Finding Prince Charming ... Am I being too cynical?

Hello Tumblr!

So this will be my very first recap of a reality tv show.

Keep in mind that I am not a big reality tv junkie anymore and you have Rachel Reilly from Big Brother and Jason Mesnick from The Bachelor to thank for that. Anyhow when catching up up RuPaul’s Drag Race All Star 2 (that’s a whole another topic) an ad for Finding Prince Charming popped up. I was curious to check it out as I heard of it premiering and some behind the scenes gossip. And also back in the day I posted a status on Facebook saying that it time for The Bachelor to have a gay version, which this is being toted as.

Anyways onto the episode (I watched it twice, once for curiosity and twice for this post). I had my wine in hand and was ready for an hour of gay love.

Que audio and beach scene! Very first thing we see is our Prince Charming on the beach (shirtless, of course). He introduces himself: Robert Sepulveda Jr (that’s a mouth full, ((I bet he is HA!)) age 33 and originally from Puerto Rico. Apparently he is an Interior Designer (I also heard a previous male escort, well with that body can you blame him... anyhow back to the show) in a top interior design firm in Atlanta, Georgia. Notably he is also the president and founder of The Atlanta Rainbow Crosswalks which is a non profit and an art project (his words). He is a family man looking for love and marriage (well duh why you would be on a dating reality show if you weren’t). More talk about what he is looking for in a man accompanied with more shirtless photos, running on the beach and bathroom grooming moment. Okay we get it you’re in shape and hot.

He reminds us that this is still a competition for him to pick one of the 13 suitors and that hearts will be broken... I am already annoyed and we are only 1:30 minutes into this show.

Que the themesong. The Prince! The Host! (not sure why we care that Lance Bass is in the opening theme song but alrighty then) Finding Prince Charming (just in case you forgot what show you are watching.)

Next is the typical outdoor montage shot complete with traffic shots (not sure why reality tv shows are huge on traffic shots... I have never found traffic that exciting but I digress.)

After the montage we see Robert Sep(... for the sake of these recaps lets just call him PC short for Prince Charming) sitting in a bar when Lance Bass walks up. Lance Bass states that this is game changer being 2016 that there has not yet been an all gay dating reality tv show (technically there has been a gay dating show Boy Meets Boy on Bravo with a similar concept of a suitor picking other male suitors but the twist was that some of the suitors were actually straight and if they could pretend to be interested in the suitor and were chosen they would win $25000.... 2003 was a different time, folks.)

Enter twist time! PC will enter the house to meet the guys and pretend to be one of the suitors eyeing for the Prince Charming. He says this will be a great way to get to know the guys without pretenses, a real first impression. Lance then asks the question is what is PC looking at the end of this.... (come on now what do you think? He is on a gay reality tv show, of course he is going to want a solid relationship! If he wanted a hookup I am sure he has no real problem on Grindr!.. we aren’t even past 5 minutes of the show I am almost done my glass)

More video montages of a dessert, the moon(I guess to symbolize that we are indeed at night even though the bar scene took place at night) and more traffic.

Enter the suitors! Suitor one steps out of of a black SUV (after being a faithful watchful of Unreal I know how much work goes into the drive up part.)

and we meet Eric, 35. Who is a blue eyed Hairstylist from Los Angeles, with perfect teeth. He is self described as when people first get to know him he is shy (they play this over a group photo of his friends and him goofy around). He mentions he has had a rough childhood growing up gay in Texas and that he wants to present himself in the most authentic way possible. ... okay next!

Next to enter the house is Paul, 34, a blue eyed Tanning Company Founder (who is surprising is pretty pale given what he founded), who also has perfect teeth. First thing he tells us is that he moved to Dallas, Texas with his fiance who just recently passed this past Thanksgiving. First thing I think is oh no hunny why are you on the show then? Based on the weather and what PC says later on in the show I am going to assume this was filmed in June or July so his fiance passed not even a year ago you can clearly tell he is mourning... Anyhow back to the show: Paul meets Eric next to the pool side bar and he first thought that Eric was the Prince Charming and compliments his eye colour.... well this show is getting off to a good start.. the suitors are hitting on each other already!

Next PC enters the house undercover! Code name: Undercover Prince Charming... UPC... nevermind lets just leave it at PC. He meets both Paul and Eric “Paul is striking and Eric is equally just as striking”... find your words man!

