Woah, another model released so early after the last one? Yes... but this one took me months instead of weeks ^^;

See, this map was for another TTRPG campaign on a game called Not The End, on which I was the Master instead of a player. I've created this world collectively with the other players, each adding what they wanted to play. The result? A dieselpunk world set on a floating city after an apocalyptic event. I'm so happy how this campaign turned out.

As for why it took me months to complete, even after the campaign's end... the file was too big for my computer to render even a part of it, so I screenshotted the rings separately and edited them on Gimp. Even the fires coming from the reactors are made on Gimp.

With that said and done, this is one of the model I'm incredibly proud of, and I'm starting to think I could do MORE complex models and landscape. Maybe with a few less polygons than usual ^^;

I might upload more models I've created for this campaign in the near future. In the meantime, feel free to ask!

At long last, the first release of GIMP 3.0 is here! This is the end result of seven years of hard work by volunteer developers, designers, artists, and community members (for reference, GIMP 2.10 was first published in 2018 and the initial development version of GIMP 3.0 was released in 2020). With GIMP 3.0 you can do more than ever before, more easily, more quickly!

I use GIMP 2.10 and some layers (or groups) are color coded:

Blue mark: change the color layer to another of your liking.

Orange mark: change the picture by putting another picture in the color marked layer group. (I created a group so you don't have to change the composite mode of your layer upon adding it to your image).

Red mark: change the text.

Green mark: show the layer/layer group or not.

Grey mark: groups with that mark contain customizable elements.

I use guides to be able to align layers easily. You can toggle their display in View > Show Guides.

Feel free to display or not elements in the UI section.

GIMP 3.0?

Hi there! So recently after years of development GIMP 3.0 has been released! That's good news. The bad news is that Animstack doesn't currently work with GIMP 3.0 (and neither do my other GIMP scripts from what I've seen). I'll see what I can do to get them up to date but can't promise anything since I haven't touched that code in years.

Note that installing GIMP 3.0 does not overwrite your GIMP 2.10 installation and you can still use GIMP 2.10 after installing GIMP 3.0. So for now please use GIMP 2.10 if you need to use Animstack for some reason.

I've made a Hello Kitty Island Adventure profile template!

Not 1:1 visual accuracy to the game's profiles, but I think it's good enough.

It's in .xcf format for GIMP 2.10 and later. Not sure how Photoshop-like apps would handle it.

Regardless, I hope to start seeing people using it and setting up their own character profiles! :D

On the 19th of March 2025, I downloaded the latest version of the GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP). I downloaded it through the Microsoft Store.

GIMP is an open source image editing application for Linux, Unix, Mac and Windows. The latest version is 3.0, which was released for stable use on the 16th of March.

GIMP 3.0 has been in development for 7 years since the previous release version which was 2.10. GIMP 3.0 celebrates a major milestone for the software, here are just a few of the notable changes:

A completed GTK3 port of the application and all of the tool sets

Non destructive editing capability

Better painting and drawing tools

Major HiDPI display scaling improvements

Faster performance boost with muti-threading

Better support for PSD (Photoshop) files

A new revamped light and dark theme set

Native 'Wayland' display server protocol support on Linux systems.

Native Microsoft Store app with auto updates

Lots and lots of bug fixes

The update also features the option to merge the title bar and menu bar, which provides a minimalistic header bar style to the user interface on Windows and Linux. (see screenshot below)

The theme and icon set can be easily changed in the settings and feature a brand new set of icons that echo the older style of icons used in older versions of GIMP up to 2.8 (2012).

3.0 also celebrates 30 years since the original version of GIMP was released back in 1995! Its first public release was 1998.

The application features a refreshed logo as part of its release.

I created a quick mock-up of Roger the Ragdoll using the layers panel for each of the graphics.

GIMP got its first point release for 3.0.2, after a week of being available. This version got auto updated on the 25th March.

Underneath is a small project I did involving layers in GIMP. The Beano comic characters included are:

Derek the Sheep by Gary Northfield.

The Numskulls Brainy by Barry Glennard.

Dennis the Menace & Gnasher by Nigel Parkinson.

Colin the Vet by Duncan Scott.

Little Plum by Hunt Emerson.

A gradient effect was added behind the characters.

Each image is shown in the tabs above. I exported the image as a portable network graphic (PNG) afterwards.

This release makes GIMP feel more like a great Photoshop open source alternative. For many users there is still a steep learning curve, however the overall experience feels worth it after 7 years!

Hey everyone, I've created a video that shows how I make a shifting 3D effect animation from my 2D artworks using Gimp!

I'm using Gimp 2.10 on Pop!_OS

Open your image in Gimp.

Create a new layer over the art, color to black, and lower the opacity.

Starting with a dark to medium gray color fill in each element, working from back to front, visualizing the figures in a 3D space. Black is the background, white is closest to the front.

When your gradient map is complete, move the layer underneath the artwork and go to Filters➺ Map➺ Displace.

In Aux Input double click on the gradient map.

I personally prefer to work in Horizonal Displacement only, so I have to click the little chain link icon to the right to “break” the chain and allow only one axis to be displaced.

It doesn’t take a big shift to make an interesting effect, in this video I only move the artwork 2 degrees in each direction.

Here I displace two images total to create a perfectly looping four frame animation. Frame 1 shifts slightly to the left. Frame 2 is the original unedited painting. Frame 3 is shifting slightly to the right. The final frame is just a duplicate of frame 2, to create a perfect loop that goes: 1 2 3 2 … 1 2 3 2 … etc.

Make your animation! You can open all frames in Gimp to export as a GIF. Note that with your animation layers in Gimp, frame 1 is the bottom-most layer, going up from there.

For this video I simply opened the image files with my video editor Kdenlive, shortened each frame to 00:00;05 seconds, and made the loop that way.

Ami's design has been refreshed for My Life as a Teenage Rabbot!

It took me about two days, but I've finished on tweaking Ami's appearance! Again. I wanted to try something new with my backgrounds, so I've done some experimentation with the GMIC plugin for GIMP 2.10, and this is what I got as the end result. To be honest, this is better than me using gradients, and with that said, I'll be updating Kate and Penelope's reference sheets for what? Consistency.

Yes, I kept in the curves she had in previous designs, since some of my friends like that feat of her character design, so I just… kept it that way. I've also tweaked her color palette a bit and made her glasses pink, rather than them being black, due to them blending with her nose. A personal gripe I've had myself, so I had to change the color of her glasses. Up next after reworking Kate and Penelope's backgrounds is redoing the logo for My Life as a Teenage Rabbot, since the original XCF file for the 2nd revision (that being “MLaaT-Rabbot Rev. 2.0.xcf”) for it is sadly lost. So, I'll have to redo it from scratch, sadly.
