45 Facts about Bellatrix Deirdre Shepard

hi there - I've been heavily thinking about my beloved Bellatrix Shepard and felt like she needs more of an introduction and background when compared to my dear Lorelei Ryder, who has a full-blown series that we're halfway through... so, buckle up fuckers. ^.^

Also - this will consist of SFW and NSFW facts about her.

She's a February Pisces (February 22nd, 2154)

She has a younger brother, Sirius Cillian Shepard - who is a May Taurus (May 1st 2158)

She has 11 tattoos - four of which were gang-related to the Reds, to which she eventually had covered up. (the list will be placed below the first 45)

She was born in Galway, Ireland - she's an Irish gal.

Her face-model is based off of a mix between Olivia Wilde/Phoebe Tonkin

6. She is a raging bisexual and isn't afraid to express her interest in men and women.

7. She was known as the "Snake," within the Reds for her literal flexibility and metaphorically when it came to adjusting people's perception of her. (She easily adapts to situations and purposely plays on peoples' opinions of her)

8. She graduated at the top of her class during the N7 program without an official high-school diploma/GED/etc.

9. On the IQ scale, she scored 130 - which is measured as "Moderately-gifted"

10. She experienced substance withdrawals during her time in boot camp - she was a heavy user of marijuana as a teenager.

11. The only friend who has known her the longest that she keeps in touch with is a woman she met in boot camp - Asahi Nakamura. Asahi knows more about Bellatrix than Anderson, who become a father-like figure for her.

12. Alexander Ryder, father of Lorelei and Magnus Ryder, was appointed as her mentor for the N7 program - to which he stated that Bellatrix would be his first and last mentee.

13. Bellatrix could be described as Chaotic Neutral (at least) while Chaotic Good (at best). Out of all my personal characters, she is the most morally-gray.

14. She’s an alternative music/rocker kind of gal - she’ll listen to Bad Omens, Sleep Token, and Stone Sour. She much prefers earlier music to most of the stuff released during [her] present day.

15. Her parents’ death drastically changed her mental state - she was a fairly happy child, but due to those events, she closed herself off emotionally… especially when it comes to romantic partners.

16. Unknown to the public, she has a sister-in-law (albeit they don’t even know that she has a brother), and that she’s also an aunt.

17. Her niece, Deirdre, was named after her - Deirdre is her middle name. The first person to hold her (except Sirius and Andromeda) was Bellatrix, who was present at the hospital.

18. She was in a romantic relationship with Dr. Harry Carlyle’s younger sister, Evelyn Carlyle. However, this relationship was unknown to many.

19. Bellatrix is more of a cat-person; they’re much smaller and can comfortably lay on her lap while she’s working and some other reasons.

20. Her dream vacation is to visit Japan after hearing about all of the attractions and places that her friend, Asahi, told her about during their time in boot camp.

21. Her pain tolerance is fairly above average; she hardly experienced too much discomfort during her time getting tattooed. The one that hurt the most was her back, but due to how long it was being worked on as well as it being a cover-up.

22. Not many know, but she secretly enjoys reading paper copies or romance/fantasy books. They’re an escape for her from reality.

23. Many think her to be a pessimist, but she’s actually a realist. She’s seen too much shit to be optimistic, but she’s been proven wrong enough times to not be pessimistic…

24. She falls head over heels for Kaidan; he sees right through her facade around the crew and that she has her walls up for reasons, but the fact that he calls her out and still stands beside her is one of the reasons why she falls for him.

25. Kaidan may have fallen for her first, but Bellatrix fell harder - that’s for damn sure.

26. Bellatrix may seem like the worst role-model for children with her attitude, but she raised Sirius and spent time around Lorelei and Magnus Ryder as teenagers; she knows how to deal and work with kids since she had to raise one when she was a pre-teen.

27. Due to her childhood and teenage years, Bellatrix is fairly skilled at styling/cutting hair since she had to do her own and didn’t trust the others within the Reds. She also learned some tips from her friend, Asahi.

