In the Name of the Moon, I Will Pirate You!
What you need:
Paid VPN/Proxy/Seedbox
Beginner-level or better Google-Fu
The desire to right the wrongs of Sonny Bono and Micky Mouse
First off, we’ll cover the differences between the options listed above. Most people have a vague idea of what a VPN is, but to briefly explain it’s a server you create a “virtual private network” with, that uses an encrypted “tunnel” to hide your data from prying eyes. Think of it like sending a piece of mail written in code, with the downside being that it takes time to decipher it. VPNs are fantastic for hiding information from rogue networks such as a coffee shop, mitigating “Man-in-the-Middle” attacks, however that encryption is actually a (minor) detriment for piracy, as it impacts the speed of the connection. Despite that, this is what I would recommend for most people to buy.
Proxies, on the surface, are similar to VPNs but lack the encryption capabilities. This allows you to change your IP address *and* retain a high speed. Are usable with most of what people use (web browsers), but miss out on the encryption benefits and thus are less useful overall.
Seedboxes are, again, conceptually similar except that the piracy happens on their machine, and at blazing fast speeds. However these options are typically far more expensive than proxies/VPNs, although a fair portion come with a VPN as well. Essentially, with a seedbox you are renting space on someone else’s server, one that ignores copyright notices. This option, despite the cost, is the SAFEST OPTION. If you live in countries where piracy can easily result in $100USD+ fines, I recommend this. Also useful for those who wish to host a Plex server to share the content with friends/family outside of a LAN.
NEVER USE SKETCHY FREE VPN/PROXY SERVICES THEY ARE MAKING A COPY OF EVERYTHING YOU SEND AND EVERY APP YOU DOWNLOAD IS MALWARE.
Now, with all of that out of the way, it’s time to obtain the torrenting software and VPN.
I suggest using qBittorrent, which is fairly user-friendly, but there are a host of free and open source software (FOSS) for torrenting that you can see here.
Now, look for a VPN/proxy that allows for port-forwarding. I won't make any specific recommendations (because they ain't paying me), but any that allow port-forwarding will suffice (and even some that won't, albeit speeds will suffer). Now, you want to bind the VPN to the torrent client. First, install the VPN and get it set up, then test its properly active by going here. For qBittorrent, you want to hit the gear in the top right:
From there, go to the next set of gears subtitled "Advanced":
From here, things get a bit more VPN-specific. The short of it is, though, you want to check the "Network Interface" dropdown and take note of what is available. From there, you turn the VPN off and look for what interface disappeared. THAT is your VPN interface, and what you want qBittorent to bind to.
And that should be it! You can test it by using the test torrents here, here, and here. If they all turn back with the IP your VPN uses, then you're good! Now, for the final stretch. Using your Google-Fu, find the MANY different options available for torrenting, as a head start though I would recommend fmhy.

People will tell you all sorts of nonsense about how to set your TV up to run off a computer instead of the tvs software. Here's what has worked for me over and over.
Disconnect your TV from the internet so it can't update/pull in ads
Get a computer with at least 4 gigabytes of ram and 32 gigabytes of disk space (thin clients are great for this), if you already have one even better!
Connect it via Ethernet if possible
Connect it to your tv, if your computer is older you may need a visual adapter, these are widely available but I recommend buying off ebay because that's the cheapest place ive found and the quality is almost always good
Install VLC
Install Firefox with ublock origin at least for ad blocking
Now you can watch off yt, twitch, whatever other sketchy sites for free content
If you want to torrent public domain media download qbittorrent
If your ISP is weird about it you can set qbittorrent to use a vpns network connection in the advanced configuration section of settings (mullvad is recommended for this but ymmv)
You can watch your public domain media with vlc now

