Ninjago is weird af. It's a kids Lego show (The first and only one to properly take off, the ones that came after it were cheap knock-offs and were somehow even weirder. Example: Lego Chima, Nexo knights. Nexo was just ninjago but with knights, instead.) That, I'm fairly certain, is still running. The original director and creator of the show left really recently, though, and the shows being left in the hands of new people.

It's obviously a kids show, but like, it could make some serious bucks as an anime tbh. Before the reboot (They changed the animation style after the movie, to make it more consistant? Idk, I didn't like it because the movie wasn't really a ninjago movie. All the characters personalities were fucked up and the show changed to be more like that. Though, I'm biased and prefer the og for nostalgia purposes.) One of the characters had the lesbian eye slit (A guy, btw. He's absolutely gay), one of them was autism coded (I felt it was handled well. Obviously not the best, but well for a kids show.) One of them had anime hair that would've been hell to animate, and this one had almost all the trauma. There's another one with daddy issues who had a whole coming out thing (He was coming out as a ninja but it was very similar to a coming out to a Homophobie parent speech), and one of them is literally the trauma

The run down of the Characters is like:

Kai- The anime protagonist. Dead parents, used to be the main character. Angsty. Distrustful. Angry. Is supposed to represent bravery. He started raising his sister when he was, like, five years old. He used to be a blacksmith. He's the fire guy.

Nya- The sister. The damsel in distress until she isn't. Mechanical mastermind. She's a perfectionist, she's sassy, she's The Girl™ character that you expect from a kids cartoon. I won't spoil who she is.

Jay- One of his first lines was hitting on Kai's sister after she got captured. Literally "Is she hot?" to Kai's face. Kai, like a sane person, told him to back off. Jay is the writers favourite. He gets the girl. His biggest trouble is that he was raised in a junkyard by his parents. He's the lightening guy.

Cole- His mom died. His dad is trying to remake his glory days. He's buff, level headed, and loves cake. He's the defacto leader. He has a scythe as a weapon. He's the earth guy

Zane- Is a massive nerd. He's lovable and he's friendly. He doesn't know much about social cue but he tries his best. He's very awkward. He's different from the rest of the team, but they love him none the less. His whole character arc is learning to be who he is, not being like everyone else. He's a brilliant cook with a cool falcon friend. He's the ice guy

Wu- The in sighting incident for the team. The son of God. Is a really old man who made a child army and is presented as a good guy. The first time you meet him is through him insulting Kai, the main character.

Garmadon- The big bad, he's dramatic. He's theatrical. He's lowkey silly. He's a babygirl. Despite being absent, he wants to be a good dad to his son, but his son is destined to fight him and he doesn't want to make that harder than it needs to be.

Lloyd- A little shit of a child, he is a true menace. Imagine Maui as a child. He's adorable. His biggest crime is stealing candy (And also releasing war criminals, but he didn't mean to so it's ok xx)

Pythor- The sexiest snake villain to be brought into TV. I'm no furry/scaly, but they gave him the sexy/deep/sultry British voice. They intended for that to be the desired effect.

Skales- Pythor's spiritual wife. They're divorced and married and they hate each other and love each other. Later on Skales gets an actual wife and they made her pink and gave her boobs to prove she's a girl lmfao

So much just happened at once I don't even know what to say. I'm listening attentively I just am at a loss for words. hey wait is ninjago just a combination of ninja lego. maybe that's super obvious but please understand this is the most I've thought about ninjago before in my entire life and that's not an exaggeration

i'm looking up things for a modicum of context and understanding, and when I looked up nexo knights a fucked up looking book popped up and now I'm thinking about it. what's he doing...why's he there..

anyway! please don't apologize! it's fun to hear people talk about things they're interested in or have significant knowledge about! lloyd is the one character I've heard about, but I couldn't actually tell you where from. I've watched one of the lego movies (the one with the everything is awesome song), but that was forever ago so no clue if he's in that. Also! I love autism coded characters! My mom recommended me a book series saying the main character...hang on I don't remember it exactly. Was said to have aspergers (not my favorite word but I'm referencing the author) as author's word of god? or is it that everyone just picks up on that when reading? whatever it is specifically, the character is at least very easily read as autistic. I haven't read the series myself yet, but I'm very curious to pick it up!

