one day x lando norris pt 2
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
this is a part of my series following one day of every summer from 2016 onwards in y/n’s and landos lives, exploring their friendship and love for one another. ofc not a smooth ride with some angst and fights along the way. a friends to lovers, growing up together kind of thing. read first part here pairing: lando norris x fem!reader summary of this part: lando and y/n crushing hard on each other without the other one knowing. roadtrip to the beach and that kind of cosiness. warnings: a bit of angst? wc: 1,6k part three here
summer of 2017
”are you sure you don’t want the professional race car driver to drive there?” lando said with a concerned voice.
”does this look a race car? it’s a car suited for grandmothers, i could probably run faster than this car can drive. stop being such a wuss now and jump in” y/n demanded.
lando jokingly crossed himself and told a little prayer before entering the passenger seat. y/n laughed and rolled her eyes at her scared friend.
”i know i only just got my license but i’m actually a decent driver! and besides that i’m the one of us that actually drive on roads, safely, while you’re out there almost killing yourself every other weekend.”
”okay, okay i get it, i trust you, just please keep us alive, i have a race in hungary this weekend”
”we will just have to hope for the best dear” y/n responded driving away.
while lando and y/n continued bickering about who of them was the best driver y/n drove along the english shoreline heading for a viewing point. she hadn’t seen him in a while and really missed him during the long periods of being apart. y/n tried her best at concentrating on the road and making a good impression of her driving skills but at the same time she couldn’t stop looking at lando and his beautiful smile. he truly made her so happy with his presence which she hadn’t really realized up until now.
it was almost a year now since that podium kiss in austria and ever since that their friendship had developed into a special bond. y/n was still crushing quite hard on lando and without her knowing he was too. they’d never really talked about what happened in austria and although they had a very flirtatious friendship it had never lead to anything between them since that podium. this friendship that had now lasted almost a year felt like a once in a lifetime kind of thing and no-one of them wanted to ruin it by expressing their feelings for one another and maybe ruining it all. eventually it had led to them both staying away from any kind of topic regarding their feelings.
”y/n? what are you thinking about?” lando said waking y/n up from her spiraling thoughts.
”oh, ehm.. nothing. ju-.. just trying to figure out where-, how we’re going to find a nice viewing point before the sun sets” y/n said trying to sound as calmly as she could.
”oh okay, well i know a place. if you just take a left over there and go up that road” lando answered while pointing to a road that was approaching. y/n drove as instructed and after a while reaching a beautiful spot that had a view over the water and a nearby beach.
”wow this is nice lan, good job. i guess i now know where you take all your girls” y/n winked and playfully nudged lando’s arm trying to seem as unbothered as possible.
”not aaall girls but one thing i can tell you is that this spot has never failed me with the girls, soo-” lando cheekingly told y/n returning the nudge.
y/n laughed. ”oh you wish norris! i’m not falling that easily, and what makes you think i’m like your other girls? i actually have more than IQ 50”
”heey that last girl actually a decent gcse!” lando whined.
”woow your standards are very high, i’m impressed. you do realize that that describes almost every girl in this country?” y/n joked as lando laughed and shook his head. ”well we will see y/n, don’t be so sure that you can resist me at a place like this” lando winked at the girl. y/n laughed denying it all while thinking that there was nothing that she wanted more than to be lando’s girl.
moments later at the nearby beach
lando was running into the cold water squealing about how it felt worse than ice baths. he looked back at y/n standing on the beach fully dressed with no intention to go for a dip. ”come on now y/n it’s really not that bad!” lando shouted. y/n looked at lando who was clearly freezing and trying to hide it the best he could. ”lan you’re not convincing anyone that it’s not cold, i can see your goosebumps from miles away” she shouted back.