How to replace Microsoft and support the BDS boycott
reach out to your tech friends about replacing windows with an alternative operating system, such as linux or a *BSD OS. if you decide to do this on your own, make sure to back up your hard drive first. windows profits off your usage data (even if you never paid for it) and can use it to train their AI, which is arming israel.
if your work or school requires you to acquire windows, look up massgrave (it's very simple to activate windows).
duckduckgo is just microsoft's bing in a trench coat. they have made a secret exception for microsoft's tracking services in the past. check out Searx instances, or try alternative indie web search engines such as Marginalia or Wiby.
if you're using microsoft's outlook for email, consider Tuta or Disroot (avoid proton; it's all privacy theatre that's only somewhat better than other email providers, and the CEO has voiced support for trump).
don't pay to watch the minecraft movie that's coming out. i've heard it's incredibly underwhelming anyway.
insist on playing minecraft but don't want to give microsoft money? avoid bedrock edition. check out UltimMC if you need a way to acquire java edition and you don't own it. if you're a server operator, you can set your server to offline mode in server.properties which allows people who acquire minecraft the cool way to connect, but this should be paired with a server-side authentication plugin/mod for safety reasons (in offline mode, anyone can log in with any username, including a whitelisted or operator username, and there are bots scanning for servers to grief). don't use realms. disable telemetry with mods if you can.
get a vpn (i recommend airvpn for p2p connections) and download qBittorrent. in case you're interested in media published by microsoft. or just in general. learn to torrent, and make sure all your torrent traffic goes through your vpn service.
if you're using microsoft edge, consider switching to an alternative browser such as LibreWolf (basically firefox with better privacy and security out of the box; mozilla is not the innocent robin hood figure they're made out to be) or Ungoogled-Chromium (chromium without the google spyware; unfortunately lacks auto-update in most cases).
if you're using microsoft's AI for anything, consider getting a library card instead.

As streaming services are scaming us left and right, torrenting becomes a more and more valuable option...
Of course, you should NEVER do it. It's illegal and WRONG.
This is how these thieves are doing this... it's honestly awful how easy it is... 💔
These evil people need a VPN. And they can even get it for free. OperaGX has a free VPN!
Thieves would need to download a torrent client. Again, there are many free options! How awful! Qbittorrent is a free program! How dare they!
Now they would need to find a reliable torrent website. There are many options and to find them they would only have to search something like: "best torrent websites 2025"
When they downloaded a torrent file they would have to put it in the torrent client. And they will have movies, TV shows, series. Literally anything they want, for free! Fucking disgusting!
It's so scary, evil, terrible, that torrenting is so easy! DON'T EVER DO IT. IT'S SO BAD. You would be a very very very bad person! How dare you steal like that from helpless big corporations! 😭💔

Hey, kid. Yeah. You. You want free movies and TV shows?
Well, first of all, Internet Archive. Yes, the Wayback Machine people. They have a lot of movies and shows 'n shit you're gonna have a hard time finding elsewhere. (Also, the Alien movies?????) So if you're looking for something weird or niche or old, you might wanna start your search there.
Second of all: In order to get free goodies ✨elsewhere✨, you need three (3) things.
A VPN (virtual private network)
qBittorrent (or some other torrent client, but this is really the go-to these days.)
Places to go, y'know, get stuff.
First: the VPN
This unfortunately is probably going to cost you money. Free VPNs typically collect data, are extremely slow, and/or don't even allow peer to peer downloading in the first place. Beyond that, they're more likely to turn tail and rat you out to your internet service provider (ISP) and get you in trouble. You then get a nice little DMCA letter in the mail threatening you. Get enough of those, and your ISP will kick you out of your plan with them. That's why you need the VPN in the first place--to avoid that.
Be careful to choose a VPN that won't sell your data, allows peer to peer downloading, and won't rat you out to your ISP. There are plenty of discussions about that, and recommendations you can find. Just don't blindly go for the ones you see advertised everywhere (NordVPN, for instance) as those are more likely to sell your data, which is like... antithetical to why you would be using a VPN anyway. Just read the ToS. Personally, I use Mozilla VPN, and I'm very happy with it.
Mozilla VPN, if you buy a full year, is $4.99/mo, billed annually for $59.88. As far as I can tell, this is pretty average as far as cost goes for VPNs. As opposed to spending two or three times that a month for one (1) streaming service... you're gonna save some money.
(Also, as a bonus, if you live in a state where porn websites have started requiring age verification or have completely stopped functioning, you can use this to get around that by making the website think you're in another state! Region locked youtube video? Not anymore! Nervous about being on a public network at the airport or in a coffee shop? Worry not my friend! There are many benefits to having a VPN. Just be aware that some websites and applications do not like VPNs and will flag as suspicious activity (i.e. your bank, paypal, Netflix...) and you're going to be filling out a LOT of captchas and Cloudflare might not like you. But it is what it is.)
You can also host your own VPN, but that's pretty technical, even for me, so... idk, do what you will with that information.
Second: qBittorrent
Idk man, it's qBittorrent. Just download it.
(for real tho, it's free, it's open source software (yay!) and it's not stealing your data or shoving ads down your throat. It's THE torrent client at this point.)
Third: Places to, y'know, get stuff
I gift unto you the r/Piracy megathread. Enjoy.
Frankly, most information you need, recommendations, etc. is gonna be on r/Piracy. They're a godsend. I also recommend this website for a more detailed guide on all the stuff I just put forward. I would tag the user here I got it from but it looks like they deactivated.
Also for the love of god just switch to Firefox and install ublock origin already. Trust me. Just do it. You'll be so much happier. I promise.
Okay thanks bye! Enjoy your free stuff!

