current standings: On Spotify, Distractible is at #9 and Go! is at #11 in sports. On Apple Podcasts, Distractible is at #142 and Go! is at #99 in sports.
To recap, our goal is for all of those numbers to read #1. The data suggest it's easier to affect the Spotify standings, so if you have an Apple device, focus your efforts there!
Go! has a smaller listener-ship, but the goal is proportionally smaller, so I’m not certain if there’s a marked advantage to focusing on it. Obviously, the recommendation of where to focus will change as we approach the goals.
As for recruiting new listeners, it’s all about target audience: Go! is likely to be less widely appealing than Distractible’s general humor, so when in doubt I’d go with Distractible. I wouldn’t try to hook new listeners on both right now; no need to split their investment.
Here's a list of things we know to affect podcast charts:
Subscribing to the podcast
Downloading the episodes
Actually listening to the episodes
“Adoption rate” - how quickly people check out a new episode. Distractible drops at 12 AM PT / 3 AM ET on Mondays. Go! drops at I think the same time on Thursdays.
Things that might affect podcast charts:
Listening with sound on! Some software knows if you’re just playing something muted for views.
Notifications. Just guessing here.
I found a “Save Episode” feature on Apple; no idea what that does, but by god did I save those episodes.
So, set up your computers/phones/friend’s tablets/parent’s smart TVs/WHATEVER up to play that shit on loop on very low volume overnight. Any device with spare drive storage? Download that shit. Any account you can get your grubby little hands on the password for? Slam that whatever-the-equivalent-to-subscribe-is button.
