This is ultimately gonna get a different answer from every human on the planet and that's just a reality of being human. But JKR isn't the first or the last hateful human being to make something popular.

Is the imperialism and racism in Hetalia mostly harmless? Is the misogyny and racism in Twilight mostly harmless? Twilight in particular is something I've seen get a "cringe is dead" revival and there were thinkpieces published for years about the various bigotries it espoused. Is using tumblr mostly harmless, given tumblr's apparent siding with Israel? Is using Twitter mostly harmless, given Musk's [waves hands at everything]?

This isn't whataboutism--or at least, it's not to me. This is genuinely my brain processing. I can't get my head around how the boy wizard books are awful in a way that nothing else on this planet has been.

Now, if someone's bending over backwards to excuse her policies or choices or trying to argue that they NEED to spend hundreds of dollars on merch--that makes more sense to me. That's different. That's an external behavior.

But I feel that the mere idea of liking something--of experiencing a reaction--is a morally neutral act. How one goes about expressing that liking can be a different story. I just don't think that you can bully yourself into un-liking something. People feeling like they have to publicly self-flagellate before admitting that they enjoyed a popular children's series doesn't seem quite right. I don't believe that you can be tainted by a morally impure work.

for fun, i decided to scour the jp engage website and collect all the personal pronouns characters used. here are the ones i could find, since a bunch of them didn't use any in the clips that were shown.

watashi: alear, vander, citrinne, bunet, ivy, anna

atashi: lapis (might've been watashi? it was a bit hard to tell), timerra, hortensia

boku: framme, alcryst, merrin

ore: boucheron, amber, fogato, zelkov, rosado

so far, there isn't as much diversity in personal pronoun usage as in 3h– ten different pronouns were used throughout that cast. still, i always think this stuff is interesting, and i'm excited to see which pronouns other characters use for themselves when they're revealed.

I don't know if I got this right but from what I recall

Watashi is fairly polite and while technically gender neutral, is casually used mostly by women, and when men use it, it means they're kinda overly stiff or strict? That tracks with Vander and Bunet using it, as they seem to take things very seriously as retainers.

Atashi iirc is mainly used by young women and is more casual.

Boku I think is mainly used by young guys, and when used by girls it indicated tomboyish-ness. That fits Framme (Type A twin who fights with her fists) and Merrin (wolf knight who said wanted to be a knight instead of heir of her house).

Ore I think is the casual one used by guys?

hello! I'm sorry to bother you but could you tell me where your icon is from? don't know who he is but he looks pretty 👀

Oh!!! The character in the art is Niwazuma Shigenori from Yowamushi Pedal. He is but a minor character, in fact, they scrapped his whole arc in the anime and left the rest of his races to some more popular characters instead. (Big ouch.)

The art is one of two, the other piece is Urakubo Yuusaku, his partner in cycling and closest friend. Who sadly, because the two come together, has seen the same fate in the anime adaption. :(
