would you mind elaborating on how amphibia referenced utena well?
sure! i mean there's lots of examples of amphibia echoing themes of rgu but the primary character amphibia uses to explore those themes is sasha. sasha in a lot of ways IS utena; some people may not make this connection because their demeanor and role in the story is very different but their mindset is extremely similar. sasha's primary role is as the "protector" (read: prince) of her friends, someone who sees the power that older kids & adults wield (particularly white older kids & adults) and wants to grab hold of that power and use it to "help" her friends. we see that consistently she has this idea that she has to be in control because she believes she knows what's best for anne (and marcy, but she's more obsessed w/ anne) -- in "reunion", "battle of the bands", "true colors", etc. (the flip side of this is that she fears they will abandon her if she can't perform this function -- see "barrel's warhammer.") in this respect, she very much is a toad -- which in amphibia is a societal role whose nominal purpose is to protect the frog villages (per "the core and the king") but whose actual reality mostly entails dominating said frog villages. but she also very much is utena tenjou.
rgu and amphibia are both highly skeptical of the "prince" archetype/the idea that you can "save" someone in any meaningful way while lacking respect for their own personhood. we see this demonstrated consistently throughout rgu in how it frames the "princely" characters -- dios/akio, ruka, touga, the boy who drowned trying to save juri's sister, and utena herself. all of these characters embody the prince archetype to some degree and it is destructive to themselves as well as to the object of their savior complex. utena is able to grow out of this by recognizing anthy's personhood and reaching out to her as a friend instead of a savior. (even then, though, utena cannot fully reach her. anthy's hand slips out of her grasp. it is anthy who must choose to walk out of her coffin herself.)
amphibia demonstrates this critique of the "prince" archetype primarily through sasha's character, although briefly through anne & marcy's dynamic as well in "marcy at the gates." a major part of sasha's growth is coming to understand and respect that anne & marcy can and should be allowed to make their own choices even if those choices are not ideal -- this part, which toadie imparts to her in "battle of the bands", is crucial -- and that she cannot keep defining herself as their protector. this growth is demonstrated in the finale when she lets anne sacrifice herself to defeat the core; s1 and s2 sasha would never have let anne make that choice. but sasha in "the hardest thing" understands that loving someone and being their friend does not always mean protecting them from the bad things in life, no matter how much you want to. first and foremost it means respecting them and trusting them. and by "the hardest thing" sasha does respect and trust anne. she has accepted that she is not anne's prince; she is not anne's savior; she is anne's friend, and just as in rgu, that is infinitely better and also much, much harder.
the other major amphibia-rgu throughline is with marcy and the black rose arc -- marcy, like the black rose duelists, fundamentally grapples with not feeling (as akio might put it) 'chosen'/'special' in contrast to anne & sasha. all the girls at various points feel like the third wheel in their friendship in some regard (anne because she's a follower not an instigator, sasha because she's white), but marcy is The third wheel in a way the other girls aren't, and not just because she inexplicably keeps making them watch three-hour-long movies at sleepovers (sorry girlie but i'd fall asleep too). amphibia is her opportunity to feel 'special'; as andrias's advisor, she is elevated above many of the citizens of amphibia. newtopia puts up a statue to her. etc. but this 'specialness', much like the specialness afforded to wakaba & the other black rose duelists by the black rose crest (or, indeed, the regular duelists of ohtori's student council), is not actually a good thing at all; rather, it is an illusory power she is manipulated into believing she has by an adult man in order to more easily enable his abuse of her. indeed, it is precisely her 'specialness', her value to the empire, her ability to beat andrias in flipwart, that dooms her to being chosen as the vessel for the core. to not be chosen is to die, and to be chosen is to be subsumed entirely into the system. such is life under patriarchy & under empire.
so yeah anyway sorry this was 5 months late but in conclusion watch amphibia ✌️🐸

was anyone going to tell me that within less than two months good omens has already climbed to my top 5 used tags. succeeded only by 1 and a half years of bmc posting when i used to be on tumblr for 3 hours every day, by my own talk tag, by almost 3 and a half years of zeldaposting, and the art tag that goes on literally every single piece of art i ever rbed over my whole time on tumblr. ive posted more abt good omens in less than 2 months than the whole years when i actually used to use my queue. its surpassed the eight or however many weeks of nonstop frogshow posting every saturday morning. anyways im normal the good omens obsession is at a manageable level

11. Top 5 female characters that I will love till the end of time
For @peachycloudcats.
