Summary:

Excerpt: Cas pointed at the siren charm resting against Dean’s chest. He looked down and wrapped his hand around the necklace before pulling it over his head. He held it in his hand in front of his face. Cas touched the siren charm and then his own chest. He repeated the motion and knew when Dean understood what he was trying to say. Dean’s eyes widened and his mouth fell open in shock. Forgetting the stick, Dean used his finger to write two words: Castiel siren? Cas nodded slowly. He waited for Dean to react to his declaration. Bright green orbs flitted between the necklace and the siren. He shook his head disbelievingly as his eyes finally settled on the creature in front of him. He wrote two more words in the sand: Show Dean. Need water, Castiel used his own finger to write in the sand. He stood up and turned towards the mouth of the cave. He looked over his shoulder at Dean. The man sat there, contemplating if he was going to follow the other man. He finally stood up, keeping the blanket wrapped tightly around his waist. Castiel knew humans were finicky when it came to nudity and was surprised Dean hadn’t commented on his lack of clothes as they headed out of the cave. Cas walked towards the water, Dean trailing behind him, until they stood at the edge of the ocean. Cas looked around making sure there was nobody else in sight. Once he determined the coast was clear, he slipped into the water until it was up to his chest. He looked back at Dean before plunging into the ocean. As he dove, he willed the change to happen. Painlessly his feet glued together and turned into his tail. Gills grew on the column of his neck, allowing him to breath underwater while webbing grew between his fingers. Once fully transformed, he swam back to the shore, wondering if Dean was still waiting for him. When his head popped above the water, he couldn’t help the smile on his face when he saw Dean still standing at the edge of the water. He swam as close as possible before having to use his arms to drag himself to shore. Dean backed up a few steps when Cas came to rest at the shoreline, part of his tail still in the sea. Dean looked at the siren in awe, wondering if this was all a dream. He took hesitant steps forward before squatting next to the siren. He reached out but paused, his hand hovering over the scaly tail. He looked towards Cas, silently asking permission. He nodded his head once and in the next instant, he was being touched by a human for the first time in his life. He jolted at the feeling of the warm skin against his scales. In his head he could suddenly hear a voice, “Holy shit, this dude is seriously a fucking siren.”

“Meg stood to her feet and hurried towards the shape slumped in the road, but Eileen beat her to it. Meg watched as shock crossed Eileen’s face and her hand came up to cover her mouth. Eileen turned towards the approaching magician, fury quickly filling her eyes. When Meg neared her, she screamed, “What have you done? What have you done?”

At Eileen’s feet, a naked man lay curled on the ground. His skin was a light cream color, and he had dark black hair, the color of obsidian, that curled around his ears and the nape of his neck. His body was long, lithe, and unblemished; not a single freckle dotted his skin. His face couldn’t be seen, hidden in the creases of his arms. 

Eileen crumbled to the ground and pulled the man’s head into her lap. She ran her fingers through the thick black locks, exposing his face to the night. She kept whispering over and over, “What have you done?”

Meg studied the man’s face, which was soft in sleep. He was the most handsome man she had ever seen with sharp cheekbones, plump lips, a small nose, and a round, smooth chin. She felt great joy and great sorrow looking at the man. As Eileen ran her hand through the man’s hair, Meg noticed a strange mark on his forehead. It was dark and slightly raised above the rest of his skin. When Meg peered closer, she was able to see that the mark was in the shape of a crescent moon, and a faint blue glow seemed to surround it.

Meg was broken from her thoughts when Eileen cried, “How could you do this? What have you done to him?”

Eileen continued to glare at Meg and said, “Give me your cloak. He can’t walk around in nothing but his bare skin.” She didn’t even give Meg a chance before she was reaching out and pulling it roughly from her shoulders. She laid the cloak over the man’s body and tucked it around him as much as possible. Eileen looked back at the magician and asked, “Just how do you plan on changing him back? He can’t stay a man forever.”

Meg chuckled and puffed her chest out. “I will change him back when the time is right, and the magic comes to me. Eventually, it will come when I call it, and I await that day with eagerness.” Still caught up with joy, she bent over and hugged Eileen. She pulled away and said, “You were right! You said I had the magic, and I do!”

The man shivered but did not wake. Eileen continued to stroke his hair. “You do have magic, but what you have done-”

“What I have done is saved him from the Bull! That creature came after a unicorn, so he had to be turned into something else,” Meg argued. She refused to let Eileen criticize her accomplishment.

“I didn’t ask you to turn him into a human,” Eileen shouted, tears pooling in her eyes. “It would have been better to let the Bull have him! He is a unicorn, not a human! 

Meg huffed. “I didn’t choose the shape, Eileen; the magic did. If it chose to turn him human, then there was no other option for him. I don’t control the magic; I am just a conduit for it.”

“You’re a fool,” Eileen shouted. “You might be a magician, but you are by far the most idiotic one I’ve ever seen!”

Before Eileen could say anything else, the man started moving restlessly. His hands opened and closed, and his eyelids beat rapidly. There was a loud gasp as he opened his eyes for the first time.”
