I rewatched Fairy Tail episode 322.

Gina is at work but is really suffering to keep a lid on her cervical cancer treatment alongside her work. Her stress levels increase further when her ex boyfriend, Jonathan Fox, returns and she fears that he might know about her illness. She fears having to really open up and face what she is dealing with or - god forbid - receive sympathy from the man and so shuts down.

He's called in because he's acting as prosecuting counsel on a case involving Terry's brother but took the opportunity to call in himself so he could catch up with Gina again. He suggests they have a coffee later. "Who told you?" she asks. He's lost and says he doesn't know what she means and she says she's too busy to play silly games and asks him to leave. Though confused he does as she asks.

He goes to see her later and tells her he really is there for work but if she doesn't want to catch up then he's not going to be shocked or surprised given how she was previously when they were together.

She tells him that she knows he knows so there's no point in hiding it. She says she's got cancer and she's dealing with it and doesn't need sympathy as it's progressing as it should and she only has a few radiotherapy sessions to go. She asks if it was Smithy who told him .

Jonathan gently says he's known all of 20 seconds and it was Gina Gold who told him though he supposes there's nothing that Gina Gold would want from him. She says there is actually - to keep his tea and sympathy far away from her. She didn't need looking after before and she still doesn't. Knowing there's no point fighting with her, Jonathan does what she says she wants and leaves her to it.

Smiffina Episodes - Episode 322

Smithy supports Laura through the bullying of her son at his school, encouraging her repeatedly to attend Hendon to become a fulltime PC rather than just a PCSO.

Gina is clearly feeling ill, having to bollock Laura for a show down in the yard whilst holding her stomach and clutching a tissue with Smithy ever present behind her for support.

Smithy tries to get her to go home again but also points out he doesn't think she's being honest with him about how rough she actually is feeling as she keeps insisting everything is okay. "Well I could go into detail about the mouth ulcers, the cystitis, the way my stomach feels like it's on a constant diet of vindaloo but I don't think you want to hear that...!" and she cuts him off from continuing by walking off.

Gina hides herself in her office for the rest of the shift - only for a visitor to drop by. Jonathan Fox! He's visiting to tell her that he is the prosecuting council in the trial of Terry's brother. She tells him she's absolutely fine and doesn't mention anything about her cancer, however he then invites her out for a coffee so they can catch up. She immediatley assumes that he knows and asks who told him. When he remains confused she insists she doesn't have time for the silly games and essentially throws him out her office.

Laura finds Smithy and tells him that everything with her son has made her realise that she does want to go to Hendon after all. Smithy is chuffed and tells the gathered officers that the school have requested two beat officers as a result of the bullying/drugs issues. Roger chuckles and asks if "they'll need to supply their own short trousers or if they'll be issued with them." and Smithy grins and tells Roger he will just need his uniform - as he and Dan have been posted there until further notice. Roger doesn't find it as funny as everyone else, following Smithy shouting "Sarge? Sarge?!" to try make him change his mind.

Gabriel and Sheelagh dance arund each other again and Sheelagh tells Gabriel that whatever he's done it can't be as bad as he thinks. Which tbf, given she's already dated one PC who turned out to be a (multi) officer murderer and had his baby... she has a point! She's clearly after starting a collection. She tries to get him to open up and he keeps refusing, saying she can't trust him when he can't trust himself, he's done things he can never tell another person etc. She tells him she'll understand whatever he tells her. "I wouldn't expect you to understand.... you've never killed anyone." he says before walking off.

Jonathan visits Gina's office at the end of the day and tells her again that he is only in the station for work and he's utterly confused when she says that she knows he knows and asks him to stop pretending, letting it drop naturally into the conversation. "Who told you? Smithy?" she asks. "I've known about 20 seconds." Jonathan says sagely. "Gina Gold told me." Gina swallows hard but then the barriers quickly go back up, telling him she doesn't need tea and sympathy and she's never needed looking after in the past so she doesn't need it now.

Okay! I saw it! Let's talk about it!

AHHHH! It was so good! It was ALMOST everything I wanted. There were a couple moments I felt like Bones was trying to minimize the gravity of this apology. Specifically, the lack of transition of Izuku's eyes.

When Katsuki first confronts Izuku, and starts at the beginning of their story (them being shown as young children) Izuku's eyes are completely void.

As Izuku begins to realize what's happening (when they reach their middle school timeline) we see his eyes coming back.

By their high school timeline he looks stunned and his eyes are lightening and becoming wider.

As he hears his name, his eyes have come back entirely.

By the end, his eyes are clear, present, his pupils are blown wide and light has finally returned them.

In the manga Horikoshi very intentionally shows Izuku's eyes becoming lighter and more present with every line that Katsuki says. Almost as if, Katsuki is slowly bringing Izuku back to life. Bones opted to leave those details out and that super sucks. This scene is so beautiful and powerful because even though it is BAKUGO'S moment, it's HIS apology that he's been agonizing over for months, it's still equally about both of them. It's still their give and take. It's so /them/ meeting each other where they're at, no matter what, and filling a role for each other that no one else could possibly fill. And by removing Izuku's part in that, you miss the full impact.

BUT it would be wrong of me not to acknowledge all the wonderful things Bones DID do in the episode. The rest of the animation was genuinely stunning. And Okamoto did an amazing job of bringing Katsuki's words to life. He made him so soft and I will forever be grateful for his portrayal. At first I was a bit upset he didn't do the pause indicated in the manga before saying Izuku's name but honestly...I like the change. I like that Katsuki says "Izuku" so confidently and without reserve. Because he knows he can. And he knows Izuku will accept it despite the fact that he probably shouldn't. It was a very nice change.

I loved that we got more shojo glow throughout, I also loved how they handled Katsuki's catch scene and Izuku finally feeling safe enough to sleep. That wasn't in the manga people! The catch was, yes, but NOT the panning in on Izuku's face as he relaxes into Katsuki's arms and falling asleep! That was a nice bonus touch that [not completely] helps balance out the loss of the eyes animation.

Overall, the handling of chapter 322 was done with a care I can appreciate. I can't wait to see how they handle our boys next big scene. 💚🧡

I'm not sure if one or both of the amoks got destroyed there or if they both survived because I don't know if Gabriel was wearing one or what happened to Emilie (she may just be underwater) or what happened to the mansion, so I didn't want to make that claim when it is ambiguous. It's a good point, though, as that is an obvious question to ask in a situation where most of the world was destroyed.

We can say for sure that it's not with Felix as that happens in episode is 323 and Chat Blanc was 322.

This does raise another question, though: what would happen if only one of the amoks got destroyed? Would Adrien still dissolve into purple nothingness or would he lose half of himself somehow or would it just not matter?

Idk, everything about the dual amoks is weird and it really does feel like they didn't think that one through. I'm still on team "the rings meant something else in season three and they retconned them into amoks in season four because they'd already established them as important."

Personally, I would have made the amok Emilie's broach:

That makes way more sense than the wedding rings unless the Agrestes were just never planning to give their son his amoks because why make two? Did they planned for Adrien's eventual spouse to have partial control of him? Was that why Kagami was made? To protect Adrien and keep him in line? If so, you think that she'd have been trained for that. Or maybe Emilie never thought further than having a baby and that's why Adrien has no hopes, dreams, or ambitions? (A plot line that I'd LOVE for a real kid, but that just makes me go "so he's less than a human?" in this show where all the normal humans have those things.)

It's just really, really dumb, weak lore that doesn't hold up to the slightest scrutiny.
