with this asshole before, I’m so tired of having to go after the same guy over and over. I’ve learned how to handle him, so I know how to go about things in the most efficient way. I’m sorry I took over the operation, I promise I won’t do it again.”
You emptied out a sugar packet into your drink, still mad at him but less so than a few minutes ago. You sighed as you threw out the paper package.
“You can start making it up to me by volunteering to file the paperwork for banning him from Free City.”
He seemed relieved with your proposition. “Yeah, absolutely! Will do.”
“Good.” You moved past him and opened the door to leave, steadily carrying your hot beverage. “And I’m on break right now but you’re not, so you better get on that.”
✦✧✦✧✦
You hadn’t spoken to Keys since your argument in the snack room. It’s hard enough to completely ignore him on a day when you’re not at work, but it was so much worse when he was sitting right across from you.
You got a confirmation notification on your computer screen about the ban paperwork that Keys had apparently just filed. Not even three seconds after you both received the message, your coworker had already stood up so he could speak over the glass partition between you two.
“Did you see I wrote up the slip to get him banned?” He asked you urgently.
You answered without even looking at him. “Yep, thanks for that.”
He didn’t sit back down. Keys just kept looking at you like he was waiting for something.
“Do you want a pat on the back or something, Keys?”
“Do you forgive me now?”
You sighed and finally looked at him beyond just seeing him out of your peripheral vision. “I said I’d think about forgiving you. I’m still a bit pissed at you.”
He slumped back into his chair, then went back to his computer. A few seconds later, you got another push notification.
Curious, as it had Keys’ name attached, you clicked on the little pop-up. It opened 2 messages from the man. The first was him apologising once more, and the second was a semicolon and closed bracket forming a little smiley face.
Even though you weren’t all that mad at him, you still didn’t react to the small yet altogether cute gesture. You thought it would be fun to see what else he does to get you to forgive him.
One more message floats up onto your screen. “Is it working?”
You typed a message in reply. “Sort of. Keep going.”
✦✧✦✧✦
Throughout the day, Keys had dropped off several snacks on your desk, stuck up multiple post-it notes adorned with fun doodles on the glass partition between you, and sent you many more sweet messages.
If you were being honest, you had forgiven him after the second gesture. If Keys was being honest, he had figured that out about an hour ago. But now it was the end of your work day, and Keys just had to make sure you two were okay.
You were finishing up your last few emails of the day, and Keys had walked over to your side of the desk clump.
“Okay, I know you’re busy, but I really don’t want us to end the day on bad terms. Have you forgiven me yet?” He asked desperately.
“That depends.” You told him, a soft smirk gracing your face. “Do you have one more offer or did you just come here to beg on your knees?”
He wasn’t on his knees beside your chair with his hands clasped together, so that kind of gave you the answer, but he answered anyway.
“Will you forgive me if I buy you dinner? There’s that new Italian place down the street; we can go tonight and I’ll pay, even if it’s crazy expensive.”
You tried holding back the giddy smile you felt coming on because of his offer, but you were sure that the expression was peeking through your facade.
“That kind of sounds like a date.” You played innocent. “Keys, are you asking me out?”
“That depends. Have you forgiven me yet?”
“Not quite sure, I think you’ll have to take me out, and I’ll let you know soon.”

His Favorite Employees | Keys x Reader (x Antwan)
Prompt: Enemies to Lovers
Words: 1540
Fandom: Free Guy
A/N: I don’t know how to explain myself, but Antwan and Keys were my favorite in the movie. Antwan’s still an asshole, but dialed down a bit. He’s got a type, and it’s snarky computer nerds. Reader’s nickname is Screens because I thought it’d be cute to have them be Mouse(r), Keys, and Screens.
Summary: Reader worked with Millie and Keys on Life Itself until it got buried by Soonami. You and Keys can’t afford to join Millie in the lawsuit and begrudgingly start to work under Soonami, keeping your heads down as much as possible. It was all pointless when your boss kept bothering you two anyways.