Honestly there's no way I can truly accurately limit myself to 5 but here are the 5 I'm CURRENTLY in my feelings about the most:
1: Regina Mills from Once Upon a Time is truly everything. Like. She's a horse girl. She's a mass murderer. She's a small-town bureaucrat. She's a tyrannical queen. She's a democratically elected public official. She's an adoptive mother who loves her son more than anything else in the world. She's bisexual. She fucked a dragon. Her best friends in the whole wide world are all people she's tried to kill at least once. She loved her dad and she killed her dad and it haunted her for the rest of her life. She killed her abusive husband and she didn't regret it one bit. She's a petty bitch. She loves doing paperwork. She took revenge on her enemies by cursing them to live in Maine and trapping them in a time loop only she was aware of for 28 years. She got bored of the time loop after a week. Her favorite apples are allegedly Honeycrisps but she is only ever shown handling the Red Delicious variety. She was almost executed for her crimes and when she was asked if she had any regrets she said she just wished she had caused even more pain. One time she wore an outfit that looked like the flayed pelt of a Muppet. Dogs love her. She won an election she didn't even know was happening. She tried to fight a millennia-old embodiment of Mother Nature's wrath with a baseball bat. She has a mysterious scar that is never explained. She's a cobra. She's a mongoose. She's a mongoose killing a cobra. She drives an old-ass Mercedes Benz with no back seats. She got the kind of epic series-spanning redemption arc usually only afforded to white characters & male characters. But most importantly, she IS the moment. And you WILL put some respect on her name!!!
2: UTENA TENJOU defending her on the internet isn't enough I need a fucking sword!!!!! (< can actually wield a fucking sword) (< not an empty threat!!!) To me the essence of Revolutionary Girl Utena's eponymous protagonist and why I love her so much is captured so beautifully when Saionji & Touga (the Misogyny Brothers) tell her that only a fool would believe in true friendship and Utena just says, "Didn't you know? I am a fool." She IS a fool bro!!!!!
3. Kim Wexler from Better Call Saul the woman that you are...she literally bent the narrative to her will because she refused to bend to anyone else's narratives about her. She INVENTED Saul Goodman. She IS Saul Goodman. Can you blame Jimmy for doing All Of That for her? No, you cannot.
4. Did you think I wouldn't put Cordelia Chase from the Buffyverse on this list? C'mon. It's me. Queen C the nastiest girl in Sunnydale history the cheerleader princess warrior saint goddess you will always be famous and you will always be in my heart!!!!!
5. I so badly want to put all the Amphibia girlies on here but with only 5 spaces I gotta go for my nearest and dearest iconic little blonde bitch Sasha Waybright. How many other 13 year old girls have taken over entire toad armies just by the sheer force of their personality? I love her. She has so many things wrong with her and none of them are the things she thinks are wrong with her. Queen. <333

cursed, cast, cat
Hi, lovebirds!!! It's been a minute since I've posted frogshow fic on here, but this spooky au concept and @themissakat's wonderful art of it simply will not let me rest (they helped me brainstorm for it and the stuff they've made is absolutely GORGEOUS - check it out here and here if you haven't already). I'm planning on adding more to this au (everything on here will be tagged under #cc au), so you'll see more of it soon, and this short bit is just the beginning! With all that said and done, the fic is below the cut! Hope you guys enjoy this new variant of our favorite trio <3
<I found you something,> a teasing voice singsongs through their link, honey-sweet and syrup-thick.
Marcy hums and finishes tying her bundle of herbs together with red twine, stepping up on her chair and then the counter to hang it from the rafters with its companions.
<Please tell me it’s more weeping trillium,> she sighs back. <We’re almost out, and mail order is so expensive - >
<Even better,> the voice purrs, and Marcy can practically feel the smirk in its tone, the ghost of it threatening to pull at her own lips. She rolls her eyes instead as their door creaks open, the bell at the top chiming a cheery welcome.
“Look what the cat dragged in,” Marcy says aloud, eyes still focused on getting the twine to fasten tightly around the thick, oaken beam.
