i love websites like freecycle so much i love communities coming together to fight against corporate and consumer waste

i just got a free printer that woulda been like 200 bucks new, along with some advice on how to keep it off the network so hp doesnt lock it down if we dont buy their stupid ink. genuinely, the goodness of everyday people makes me so so happy

#i mean a lot of the stuff on freecycle is stuff i wouldnt want #one mans trash may be another mans treasure but its not MY treasure #but every once in a while its like 'oh shit! i really need that actually!'

#v posts #when i look at tags on a post and people are like “what's this from?” when they could just. open the tags and find out in seconds #bc someone's definitely tagged it as [the thing]#or the freecycle app i use when ppl post “looking for [item]” when they could use the search bar and find plenty of ppl giving that item #i sometimes try to be helpful and send a message to tell them “hey look here” or “this is from x”#but man is it exhausting. everyone just wants info to come to them rather than putting any extra effort into looking

Look who got an IV pole for free

Like Undertaker, I got this from wealthy old people who think they are helping the medical community. Nah, I'm kidding. I explained it was for a cosplay prop. But the concept was hard to grasp.

Me: No, not a prop for a play, a cosplay prop.

Her: 🤔

Me: ...A prop for a costume.

Her: oh, ok. Well, come and get it!

Me: Yay 😁

Her: *gives me directions over the phone*

Me: Uh, huh. Uh, huh. Ok. *just pretends to write crap down and then types address into mapping app*

It's less than 5mi from where I live now, but it looks like another region. I know they have $$ because of their house and where it's located....

Now my Undertaker just needs a real Ciel OR a fake real Ciel and a Victorian-looking wheelchair 🦽.

I'll have to figure out how to make the IV pole look older, too. Or not. Anachronisms are pre-built into the Kuroverse. 😆

I think u ppl need to calm down on calling things "90s kids" stuff. Just saw that post abt how ur meant to put water in those dry markers from the shitty art kits and someone said smth abt "90s kids screaming in outrage" as if literally every child in the last 22 years who was under the age of 13 and ever displayed the urge to colour hasnt had one of those

#sep talks #like idk #this one specifically was just someone being stupid but even stuff like the big clunky tvs and certain classroom toys #'only 90s kids will remember!!' I think perhaps u were just well off #my parents had been getting those old clunky tvs off freecycle up until I was like 8 #and then we finally got a flatscreen #and this one is. I don't think smth a lot of ppl my age share but I distinctly remember when in primary school #theyd wheel out the tv and we'd watch bbc cats eyes (educational program) on what I am 99% sure was vhs #my house is full of cds that my parents got years ago and I used to ask for them for christmas and shit so I could have more music on my #mp3 player. Like u all say 'only 90s kids will remember' abt stuff that literally everyone between the ages 13-30 has had #obviously some of this stuff doesn't rlly count but I see so many posts and I'm like. Is this an american thing that britain got late #or did this person just have money growing up #OR does this person spend so much time on tiktok that they think ur average tiktok teen is a good representation of what ppl #under the age of 20 r doing these days. (they r not)

#like Jesus fucking Christ #my brother basically gets off on the fact that he helps my mom with stuff (barely) because she’s disabled and can’t lift things #but half the things she asks him to do he’s like no I don’t wanna do THAT #like today for example #my mom found something she really wanted that she’s been looking for parts to make for months now on freecycle down the street from us #and asked my brother if he could pick it up for us since he’s ALSO on this street a lot (his ex lives on that street as well)#his response? ‘‘I thought it was gonna be from a business I don’t wanna deal with people today’’#like dude????#half the time people just leave the shit in their driveway #it’s the same amount of socialization you’d get at a cash register #like stop being a pussy and just pick shit up #I’m sorry I’m being bitter but it’s like again he gets off on saying he helps us but he spends maybe an hour? every two weeks helping #and even that is pulling teeth #and somehow while he’s doing that I’m stuck watching his kid for hours at a time without pay #which he does often #I’m just really sick of his shit #and my sister… she’s a whole other story I don’t have time to get into #vent tw

Today's items for my local Freecycle Facebook group as I downsize before I move in a couple months: Yudoo pet carrier which I never got to use and lil dog booties that do not fit my new beagle.

I love that I can give these to people in my community instead of a thrift store.

I may be going to the creative re-use thrift store in a few days

and I mostly want to find a bunch of stuff to take to donate

not so much with the idea of "making space for more!!!" as "refining my tastes and eliminating things I need to admit I will never use, which will free up space to just be space (but also will allow me to acquire more without worrying about where to put it)"

#my glamorous life #i have two big bags of scraps that could be used for patchwork but not by me #(i have several small bags of scraps in colors i am likely to use)#but the creative re-use thrift store doesn't accept small pieces so i may have to turn to freecycle #but i will be so thrilled to get that space emptied #without throwing it all away because it *can* be used
