Also me: Six getting his memory erased in "Six Minus Six" and Rex trying to make him remember is meant to parallel just how terrifying it must've been for Six and Holiday when Rex would sometime lose his memories before canon started. We know from what Tuck told Rex that he had lost his memories so many times, he would keep a notebook on him to make sure he would remember. How many times had this happen, for it to be a habit. How many memories did Rex lose when he was in Providence. How much of his own life does Rex actually remember during those years. Did Rex and Six bonded and got close before Rex inevitably blacks out and forgets everything again. How absolutely horrifying is it for Rex, a child in everything but title, to wake up with no idea who he is at a goddamn government facility and treated nothing more than a weapon. How heartbreaking had it been for Holiday, a mother figure who treats Rex like a child- how he should be treated- to see him not recall anything about her. How absolutely soul-crushing had it be for Six, who had taught this kid to survive and how to stay strong, to see that same kid act in fear. Did Providence did something similar to what Rex did, keeping a log of everything about him so he could know right away. How awful is that. How absolutely batshit, fucking insanely immoral it is that a child have to go through. To lose memories and be conditioned about waking up a military base. But in the eyes of Providence, he isn't a child. He's a weapon, an asset at best, and a monster at worst.

"That," says White. "Is the Asset."

Noah looks closer. The boy's got a nasty case of redeye, his pupils practically glowing with a reflective blue light.

This is the Cure?

Noah reaches out before he can think better of it. It's smooth—no different than metal, save for the fact that it's slightly warm to the touch, like a piece of silverware after it's been held for a while. It's… weird. 

When he pulls his hand away, the metal falls apart, liquefying again and folding back into its hand—its glove not even so much as stained by the process.

Noah's gaze, along with everyone's, is fixed on the Asset. He's seen high definition pictures and videos. The giant machines anchored to its signature red jacket, shoulder cannon the size of a truck, propulsion legs like twin hydraulic presses.

He had expected its presence in person to be even more physics-defying. Larger than life. Like a natural disaster, or a catastrophic accident. Something awe-inspiring and terrible that can't be real but is. 

But up close, the Asset… looks human.

"You, uh, you need help?"

"No." Rex takes a wad of paper towels and wets them in the sink before wiping off his face. He doesn't bother trying to dab any of the blood out of his shirt or jacket—just tosses the bloodied towels and gathers more dry ones that he presses to his forehead. He leans back against the sink, staring at the floor.

Through all of it, Noah notes that he doesn't take off his gloves.

"What do I do in this one?"

"You're a spaceship and you have to shoot at the alien ships and rocks and stuff. If you make it through enough waves then you fight the boss."

The Asset's eyes are glued to the monitor, excitement rolling off of it as the first wave begins, playing its "futuristic" music. 

Noah snorts. It's maybe a little infectious.

omg hi. I'm so sorry, i'm TERRIBLE at reblogging polls and forgetting to tag what my answers were. My answers for this post about the reasons I post fic, were: 1. I thought about blorbo and took 5d8 psychic damage, which is now YOUR problem 2. I Can Make It Better

for option 1 I was thinking moreso about why I write Danny fanfic. The whole reason I wrote SWWDF was because I just KEPT thinking about scary danny and I was like "I need to inflict this on as many people as I can".

and for the 2nd option I was absolutely thinking about why Fae and I write GenRex fanfic asdfghjkl; I love that show but man... it could have been so much better imo.... at the very least it could have been more CONSISTENT.

I want yall to know you are singlehandedly feeding the genrex shaped brain worms ive harbored since i was like. 11. I remember scrolling the wasteland of the genrex ao3 tag awhile ago (as i do, because i like to trick myself into thinking more than maybe 30 people globally remember this show) and picking up failure condition on a whim and being absolutely FLOORED! Immediately, was like, oh. Oh these authors GET IT, they really *GET* it. So stoked to see establish connection is ongoing!!! Thank you for writing 🙏🙏🙏