”okay well i bet you’re too much of -”
”lando stop, you can’t just make a bet for everything you want me to do?! that’s not how life works!” y/n interrupted before the curly headed boy could come up with the seventy-third betting game of their friendship.
lando laughed seeing that y/n once again couldn’t resist his stupid ideas and started to remove her sweater. she continued taking off her skirt and top revealing the black bikini underneath. luckily lando was a bit further out in the ocean so y/n couldn’t hear his ”wow” when he saw her for the first time in that small amount of clothes. he kept admiring how beautiful she was walking down to the water while y/n tried to cover up a bit more of her body with her arms.
y/n gasped when entering the water and also tried to put on her best show of convincing lando that the water wasn’t at all cold. slowly she waded out in the direction of the boy with full concentration on the coldness of the water against her skin and also on not stepping on any fish. while y/n struggled with this lando chuckled a bit further out in the water without looking away from the beautiful girl approaching him, oh how he had to fight the urge to not run up to her, grab her in his arms and kiss her. but he couldn’t do that.
”hello? is your last braincell giving up too?” y/n woke lando up from his daydreaming receiving a smile back. as a response he playfully splashed water on her which eventually ended up in them both being totally soaked and heading to the car for some warmth.
moments later back at the car the pair of friends were talking in the trunk of the car that had been made to a cosy little space with blankets, pillows and mattresses. both of them were lying on their backs watching the sun set in front of them whilst the waves crashed against the beach. they talked about their future and what they wanted to achieve. the formula 3 driver’s dream future wasn’t hard to guess, formula 1 was of course the ultimate dream but although he was so talented he wasn’t optimistic in getting to that top tier. this however y/n just waved away reassuring lando that if somebody were to get there it was him and tried to fill him with the confidence boosting thoughts he needed to brush away his irrational thoughts.
”but what about you y/n/n? since the day i met you i’ve always been talking about formula one but you’ve never expressed any of your dreams?” he said tilting his head looking at y/n.
”oh, well i don’t know if i have any specific dreams like you.. it sounds so cliché but i truly just wanna experience so much in my life so that maybe one day i wouldn’t need a storybook to tell my children bedtime stories you know? so i could just tell them about all the adventures i’ve been on instead” y/n responded.
”aaw that’s sweet of you. i’m sure that will happen for you and your kids are gonna be thrilled about hearing all about it. i hope i’ll be a part of at least one of your bedtime stories” lando smiled.
y/n smiled back ”i’m sure you’re going to be, but we both know that i also have too much need of academic validation so i’m gonna have to do something about that first, get a degree in something at least” y/n laughed while thinking about also making her family proud as she was often seen as the ’smart’ one in the family. lando chuckled a bit responding that she was the smartest girl he knew before he opened up his arms for her to come and lay on his chest. y/n snuggled in putting her head on his chest and resting her arm on his stomach. she thanked lando for the compliment although ’the smartest girl he knew’ -bar wasn’t very high to be honest. soon their both giggles died out in to a comfortable silence while the pair were holding each other closely. lando thinking about how he wanted to stay this close to y/n forever and y/n thinking about how lando’s arms were the safest she had ever felt. y/n lied so closely she could hear lando’s heartbeat in the silence. both of them were falling for each other, none of them knowing about the other persons feelings.
”lando?” y/n whispered.
”hm?” lando whispered back.
”can you promise that we will always stay like this? … like friends?” she added as her initial thought about expressing her feelings felt too overwhelming at the moment.
”i promise y/n, always” lando whispered back with a small voice crack revealing tears that were held back. oh how he wanted to tell her the truth.
y/n could feel her heart rip. it killed her slowly thinking about how this embrace and these safe arms didn’t belong to her. and if she never get the courage to tell lando they would never do.

Re: Toriyama's passing:
Dragon Ball was there for me and my sister, we'd watch with our Nan after school every day. It provided some much needed solace from the tension of home, and unlike other superpower shows at the time, said anyone could be strong if they worked hard enough - a message we needed.
I wrote about Toriyama's work and influence for GCSE art, his world building got me into writing and I'd be scribbling away in class. I came back to this crucible of creativity in 2016 and made so many friends, who are still here today.
