today was a TOUGH skating day . i swear i love skating with all my heart but NOTHING felt right today ˙◠˙ my camel spins were bad, so was my sit and layback.

just gotta remind myself that not everyday is gonna be a good one <3 i've worked hard to get to where i am and i should feel proud of myself (and i do!)

on the plus side, i got my papers that officially say i passed freeskate 6!

#bringbackfigures Figures are a large part of the reason we got people like Petr Barna back in the day, IMHO. Some skaters are still excellent at footwork but it's not as widespread.

I'm always impressed with intentional falls. When I fall, I get up quick enough if I can because I don't want to impede traffic, but I sure as hell don't keep going without a blip. I can't even imagine doing it on purpose. That heel-braking maneuver should be physically impossible. I don't even to think about how many times he probably hit the back of his head while perfecting it.

in the scene where yuuri talks about the initial draft of his freeskate music (which later becomes ‘Yuri On Ice’), you can actually hear it playing in the background!!! idk why it took me 4 rewatches and endless hours of listening to the soundtrack to notice this 😭 i kind of just assumed it was random bg music LOL

Ok, I have to rant about figure skating a little, honestly I'm surprised it took me till this late in the season lol. The European Championships were pretty exciting, and there was some great skating! On the whole, I think the judging was right on, but the ice dance, of course, was the one that left me a little frustrated.

Guignard & Fabbri's gold was expected and, while I don't love them, at least they're decent skaters; Lopareva & Brissaud's silver was delightfully unexpected and deserved; but giving the bronze to Fear & Gibson, while certainly expected, left me scratching my head, when Turkkila & Versluis were literally right there! They layed down two absolutely top notch programs, and for what? To be passed over for the 'crowd pleasers' who didn't even have their best skates here?

Everything Turkkila & Versluis did here was so sharp and precise, and they performed the hell out of it with so much personality too. Fear & Gibson always have charisma, but I don't think their technical content matches up to the huge scores they get, and their performances here weren't even their best or most charismatic. Turkkila & Versluis were performing at 100% this time, and their skating showed off more skill, and improvement from previous years as well. Fear & Gibson have seemed to stagnate at the same level as technicians, but they've had this meteoric rise in the standings that I just don't really get. Out of the entire last two groups, they were actually the only ones who didn't really impress me with their performances here. I just don't think they could skate the freedance that Turkkila & Versluis did at all, let alone as well, whereas I think any couple in the final two groups could have easily pulled off Fear & Gibson's freedance. It felt like an exhibition tbh, they were just wiggling and voguing without a lot of content. Idk why they gave them the bronze here, but I guess I should be thankful it wasn't the silver. Lopareva & Brissaud have really impressed me this season too, I think it's the first time I've seen them smile and have fun on the ice in their rhythm dance, and they also seem to connect to eachother a lot better this year too, finally. And of course they have the technical content to back up their scores. I'm ok with them placing ahead of my faves, but Fear & Gibson is just kind of insult to injury.

I'll be over it soon, I've been watching skating way too long to expect every podium to go the way I want it to, but it's kind of extra annoying when all the other podiums went just as they should. They really did award the medals to the best performances in every other case, rather than holding up bigger names with lackluster performances, which is awesome. I'm super happy for Hase & Volodin, Niina Petrokina, and Lukas Britschgi, who all had fantastic skates here and so very much deserve their titles. Shout out to Deniss Vasiljevs for his gorgeous freeskate too! And Nikolai Memola! (When he put his medal around his mom's neck I just went 'aww'!)

(Gonna be a little catty about Nika Egadze's freeskate fail here too, because I enjoy seeing Eteri not get what she wants. Eteri giving him Andrew Torgashev's short program music (because I'm sure she doesn't let her skaters pick their own music) while Andrew Torgashev is still using it is all kinds of rude, and honestly mean to Egadze- it makes all his weaknesses horribly obvious when compared to Torgashev's absolutely brilliant performances. She's just so obnoxious in addition to being an abusive coach, I honestly can't believe they even still allow her at competitons after the whole Valieva thing. She should be banned, end of story.)

Hearing about the plane crash cast a pall over the festivities for sure- I only found out when they mentioned it before the pairs final, and I waited till after it was over to find out who died. It's absolutely terrible that most of them were kids under 16, and I'm heartbroken for Max Naumov, who lost both his parents. To lose not just your parents, but your coaches, all in one day, his whole life must be upended. I hope he has other family and friends around him to help him get through this. I hope all the families do. It's so awful, especially since it's eerily reminiscent of the 1961 crash.