28. Out of the entire crew (ME1) and besides Kaidan, she’s closest to Garrus and Liara. (ME2) She is close with Jack, Kasumi, and Thane as well (Unbeknownst to her, Thane developed feelings for her). (ME3) James got to know her well and became good friends before the events since he was assigned to watch over her during house arrest and her relationship is rekindled with Kaidan - she’s good friends with everyone, but the ones listed know her really well.

29. Had she not romanced Kaidan or moved on from him, she likely would have gotten together with Thane since she felt a faint spark with him as time went on. He also saw through her facade, which took her off guard yet in a different approach. (When compared to Kaidan).

30. Bellatrix occasionally drinks, but she has not smoked and/or consumed marijuana since she joined the Systems Alliance - she does not want to take the chance of relapsing.

31. She’s a side-sleeper and unless Kaidan is in bed with her, she’s a light sleeper too. If he’s with her, she’s not a heavy sleeper, but it does take a little bit more to wake her up.

32. She’s a morning person; she’s used to waking up early and getting to work, rather than being a night owl and wasting precious time to sleep.

33. Her mom was murdered by her father, who then killed himself (he did so out of fear/paranoia due to his enormous debt with loan sharks) - she was ten years old while Sirius was only six. They were both coming home from their last day of school.

34. She hated all of the nickname variants of her given name and it was all that was used during her time within the Reds. She hates being called Bella and/or Trixie.

35. The only nickname that she’s open to is one that Kaidan suggests when she wants to be unrecognizable and that is “Ellie,” which she had never been called that before.

36. Bellatrix is open to BDSM - specifically bondage and overstimulation, whether it’s herself or her partner. This goes into overdrive once she’s with Kaidan, who can restrain her with his biotics.

It's that time of year again -- Creek Fest! The tents and booths are all set up, the tractors full of hay and ready to cart you around, and we here in Merrock and at Hideaway Market are ready to welcome in fall the best way that we know how! Big to note: both the Merrock Community College and Merrock School District have decided to close on Thursday (September 26th) and Friday (September 27th) to give families more time to enjoy the event.

All of Hideaway Market is open for the week, with many of the shops and businesses offering specials and sales if you stop in. Some even have refreshments or gifts for the kids! All around the market place, you will find food and drink tents and booths and tents full of local goodies brought out by our own Merrockites. Plenty to eat and drink, and lots of shopping to be done!

For the kids, we recommend checking out the corn pit, participating in the scavenger hunt, getting their faces painted (adults are welcome, too!), jumping in on a game of corn hole, or taking a walk over to The Meadows, where a number of 'sports stations' have been set up for kids and adults alike who want to play.

For the adults (or kids looking to do something more mature), we have plenty of things for you to get involved in. You can paint or carve your own pumpkins, stuff your own scarecrows, make wreaths and flower arrangements, decorate fall themed t-shirts or paint your own ceramics! Lavender Lane has also opened their seasonal operation, where they will be selling mums, pumpkins and various other fall flowers and plants.

The tractor will be available to take people to Harmony Ranch where you can jump into the corn maze or sunflower maze, buy your dairy products and fresh produce, or visit the petting zoo and pony rides! You can also take a tractor to Sunrise Orchard to pick all of the apples that your heart can ever want.

And of course, the name sake of Creek Fest -- Black Creek's walking trails have been freshened up and marked, so you can take a hike with your honey to see the falls, or maybe get your photos taken by one of our local photographers at one of the more scenic spots. We are also selling t-shirts, mugs, bags and more 'souvenir style' gifts at the Historical Society booth, with proceeds going towards the conservation and upkeep of our beautiful creek. If you need help while wandering the grounds, stop by the Community Center tent.

Dear Fellow Creator (Spectre Requisitions 2023)

Hello there. Thank you for checking out this letter. I’m afraid it won’t be too detailed unlike other ones since I’m pretty laidback when it comes to these things. I’m really going to be happy with any gifts. So....here we go! Haha. Everything is below the cut. I put the actual prompts at the bottom and all treats of any kind are welcomed! If you have a question my inbox has anon on and I will tag every responded ask with the Spectre Requisitions 2023 tag.