hello c: i am a baby adult (over 18 tho) and i would like to learn how to torrent and perhaps also jailbreak please help
havent jailbroken anything in a long time so cant help too much there. Torrents however, amazinglyspicy's torrenting post or /r/piracy's megathread are a great way to start.
The basics though are:
Get a VPN (I use proton's atm, have to have the paid version for p2p/torrenting, but there are free ones out there)
Get firefox all set up with Ublock origin (getting rid of ads and the like eliminates most fake download buttons)
Get a torrenting client (I use qBittorrent)
Find torrents on a trusted site (can be found in the links I shared above, /r/piracy has a great list, I mostly use 1337)
I generally prefer Magnet Links over directly downloading the torrent file. I usually connect to more peers and dont have a bunch of torrent files to clean up later. The option will almost always be right next to the general torrent download.
If you stick to trusted sites and services your chances of running into trouble are pretty slim. Your torrenting client will tell you what files are in a torrent before you download it and you can catch most funny business just by looking at that. For now avoid torrents with EXE, APK, and ISO files until you are more comfortable and knowledgeable. That makes torrenting games and software harder but basically nukes the chances of downloading and installing something nasty on your comp/phone.
In addition to torrents there are tons of ways to pull movies/music/etc from the sites that are hosting them. Big fan of JDownloader 2 for stuff like YouTube videos and the like. (thank you @skinslip for turning me on to it, its been soooooooooo useful)
and last but most important PLZ SEED!, at least 24hrs after you finish downloading. Others seeding is what lets you download it in the first place, so share the love!
good luck and welcome to the high seas! 🏴☠️

I don't know if you'll see this since you don't use this account anymore, but I see you added a link to torrent the mash episodes, however I don't really understand how that works and was wondering if you could explain that site or provide a guide? I know its probably asking too much but I don't have any other way to watch the show right now and I'm not sure what on that site is spam and will get me a virus because it keeps telling me to download something to hide my ip address and that I will get in trouble if I don't. Sorry about the long ask.
you can also watch it online here! to torrent it, you first need to download a torrent client (i use qbittorrent) and install it. once it's installed, you go to the torrent link and click 'get this torrent'
this will open up in the client and in the top left you can choose where on the computer to save the files and on the right you can check and uncheck what you want to download, especially when it's a huge file like this i usually just download one season at a time. and then press ok and it will start downloading.
usually i then right click tand select 'download in sequential order' so that it downloads the first episode fully before moving on to the second one and so on
and also if you click on 'torrent options' i usually lower the download speed limit to anything under 3500 kib/s so that it doesn't take up all my internet and i can still do other stuff