I'm looking forward to Four Continents and Worlds, and I would hope and imagine that they'll do some kind of tribute to the crash victims at Worlds this year, since it'll be in Boston, where several of the victims were from. Honestly, seeing how loving and supportive the crowd was of all the skaters at Europeans this year really helped me feel better after news of the crash. The skating community is a very caring one, and I think that's the best way to heal, coming together to show support for everyone in the sport we all love.

WIP Wednesday: another snippet from the Sansan hockey AU I pretty much only work on during intermissions lol

Practices are always light in between series - limited to freeskates, mostly. It leaves the boys loads of time to talk. Sandor is well-used to ignoring them, but it gets more difficult when the phones come out and they start huddling and whispering like school boys with a nudie mag. He intervenes when it becomes obvious Jamie is being aggressively oblivious.

"Fuck's going on over here?"

Redwyne nearly pisses himself. "Nothing."

"Like hell. Either tell me what's more important than practice or get back on the ice."

"Nothing is more important than practice, sir!" Pod chirps happily. He looks like he means it, damn him.

"Don't call me 'sir,' kid," Sandor grumbles, knowing full well it won't do any good. As predicted, Pod just continues to hide his general fear of Sandor behind an absent, amiable smile. "If practice is so important to you, why are you over here?"

"Saving energy?" Hetherspoon offers, but the idiot draws attention to himself at exactly the wrong time and Sandor merely squints at him until he turns up the phone he'd been trying to sneak under his garter.

Sandor sighs. "Locker room, you twit."

The lad begins to oblige, but Bettley stops him. "Actually, Hound, you might wanna see this." The two exchange a look, but it's Sandor who cringes with Hetherspoon. "I think you'll like it," Bettley continues.

It's an understatement, not that Sandor can say as much. When Hetherspoon turns the phone his way, Sandor has the unique experience of being thankful for the thick, gnarled skin of his face for the way it must cover his blush. On screen, Joffrey Baratheon's pretty girlfriend poses for a mirror selfie in Sandor's jersey and little else. 'Onto the next one' the caption reads, along with a rose and lion emoji to make it clear she's referring to their oncoming series. 

He feigns ignorance. "What am I looking at, exactly?"

"Sansa Stark," Redwyne supplies stupidly. Sandor cuts him a look. "Joffrey Baratheon's ex?"

Ex. Trying hard as he can to stop that train of thought from even leaving the station, Sandor turns back to the phone still being thrust in his direction.

Mistake.

Hetherspoon swipes and the photo changes. She's on her tummy now, the camera angled to only show a corner of her pretty face as his name and numbers writ large across her back seems to be the focus. She's wearing thigh high socks - Casterly colors. Her cute little feet are held aloft, bisecting the neat, feminine bedroom visible in the background. The caption of this one congratulates him on his game winning goal in game five. There are more emojis. A lion/dog combo that's easy enough to interpret, but he has no idea what the remaining jumble is meant to convey. Perhaps that she's dehydrated? There's a lot of water droplets.

Sandor huffs exaggeratedly. "Am I meant to care about some puck slut posing for risque pictures?"

"That's Ned Stark's daughter," Pod objects. 

Redwyne adds, "What're you drowning in options, Hound?"

He outright shakes at the glare Sandor levels him with. 

"She's not a puck… girl," Pod insists, oblivious.

"Some young bird I've never met posting pictures on an app I don't even have and had no way of seeing before you idiots decided to butt in isn't exactly an option either, is it?" It's a blow to the pride to say in front of these shites, but has the desired effect of chastising them. "Quit wasting my time. Phones away and get back to work."

i don’t actually know why i insisted on synchro when this quite literally is the perfect general ice rink shenanigans series. Val is Angel’s toxic coach. Vox is like is like if Jason Brown was a prick (as in like. older but still competing like a champ i just can’t imagine him (jason brown) as anything other than the nicest guy ever) and thinks Ice Dance is Not Real & helps coach teen prodigy Velvette. Ice Dance champion Alastor. Sir Pentious coaches a synchro team (egg bois). Charlie & Vaggie coach but are also an epic pairs duo (ice dance tho). reluctant grumpy coach Husk. Nifty is in learn to skate. Lucifer owns the rink. Adam and Lute are hockey players. i’m immediately obsessed with this.

hazbin hotel synchronized skating au where charlie’s the owner of a small rink and is starting up a synchro team and alastor used to be on a national champion team who stopped skating for 7 years and agrees to coach.