Likes:

I love angst! It’s my favorite thing. The catharsis that comes out in angst is so good.

Friends to lovers is so good

Characters protecting their loved ones is one of my favorite tropes.

While I want the main focus of these stories to be on the relationships, I really enjoy it when people add in the main character(s) friends and families. After all the characters aren’t without connections outside of romantic.( Vetra and Sidera’s sibling dynamic is so fun. Sara and Scott’s feel as if it could be so complicated too. Grunt is Shepard’s kid! So if you want to throw such things in there, then go ahead.)

Dislikes:

I’m not the biggest fan of enemies/rivals to lovers (when violence is involved. If they were rivals/enemies on a mission and one of them beat the other to the goal, but it never got physical then that’s fine.) Some people do enemies/rivals to lovers well. So it’s not a complete no for me.

No non-con anything please.

Ratings:

I’m good with any ratings. The reason why I didn’t click Explicit is because I’m uninterested in smut. If you want to include graphical depictions of violence that’s fine.

Character Appearances:

For F!Shepard I always just play with default F!Shepard. If you want to use your version of Shepard for one of the prompts then go ahead. 

For the Ryders these are the faces I used for them in my canon run:

The scars they got from an incident when they were kids, where Sara tried to protect Scott’s face, but they both still got burned. As for the tattoos, when they grew up they both got a tattoo where their twin had been injured in their twin’s favorite color. Now they serve as a sign of how close they are. With Sara looking more like their father and Scott looking like their mom. If you want to go with the default appearances for them, that’s fine too. (Yeah I just use all the default names for all three characters too.) Usually I play Sara as the more logical, gets excited about discovering new things, and new tech. She saw their father brush people off so she tries to be patient with others while Scott is more about the adventure itself and upfront about his emotions/opinions.

#1 Ship - Jaal Ama Darav/Vetra Nyx/Female Ryder | Sara and/or David Anderson/Nihlus Kryik

Prompt: I would love anything that includes Ryder and Vetra hanging out with Jaal and his family. Maybe they are sitting at a meal with everyone, awkwardly or no. Or perhaps they're learning more about angaran culture. It could even include Scott and Sidera tagging along. Really anything is fine.

I love the idea that Nihlus disagreed with the unfairness Saren treated Anderson's chance of becoming a spectre with. Maybe he was on the mission two and treated Anderson with kindness, and understood how determined he was. Or perhaps after becoming a spectre in his own right, Nihlus reaches out to Anderson. He could have just wanted to meet the human who almost changed history, or to work with him and give humanity another chance.

Or the two of them could just be sitting in a bar having a drink (young or as themselves after death.)

#2 Ship - Evfra de Tershaav/Tiran Kandros or Bain Massani/Female Ryder|Sara/Reyes Vidal

Prompt:  Evfra and Tiran both have difficult jobs. I feel like that is something they would bond over. However I think the amount of reluctance Tiran has involving everything about his job would annoy Evfra. I would love something about the two of them arguing about that, before eventually making up. (Or not if you'd prefer an angsty break up end.)

I would also be down for something that shows Ryder being considered as an upstanding person due to her being the pathfinder that has done so many wonderful things. Then cue Reyes and Bain hanging around her intimidating others.

This could be an art prompt where the two of them stand behind her, scaring people as she smiles at them.

If you do writing I would love to see a story where people question why she hangs out with those two, and from Ryder's point of view they are very loving and have good sides to them that others don't see because they don't look for the good.

#3 Ship - Cora Harper/Liam Kosta or Cora Harper/Liam Kosta/Female Ryder | Sara

Prompt: Anything that involves Liam and Cora hanging out when everyone else is preoccupied.