Villains always seem to have a higher baseline of intrigue than other characters, and also a high comorbidity of snakeliness (totally a word, ignore the red squiggle under it saying it's not. it's lying). but also you were right that wife can pink--I'm sorry i can't get over the snakes having human bodies. i understand this is a lego world but they have completely normal ass legs it's just their heads that are snakes. this is. i can't take this seriously that's hilarious

anyway! thank you very much for this plethora of information :). I feel like I have retained very very little of it, but it's still like a 700% increase from all prior knowledge I had of it. i still have no plans to watch any of it myself, but it's fun to hear people talk about things they like!

The Owl House — yeah, I currently have lots of TOH thoughts. it's just such a good show, every character is written in such a compelling way, the animation is stellar and honestly there isn't much I can say about it that hasn't been said better by someone else but. yeah it's good.

Ninjago — complete opposite from TOH, Ninjago is a Hot Mess™ of a show and that's why I love it. No it isn't well written (most of the time) but god if I don't love these gay little lego ninjas. my rewatch is currently paused though because i'm on TOH lockdown

She-ra — if anyone's sensing a theme, congratulations! Anyways, She-ra is another really well-written animated show that I love a lot.

Mulan — I have such a soft spot for this movie, historical inaccuracies and all.

Hermitcr— just kidding. But honestly I don't have a fifth favorite I could consider good enough for this list. I do have a whole long list of shows, mostly cdramas, that I want to watch but haven't yet. I have some other movies that I like but I wouldn't put them as a top favorite, just because I feel like there are so many other movies out there that I haven't watched yet but would like better. There's so much cool stuff out there that I haven't watched yet but I'm excited to do so! :D

eric & buddy headcanons ♡

- Eric makes the tough decision to let Donna know that he needs to break things off with her, but doesn’t give a reason as to why which infuriates her and she claims that she no longer wants anything to do with him

- Buddy has now been over to the Forman household more times than can be counted, & he is never seen more than a room away from Eric, though Kitty simply assumed that he was only a good friend. She loved Buddy; he was her favorite out of all of Eric’s friends, despite knowing him the least amount of time. She frequently asks him if he wants to help in the kitchen - he doesn’t mind because he is Sweet and Loves To Help™. On the other hand, Red had hidden suspicions about Buddy and his unabashed intunement with his feminine side, (not so much Eric though) but simply chalked it up to him growing up with three sisters and no father figure.

- Buddy is eating dinner with the Formans and lets something slip about an ex-boyfriend of his; Eric tries to distract from what he said as he doesn’t want to raise any flags with Red, but he of course picks up on the comment, to which he slowly sets his fork down and makes an “I need to talk to you after dinner” face at Kitty, who is smiling and waiting for Buddy to finish his story

- Nothing more than a “he is so lovely” is said (by Kitty) to Eric about Buddy after he leaves; in private, Kitty insists for Red to not jump to conclusions, and to let Eric be able tell them on his own terms

- Eric and Buddy in class together, throwing paper at each other & then one of them carries the others books and walking them to class & they sit together at lunch & Eric has his arm around Buddy; bonus, Eric’s like “let me help u with ur books,” trying to be suave but he drops them halfway there bc he’s weak

- Kitty tells Eric that Laurie is coming home for the weekend / dinner and Eric is like “No?????? I told you buddy was coming over for dinner??” and Kitty is like “oh, well I’m sure she’d just love to meet him! 💕” but the thing is Eric was planning on using this particular dinner to come out to his parents and he doesn’t want Laurie to make fun of him. fuck laurie all my homies hate laurie

less in depth:

- buddy gives eric a hickey (that he didn’t notice) and kitty sees it and goes “i thought you and donna broke up?”