omg this is gonna sound so dumb, but it's been over a decade since i pirated anything. do you have any tips or resources how to do that with games or even movies?
unfortunately i don't know of any reliable or easy to follow guides for beginners, but i can outline a few things you need to get started that might point you in the right direction:
a VPN - you'll need to pay for this but they're ESSENTIAL for hiding your IP when you're torrenting anything. i use private internet access and it's very good imo, & there are often deals on for subscriptions. you could also have a look around here for some other recommendations
a torrent client - for downloading torrents. i use qbittorrent.
a torrent site - there are a lot out there, but personally i use 1337x & bitsearch (if i can't find what i want at first i usually try here since it searches multiple sites)
so - once you have your VPN set up and active and your torrent client installed, you can search for what you want on a torrenting site like the ones listed above. there's often a lot of results from different uploaders, but whatever is listed at the top is what has been downloaded and seeded (which i'll explain later) the most.
most film/tv downloads are 720p & 1080p, and then there's varying quality between those files too -- the higher the quality the bigger the file size, generally. i try to download high quality 1080p files for gifmaking. for games, fitgirl repacks is generally the most reliable with the smallest file sizes, and you can download patches/updates from their site too.
to download a torrent, i click 'magnet download'. that'll open it in the torrent client, allow you to see what files you're downloading, change the download location if you want, and then you can start the download. and that's it! once it's done, it'll start 'seeding', basically meaning you're using some of your bandwith to share the completed file and let other users download the same file quicker. you should keep this active for as long as you're able to help others (and make sure your VPN is still on while you seed)
for something like games and programs, there's often a readme included, so you just need to follow the instructions to install whatever if it is you downloaded afterwards.
if any of this was confusing and you have other questions or need me to elaborate, please let me know!

learn to pirate. im sick of like 50k+ notes posts to some zip file hosted on a google drive or on some file sharing platform thqt gets taken down or has malware in it. a good vpn (proton, ivpn, mullvad) costs so much less than a single streaming service let alone 3 or more, plus adobe products plus whatever textbooks you're buying plus music services and whatever.
Torrent sites cannot be taken down because they host .torrent files, and they doesnt contain any pirated content, it just tells a program where to find it. Since the site doesnt host pirated content you're free to talk about it without any risk of shutting it down.
Be careful tho cuz by talking about you can increase the chances of companies finding out their stuff is on theae websites, and they can send cease and desists to the IPs that are downloading/seeding it. This issue is mitigated with a Private Tracker which only allows people who specifically have been invited by other users to download the .torrent files.
Also: Torrents are peer to peer. if someone hosting a torrent's house gets raided and gets taken down (very extreme example, AT MOST they will send a warning or a C&D to ur ISP) anyone else who downloaded the torrent is still also hosting it. as long as theres one person left on the planet that has it, you can still download it (oversimplified)
Also a note about C&Ds and ISP letters. Me and my family have been pirating content for definitely over a decade at LEAST. We mostly use invite only private trackers (google it, lots of info on reddit specifically) WITHOUT a VPN and also live in canada. All of that combined, we recieved a warning from our ISP once in 15 years(i was seeding cyberpunk 2077)
tldr go download qbittorrent and go to reddit and find private trackers for you to torrent shit from, or public trackers if you have a VPN that supports p2p

"This is why you use a reputable VPN and open source software that anonymizes your usage." Recs are appreciated. Also for search engines, Presearch shat the bed.
Mullvad is the best VPN, easy. It's reasonably priced, private, and fast. NordVPN consistently gets high marks up there with Mullvad but I haven't used it myself.
For clients, I use the old standby qBitTorrent. Transmission and Tribler are newer and have some fancy features.
I still use Presearch, but if you want to try others I think Brave Search is a cool project. They're a hybrid with results from Google, but they have their own crawler too. If you want completely unique results, there's Mojeek from the UK and Yandex from Russia.
https://www.searchenginemap.com/ is a nice visualizer so you can see how all the search engines are interconnected.