Examples (You don't have to do these exact scenarios): Liam getting Cora to laugh as Ryder is stuck dealing with the politics of the station, or the two of them sharing ammo/a snack in the middle of a firefight.

Life keeps the pathfinder team busy, but Cora, Ryder, and Liam still manage to find moment to spend as just them.

#4 Ship - Female Shepard/Urdnot Wrex/Garrus Vakarian or Kirrahe & Thane Krios

Prompt: These three doing what they do best, fighting. Maybe it's a playful match between the three of them, or a team match between the three of them against another team. Perhaps krogans have regular wrestling matches that Wrex takes the two of them to, and they inevitably join in.

#5 Ship -  Tiran Kandros/Avitus Rix or Kaetus/Avitus Rix

Prompt: Anything showing these two getting to know each other over time, and confiding in each other before ending up together would be great. I love how they both didn't want the jobs they end up having, because there were people they knew who were supposed to be there instead.

Kaetus is a skilled individual. It would be a tragedy to waste his skills, Ryder insisted. Eventually convincing Reyes. However Kaetus can't be entirely trusted after Sloane's death so they hand him over to Avitus.

Maybe they bond over both having lost loved ones recently, or something.

#6 Ship - Tiran Kandros/Vetra Nyx/Female Ryder | Sara or Alec Ryder/Ellen Ryder

Prompt: I like the idea of the three of them having a date night to get away from work. It's interrupted as they each keep getting calls, emails, and messages about work stuff (and friends and family interrupting too if ya want to throw that in there). Maybe they have to keep each other off their tech so they can enjoy the night off.

Ellen tries to talk to Alec about how distant he is with their children. It turns into an argument, and Ellen fears that the twins will never know their father.

#7 Ship - Tiran Kandros/Female Ryder | Sara or Kaetus/Sloane Kelly

Prompt: Tiran and Ryder hiding out from work together, or the two of them making fun of their co-workers as they vent about the latest problem, fight, or ridiculous request.

OR

Scott has grown close to Tiran since he could start working again. He's been inviting him more often to the ship, under the guise of wanting to hang out. However he knows that Sara has a crush on Tiran, so he makes sure they talk at least once everytime TIran comes aboard.

#8 Ship - Nyreen Kandros/Vetra Nyx or Kolyat Krios & Thane Krios

Prompt: Vetra can get her hands on anything she wants. Nyreen heard of the skilled turian living outside of turian culture, and hires her. Mostly out of curiosity, and in the hopes that her skills turn out to be true. She never expected to find a kindred spirit. How will it turn out?

Nyreen and Vetra on a job together.

Vetra and Sara end up trapped on a new planet together. The two try to survive as they await a rescue. (Bonus points if Vetra is stressed because she doesn't know this planet or how to get anything they'll need to survive.)

Creek Fest is here! It's bigger and better than ever this year, with tons of fun, fall-related things to see and do in the Hideaway Market!

Firstly, don't miss out on the various shop fronts and tents and booths that are set up in the shopping centers of Hideaway Market. In the center of the Market, you can find several food and drink tents, as well as face painting and games set up for the kids -- such as corn hole, the corn pit, a scavenger hunt and much more! There is also a stage set up for live performances (click here)!

There is a 'DIY Station' in the middle of Hideaway Market's center, where you will be able to paint and carve pumpkins, stuff your own scarecrows, make wreaths and floral arrangements, and much more for all of your fall décor needs.

Transportation in the form of hay rides is available to take you to the following places:

Harmony Ranch -- where you can participate in the corn maze (and sunflower maze!) and buy a few good dairy products, as well as end of season farmer's market goodies. petting zoo & pony rides set up, as well (for anyone from kid aged to adults).

Lavender Lane -- grab all the pumpkins, mums and fall flowers that you might need for your decorating seasons! gift cards are available for those who want to pick up at a later time, too.

Black Creek -- visit the creek for staged photos and a nature walk along the trail to enjoy one of our favorite features of Merrock, guided by park rangers.

Sunrise Orchard -- a quick trip to the orchard to grab a ton of apples, so you can make some delicious apple pie!

