Queen Camilla's Consort Crown

It has been announced that Queen Camilla will wear Queen Mary's Crown for the coronation on May 6th. I was expecting her to wear Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother's Crown so this was a surprise.

The crown was made by Garrard in 1911 using brilliant and rose cut diamonds set in silver and gold. You can see in the picture at the top that the three largest diamonds have been replaced with rock crystal/quartz replicas. The original diamonds were removed so that they could be worn in other jewelry which is normal for British consort crowns.

For Queen Camilla the Cullinan III and IV are being put back in the crown but not the Koh-i-Noor. I let you read about the Koh-i-Noor diamond on your own. I think this is a very smart choice and it's not the first time the center of this crown has been set with another diamond.

For the coronation of King George VI in 1937, Queen Mary wore the the crown without the arches or the cap and with the Cullinan V in the center since the Koh-i-Noor was being used in Queen Elizabeth's crown. These are the clearest photos I could find but you can see that the whole brooch is used because the diamond does not take up the full space of the center cross and there are smaller diamonds on the sides. I'm not sure which stone she is wearing in the center of the band since she's wearing the Cullinan IV as a brooch. Edit: @gloriouszipperskeletonshoe has the answer. They temporarily put one of the diamonds from Queen Victoria's Regal Circlet in the band. The Regal Circlet was being dismantled anyway so the diamonds could be used in Queen Elizabeth's crown.

The eight arches are detachable and only four of them will be used this time. I'm guessing it's so that the crown is more in line with St. Edward's Crown and the Imperial State Crown which both only have four. All of the changes being made are options already available for the crown, it just hasn't been worn in this exact configuration before.

Above are the crowns of Queen Alexandra, Queen Elizabeth, and Queen Mary. The only usable options are Elizabeth's and Mary's because all previous consort crowns (Mary of Modena, Adelaide, and Alexandra) have had all of the gemstones removed and some of them have been reset with rock crystal or glass stones. The last four queens consort have had new crowns made for them and this is the first time a consort crown has been reused since 1727. The Crown Jewels by Anna Keay is the best book on the subject if you are interested.

My middle name is the same as my grandmother’s but my first name isn’t really after someone… my aunt came up with my twin sister’s name and my parents wanted our names to have all the same letters so my name has the letters K-i-a-r-a (same amount of each) but scrambled in a different order

2) When was the last time you cried?

Night before last I was listening to nostalgic music and getting all sad about my missing my childhood and blah blah blah haha

3) Do you have kids?

Lol nope

4) What sports do you play/have you played?

I did gymnastics and dance for some time then also cross county right before covid but then I stopped

5) Do you use sarcasm?

Occasionally, usually in a joking way with friends

6) What’s the first thing you notice about people?

If they seem friendly enough or not for me to approach/be near them probably. Then race, clothes, hair color, eye color, piercings/tattoos, etc

7) What’s your eye colour?

Brown

8) Scary movies or happy endings?

I don’t need a goody goody happily ever after ending, I just don’t want to feel broken with nothing good left over in the end :,)

9) Any talents?

I’m above average in some things but I can’t think of anything cool enough to give me bragging rights haha

Reading (I’m rly trying with Harry Potter and Unravel Me rn I swear :), editing (royals ofc), complaining

No, I wish :( My parents both grew up with a ton of pets but the most I’ve had was beta fish

5’0 1/4 (shut up I know I’m short ok 😭)

14) Favorite subject in school?

Well usually my favorite class would be the one most of my friends are in or where I do the least amount of work but I really do love my psychology teacher despite the work. Psychology really interests me a lot and she was my AP Human Geography teacher last year which is great. I do also fancy some literature and history every once in a while but too much gives me a headache.

15) Dream job?

I’ve kind of explained here that I would love to be a librarian and I really do want to get into reading more but the most realistic thing right now that I want is to be an emergency room nurse because I used to watch clips of Untold Stories of the ER and Sex Sent Me to the ER and Bondi Beach and other shows that made me really want to be in the medical field. I’m even saving Grey’s Anatomy for when I’m in nursing school for motivation :)

What jewelry and accessories do you think would suit this colorful gown? Somehow I feel pearls aren't the ideal choice with it. Maybe some gold jewels with sparkling diamonds?