Next is Dillon, 26 a Fashion Publicist from West Hollywood. (Okay let’s just get this out of the way we have been introduced to an interior designer, a hairstylist, a tanning company founder, and someone who works in fashion... way to go Logo of breaking gay stereotypes. Dillon is the first Black suitor introduced (.. as I shouted the token Black gay man to my computer.. however there are 2 more that follow). Dillon meets the three other men. Paul is starting to annoy me (even more so than I am already annoyed) with his way of introducing himself. He shakes their hand repeats their name and says his name. So it was “handshake” “Dillon? Paul”.

Next up is Brandon, 29 a Behavioral Healthcare Administrator from Los Angeles.. who also has perfect teeth and in perfect shape. Interestingly to note that there is no back story for Brandon as a yet. All we get is Paul’s: *handshake* “Brandon? Paul.

Next is Jasen, 33 a Celebrity Makeup Artist from New York. My first impression is that he was cast as the token more down to earth guy without the ripped body, That was until they showed a picture of him in a muscle shirt. Guy has arms! Jasen sits down with the other 4 guys and there is a shot of Brandon. At first I was like who the hell was this and had to rewind to see if he was even introduced.

Some mingling is occurring with the 5 guys and PC tries to guess Paul’s height (he is 6′3″), PC comments that he is 6′2″ on a good day (same tatic I use when I describe my height... I’m 5′6″ , 5′7″ on a good day) Paul let’s it slipped that all of his exes are shorter have been shorter than 5′11″. In PC’s confessional he says that he thought him and Paul would have been a good match but he has his doubts now since Paul is attracted to short guys (... you are shorter than him man!)

Next is Justin, 29 who is a Project Manager from Seattle. At first I thought that he was Frankie Grande’s twin and was already turned off by him, though he had amazing sparkly shoes coming out of the SUV. Back story being gay is hard and that he is looking for love ... ya ya

PC asks Jasen if he knows any of the other guys already at the house... he says no until Chad, 32, a Real Estate Agent from NY walks through the doors. They hug so I am going to assume they are on good terms, probably hooked up once or something. Chad is another perfect teeth, in shape body who fell in love with someone at 19 on the internet that’s why he came out.

Paul being Paul asks the group what if one the already suitors there is Prince Charming just waiting to come out that he is. PC looks nervous and shifts around for a bit.

Commercial break! Time for my second glass of wine... we have only surpassed 10 minutes... I am going to be passed out before the end of the show if I keep this up.

Next suitor after the commercial break is Brodney, 34 Personal Trainer from Atlanta. (I wonder how much that woman who opens the door for the guys gets paid) who is our second Black suitor ( which made me eat my earlier words when they introduced Dillon.) Brodney meets PC and PC asks him where Brodney lives. After finding out PC says “Oh! I live in Atlanta too” It’s hard to read Brodney but I am pretty sure he knew this when he says “That’s why you look so familiar”.

Overpaid door girl opens the door for out next suitor Charlie, 26 a Nanny from Hermosa Beach, California. Charlie is completely different then the other suitors currently introduced he has a fuller figure, shorter, and a full beard (token normal gay man cast). Zero back story for Charlie (Just in case you’re wondering why I am pointing this out is generally if a contestant on a reality show gets no backstory or little storyline they are generally eliminated in that episode. Why spend time on someone that will be gone by the next episode)

Next to join the circus... I mean group of gay men who look like they were designed in a gay laboratory of perfect men is Nick, 31 a College Event Administrator (does this mean he is still in college... if so why didn’t they just put student!), wearing a gorgeous red suit. In Nick’s confessional he says that the second face he sees is a man who looks like a prototype Disney Prince referring to PC. Very observant of you Nick!

Next is our last token Black suitor, Danique, 30 a Business Analyst from Los Angeles.

Next to enter the house is Sam, 31 a Director of Planned Giving (huh??) from Chicago. Sam’s backtory is that he has found it is hard to date in Chicago as most guys he meets in bars are always on their phones. He has never had a boyfriend...(alright then so let’s go on a reality tv show to find a husband, totally makes sense.)

Up next to come out of the shiny SUV (I wonder if they are using the same SUV for all the guys) is Robby 26, a beauty expert from West Hollywood. He sashays into the party, exclaiming “Party started Bitches!” (Groan!) He very touchy feely with the guys when he introduces himself. Backstory is that he was on the football team in highschool where he was fully supported by his team mates.

Thank god there are no more suitors... The guys are mingling commenting on when will they meet their mystery men, a few more speculate that he is among of them already when Lance Bass comes in. Robby immediately gets excited and runs up to him and gives him hug, asking if he is the Prince Charming. Perfect segway for Lance to point at his ring and mention that he is already married. Small speech from Lance Bass of what will happen... yes yes we know we have seen other dating shows.