In 2017 my grandmothers and mother died very close together, and again engaging in familiar creativity helped me get through.
All this to say -
When someone so influentual passes we grieve not the person - how could we, we didn't know them - but the parts of our lives they touched. And because the grief is expressed wider, shared, understood, we can unlock losses we're not quite finished with yet and grieve them in safe company, too.
So RIP Akira Toriyama, but I also hope whatever's been unlocked for y'all leaves you more at peace by the end.

Oh FFS, this tweet actually made my brain hurt!!!
https://twitter.com/stacemcw/status/1821890155256438867?s=19
Lottie is not very bright in general and admits she has a terrible memory and finds retaining information tricky. She didn't even secure the GCSEs she needed to get into sixth form.
Elsewhere in the book, she mistakenly claims that Louis was touring in 2017/2018 so couldn't be around for Fizzy.
They'll probably correct this in the second edition.

Tagged by @garglyswoof and @purplesigebert. I honestly don’t rewatch films as much nowadays, since I just watch a LOT of films in general and don’t have any remaining time to rewatch stuff as well. But I do have a load of comfort movies I think, so here we go.
Top 10 Comfort Movies (in no particular order)
1. Ever After (1998) Because Gabby made an excellent point, that movie is amazing, it’s pretty historically accurate and has some good moral life lessons thrown in. Cinderella movies, just in general, are a comfort movie for me, and I went through a phase when I was younger of just watching every variation ever made (even the shitty versions, much to my horror).
2. A Cinderella Story (2004) Again, it’s a cinderella movie, and an iconic one at that. I’m a secret romantic at heart.
3. Deathnote (2017) Yes I realise this was generally hated by all. But this was my first introduction to Death Note (I binge watched the anime series straight after don’t worry) and whatever your grievances for this movie, William Dafoe is brilliant at whatever he does, and playing Ryuk is no different. For a live action adaptation, I thought the design of Ryuk was pretty spot on and beautifully terrifying, and although the storyline crosses over into cheesy American, it’s easy to watch. Which is why it ended up as a comfort movie for me while I was taking my GCSEs - I often put it on in the background while working on my art coursework.
4. The Day After Tomorrow (2004) Here’s the thing guys - disaster movies are my comfort movies. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s the bitter, Gen-Z in me, but I enjoy watching the world descend into chaos and destruction. They’re easy to watch, the good guys often prevail against the ruthless attack of nature herself in the end, and idk, I like seeing a little death, a little fire. I’m just made different. Sometimes the shittier the disaster movie the better, so I’m talking things like Greenland (2020), Geostorm (2017) etc. That being said, zombie movies also fall into this category, just love all kinds.
5. White House Down (2013) Along the similar vein as disaster movies, I love the-government-is-under-attack movies, so the Olympus Has Fallen (2013) trilogy too. Just something about very American, cheesy action movies that are just easy to watch, require no brain power, and are just a fun ride.
6. Don’t Look Up (2021) Did I mention disaster movies are my jam? This one is pretty political, but I’m British, so I think I also enjoyed it so much because I can just sit to the side, eating my popcorn, and watch as the shitshow enfolds like the chaos gremlin I am, with no true existential crisis about how doomed my country is.
7. Inglorious Basterds (2009) Quentin Tarantino is an amazing filmmaker on a whole, and although gory, brutal and - let’s face it - a little crazy, his movies are always a blast to watch. And you get to see the characters kill a load of Nazis, inlcuding Hitler, so it’s a win win.
8. Love Actually (2003) Felt obligated to put another rom-com on here because I can be a normal person and watch rom-coms for comfort (I promise). It’s also a christmas movie, so like will only watch it around December, but eh, still counts.
9. The Impossible (2012) Another disaster movie, but it’s a true story this time, and I’ve re-watched this one a lot. It’s sad and angsty yes, but there’s something hopeful about the family reuniting after such a traumatic event, and how humanity comes together in crisis to help each other.
