Make your favorite kid snack with any variety of frozen or fresh fruit you would like. The key to this recipe is patience. (Yields: 12-16 roll-ups) 🍓 Ingredients : •20 oz fruit (cherries, strawberries, blueberries, apricot, etc,.) •1/2 cup organic cane sugar or raw honey •1 T. lemon juice •1/8 tsp pure sea salt •2 T. great lakes gelatin non-hydrolyzed •coconut oil for greasing 🍓 Instructions : 1. Preheat the oven to the lowest setting;150-170 degrees F. 2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and grease lightly with coconut oil. 3. In a food processor, place the fruit, sugar, salt, lemon juice and gelatin (if desired), puree for 30 seconds or until the fruit is finely pureed. 4. Strain the fruit through a fine strainer into a bowl and discard any skin or seeds. 5. Spread the fruit puree evenly on the lined sheet pan with a spatula. 6. Bake in the preheated oven for 6-8 hours, depending on your oven. Until center is not tacky anymore. 7. Let it cool to room temperature and cut into individual strips with a pizza cutter or knife. 8. Roll each strip with the paper side out. Stephen Porges: The “vagal brake” is the reason you can sit there and I can sit here without feeling like we’re jumping out of our skin! The “vagal brake” in mammals is that myelinated vagus; it’s a pathway going from the brain stem to the sinoatrial node, and it inhibits our heart rate. 🧠 What we often forget is that without the vagus, our heart would be beating twenty/thirty/forty beats per minute faster. We’d basically have a heart rate over a hundred beats per minute, but the sinoatrial node acts as the heart’s natural pacemaker. 🧠 The vagus is a “brake” inhibiting that so our heart rate is slower – and this provides tremendous interesting options. 🧠 It means that if we want to get our heart rate up ten beats per minute/ twenty beats per minute, we just pull the “brake” off; we don’t need to stimulate the sympathetics. If we stimulate the sympathetics, it’s a sloppier system – more diffuse – and we may literally get into a state of rage or mobilization. A mammal has this wonderful ability to increase cardiac output to improve mobilization without triggering the sympathetic nervous system. Just by pulling the “brake” off, we can make these minor adjustments. 🧠 Think about this for a minute…think about your clients that actually feel like they can’t sit still, that they feel like they are jumping of their skin, they can’t relax, can’t meditate and have a very rapid heart rate during the day (over 85bpm). Some random thoughts 💭 for a Friday.... 😞People that are afraid of sugar are just saying...”I don’t understand the human body, or even myself for that matter. Don’t be afraid of sugar because what your really saying is your afraid of yourself. - 🤨What if the things you are afraid of you need the most? - 🥤 Coke doesn’t cause obesity my friends. Drinking too much coke causes obesity. - 🤯Cortisol is a stress hormone BUT, is also a hormone that increases blood sugar. Everyone’s always like my cortisol is high, my cortisol is low, my adrenal fatigue blah blah! What if you have a cortisol issues are because there isn’t enough sugar coming in, being stored and used to produce energy? Well, there isn’t. - 📱 We have lost the ability to care for ourselves. We have food apps that tell us when and what to eat, and that give us our macros. We have meal delivery services so we don’t have to shop or cook. What happens when the apps disappear and the companies go out of business? You haven’t learned anything so your 💩 out of luck! - 🙈You can’t give what you don’t have. If you don’t have discipline, can’t follow directions etc your kids are sure not going to listen 👂🏻 to you! - 😢The way I see some parents treat their children make me want to cry. - 👫Lastly, women want to be explained the why, the what and the how. The lower thyroid function, cholesterol will rise. Thyroid is needed for the synthesis of pregnenolone into cholesterol. Thyroid hormones and vitamin A are required for the conversion of cholesterol to the protective steroidal hormones. The higher the thyroid function the more cholesterol the body is consuming. Thyroid also supports the ability to produce cholesterol. "Cholesterol is used rapidly under the influence of T3, and ever since the 1930s it has been clear that serum cholesterol rises in hypothyroidism, and is very useful diagnostically.” -Ray Peat PhD. - Your body needs thyroid hormones to make cholesterol and to get rid of the cholesterol it doesn’t need. When thyroid hormones are low (hypothyroidism), the body doesn’t break down and remove LDL cholesterol as efficiently. LDL can build up in the blood. - A study in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism (JCEM) found that high TSH levels alone can directly raise cholesterol levels, even if thyroid hormone levels aren’t high. Hyperthyroidism had the opposite effect. - AND….Clinical Thyroidology Vol 5, Issue 12: The thyroid gland is regulated by thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), which is produced by the pituitary gland at the base of the brain. TSH stimulates the thyroid gland to make thyroid hormones and secrete them into the blood. The thyroid hormones control the body’s metabolism and can affect cholesterol levels. There are several types of cholesterol, including LDL-cholesterol (bad cholesterol, associated with heart disease) and HDL-cholesterol (good cholesterol, thought to protect against heart disease). Healing is a journey. A journey of ups, downs and arounds. I would say most of the time it’s human nature to focus on what’s wrong, what’s hard, confusing and down write anger provoking. Sometimes that anger is towards something, towards someone or even at ourselves. What if I told you that how you express your anger was how you experienced your parents? What if I told you it was how you experienced them expressing their anger? What would that mean to you? NOT how they expressed their anger but how you experienced them expressing their anger. Two different things. So what does that tell us or teach us about ourselves? A lot of us, self included I am human as well, love to blame others for our anger. Remember, what we like in others we like about ourselves and what we don’t like in others is a reflection of what we don’t like about ourselves. Everyone is our teacher. We can play the blame game but in all reality people are reflecting back to you - YOU! The pieces and parts that you might need to acknowledge - work through - grow from. Some of us listen and prosper....AND some of love in the past, never let go and live our life with a victim mentality. It’s a journey. But the more open we are to listening to our teachers, which essentially is you 😉, the more we can learn, embrace and experience the journey of healing. Fructose from fruit is important for blood sugar regulation as well as the balance of insulin production. Sugars from fruits are disaccharides which means they contain fructose + glucose. 🔹 Unlike vegetables and grains that break down into pure glucose, which stimulates insulin production leading to highs and lows in blood sugar. 🔹 Besides fruit, the best type of carbohydrates to eat are underground vegetables like sweet potatoes, potatoes, carrots, beets, etc. You can include squashes to this group of foods as well. These type of vegetables (some are actually fruits) do not contain high amounts of polyunsaturated fats and they have beneficial sugars in them. They also are grown close to or below the ground which gives them bacterial and fungal protective qualities. 🔹 ✅Fruits must be ripe or in season. If not ripe, wait until they are ripe or cook them down to predigest them making the sugars available. Balance is what health is. It’s not about restrictive dieting from a place of shame and guilt. It’s not about starving yourself or fasting. It should be about finding your personalized way of eating so you can enjoy your healing journey. Will your path work for others or others paths work for you, probably not. . Here’s one way to create some balance when you need to mix it up, crave something “not optimal” or you just want something to feel not so rigid in your day. ✅Have a piece of organic GF toast. By itself or with just a P can easily cause blood sugar spikes. ✅Always balance it with fruit (and a P of course). The fructose in the fruit helps to balance the sugar (glucose) in the bread. ✅Finding what works and does not work for your body is a process of awareness. Pay attention and listen to your body. It might not work for you even though you WANT it. ✅By creating some balance it allows us to find compliance with our nutrition and not feel the need to eat these foods all the time. .