Lance wants to play a game called Tell Me About Your Hashtag Self #how2016ofhim #groan #cheesyaf #anotherglassofwineneeded. Basically tell everyone about yourself and use to a hashtag to sum yourself up. I find this odd considering the guys don’t think that the their Prince Charming is the room but hey lets open up to your competition. PC is relieved that soon he will get to reveal who he is once and a for all.

To summarize the game the guys talk about themselves coming up with some ... interesting hashtags. We get the pleasure of hearing #whenbea9whenyoucanbea10 #flexible #whatthefuckchuck #perfectionist and other interesting tid bits. Danique’s, Nick’s, Brandon’s, Charlie’s, back stories are mentioned but I honestly don’t care at this point.. I am need of another glass of wine!

Last but not least is PC’s turn! He finally reveals that he is their Prince Charming which erupts with applause and gasps. A lot of the guys say that they knew it must have been him along. Lance Bass talks some more (at this point I am tuning him out) and whisks PC out of the house.

After the two leave all the guys flock around Brodney asking him if he knew PC. Brodney reveals that he sees PC all the time at the gym, not sure of if he made a bad impression before. In his confessional he doesn’t think there are sparks between him and PC.

After the guys unpack more fun ensues. Paul is now all worried from his previous comments of dating shorter guys and how he has to do damage control with PC. Eric is cranky that he has to share a room with 4 other guys and a bathroom. Sam and Robby get into a fight because Sam thinks Robby is putting on a gay stereotype show. Robby calls him out for being a virgo and being beige (And here is the drama... maybe another glass is in order).

Commercial break before the pool party!

After the commercial break it is the next day of the guys waking up in various sleeping garments. Dillon is wearing denim shorts (because you know when I pick out pj’s, I too pick out denim shorts). The guys talk about how excited they are to have a second chance of a first impression with PC (err I don’t think that is what a first impression is but alright there Dillon). Nick walks in on Robby with a spray tan machine and is floored that he has one. (I wonder if it was already in the house or based on Robby ’s personality I am sure he brought it with him. Robby spray tans Nick the worst tan ever. His abs looks like someone took chocolate cake and smeared into his skin. Danique tells Justin and Nick that hopefully PC gets there soon cause he will meet him drunk... (heat and drinking never mix well hello Mexico holiday 2010!).

Finally PC comes to the pool party. He is excited that the cat is out the bag and that the guys know he is the Prince Charming (I am finding that with a lot of his confessional he is repeating the same thing over and over again). He has concerns with three guys: Brandon and Nick apparently didn’t talk to him at the party and about Paul’s height thing (seriously get the fuck over the height thing!) The guys swarm over PC. PC comments that Eric, Chad and Brandon obviously take care of themselves so he is looking forward of them being in the pool. Our PC is just as thirsty as his suitors!

Dillon is the first one to take PC to the side for a chat. PC asks him if he is getting along with the guys and Dillon is “Like I didn’t come to make friends” I laughed so hard at this comment because it reminded me of when Lashauwn Beyond from RuPaul's Drag Race yelled “This isn't Rupaul's Best friend race!”

Sam is next to steal PC for a talk. He tells PC that he knew he was the Prince Charming because he was very handsome (alright there Mary (there was delicious moment during his and Robby ’s fight where Robby called him Mary). I think it’s funny in PC’s confessional he says that he could end up being someone LIKE Sam... (not Sam himself but like him).

Up next are Brodney and PC. PC says that Brodney is great on paper, he lives in the same city and has a great body result of being a Personal Trainer. He has been wanting to connect with him since the moment that he saw Brodney (on the show or in real life at the gym?? Somethings never gets answered). Brodney doesn’t open up to PC much.

At 34 minutes Logo makes this huge moment of PC taking off his shirt to get into the pool. The boys stop what they are doing to stare and gasp. These boys are in heat and it’s only been the second day! I wouldn’t be surprised if there was some under the covers stuff that happens with a few of the guys in their rooms.

The shirt finally comes off and Nick promptly sits down with PC at the pool. Nick starts to sweat profusely which turns off PC. Nick is flirtatious and when PC comments that he could see himself living overseas Nick says well maybe even in Hamlton, NJ. I crack a smile, I find Nick very cute ... then I remind myself that I am not on the show and will probably meet him. PC doesn’t smile or comment and seems relieved when Chad interrupts them.

Chad and PC chat about Chad’s hashtag #flexible and in PC’s confessional he says that being flexible is good. Again PC is very thirsty. After a couple minutes other guys once again swarm around PC in the pool.

