I Love Free Software Day

Feiern und danke sagen

Heute ist nicht nur Valentinstag, sondern auch der "I Love Free Software Day". Die Free Software Foundation (FSFE) meint, dass der 14. Februar auch die perfekte Gelegenheit für Jede/n ist Dankbarkeit gegenüber den vielen Freiwilligen  auszudrücken, die sich für fehlerfreie, privatsphäre-schonende, offene und kostenlose Software einsetzen.

Die FSFE schreibt dazu: "Stell dir eine Freie Software Community vor, welche neue und alte Mitwirkende willkommen heißt und wertschätzend miteinander umgeht. Diese Gemeinschaft ist motivierend und freundlich im Umgang miteinander." ... "Denn Freie Software ist nicht irgendeine Software: Freie Software steht für eine Community, Freie Software ist Software, welche uns ermöglicht die Software zu verwenden, zu verstehen, zu teilen und zu verbessern."

Auf der Webseite von Manovia finden wir ein Interview mit dem Software-Ingenieur und Aktivist Hakeem Anwar, der warnt, wie digitale Großkonzerne die Massenüberwachung aller Smartphone-Nutzer immer mehr perfektionieren.

Doch ist Totalüberwachung alternativlos?

Wir wissen, dass ein Gerät mit iOS oder Google für die Big-Tech-Konzerne global auslesbar ist. Unser Bewegungsprofil, das soziales Umfeld, ja selbst das tiefste Seelenleben bleibt den Algorithmen der Maschinenintelligenz nicht verborgen. Vor mehr als zehn Jahren hat unser Ehrenmitglied Edward Snowden das aufgedeckt und genau davor gewarnt.

Hakeem Anwar ist Gründer des US-amerikanischen Unternehmens Above, welches Möglichkeiten schafft auf Laptops und Smartphones ein "entgoogeltes" Betriebssystem zu nutzen. Das ist möglich, in dem man sich entweder ein "Above Phone" kauft oder sich ein passendes Endgerät besorgt und selbst ein kostenloses Open-Source-Betriebssystem, für ein Smartphone z.B. Graphene OS, installiert.

Wir können nur raten: Heute den "I Love Free Software Day" feiern und dann einfach mal Linux installieren!

Qué es el software Open Source. Antes de comenzar el artículo de hoy, debes conocer algunos conceptos que suelen pasar desapercibidos para la mayoría de usuarios. Al escribir una  aplicación o software, ese código no puede ser leído por nuestras máquinas. Lo que hacemos es, desarrollarlo íntegramente en texto plano con el lenguaje que nos interese. Posteriormente, este código se debe compilar de forma que se genere un código binario. Ahora sí que nuestros sistemas pueden leer el software, en binario. Los binarios son archivos de texto que solo contienen ceros y unos, que dependiendo de la secuencia representan variadas instrucciones en el sistema. Lo normal era otorgar permisos para redistribuir y modificar, a tu antojo y libre albedrío. Si te lo paras a pensar, era algo lógico pues la distribución de aplicaciones se producía de mano en mano, por lo tanto pocos usuarios tenían acceso a ellas. A principio de los 90, todo cambio.
