Kakashi Hatake is such a hypocrite, man.

I am once again rewatching Gaara vs Rock Lee. And when Kakashi learns that Gai taught Lee the Hidden Lotus, he is JUDGY AS HELL.

"Gai, are you telling me that genin, that BOY, knows the Hidden Lotus?" Talking about how irresponsible it is.

Kakashi, you are going to teach Sasuke the chidori in THIS SAME ARC.

"I don't know what this boy means to you, but I shouldn't have to tell you that we NEVER bring our personal feelings into this."

YOU FOCUS ON SASUKE AND ONLY SASUKE AS YOUR STUDENT BECAUSE HE REMINDS YOU SO MUCH OF YOURSELF AND OF OBITO.

and THEN Kakashi has the nerve to use his sharingan on the fight. So he can take Sasuke and teach him how to STEAL LEE'S MOVESET to fight Gaara in the finals smh

The thing about me is that I actually fucking love tournaments in a good shounen. I love it when a show makes these characters and their abilities and then is like "what would happen if they were matched in pairs and fought if out?" It can be such a great way to view the characters' different abilities & how they react to disadvantagious match-ups, and it ALSO creates such wonderfully interesting fight choreographies as you see the focus completely on the two that are fighting.

So while logic brain is going "how AWFUL that they're pitting children against each other in deadly matches for international relations", fighting junkie brain is going "FUCK YEAAAA SASUKE, BEAT HIM UP!!!!!!"

Rewatching any of Naruto is never good for me, lmao. I see the Rock Lee v Gaara fight scene and I trick myself into thinking the whole series is that enjoyable every time.

Fucking.... Kishimoto really was like ""let me build up this Gaara kid as impossibly strong and make sure to emphasize that no one has ever even been able to touch him in a fight. And now let me have the Very First person to do so be this Rock Lee kid that everyone underestimates, but is already likeable because he's been shown to be kind. rewatching the preliminaries for the 3rd chunin exams round rn and,

gaara vs rock lee is such a phenomenal fight, and the hype about it is definitely deserved, and it still holds up years after it was first showcased.

at the time of release, this fight really caught people's attention for its use of 3D environmental animation coupled with 2D characters design (winx club might have done it first, but naruto atp did it better); from the way 3D animation has evolved this fight is not impressive to a modern audience, but definetly holds up as being good (and the same cannot be said about a lot of early 2000s attempts at 3D blending.) !

furthermore, what truly makes it fantastical is the fight choreography! ofc, a lot of it has to do with character set-up, and especially around Gaara and his absolute defense being impenetrable;

but the fight choreography is so satisfactory and impressive as well. i watch this fight sequence just to feel genuine happiness
