Riders in Kombat - Parka vs. Mummy - 1

Earth’s Kamen Riders were all leading their respective lives as they saw fit after a year of fighting enemies on a weekly or daily basis, when strange creatures began appearing and attacking indiscriminately.

or Mortal Kombat karakters fight Kamen Riders.

A/N: A self-indulgent idea that sprung from the question of “Who wins in a fight, Raiden, god of Thunder or Kamen Rider Gaim?”

This time its Kamen Rider Ghost vs. Ermac.

Special shoutout to @dangerouscommiesubversive for answering some anons who asked about Mortal Kombat vs Kamen Rider related questions (its my cousin, the other user of this blog).

Takeru was just enjoying the company of his childhood friends and the good people he met inside the Ganma world. He and Aria were simply talking when a disheveled Narita suddenly disrupted the peaceful gathering.

"Takeru, weird monsters are attacking the temple!" Narita exclaimed.

Alain looked at his sister as if asking for permission.

"Go," Aria nodded. "You four need to protect Earth and its people."

"But…"

"I will hold down the fort while you're gone."

"Takeru, let's go."

"Okay, Makoto-niichan."

Indeed, as soon as Takeru and the others exited the Daitenkuu temple, it was surrounded by hordes of monsters. They all had horns and weapons in their hands.

If not for the force field that Takeru regularly puts around the temple, he knew that the temple was going to be overrun.

"What's going on?" Kanon questioned.

"This happened a few hours ago," Akari reported. "These invaders know nothing of the world and communications are still online."

"Has anyone contacted?" Makoto asked.

"Hina-chan has contacted me if we can place Kisaragi-san's school in the temple," Akari informed. "Although the most important people that needed to be safeguarded were Kisaragi-san and his clubmates, considering the information they have, according to Hina-chan's brother."

"Where's Onari and Shibuya?" Takeru questioned.

"Onari accompanied Shibuya when the latter wanted to visit his mom, and it led to them discovering what was happening in the city," Akari sighed. "Shibuya's tending to his mother while Onari went back to the city to check in with Onodera-san, his family, and Narita's family."

"Where is he now?"

"He just arrived with Onodera-san and his family and Narita's family."

"The temple can't handle more people to get evacuated here." Kanon grimly noted.

"As things stand, I think the Gamma world is the safest place for a lot of people." Alain spoke up.

"But we can't place all of them there," Akari shook her head. "We'd be imposing on you."

"I think even the Helheim forest is safer than here…" Takeru trailed off as he saw a few military personnel just got dragged off by a winged creature.

"Oh my god!"

Suddenly a policeman was flying towards them, head first.

"No," Takeru frowned. "Narita, Akari, head to the Gamma world, now!"

"But…"

"Just do it!" Takeru exclaimed. "You need to grab everyone and hurry there, I'm dismissing the force field," He explained. "Makoto-niichan, Alain, prepare to catch."

"I'll escort them." Kanon volunteered before transforming into a rider wearing a pink parka.

"I'll leave them to you, Kanon-chan."

"Leave it to me."

Kanon, Akari, and Narita rushed inside grabbing the civilians and monks of the temple, and hurried to the basement door as Takeru dismissed the force field.

As soon as the force field was dismissed, Makoto caught the flying policeman and hurried him towards the basement so that he can escape as Alain and Takeru fought off the horned monsters that were attempting to invade the temple's grounds.

"Henshin!"

Both Takeru and Alain transformed into Ghost and Necrom respectively as they held off the invading army using any means necessary, all ending in explosions.

Suddenly a mummified humanoid floated onto the temple's grounds and was using the monsters themselves as projectiles towards Takeru and Alain, all of whom were deflected by their respective weapons.

"The emperor will have your souls."

"No one can have Takeru's soul," several parkas emerged from Takeru's belt buckle and covered him as black humanoid figures filled the parka's opening. "His soul is his alone!" The one wearing the red parka stepped forward.

"Musashi."

Takeru stood up as he stood beside the being identified as Musashi.

"You, you fight like us, a being fighting with souls." The mummified being identified their opponent. "However it matters not, We have the might of a million souls."

Takeru was taken aback by the declaration. He not only was shocked by the declaration but also because he'd just seen the vast number of souls within the mummified warrior.

"No…"

"Takeru?" Alain kicked a monster to the temple's walls.

"How- Why?!" Takeru questioned, anguished at what he discovered.

"We are simply a construct by the emperor, a fusion of a million souls who perished in the emperor's wars." Ermac declared. "And you will share their fate."

"I don't think so, Ermac." Takeru growled as all the parkas shed their figures and returned to Takeru's belt.