-
“Screens! Why don’t you convince Loreal to join programming with you, huh?” Your boss asked, leaning against your desk.
Your eyes left your triple monitor setup, that you insisted on having for work, for a second to look up at him before going back to your coding. “Why don’t you convince him yourself once he’s back from lunch if you’re so adamant about it?” you countered.
You stopped caring about how you spoke to him about half a year after you started working at Soonami. If anything, he enjoyed it. Even Keys unleashed his snarkiness, lasting at least a year under Antwan’s attention-seeking moments. He had no business roaming around the Customer's Complaints section when he didn’t care about it in the first place. He just wants the game to keep running and the cash to keep flowing.
“Well, he’s your boyfriend, isn’t he?”
“Why does that matter? Checking if one of us is single? Highly inappropriate, boss,” you said flatly. “How ‘bout you move our new project forward and I’ll think about talking to Keys about that promo?”
Your chair swung to the side, forcing you to fully face Antwan. There was a strange look on his face as he stared down at you. The floor was awfully quiet as they all held their breath. Antwan was known to fire people on a whim, but it brought them to wonder why he had not fired you or Keys yet. He, at least, had reasons to fire you both, but he also had reasons to keep you both. While you and Keys could turn on him and dig any kind of dirt up, both of you were also incredibly good at your jobs. It would be extremely difficult to replace even one of you.
His eyes narrowed as you stared back, silently daring him to make his move. He leaned forward, his long arms practically boxing you in in your chair as the corner of his lips turned up. Despite him constantly bothering you every workday, he never got into your space like this. You didn’t completely despise him, not like Millie, which you don’t fault her for, and you found your banters with him almost amusing on a good day.
You hated to admit that he possessed an unfairly amount of charisma and confidence that strung investors along and hooked in gamers so they could come back for more. He knew how to play the social game. Complete idiocy can’t build a big company like Soonami Studio.
It’s all over social media, people love Free City and fans are addicted to his interviews. People want more games and they like his personality, his humor, and you weren’t blind to the comments that mention his good looks. Another unfair trait of his that you hate to admit.
His fingers clenched on the back of your chair before spinning you. Your stomach lurched at the sudden movement, planting your feet down to stop the motion further. When the nausea subsided, you looked around and saw that Antwan had already left.
“What a prick,” you muttered. Hotness does not cancel out assholery.
“You’ve got balls of steel, Screens,” the programmer next to you mused.
You sighed tiredly. “Thanks, I guess. Gonna take a break. If Dickwad comes back, tell him I ran away.”
It’s been an hour since the office started closing up, workers leaving in small groups and cramming themselves in the elevator. You shut down your computer and packed your things before making your way over to Mouser and Keys. They were usually one of the few last ones to leave the office with Keys being the worst out of them all.
“Ready to go?” you asked Keys, hanging off his chair and resting your chin on top of his well cushioned head.
Keys grunted distractedly, finishing up his report of the recent glitch he just fixed. “Five more minutes,” he mumbled.
“How’s it going, Screens?” Mouser said, his head popping out from behind his computer monitor. “Heard what happened with you and Antwan today. Balls of steel for days, they said.”
“It wasn’t that extreme. Do you get the feeling that he’s getting worse, though?” you asked, sitting on the corner of Key’s desk.
“How so? You’d have to be more specific,” Keys said, finally pulling away from his computer and resting a hand on your thigh.
You shrugged. “Just being more of a hovering nuisance than usual. Did he bother you about the promotion yet?”
Keys nodded. “Yeah. Said I was too good to be stuck in customer complaints. Not sure why he wants me to. Technically, with both of us as programmers, we’d have an advantage to find evidence against him.”
“Why is he nicer to you?” you muttered. Keys smiled, squeezing your thigh in sympathy.