The Festival will be open from 10AM until 8PM EST every night, so there's plenty of time to get out and enjoy everything that you want to enjoy. Have fun! xx

SPRING BREAK: SOUTH PADRE ISLAND TEXAS

Time to get out of the frigid weather and have some warm rays and Spring fun and this year, Lima Heights is giving an all expenses paid trip to South Padre Island, Texas! The following information on this post will give times, places and the itinerary of the trip which will occur April 24th-29th. Since we will be out of state, we expect you to be on your best behavior and represent the school appropriately. 

AS A SPECIAL BONUS: We will be offering 50 points for doing any kind of scene during this trip. The catch? The scene MUST involve Water. Don’t care how, don’t care why, but it must incorporate water in some predominant way (this does not mean leave a glass of water by the night stand, it must play some sort of role in the scene). 

(Everything on this post other than under the OOC heading is IC and public information)

Rules:

All school rules are still in effect - use titles, be appropriate, etc.

Curfew: Everyone must be in their assigned rooms between the hours of 12am-6am.

No one can leave the hotel unaccompanied. Escort rules at the school apply on this trip. 1 Dom-2 subs/switches, 1 switch-1 switch/sub.

No one can leave the town unless on an excursion listed on the itinerary.

No drugs of any kind.

Alcohol is only allowed for those of age and any ridiculous drunken shenanigans will be met with firm consequences. 

Planned excursions are mandatory attendance.

We will be staying at Pearl South Padre Resort where 2 bedroom condos are booked. Each suite has two rooms, private bathroom, kitchenette with mini fridge and microwave, a king size bed, 2 queens and a pullout sofa in a living room with a balcony over the beach. The hotel has the following amenities: water activities (swimming, volleyball, parasailing, jet ski and paddleboat rental), spa, restaurants, fitness center, pools, hot tubs, swim up bar and horseback riding on beach. Alright, hopefully this is pretty self explanatory, but if there are any questions, please let us know. Here’s a few key things: 

As always, any Triggering plots or plots that will affect a large amount of people MUST be talked about and approved by the admins. 

There will be guards and staff EVERYWHERE as supervision, so keep in mind most anything you do can potentially be seen/heard etc. 

If your character is going to break the rules, please be reasonable and understand there will be consequences.

Don’t break the game. 

For the Water scene, have it played out by end of the day on the 29th. For this one only, we’ll accept WELL DEVELOPED head canons as well as full paras. Please do not give us four sentences. If I feel the HC is too weak (like I don’t have a good idea of what the scene was or how the characters were affected or reacted) I will not count it. I’m being nice because this scene is during a fun in-play thing, but please understand the point is for development and being creative.

Holà party animals,

it has been slightly quiet on the locker notes front this week but worry not! We have sent out our flying monkeys to get you the deeds!

Written on the boys bathroom wall in black sharpie we found this gem of poetic artistry:  "Kurt and Sebastian kissing in a tree, next to Johnny and Mercedes who are fucking. And on her knees for all to see Jackson getting head from little Lottie.

Well, I don’t know about you guys but I’m not sure if we should feel offended that I didn’t see this orgy with my own eyes or feel pity for them because doing all that on a tree doesn’t sound particularly fun in hindsight. One word: splinters.

What is there to say about Kurt and Sebastian? They’re basically dating at this point and are sure in for the race for the prom crown. Sebastian sure wouldn’t mind wearing a dress.

Same goes for Mercedes and Johnny. Dare I say double date with the above couple? Kurt can help them all color scheme their outfits and share a limo as well as a bed later.

Our mama to be, Charlotte Atwood, sure gets around lately and rivals our dear Marley. And let me just say she’s got good taste.Was she any good, though? I encourage Jackson Hammond and the baby daddy to come forward and give us a 1-10 rating.  

Last Friday our cuddle blanket carrying Mainstreamer, Ryder Lynn, went through with slushying that week’s target, Mason McCarthy. We could all see his heart wasn’t behind it, even though McCarthy supposedly cried like a baby after he was hit. He might need a nickname revamp.