10. The Batman (2022) Maybe it’s become a comfort movie because I’ve rewatched it so many times for my dissertation but I really love this film, and I can’t get enough of it. I just love every aspect about it. And will get a craving where I’m like ‘I need to watch The Batman again’. And so I do.
Lol and that’s it. I will say I tend to watch Friends now if I want something on in the background, or just something to cheer me up. That’s my all-time piece of comfort media I tend to watch. Otherwise, these also work. And I love them all.

Wattpad really is bitching fr because I've been on wattpad since 2012 (I went on a hiatus back in like 2016/2017?) Didn't go back on until 2020/21 and when I came back it was SO different 😵‍💫. It truly was easier to get away with stuff back then vs now!!
It really is always the English teachers being the best!! (Mine wasn't exactly attractive but he wasn't bad looking) and I enjoyed History, but she was friends with my older brother and I hated it LMAOOOO. They went to college together back in the day. But my geography teacher... all the girls fancied him 🫠 he was the best and super chill. But we really can't forget about the humanities teachers 👀 & secondary school really was a fever dream!!! The ONLY reason I'd go back is because of my teachers. Nothing else 😩 I MISS IT. I'm adulting and still job hunting, it sucks! 😭
Also sorry it got sent in three times JDKDKDK it told me it failed to send ffs 💀making me look like a clown. Trains and tumblr do not mix🤡
That's pretty interesting it was dependant on set in your school! For us, we only had sets for the science and maths GCSEs. Everyone read the same thing across all of our forms, in my school!
wattpad just fell off after they introduced ads and some next subscription bs 💀
OHOH THE HISTORY/GEOGRAPHY/HUMANITIES TEACHERS WERE ALSO THE BEST !! they were so easy going and fun to talk to and even though he subjects were hard, just the teachers themselves made the lessons worth attending 🥹
and don’t worry about all the asks !! i appreciate spam even if it wasn’t your intention 😭🫶

Church and charity leaders call for end to two-child limit
The two-child limit on benefits is leaving families in “acute hardship”, Christian leaders have said.
The Child Poverty Action Group (CPAG) and the Church of England are calling on the new Labour government to abolish the controversial policy this year.
Tumblr media
Under the current policy, benefit payments for most families are limited to two children for those born after 6 April 2017. Charities say this has resulted in families losing thousands of pounds a year for additional children born after that time.
Figures published by HM Revenue & Customs and the Department for Work and Pensions today reveal that the policy affected a record 1.6m children in the year to April 2024, up from 1.5m in the previous year.
A survey of 560 affected families by CPAG found that nearly half (45%) were struggling to pay their rent or mortgage because of the policy, while a similar proportion (46%) were finding it difficult to manage childcare costs.
Most families (93%) said the policy had affected their ability to pay for food, while 82% reported struggling to cover gas or electricity bills.
Some parents reported keeping children out of school because they could not afford basic items like shoes, while some mothers had been forced to cut their maternity leave short because they needed to work.
One single parent in full-time work said their child could no longer take GCSE PE because of associated costs.
“One of my children was on a pathway to play under 14’s England netball team but had to stop, I just couldn’t pay monthly fees and take them to training and games,” they said.
One working mother said: “My number one reason for doing anything is my children, yet when I watch them queuing in a foodbank with me because I physically can’t provide for them, I feel horrific, it makes you feel like an absolute failure.”
Chief Executive of Child Poverty Action Group Alison Garnham said: “Children are losing their life chances to the two-child limit now — they can’t wait for the new government to align every star before the policy is scrapped.
“The PM came to office pledging a bold, ambitious child poverty-reduction plan and there’s no way to deliver on that promise without scrapping the two-child limit, and fast. This is not the time for procrastination or prevarication — the futures of 1.6 million children are on the line.”