Ermac threw their monster allies to Takeru before he rushed towards the parka rider and palmed his chest, throwing him to the temple's wall.

"Himiko, lend me your strength, Henshin" Takeru prayed as he transformed and donned the pink parka and began moving gracefully.

Takeru evaded each of Ermac's strikes, by using Himiko's precognitive abilities. He was able to strike the mummified being with his naginata before kicking him outside of the temple grounds.

Unbeknownst to Takeru, a lot of Ermac's allies, particularly those who were used as projectiles, managed to fight Alain to a standstill. As a result some of them had been able to sneak up onto Kamen Rider Ghost and prepared to attack.

"Takeru loo-" Alain was cut off from yelling the full warning as he got overwhelmed by the number of monsters he was fighting.

Takeru, unfortunately, noticed Alain's words too late and wasn't able to guard himself from the incoming swords that were about to strike him.

Luckily, before the swords were able to make contact with Kamen Rider Ghost, the Kamen Rider Specter siblings managed to kick them away from Takeru, sparing him from the attack.

"Thank you, Makoto-niichan, Kanon-chan." Takeru expressed his gratitude.

"It's not like you to be snuck up on, Takeru." Makoto frowned.

"I was fighting someone who has a lot of souls in them," Takeru admitted.

"A lot of souls in them?" Kanon asked.

"It's like the eyecons, only this one had a million souls inside them," Takeru tried his best to explain things about his opponent. "I had just kicked them out of the temple's grounds when those two snuck up on me."

"I see." Makoto nodded. "Then let's clean up."

The four ghost-themed riders made quick work of the remaining monsters before they converged at the center to assess the damage to the temple.

"This is going to take some time to repair and rebuild," Takeru admitted. "I'm just glad that Akari and the others are safe."

"We can always help, Takeru." Alain offered.

"And I thank you fo-whoah!"

Takeru was cut off from expressing his gratitude when he was involuntarily levitated before getting slammed to the walls and to the ground.

"We were wrong to underestimate someone who fights like us," Ermac floated back inside the temple's grounds. "We will not make the same mistake."

"Takeru!" Makoto ran towards his best friend and stood in front of him, donning a fighting stance." "Is this the one?"

"Yeah, they're like an eyecon." Takeru winced as he got up from the ground. "Only thing is that they have a million of souls instead of just one."

"From what I've seen, they don't use the souls inside them to fight like we do." Alain pointed out.

"Let's do this." Kanon nodded.

"Right."

Takeru passed to Kanon Himiko's eyecon as he placed another eyecon into his belt and donned a red parka.

"Musashi"

Kanon was now wearing a pinker parka than the one she was wearing earlier.

"Himiko"

Alain was now wearing a parka with green and white instead of the green-black parka he had earlier.

"Grimm"

Makoto replaced his black and blue parka with a purple one.

"Nobunaga."

All four Riders attacked Ermac simultaneously. Alain used the pens on his shoulders to attack the mummified warrior from afar, all of which were deflected by an invisible force.

Takeru and Makoto rushed towards Ermac with their respective weapons, Ghost's two swords, and Specter's rod, and attacked the construct with a number of strikes and slashes, most of which were dodged or deflected by an invisible force.

Kanon was the only fighter successful in hitting the mummified warrior with her attacks. She was able to use Himiko's precognitive abilities and was able to make her attacks connect to the construct that she knew her enemy would leave unguarded.

"We tire of this charade."

Ermac exclaimed as they released a shockwave, knocking everyone and everything over. They gestured their hands in Alain, Kanon's, and Makoto's direction and telepathically lifted them.

Fearing for the worst, Takeru equipped himself with the golden Driver he had on hand and transformed into a golden version of his suit but with red accents and without a parka.

"Grateful!"

Transforming into Grateful damashii caused the other three riders to lose their parkas leaving them bare, with just their undersuits.

"Houdini!" Takeru immediately summoned Makoto's blue motorcycle from out of nowhere. "Save Makoto-niichan and the others."

"Alright!"

The motorcycle unfurled and used its chains to grab hold of Makoto and the others before he safely deposited them on the ground.

Takeru then summoned Specter's rod and his sword to his person and rushed towards the mummified warrior. He let out a number of attacks, some of them hit his opponent, some missed, but he didn't let up the pressure.

Takeru realized that this construct needed to be dealt with soon, or else something worse than the Gammaizers would wreak havoc on the world.

Ermac was no slouch in a fight either. They easily matched Takeru's pace and managed to defend themselves from the number of physical attacks coming their way. They were wrong to underestimate this young warrior. He also bears the souls of past warriors with him.