Or not?  After that he was seen tinkering away on Ryder’s car with fellow Outcast Blaine Anderson. Let’s hope they didn’t mess anything up that would get poor Ryder killed or ruins the engine completely when he sits behind the wheel again. Neither of them have any real experience with cars judging from the mess they left behind. Guys, a car is not furniture from Ikea. It matters when a bolt is missing. 

Let’s continue with Kurt Hummel’s birthday bash last Saturday. Well thought out party as we are used from our cheerio Captain - he looked fabulously gay as always by the way and so did Sam Evans - but let’s say that messages are not only sent via paper notes and iMessage, dudes and dudettes. What this means, you ask? Well. The absence of other parts of McKinley’s elite, most importantly ninety percent of the ever party loving football team, was painfully obvious. And what is a cheerio party without the team they cheer for? 

Nonetheless, the people had a good time. I sure did too. Expensive booze fixed that little mishap at least for the evening. We suspect the absence was a reaction of Hummel’s lack of class as he went against one of his very own for everyone to witness, our dear Mercedes Jones, whose birthday was coincidentally Saturday as well. Now we are all one for a good fight between two equal bitches but the Mainstreamers were apparently not as amused. Even Tracksuit Queen Sylvester is not down with those shenanigans on her squad.  Party Poopers.

Maybe the pictures of Hummel’s face photoshopped onto a small dick that could be found taped to every locker this morning were her belated birthday gift for him? Burt then again, she probably wouldn’t say he’s so far up his own ass every day that his breath smells like roadkill”. Personally, we don’t care who it was and we’ll frame one of those and hang them next to the teacher's pictures to see how long it takes until they notice they have another dick among them. And give Figgin’s another aneurysm.

What, if anything, did Gemma think of Eliza Shepard? Did it change at all as the years went by and the news reports got more confusing, did she ever believe what the Alliance had to say about her? How would that change if they'd ever met and, if you are so inclined, what would Eliza think of Gemma?

Hoo, boy, here we go. :D 

Alec Ryder knew Eliza Shepard fairly well professionally; he met her shortly before Akuze, and advised against the disastrous meet-up with her birth parents, but they didn’t get along well. He respected her a great deal – she’s driven, talented, charismatic in her cold way, and an excellent leader – but he also feels that she had a leg up on a lot of other officer and ICT candidates because of her connections to David Anderson and Steven Hackett, both of whom were close friends (and, in one case, a former lover) of Hannah Shepard. Her work speaks for itself, but there’s something about her he just can’t stand. 

His opinion of her is not improved when she returns to active duty and starts ICT. She’s angry – betrayed, vicious, almost ruthless – and as an advisor to the N7 program, Alec thinks she should have been screened more effectively before an invitation was extended to her. He has no complaints about her work, but he doesn’t think she belongs in the Alliance. 

(For the record, Alec also argues against her particular N6 assignment, which he feels will shatter her even more. He’s completely right.)

Then there’s the matter of her becoming a Spectre, something he sees as yet another gift (granted, he’s bitter as hell for what’s happened in his career), and by the time Eliza Shepard is off fighting Sovereign, his bitterness and dislike for her has filtered down to his kids. 

Gemma only met Eliza once, when Scott joined ICT and Eliza was getting her N7 designation, and she did her best to be polite and kind while still being loyal to her dad, but Eliza was so mentally fucked at that point that she barely registered Gemma’s existence. Gemma was hurt, Scott was furious, and that was the end of any potential friendship. 

The Ryders don’t believe the crap that Sovereign was just a geth ship, but they don’t really speak up about it, because they’re busy with the Initiative, and because they have no interest in supporting someone like Eliza Shepard. 

Then Eliza died, and Gemma forgot about her completely.