The Bishop of Leicester, Martyn Snow, said: “The testimonies in this report remind us that the two-child limit continues to affect the wellbeing and life chances of too many children and families in this country. Abolishing this unfair policy is essential if we are to turn the tide on poverty and ensure that every child is supported to flourish in all areas of life.”

My Story
How did I start surfing? I'd gone surfing a couple times over the years when I was a kid and I really loved those times but id never had the means or equipment to do it on my own terms and when I wanted until now.
2015 Devon - went with the family to Devon and I tried surfing for the first time and I instantly loved it. Couldn't get me out of the water, I was out there for hours because of how much I loved it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
2016 Devon - In 2018, I went to the same place with my friend after we finished our GCSES for a treat. Unfortunately the waves weren't very good so we couldn't surf much, but the whole experience of going there and going to surf shops was really fun.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
2017 Wales - On holiday in Wales and my parents surprise booked me a surf lesson at surf snowdonia, a manmade wave machine. It was only an hour long, so it left me wanting to do more.
Tumblr media
2018 africa - In my 2018 summer, I went with my family to Africa and they booked me a surf lesson again, so I had lots of fun and got to meet the locals teaching us the basics of how to surf.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2023 Newgale Wales - Me and my best friend decided to go on a mini surf trip because we wanted to learn together, I borrowed someones board and bought one on Facebook for £100 and we set off on our trip for 5 days of surf. We had so much fun and by the end of it we could both stand.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why did I start surfing? I started surfing because it looked really fun and I love being in the sea. I'd tried it before when I was younger but I couldn't do it as a hobby because I didn't have a car or any of the gear to surf. It took a push from me and my friend to start doing it because we're both homebodies who struggle with mental health, but it's been 100% worth it.
How long have I been surfing? Ive only been surfing for 4 months and ive been able to notice a major difference in my mental health and my attitude to things. I feel more energised
What was your first time surfing like? My first time surfing as a kid was the BEST feeling, it just wanted to keep doing it and I didn't want to come out of the water, I wasn't even doing it with anyone, it was a solo activity and it felt so fun and freeing. I always thought sine then that I wanted to do it regularly, but only until now have I actually had the resources to go myself.
if I was to talk about surfing the first time in regards to recently, now that I'm able to pick it up as a hobby, id express the feeling as exactly the same. It feels so freeing and refreshing because you're in the cold sea.
When do I go surfing? When I go, depends on the wave forecast, but usually it will be early in the morning because the swell is better. It's also less busy, so you don't have to fight for waves with other surfers. A good part of surfing means I have to get up early, so it gets me off to a good start for my day. A cold surf and then a warm shower makes gets me energised or the rest of the day.
Whats the prep like before surfing? Prep for surfing is usually very quick. Wake up, put on swim wear and wetsuit, pop the boards on the roof and then we drive to bournemouth pier, so we can be ready in about 20 minutes if we want to go.
How often do I go surfing? Pretty regularly as I count it as exercise, if I don't go surfing/ the waves aren't good, I'll go to the gym instead. I tend to go a mixture of surfing and gym at least 3 times a week, as I'm trying to get into a healthier lifestyle and routine than I was in.
Are there any negatives I've experienced when surfing? Some negatives I can think of are that other surfers can sometimes be rude, so I've had to stand my ground before because they think they own the sea. Other negatives can sometimes be that, on the surf cams they have in bournemouth, the surf can look really good, you get there and the waves could be too intense or too flat to surf and its quite deflating when you've worked yourself to go surfing.