- buddy going to the forman’s for dinner and him playing footsie w eric under the table but eric is nervous and accidentally footsies red instead of buddy

- eric ranting to jackie about how he’s falling for buddy bc she’s almost like a sister to him so jackie tries to be like a wingman bc buddy likes her

- eric buying a lego set & no one really wants to help him except for buddy so they make it in the basement & sometimes buddy throws lil lego pieces at eric

- that episode that everyone makes eric throw away his roller disco stuff only buddy takes him to the mall to buy him new stuff that he helps keep secret & he goes with eric to the rink all the time and does his best to help keep eric’s secret from his friends / family

the sword she uses is a magical Dragon Blade, which has been in her family for generations and may only be wielded by the worthy to protect the family from evil (it can also shoot lasers which is pretty epic). she is the first in a long time to use it, and when it shatters (she’s using it to protect her friends against a super powerful foe and it breaks in front of her), she learns she’s able to create new ones through determination and also the power of being a sickass dragon (bc she is a dragon in human form) (?) (this shows magic system runs on a lot of rule of narrative and rule of cool so i don’t know her specific dragon situation). i hc mei as aroallo (she’s literally the aroallo flag colors) and bi!

For Gillion Tidestrider:

literally perfect. even more than "while you were being gay i was studying the blade" he's "while you were having normal healthy childhoods i was studying the blade" i love him so much.

He's Gillion freaking Tidestrider, Champion of the Undersea, Hero of the Deep, Pigeon Lord, The One, Warrior of Rock and Roll, Singer/Songwriter of Gillion and the Tidestriders' hit single "The Hole in Your Heart", Moisture Master, Horse Tamer, Defenestrator of the Adulterous, Walking Fish, Etc. Etc. He's canonically ace and although he's not canonically gay he did share an incredibly passionate Crit kiss with another member of the Riptide Pirates, Chip, to save a third member of the Riptide Pirates from drowning, Jay. Regarding his swordliness he uses a longsword however he has been known to attack and smite people with random objects like chairs as well.

1: a video game you’d recommend: There are so many good ones, here’s a few of my favorites: Firewatch, Overwatch, Undertale, OneShot, Battleblock Theater, Shovel Knight, Crypt of the Necrodancer, Bastion, Transistor, Portal (1 & 2), The Turing Test, The Talos Principle, Mirror’s Edge, and One Finger Death Punch.

2: favorite pair of socks: To be honest, any pair of fuzzy socks I own are my favorites. I’m not sure why exactly they’re only marketed to women/girls; I don’t want cold feet just because I’m a dude.

3: an odd thing from your room: I don’t have too many odd things in my dorm room, but in my room at home I possess a monopoly set from the late 1940s/early 1950s that’s still in the plastic wrap.

4: if you made a gang what would the design/text on the back of our matching jackets be: I have no idea, something gay??? I like phoenixes so probably something to with that and just,,, pride flags everywhere (anyone who can draw and knows what I’m talking about slide those concept designs into that submission box)

5:if you were in a fantasy world what would be your 'trademark' item/feature: I honestly can’t decide between really powerful magic and the ability to communicate and work with magical creatures (like Newt Scamander)/

7:dream Lego set: I remember really wanting the huge Death Star set as a kid. Never got it. I’m going to pretend that it’s the source of all of my adult problems.

8: do I have any scout badges: HELL YEAH EAGLE SCOUT BOYYYYYYYYYYY seriously though I think I have somewhere in the neighborhood of ~24-27 badges? I can’t remember them all but I’m an Eagle Scout so I had at least 21

9: a book you’d recommend: Three major recommendations, and all of them are sci-fi set in the future: Red Rising Trilogy by Pierce Brown, Leviathan Wakes by James S.A. Corey, and Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. All are excellent and I love them dearly.

10: favourite 'made-up' creature from any universe: I really fuckin love phoenixes. don’t know what else to say.

11: what instrument(s) do you play/any you wish you could play: I sing, and play a little piano and drums; I wish I could do all of them at a higher level than singing in the shower and playing small riffs on the piano, but I’m busy and that’s life sometimes

12: a character you wish you could pull off the perfect cosplay for: SO MANY geez probably Corrin (M) from Fire Emblem or maybe Link from LoZ? Also someone from Legend of Korra or Fullmetal Alchemist???? So many characters??? Corrin would be my first choice though