New to torrenting and nyaa, how do I choose who to download from? Like, who should I get the gqux episode from?
I typed out an incredibly detailed answer to this ask when I got it and tried to post it but because the mobile app is completely broken and never works, it never posted and I really don’t feel like typing all that out again, so sorry but this is going to offer less general advice on how nyaa is used. Though since you’re new to this, I will still remind you that you need to turn on your VPN before torrenting anything. You also need a torrenting client like qbittorrent. If your VPN has a killswitch option, enable it now and add qbittorrent to the list. This will ensure that if your VPN ever drops out, qbittorrent will immediately close so you’re not left downloading unprotected. Of all the years I’ve been torrenting, I’ve never had a problem with my ISP. The moment my brother started, he never set up the killswitch so his VPN dropped at some point while he was torrenting, he never noticed, and our ISP cut our internet until we contacted them about it so this is very important.
Now onto navigating nyaa, the short of it is that green torrents are verified and red torrents may have incorrect or missing information. Red torrents aren’t bad and can even be better than green torrents, but the title might not have all the necessary information (like resolution, video source, or remuxing settings). Just check the description and comments of a red torrent to make sure it’s what you want, but you can just download a green torrent if you’re unsure. File size should always be the first thing you check when torrenting so I always make sure nyaa’s sorting goes from largest to smallest since larger file sizes usually means better quality (but not always!). A lot of people hate large file sizes, so if you’re fine with lossy compression you can look for something smaller. If you’re not making screencaps or gifs, there isn’t a reason to always go for the huge uploads unless you really like the series.
For Gquuuuuux in particular, all of the uploads are just going to be ripped from Amazon. Video, audio, and subtitle scripts will all have identical sources so you won’t have to worry about different fandoms (this series probably won’t get any fansubs, at least not yet). If you want to listen to it in Japanese, choose a torrent that says “Dual Audio.” You won’t want “Multi Audio” if you’re not going to listen to dubs from other languages. I use Toonshub’s torrents and of the two dual audio options there’s one that’s encoded in H.264 and H.265. If those don’t mean anything to you, just pick the smaller one since they’ll all work on VLC.
You will also notice Erai-Raws as one of the GQuuuuuux uploaders and you’ll see them on every anime that’s released on an English streaming service. They just scrape video, audio, and subtitle scripts from sources like Crunchyroll, Netflix, and Amazon while using a typesetting preset that makes all their subtitles look the same. You won’t be getting fansubs out of them, but they’re a verified uploader so all their uploads are green.
GQuuuuuux is a pretty easy series to download because you won’t really go wrong with any of the torrents, but for series with more confusing options (like all the different torrents for Haruhi or Sailor Moon) it’s important to learn some of the key words used in torrent titles and to check the descriptions and comments. Some comments will even tell you where you can find a better torrent. Also if you download enough of the same stuff I torrent, you’ll find SomaHeir in most of the comment sections lol.
#i’m not somaheir i just think it’s funny they pop up in the comments of nearly everything i download#i actually typed a lot more than i thought i would so that first paragraph is kind of stupid

so hey, question! i've been wanting to start learning how torrent(ing?) works so i can take screenshots and make gifs easier (i miss making precure gifs so bad), but i have genuinely no idea how any of that kinda stuff works. would you maybe have a guide or explanation thingy that i could check out? i think i maybe remember seeing you post one a while ago but i can not find it for the life of me. i'm planning on getting stuff from nyaa.si if that helps?
sorry if this is a weird question and dont feel obligated to answer if you don't wanna! <3
Hello @wazzuppy!
Here is my guide on piracy in general. It includes links on guides on how to torrent, VPNs to use, sites to use, etc, so I think you're set!
I will narrow things down and make it more specific for you though:
Here is the guide on torrenting (the act of torrenting itself is easy btw, literally all you have to do is click a button and it pretty much does the work itself lol. It's getting the right VPN, finding torrent sites, avoiding bad torrents [which won't be an problem on Nyaa or other legit sites] that's the issue)
For VPNs, if you plan on using a VPN exclusively for torrenting I recommend going with Mullvad. Mullvad is not going to let you stream from other countries on Netflix or whatever, and it's so strong that I can't even use Airdrop on my Mac when it's active. However, it's by far the most secure VPN for torrenting you can use. DO NOT use highly advertised VPNs like NordVPN; I used Nord and I got busted by my ISP multiple times even though I had it active. Stuff like NordVPN and SurfShark is fine for doing stuff like streaming Netflix, but for torrenting, you really need a VPN that's exclusively dedicated to protecting you from your ISP finding out what you're doing. Another VPN that is recommended is AirVPN, which still uses port-forwarding (I don't really know what that means but a lot of heavy-duty torrent users find it important).
For the torrent client itself, I recommend qBittorrent. It's an excellent torrent client, especially for beginners thanks to its user-friendly interface.
Also, just a note, Mullvad will be $5 a month (AirVPN has multiple price points depending on how long you want to sign up for) while everything else is free. But you definitely don't want to skimp on a VPN, trust me.
Let me know if you have any other questions! :)

I can NOT get emails.torrent working on transmission for some reason, adding via magnet gets stuck on retrieving metadata and adding the file itself tells me its corrupt. It works just fine on qbittorrent on my laptop but my transmission instance never goes down so I'd much rather seed on that. Any tips for getting this working?
i made the mistake of making it a hybrid v1/v2 torrent which doesn't work with a lot of clients unfortunately :/