Hiii, i’m from the UK so do you have any tips for gcses? I just started year 11 and I noticed you did really well !!!
hihi omgggg im fully prepared for this since i legit had to do an assembly about my tips for the year 11s and 10s HAHAHAH
since this will be pretty lengthy…
okay so these are my subjects and the grade i got in them:
maths -> 9
english lit -> 9
english lang -> 9
history -> 9
religious studies -> 9
business -> 8
spanish -> 8
further maths -> 8
physics -> 8
chemistry -> 7
biology ->
so since you’re in year eleven already, it’ll be quite similar to how i achieved these grades!
i didn’t start revising like that until like the end of the summer that was going into year eleven, so the summer you just had but even if you didn’t start revising during then, you still have time! don’t panic yet!!!
firstly, just have a look at each specification of your subjects and print them out/make a digital checklist because it’ll be really easy to identify your weak spots. you still have until mid may so if you start covering weak spots then by mid february you should be fine. speaking as someone who messed around a lot in year 10, if your notes are good enough or even if you start to pay so much attention in those extra revision classes, they’ll really really benefit you.
for maths and sciences, practise questions are your best shot honestly. for maths as well, most of the exam boards have a cycle of questions they use so if you familiarise yourself with the questions they’ve used since 2017, you’re guaranteed a 7 already but make sure to go over all the topics of the questions you get wrong! then for sciences, learning the language that the examiners like is so important because the marks you miss out can literally be that you didn’t centralise it around a keyword - that can jeopardise your entire sequence of questions.
now for the english subjects. starting off with literature: i always found it good to be engaged with discussions about the texts in class to keep myself from getting boring bc then you can miss out on so many key grade nine concepts! so make sure you do listen out for those and read model answers from people who’ve gotten like full marks! these will not only help you with structure and quotes but it’ll help you with learning the grade nine language because there’s a huge difference between even the grade seven and grade nine answers.
for english language, technique is the most important thing to master. after all, the exam is assessing how you can understand technique so learning how to spot them and analyse them are so important. there are a few that are always repeated no matter the text so make sure you familiarise yourself with those too!
for religious studies, i always found this to be easy since i would put my source of authorities (the holy quotes) on a flashcards with what they link to on the other side but idk tbh my teacher was js really good for religious studies! she made us booklets for preparing ourselves for any type of question and she predicted a bunch of the questions. but my tip would be to just stay focused and make sure your notes are good and minimal because you don’t really need a lot.
for business my tho is the same, my notes were just really good and clear but also make sure you know how to answer big questions!
spanish, i used menrise for fifteen minutes every day until like a month before the exam and i started using it for an hour every day. and i memorised complex structures, imperfect tense like all the grade 9 stuff. i practised writing it and then i spoke it and for listening and reading i would get my friends to help me. for instance, i’d read and translate something my friend wrote which would also help us identify any mistakes. and for listening, we would speak to each other and translate it which was also good for preparing for the speaking exam!
history was my favourite, and my teacher was AMAZING! but for history understanding the links between time periods is very good. also, understanding the link between cause, event and consequence is very helpful as it minimises information. for my 20 markers i got full marks consistently and in the exams, so what i can say about those are to make sure your writing flows very smoothly and learn tips to write sophisticatedly as the whole point of the top hand answers are the elegant answers rather than throwing dates and information - they’re a sequence of detailed sentences to argue a point after all.
further maths was so hard idek how i got an 8, i just practised questions and prayed so much..
i think i covered everything but ensuring you have a timetable is so important. i know many people who did well but didn’t have the same timetable as me which is fine but i’ll share mine:
at the beginning of the year, around the end of september, i would wake up at half five and revise for about two hours until i started getting ready for school. then when i got home, from six to eight was all my homework and extra work.
when it got closer to exam season, my hours would bulk up to waking up at half four and starting after school studying at half five and finishing at half nine. but remember these included BREAKS. breaks are so important or you’ll get burned out!! i’ve seen it happen.
i also had one day a week where i would only study for about two hours, at any time if the day, and for the rest of it i would treat myself or just relax ! this was so important for a balance and i kept it up until the very end of my exams. if you don’t have this day, you’ll literally fry your brain and get exhausted.
i hope my tips helped! don’t wear yourself out, start little by little every day and i’m always here if you need help with anything else! good luck and remember to have time for fun, year eleven only comes around once. good grades are important but they aren’t the be all and end all.
