Uncharismatic Fact of the Day

For the giant African snail, size really does matter! When two snails decide to mate, the larger (typically older) snail takes on the role of female and accepts sperm from the smaller snail. If both snails are the same size, they will both exchange sperm. Each one may immediately go on to fertilize their eggs, or store the sperm for up to two years!

I see a lot of definitions of what exactly constitutes a bug, so I want to know what you guys think makes a bug.

So if you think that earthworms are bugs but spiders aren't, you'd click "An above definition + land worms" and then say "insects only" in the tags.

Snail finger puppet by The Puppet Company, bought from the gift shop at London Zoo in December 2023. I re-stitched its eyes to look a little sillier.

Snails and spiders are two most anatomically twisted animals in cartoons I think. Not complainig, cuz i love when art is far from reality. I made a quick comperison (right is Achatina snail, and left is nonspecyfic).

humidity & wet control in snail tank not right so had to last minute urgent change substrate. at 10 pm at night. headache

need ask parent help drill more air holes

isopods bred in tank & hatch new little iso. good news (was worried too little of them wouldn’t want mate). but they tiny. n change substrate mean need sort through entire dirt try find all those tiny things. double headache

tho extreme thankful that they white (magic potions), so easier tell small babies in brown dirt. expensive breed but so worth it (also pretty).

n 2 went missing. maybe died maybe got eaten (??) maybe got carry away when throw away half eaten snail food. either way sad. already have fewer than recommend n now only have 4 left. absolute need get more. sigh

also they keep have aesthetic shell issue (that yellowish rough section that look like new growth except it never get even never get smoothen out) even though have calcium (cuttlefish bone) in tank 24/7. idk why
