Hello, Gerec! I hope you are doing okay! I go to AO3 almost every day, to see how Kink Meme fest is going. I'm curios if you took someone's prompt to write a fic. Have a good day :)

I have! In fact I have 4 fics on the go at the moment, though I'm not sure they'll all be done by the end of the Fest. The writing has been slow going, partly because porn is hard to write (imo) and also, I haven't found that one prompt/idea that really lights my Muse on fire. I had that in last year's Fest, and because I was in such a writing zone it really helped me get more than one fic done :D

Don't worry if you haven't seen more stuff posted yet; the works aren't revealed until Oct. 15 so I'm sure more will pop up closer to that date. Also, if there are others like me they may not make claims on things until they're sure they have something to post, so there might be more fics being worked on than what's currently flagged as 'claimed'...

First-lines-of-fic meme! I was tagged by @destinationtoast. 😘

Rules: share the first lines of ten of your most recent fanfics and tag ten people. If you have written fewer than ten, don’t be shy and share anyway.

So...I have published ten fics total, and rather than posting the first lines of every single one of them, I’m going to mix this up and do my five most recent as well as my five current WIPs, because I have somehow become a person with five substantially written WIPs, I cry. (This is clearly an attempt at public accountability, help lol).

All fics are X-Men, of course, and unless otherwise marked, Charles/Erik:

Published!

1. “to put the world between us” (25K words, actor AU)

The drive should take two hours, but Erik manages it in ninety minutes, using his powers to floor the gas pedal as he scrambles the occasional police scanner. When he whips into the hotel parking lot in a spray of gravel, Emma’s mental greeting is half is half warm, half weary.

2. “Unlived Histories (The Double Vision Remix)” (18K words, remix, time travel)

Erik didn’t know it then, but everything started to change on Charles’s sixteenth birthday.

3. “Correspondence” (13K words, part of a canon-divergent series set in 1963)

When Charles wakes, he stretches out his mind and then his arm, groping at the opposite side of the bed. Erik isn’t there, though the sheets are still warm.

4. “What We Inherit” (20K words, David & Charles, father-son bonding)

David first starts to suspect that something’s up when his father gets a phone call very early on Tuesday morning.

5. “the way it travels in and keeps emitting light” (29K words, accident and recovery, enemies to friends to lovers)

Erik lets himself into Raven’s building on Friday evening, waving a hand as the locks click open. As he rides the converted freight elevator up to the top floor, he sinks his powers into all those sturdy old pulleys and gears—one thing on the long list of reasons he prefers Raven’s apartment to his own.

WIPs!

(obviously these are not set in stone)

1. The “Charles bailing Erik out of jail” fic I am currently writing for @ikeracity for Fandom Trumps Hate! (Ike you get a sneak peek lol) (ps I'm legit obsessed with writing this fic rn, thank you again for your prompt):

 “One phone call” is only a thing in the movies—but the cops don’t give you unlimited phone calls, either. This turns out to be a problem when all your friends were either arrested alongside you or are completely fucking worthless.

2. Multiverse/time travel fic that begins 8 months after the events of XMFC:

They’re moving quickly through the woods that surround the facility when Emma slows and makes a clicking sound with her tongue. Erik holds out his arms to halt the rest of the group.

3. Sequel to “What We Inherit,” still about David & Charles, but also with some (semi-hostile) cherik as well:

It’s a beautiful late-summer day, with a bright blue sky stretching above the sandy dunes that extend from the house out towards the Atlantic.

But David can’t see any of that right now, because he’s sitting in his bedroom, reading a book.

4. Media AU (trust me, this first line makes sense in context lol):

DAVID REMNICK: This is The New Yorker Radio Hour. I’m David Remnick.

5. Big Billions AU I started writing in early 2020 🥲 that I’ve finally picked up again this year:

Crowds, the common wisdom goes, are one of the truest tests of a telepath’s strength and skill. Never mind that there’s far more to telepathy than brute force and blunt shielding—with a packed train or a busy bar or a stadium full of revelers, it’s easier to see just how effectively a person can block out other minds.

Not that they were all executed smoothly. There were plenty glitches with my execution of all these events. But, hey, I take my victories as they come

I really hope I’d created some content for the capri fandom last year, but that’s something I can always work on this year.

1. This Dark!Charles horror poem from Cherik Week. This was incredibly fun to make and it was the first time I attempted something like that for a fanfic. I am still really proud of how it turned out for a first try and it'll be always on my list of favorite things I've done.