<I mean, I’d sure appreciate it if you looked,> the voice resounds in her head, snarky but warm.
“Okay, hang on, let me just - what did I tell you about bringing your kills into the house!?”
Sitting pretty just past the threshold is a rather large cat, brown-coated with darker markings around its face and paws like a Burmese would, but with luxurious, fluffy fur more comparable to a Himalayan. Said coat of fur is matted in places, speckled with burrs and forest detritus that indicate hours of scouring through the underbrush, and pretty gold-brown eyes stare up into hers.
In the cat’s jaws is a lump of brownish something that squirms in her unbothered grip.
<Firstly, rude,> the cat replies, promptly depositing the poor thing on the floor and casually trapping it beneath fluffy paws as it scrambles to get away. <That was one time, and I was half-high on the neighbor kids’ catnip! So not my fault. Secondly, she’s clearly alive.>
“I can see that,” Marcy says, catching flashes of amphibian-looking skin as the creature vainly struggles to free itself.
<And thirdly, I should get pets, because the way this one screamed at me the entire way here practically made me want to kill her.> The cat glares at its paws before letting out a shocked <You talk to your mother with that mouth? … Jeez, forget I asked.>
“Ooookay. Why on earth would you bring… a toad… to me?”
Marcy gets a light chuff in response.
<I’m gonna let you go now, but you gotta stay still or so help me, I will put you in my mouth again and both of us will hate it,> the cat says to whatever’s in its grasp before pulling back to sit on its haunches.
And sitting in the middle of their kitchen floor is the grumpiest-looking toad Marcy has ever seen. It beeps at - well, she isn’t sure who. Perhaps about the situation in general.
“Aw, that was cute,” Marcy coos. The toad beeps again, somehow angrier than before.
Maybe it’s… injured somehow?
<Look closer. Can’t you see it?>
The toad puffs itself up rather defensively under their twin scrutiny.
Marcy looks.
Oh.
She lets out a long, low whistle. “That is one heck of a curse you’ve got laid on you, ma’am.”
<I found her just from the smell,> the cat remarks. <So strong, I tracked her for acres before I got to ‘er. Pain in the nose, really.>
The toad makes a high, affronted little noise at that.
<The curse is what smells, lady, not you!> A pause. <Well, we’re gonna try to help you out, okay?> The mind-voice is soft and reassuring, a blanket to Marcy’s frantic inner monologue even when it isn’t speaking to her directly, and there’s a rush of fondness that Marcy knows the other can feel through their bond.
Amber eyes meet hers again. <This here’s Sasha, and she’s a fellow businesswoman!>
“A businesswoman, huh?” Marcy muses. “Well, lucky for you, I’m never one to turn away custom-ah!”
Marcy loses her footing on the countertop, foot slipping off the edge and sending her toppling face-first toward the floor. The cat dashes forward, surging upward, form growing and shifting and eyes alight with blue until -
A strong, sure arm wraps snugly around her waist, steady and tanned from the harvest sun, while its opposite spans across the backs of her shoulders. Marcy gazes up at her savior, taking in familiar mahogany-colored curls and onyx-dark eyes and full, grinning lips.
“Careful there, darlin’,” Anne says with a wink and a smirk, and Marcy can feel her face heat a bit.
“Ah.”
A leaf falls out of Anne’s hair. Marcy sends it back into place with a flick of her finger and a wink of her own, tucking one of Anne’s wayward curls behind her ear.
Anne splutters, and something sun-yellow and impossibly affectionate fills the cavities of Marcy’s chest. She presses their hands together, a habit-turned-spell, and she feels practically incandescent with the feeling, like she could-
<What the fuck are you guys supposed to be?> A new voice, steel-sharpened and moon-cold, breaks through Marcy’s mind and thus, the moment as well.
Oh. Right. The toa- the girl.
Marcy quickly clears her throat, untangling herself from her partner’s arms even as Anne mentally whines at her.
“Well, Miss Sasha, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Marcy Wu, and I’m a witch!” She exclaims with a dramatic bow and flourish. Sasha somehow seems even less impressed - it’s truly a marvel that she can express such an emotion with a toad’s face.
She gestures to the woman beside her, who rests a calloused hand on her shoulder. “And the lovely lady who brought you here is Anne, my loyal familiar.”