The colors in this gown are stunning. I feel like the shoulder as is might be a bit much for Kate, but after the green Jenny Packham she wore in Jamaica, I could be wrong. I'd love to see dark blue gems with this - sapphire or tanzanite. I wouldn't choose anything too big though because the shoulder is definitely the star of this show.

If she gets on, I'd love to hear what @gloriouszipperskeletonshoe has to say.

“I’ll bet the titles will go...I would be surprised at this point if they don’t.” The issue is this: will it bother the family more if H&MM are out there operating as Mountbatten-Windsor, or as the Duke & Duchess of Sussex? There are 25+ Dukes and Duchesses in the land after all.

So maybe @gloriouszipperskeletonshoe can help with this one but I think that if the Sussex title is revoked they would be known as Prince Henry and Princess Henry of Wales. I might be wrong though.

According to https://www.royal.uk/royal-family-name the surname is Mountbatten-Windsor. I think it would bother PP more if they used Mountbatten. 

The new charity leaves out Mountbatten (Markle Windsor Foundation - MWX) which shows that H&M are once again trying to cash in on the WINDSOR name. I’ll bet this bothers the family considerably, makes me also wonder if the BRF gave approval for this name?

The Duchess of Cambridge at a Swedish Event (as requested by @gloriouszipperskeletonshoe​)

I decided to go with a Swedish wedding because we get tiaras but don’t have to worry about the orders.

I chose a gown by Andrea and Leo that I included in my “Pieces for Kate’s Wardrobe” series quite awhile ago.

I went with the Lotus Flower Tiara mostly because I’m bored with Queen Mary’s Lovers Knot but also because it is predominately diamonds. Kate has never done a partial updo with a tiara before, but I’d really like to see one with this gown.

For other jewelry, I chose the queen’s diamond pendant earrings and quatrefoil bracelet. Kate has these shoes and this clutch, both by Prada, that match perfectly. 

Overall, I wanted to keep this look pretty low-key so as not to outshine the bride, which seems to be important to Kate.

I’ll have a look for Crown Princess Victoria later this evening.

Crown Princess Victoria at a Swedish Event (as requested by @gloriouszipperskeletonshoe)

Victoria is attending the same wedding as Kate.

Victoria has worn Jenny Packham multiple times in the past, so I chose this Packham gown. I feel like it fits her aesthetic really well.

I went with the Aquamarine Kokoshnik Tiara with this updo that is a little different from Victoria’s typical updos. For other jewelry I went with the Swedish aquamarine chandelier earrings and a new necklace and bracelet from Angara. For shoes, I wanted to match the dress, so I chose her pink Dior pumps. I decided to match the jewels with the clutch, so I chose this Bottega Veneta one she already owns.

At the BP diplomatic reception in December 2019 Kate was wearing a mysterious ring (she was wearing the black velvet gown with a heart neckline). Many assumed it came from the Royal Vault. Could it possible be Cullinan IX Ring? Or do you think only the Queen can wear it?

Do you have a favourite jewel (be it a brooch or a necklace etc) that the Queen has worn that you really love? I love the emerald and diamond necklace with an emerald drop and a diamond drop. She wears it often. Could you pass the question to gloriouszipperskeletonshoe too? I'd like to know yours and her opinion. Thank you in advance

I would love to answer this question but I don't think I can do it justice! Everything that the Queen wears has so much historical significance behind it, I am intimidated to comment from an aesthetic viewpoint. As for your pick, I believe this is the one you have in mind, the Cambridge and Delhi Durbar Parure? 

As much as I love colored gems, I am not too fond of the sets QEII has. I am more partial to what I have seen on Queen Maxima. But of her necklaces, I like this one, It’s simple and elegant, I don't like complicated designs. It’s been lent to both Diana and Kate in the past. 

I have never worn a brooch in my life, but I do like this diamond and sapphire one from her collection. The Prince Albert brooch. Again, simple design.

No, gloriouszipperskeltonshoe is right. It’s either The Earl of Spencer of just Earl Spencer. It depends on if you use the “The” or not. When it comes to the men, the “the” is not as significant because there can always only be one Duke, Earl etc at the time. William’s title is for example HRH Prince William, Duke of Cambridge while Kate is Catherine, HRH The Duchess of Cambridge. That’s why “Duchess Kate” is the most incorrect thing I’ve ever seen.