2. Drawn Conclusions, the fic I wrote with @secretlymagneto. Just the fact I got to write a story with Simon made me really happy and I still look back at it a lot because it was such a silly concept but I still remember the fun it was to joke around with Simon before I ended up writing the first chapter.

3. Love starts with an open door, my family au for Cherik Week! This has to be one of the favorite things I've ever written. I started writing it when things were getting harder for me last year and this fic just brought me so much comfort when I wrote it. It was also my first time (I think) writing Cherik with a big family. I keep gushing about it even if now there are things I would've written differently (but hey! that's just the writer's experience).

4. Various Storms & Saints, another Dark!Charles fic but multi-chaptered this time. This fic was written and rewritten again at least three times before I got this end result and it's still one of my favorites. I love exploring Charles' chatacter and making him go through hell (rip Charles but he's always my victim) and this one was great to write. I remember being really proud of it when I finished and I'm still proud of it now.

5. Wrap me up, unfold me, the victorian au that's still being written but that I wrote in May and only posted at the end of the year. I absolutely love this fic and it's not even finished yet, I never wrote a period piece before - never even tried - and this was a new experience to me but that so far is being incredibly pleasant (even with all the research I have to do for it RIP). I never thought I'd enjoy writing a period drama/romance half as much as I enjoy writing this one.

That's my top 5 best things I've written mostly for just how much I loved writing them. Not all of them are the ones that got the most attention but they are the ones that I constantly look back to!

Okay, here we go:

1) Random Encounter: My unexpected modern Pride & Prejudice AU, where Charles is an writer of erotic fiction and he sees an impossibly handsome man on the Tube one day and falls in lust... and eventual love?  

This is a WIP, but its probably the most fun I’ve had writing a fic all year!

2) Just One More Question: My contribution to the Cherik Big Bang this year!  It was so amazing to write this fic, as I’d started it years ago and finally had a chance to finish it - plus it has beautiful art by @belgianreader2!

“Erik meets Charles at Pub Quiz League and it is hate at first sight. But, his team does need a new member and Moira is insistent that Charles is just what they need.Erik is not happy about Charles, despite his trivia skill. Can time change his opinion? What about an unexpected revelation or two?“

3) Then Came You: A contribution to the Remix Madness!  I was so honoured to write a prequel of sorts to one of my favourite Cherik WIPs by @pinkoptics,  ‘Ever Found Exactly What You Wanted (With Someone You Can't Have it With?)’

This is the story of how Charles came to be the Nanny in the Lehnsherr household.

4) Senses: My first ever fic for The Old Guard.  I had to tackle my own version of how Joe and Nicky meet, with a little twist.  I’m very proud of myself for branching out this year and trying new things - including writing for a new fandom and falling in love with a new ship: Immortal Husbands :)

5) An Omega’s Worth: My baby.  My long fic of the year.  I was hoping to have this one done in 2020, but it was not to be.  I will finish it in 2021 though!

Cherik with a Regency, A/B/O dynamic.  I’ve always loved Regency romance novels, and this has been my shot to write one of my own with my OTP!

Reconciliation - 1,278 words, Cherik fandom, post-Dark Phoenix.

This is a favorite because it helped me make my peace with the way Charles and Hank’s relationship was left at the end of Dark Phoenix. I found it really satisfying to fill in that gap.

Charles calls Hank from Paris, and they say some things they needed to say.

Peace and Unity - 951 words, Cherik fandom.

This is a very unusual tone for me, dark yet cracky. It was SO much fun to write.

“Charles, are you all right?” Raven said cautiously. “You’re acting… a little strange.” “Oh, I act like this all the time," Charles said absently. “You just don’t remember it later.” 

Morph - 3k, Cherik fandom, Animorphs AU.

The audience for this is a little... niche, but man, I still love Animorphs so much.

Charles and his friends have been through a lot of awful stuff since the night they found a crashed spaceship, the night a dying alien gave them the power to morph and a chance to save their planet from invasion.

a.k.a. Charles and Erik rob a candy store and have their first kiss.

if i leave before you, darling - 688 words, She-Ra fandom, post-series

I went through a hardcore angst phase with this pairing (Catradora), kinda still in it, and I just really loved how this came out.

“What would you do if I died?” Catra says. “I mean… I know you’d be sad, but you’d eventually find someone else, right?”

watch your step (love is broken) - 3.9k, She-Ra fandom, mid-s4

I’m ridiculously proud of this one. The angst is killer, and I’m just still in love with the whole concept.

"You're in heat, kitten." Double Trouble shifted, and it was not their own voice that continued, but Adora's. "I'd be happy to help you with that."