“Maybe it’s the hair?” Mouser pointed out.
You nodded sagely then turned to him. “Wanna get take-out with us?”
His face brightened. He jumped out of his chair and quickly stuffed his things in his bag. “God, I’m so hungry. Thought you’d never ask.”
You ran your fingers through Keys' hair, his shoulders relaxing immediately as he closed his eyes. “Come on, Keke. You can continue tomorrow,” you said softly.
“Alright.”
The three of you made your way to the elevator, the mental exhaustion of the day settling in with each floor that passed. Mouser and Keys talked amongst themselves about all the bugs they’ve found in Free City and the hackers they managed to hunt down and ban. You sighed, leaning your head on Keys’ shoulder. You felt him shift to fix his glasses before tilting his head to yours and entwining your fingers together.
“Thanks for reminding me how lonely I am, guys,” Mouser said.
“You’re welcome,” you and Keys answered.
Halfway through the lobby, the dreaded voice of Antwan Hovachelik echoed across the space, calling out for you and Keys. Mouser winced, patting Keys on the shoulder as he left to wait outside.
“What does he want this time?” Keys muttered.
Antwan strutted over, his ridiculous two-toned long coat in the middle of summer swishing against his long legs. Keys sighed in exasperation, crossing his arms as your boss stood in front of you two. He licked his lips as he readied a sassy comment and you did not miss Antwan’s eyes dropping to watch.
“If you give me on one more ridiculous -”
“Okay,” Antwan interrupted.
“Okay what?” you asked.
“Your new project,” he said, “Give me a thorough report on your game idea and I’ll let you test it out.”
“Right, so you can drop it again,” Keys said, “Stop messing with us. We’re not a part of Millie’s lawsuit, you don’t have to keep torturing us to quit or whatever it is you’re doing.”
Antwan frowned, stepping back with a twisted expression as if what he said was absurd. “I don’t want either of you to quit. It’ll be too boring if you do. They say not to choose favorites, but I guess I’ve done that here by even keeping you on. I’m letting you do your little project because the plebs want some variety in our games. Which means, more opportunity for money. Add in a gacha element if you have to. You deliver, I’ll give both of you a raise and whatever it is to your heart's content.”
“Even the source code to Life Itself?” you asked.
He smirked, leaning into your space for the second time today. “Even that. And if you screw this up, no more Life Itself, no more project opportunities, no more free instant ramen and endless supply of premium coffee in the break room, and no more jobs. Got it?”
“Got it,” Keys said, nudging you to answer.
“Yeah, I got it.”
Antwan nodded, deeming this conversation over. He spun around and headed out, slamming the glass doors open with both hands. “Antwan out!”
You rolled your eyes. As his figure disappeared, you pulled your phone out and stopped the voice recording. “I got everything.”
“Still not enough to prove that he’s using it in Free City.”
“No, but we’re getting there. At least we know that he still has it,” you pointed out as you and Keys made your way out of the lobby.
“True. Or he could be lying… because it’s Antwan.”
You gasped dramatically. “I thought we were his favorite employees!”
Keys rolled his eyes fondly, placing a hand on the small of your back as he held the door open for you. “Did I hear that right or did he also just admit that he had been the one stocking the break room with ramen and coffee?”
You shrugged. “Not like he’s pressed for money.”
“Yeah, but it's the fact that he even bothered to do it. Don’t you think it’s kind of a coincidence that they didn’t appear until we were complaining about how it was always instant coffee and pop tart boxes that always had one or two left inside in the break room? And he bought specific brands and flavors, too. Our favorites.”
“I think… you’re overthinking this.”
“Am I? I’m sure you’ve thought of this, too.”
“Of what?”
Keys hesitated, his mouth opening and closing, then he shook his head. “Nothing. Nevermind.”