Brandon sneaks PC off for alone time and says right away “I’m super attractive to you and...” Where PC interrupts him with “That’s a great way.. when you’re attracted to them, let me ignore them” (I think PC’s ego is tad bit bruised by Brandon). Brandon opens up with PC letting him know that he was disowned for being gay at 16. He talks a little bit more about his family when Eric sits down.

You can immediately tell that PC is into Eric. He does the whole subtle check out of his body, flexes his body when he leans in to talk to Eric and then almost immediately he gets up from talking with Brandon and goes inside with Eric. Inside Eric is leaning slightly back with his full body on display, wearing the shortest possible shorts. In PC’s confessional he says that he has the most amazing bright blue yes and a beautiful childish smile. He is stumbling over his words when he says I have my eye on that. #thirstyPC

Outside Paul being Paul is still worried of his last night’s comments, Danique tries to reassure him that he is fine. There are a couple shots of PC talking to a few other the guys he hasn’t talked with yet along with Paul’s concerns that other guys have gotten alone time and he hasn’t. (just sit down man and talk to him!)

PC and Charlie are next in the pool when PC comments how beautiful Charlie’s eyes are. He seems to be very attracted to guy’s with blue eyes. He asks Charlie if is getting on well with the other guys where Charlie let it known that a there is drama between a couple of the guys already. This turns PC off cause he felt that Charlie was talking about the other guys when he should be focusing his affection on him. in Charlie’s confessional with a dead pan faced he says that he is very confident with his connection PC (I don’t believe he believes what he is saying).

Robby in the pool with PC asks PC where Chad is? PC asks the tall guy with gray hair? Robby informs him that Paul who is thinking of which caused me to snort some more wine out of nose because PC doesn’t remember the names of the guys eyeing for his attention. PC’s ego is again bruised by the fact that he didn’t think the guys would not just not come up to him and talk to him. And said if Paul wasn’t interested in him he should just leave.

PC announces to the group that he is leaving to go get ready for the elimination. Paul being Paul runs after PC just before he heads out of the house. And... Commercial break!

After the commercial break we see Paul trying to explain to PC why if they had all day to talk why didn’t he take that chance. He opens up about his fiance committing suicide last Thanksgiving. PC himself doesn’t think Paul is ready to be in a relationship even though he took the risk and opened up to him. Some behind the scenes of the guys getting ready for the Elimination ceremony of Robby and Paul being Paul talking about their talks , where casually mentions that he is going to be wearing a custom made suit. Lance sits down with PC and they yak about the past couple days. PC addresses his concerns once again about Paul and the height problem, Brandon’s motive of coming on the show, Charlie chatting about the other guys, and Brodney having walls up .

And commercial break before the Elimination! Time to refill!

After the commercial Lance welcomes us to the first black tie affair. When he says that I noticed that it is funny that he called it that when none of the guys are wearing a tie. It finally dawned on me that the PC will give the suitor of his choice a black tie to stay in the competition. Like the rose ceremony in The Bachelor. And then out comes PC!

I’m gonna keep this short as I dragged on long enough: In order that they were called:

1. Eric - Safe. PC totally checked out his booty when he walked back to his spot.

2. Dillon - safe

3. Brandon - Safe

4. Frankie Grande... Justin - Safe

5. Mr Flexible Chad - Safe

6. Jasen - Safe

7. Robby - Safe

8. Charlie..... eliminated .. Guess you did #fuckupchuck

9. Mary Beige .... Sam - Safe

10. Nick - Eliminated.... nooooo! Nick call me or instagram me Chrissers0x

11. Danique - Safe

Bottom two are Paul being Paul and Brodney. There are confessionals for both them with one of Brodney’s taken at night with the same outfit he wore to the elimination ceremony... (hmm interesting did this happen before the ceremony or after, I’m going to go with the latter)

After a few tense moments of PC explaining to Paul and Brodney why they are in the bottom two he chooses to stay ..... Paul being Paul! I personally think he should have kept Brodney and gave him more time to open up verus someone who is not over the death of his fiance.

So there you have it folks the first episode of Finding Prince Charming. My top three predictions of PC’s choice is Eric, Dillon, and Sam.

I am tad bit dissapointed that PC sent home one black man, the token average guy and cutie Nick. To send home two minorities isn’t that smart especially when the suitors lack diversity to begin with. There are zero Asian men on the show. As well, no guys I could identify with as I don’t have piercing blue eyes, rock hard abs or perfect white teeth.