If Eliza had been slightly more with it when she met Gemma, she would have been impressed by Gemma’s physical presence, and probably warmed up to her over time, but she wouldn’t have trusted her. Someone that nice, all the time, must have an agenda. The fact that Gemma would just want to be friendly, no ulterior motive involved, would never have crossed Eliza’s mind.

[Delivered to Ryder’s door, by a postman who has been given very specific instructions, are three gifts and a card. The gifts are wrapped in newsprint, with a red-striped accented band of paper around it. White twine and a small recycled construction paper tab hold and label the presents. On the little scalloped tag, there is writing – “To: You From: Me” and if Ryder is to peek underneath, it says, “The you being Ryder Lynn and the me being Blaine Devon Anderson.” The gifts are two books and one vinyl record. When Ryder opens the card, he is sees tiny, hand-cut balloons and a small banner that reads Happy Birthday. The strings are all tied but there are some that are knotted together, such is the curse of anything hand-made involving string.]

Dear Ryder,

Happy birthday! I remember the time when you thought I was younger than you (I still find this a bit of a chuckle) and then we talked about birthdays, goals, life. 

We talked a lot about heavy things like politics, formless things like philosophy. I’m very glad you decided to come to NYADA; it was a pleasure to get to know your brain a little.

As I write this, I think about this one thing, a thing where an anonymous asker on tumblr requested that I do a letter meme, and write a letter to you, in which I did.

That time, I compared you to the ocean, one that holds so much life and power, swirling and great. I still think you are quite oceanic in that nature.

I admire that you have the courage to be who you are, which is one of the first things we talked about during that night sitting out in front of Saltus. 

It was a good night to have made your acquaintance, this is fact. I’m happy to be celebrating your birthday. 

I hope you like the following. The red book is The Book of Beasts, a translation of a twelfth century Latin bestiary by T.H. White. This updated translation shows a slice of historical information, natural sciences, and has knowledge about mythical and exotic beasts of the ancient Greek, Roman, Egyptian civilizations. There are many accounts and illustrations which should provide fun to read and informative. 

Secondly, is Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman! You might have your own copy since our poetry talks had you mention him, but I saw this hardcover version with such nice detailing that I had to get it. Inside, I have marked a poem that I found to be most true to heart. Feel free to indulge in the times you had to read poetry for high school? Are we too young to go into nostalgia like this? Haha!

Lastly is a vinyl record of Passion Pit’s 2012 album, Gossamer. You might already have this too! One of our first conversations was about the band, and this reminds me – I have a special music magic illusion for you. And now to bring down the excitement. It is not ready yet, but when it is, I hope it’s to your taste. 

Happy birthday again, Ryder Lynn. I noticed that 2017 is picking up for you already, and I’m so happy to see that. You deserve it.

[After getting back from his trip with Sam, Ryder encounters a postman who hands him a stack of gifts. Two rectangles that are wider and book-ish, and one larger square that makes him guess it’s a record. “Thanks,” he says, handing over a tip. 

He turns over the tag and finds that Me is actually Blaine. 

Ryder sighs. Blaine really did not understand some things. 

Once he was in his dorm again, Ryder started carefully unwrapping things. He pauses at the first book, The Book of Beasts, so that he can flip through. The illustrations inside were beautiful. Come to think of it, he had seen a copy of this book in Professor Spring’s office. 

After carefully setting aside that book, Ryder opened to find Leaves of Grass. His fingertips brush over the page. Blaine remembered that conversation? He hoped the boy had forgotten Ryder’s terrible poem.  

I CELEBRATE myself; And what I assume you shall assume; For every atom belonging to me, as good belongs to you.

Ryder gingerly closes the cover, putting the book next to him on his bed. When he gets to the last package, he shakes his head as he opens it up to find a Passion Pit album. 

He doesn’t know why he saved the card for last, but when he starts to read it, he’s glad he did. Once it’s read, he just hopes Finn doesn’t ask about his emotions. 

Ryder tucks the card away in his new/old copy of Leaves of Grass. He picks up The Book of Beasts and lays back in bed, opening to the first page.