Driver's License | Keys
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You decide to tease your friend after seeing his real name on his ID — coworker!keys x reader fluff
warnings: alcohol consumption since the oneshot takes place at a bar
words: 0.8k
a/n: this is my first keys fic and I know this is niche as hell but i've been obsessed with him lately so expect more lol
Tumblr media
The bar was one of the more popular ones—which means there’s sometimes a line outside in the cold—but it was the one you always went to because it was walking distance from work. You, Keys, and Mouser stood in line shivering and wondering what was taking so damn long.
“Should we just go somewhere else?” You asked the guys.
“No, it’s fine.” Keys answered. “We’re almost at the front anyways.”
Mouser looked like he was about to say otherwise, but then dropped his protests. “Keys, can you like, stand on your toes and see what’s going on?”
He obliged and stood up as tall as he could, looking for the front of the line. After a few seconds of the most perfect posture you’d ever seen on your friend, he slumped back down to his normal height.
“It’s not the regular bouncer. This one’s checking, like, everyone’s IDs for five minutes each.” Keys explained, pulling out his wallet already.
You held back a laugh at the obvious hyperbole and thanked him for the update on what was taking this line so long to move.
Keys was right; you were actually close to the front of the line. It was still unbearably cold and it wasn’t even winter yet. Keys saw your discomfort and wrapped an arm around you. Maybe that was more than a coworker slash friend should do, but hey, you work at a video game company: nothing was really like other workplaces.
Once you were finally at the doors, the new bouncer asked for IDs from all three of you—which you thought was ridiculous because none of you looked like you were minors—and thoroughly scanned each one of them.
Yours was first, and maybe the quickest. Mouser showed his ID next, and then it was Keys’ turn. The worker looked at his driver’s license for longer than he had yours and Mouser’s, then passed it back to Keys with the card in between his index and middle finger.
Keys seemed to be in a rush to put it back into his wallet, and when you caught a glimpse of it as he shut the leather flaps, you understood why.
Your friend had never told you his real name before. Come to think of it, you weren’t sure he’s told anyone. What was perhaps his biggest secret was now in your hands, and there were infinite possibilities on what to do with it.
You kept quiet while the group picked a booth to sit at, then went up to order a round of kamikaze shots to start the night off with a bang. After you’d all taken one shot together, Mouser went off to use the washroom, leaving just you and Keys together.
Impatient as always, you had decided now was the time to do something with your newly acquired information. Biting back a smile, you tried to act as inconspicuous as possible.
“You know what?” You started. “I know we still have a round of shots, but I’m gonna head up to the bar and get something with as many maraschino cherries as they’ll let me have. Do you want anything?”
He shook his head, smiling at your drink request. “No, I’m alright. I’ll stay here.”
You stood up, bringing a dollar bill from your purse to tip the bartender. “Okay, I’ll be back, Walter.”
He didn’t even notice your use of his name at first. But when your words played back over in his head—as most things you say to him do—his eyes widened and he shot up from the seat.
“How did you— I don’t tell people my real name.” Keys said softly but urgently.
You smiled at him. “I know. I saw it on your driver’s license outside. I just wanted to tease you a bit since I’m now one of the only people in the world who knows it.”
“You are.” He confirmed. “Just, please don’t use it at work or anything. I just think it’s embarrassing.”
“More embarrassing than ‘Keys’?” You giggled. You started walking towards the bar, and he followed closely behind. “You don’t need to worry, though. I like being the keeper of your secret.”
Relief washed over his face. “Thank you.”
You waved over one of your favourite bartenders, then brought your attention back to Keys. “Just for the record, I actually like your real name. It’s like a cute old man you live next to and bring in the newspaper for.”
He bit the inside of his cheek and stood up from the barstool. “You know, just for that, I do want a drink. You’re buying it for me.”
You rubbed his upper arm to confirm there was nothing bad between you. “I’ll surprise you, Walt.” You told him as he walked back to your booth.
Unsurprisingly, you were met with his turned back and a middle finger flipped at you.