Takeru nodded as he noticed that Ermac was near the temple's entrance. He threw his weapons before flying to the air, intending to do his finisher.

"Grateful Omega Drive."

As Takeru descended, he heard a voice.

Takeru soon found himself in a green void, surrounded by a myriad of souls. He took notice of two of them, one had this regal air in them.

The other was a bald shirtless man, who had this power in him.

"Welcome, young warrior," The shirtless man greeted. "I am Kung Lao, I was once a warrior for Earthrealm in order to stop Shao Kahn from invading our realm but after my first victory, I was defeated." The man narrated.

"And I am Jerrod, I was once a king of another realm, that fell under Shao Kahn's invasion." The regal soul added.

"We are afraid that this is no mere invasion, young warrior," Kung Lao stated somberly. "Our realms come from another universe."

"Emperor Shao Kahn grew frustrated that he has been unable to conquer Earthrealm, due to my wife's sacrifice,"

"And our stubbornness." Kung Lao added.

"And Earthrealm's tenacity, he opted to search for other worlds, other universes where he claims he'll have better luck invading."

"Why does he want to conquer?"

"His greed for power, young warrior," Jerrod answered. "He fashions himself as this great ruler who everyone should bow to."

"How did he travel to another universe?" Takeru couldn't help but ask.

"Other universes have made contact with our universe before, young warrior," Jerrod answered. "He sought to replicate those events in which we have made contact with another universe, and he succeeded."

"And without the elder gods in his way, the emperor sought to invade your Earthrealm immediately" Kung Lao supplied.

"The elder gods would not lift a finger, they see this universe outside of their jurisdiction."

"That's…"

Takeru was speechless, he tried to form a response with the knowledge he had discovered, but nothing would come out of his mouth.

"We understand your disgust, young warrior," Jerrod offered. "The elder gods did not lift a finger even as they spelled my queen to do their bidding, kill me, and invade my realm of Edenia."

"The elder gods wouldn't have lifted a finger when they tried to invade my universe's Earthrealm, if not for Raiden, our Earthrealm's defender god." Kung Lao admitted.

"Now let us tell you of our vessel's powers."

Takeru soon found himself, still descending at Ermac but Ermac was able to summon a green-tinted shield, soul energy, from what he had heard from Kung Lao and Jerrod.

Ermac summoned another shockwave from their person and blew Takeru away from them. They then teleported behind Takeru, who was about to be slammed to a wall, and kicked him.

"Takeru!"

Takeru heard Kung Lao's voice, as he flew towards the temple's wall, he risked drawing an eye in the air and seemingly forced it towards the mummified warrior.

A green orb was expelled out of Ermac as a small object fell from the sky and sucked the green orb in.

Takeru hit the wall, prompting him to see a yellow square with a myriad of symbols in the sky.

"Young warrior, are you okay?"

Takeru looked towards the person who rushed to him and he saw Alain, although the King of the Gamma world was dressed differently than his usual green and white ensemble.

Alain was wearing a sleeveless parka that exposed parts of his torso and a red headband that was tied to his forehead.

"Alain-sama?" Kanon asked, also untransformed.

"I'm not Alain-sama, I'm Kung Lao."

"Alain, that's the name of the person you're possessing," Makoto informed, also untransformed. "May we ask where you came from?"

"He's one of the souls Ermac had." Takeru struggled to stand.

"Sit down, Takeru, let me handle the emperor's construct." Kung Lao offered.

"No," Takeru denied the offer. "You just got freed from the prison that was Ermac, I don't know if he has the ability to pull you back in."

"But."

"I was wondering why you haven't used the Mugen Damashii." Makoto voiced out.

"I underestimated the enemy," Takeru admitted. "But no longer."

Takeru re-equipped the belt he had earlier on his person materialized a white trinket on his hand and placed it on his belt.

"Chou Kaigan! Mugen!"

Takeru's whole being transformed into a warrior in white everything. His suit from before turned white as Takeru himself donned a white parka.

As soon as the transformation was done, Kamen Rider Ghost rushed toward Ermac and pelted the mummified warrior with a lot of punches and kicks, some of which were blocked, dodged, or deflected.

Ermac soon kept up with Takeru's pace and was able to trade even blows against the white Rider.

It came to a point where Takeru and Ermac kicked each other's chests, and forced each other backward, undoing the monk's transformation and revealing his bruised and bleeding face and tattered clothes, whereas, Ermac was only knocked down and soon teleported away from where they lied.

Everyone rushed towards Takeru but before they could even ask the monk on how he was, he was raised by a yellow spotlight.

As he flew upwards, he saw a few monsters destroying some property then he saw a certain memory.

Three men were being led to a portal that led to a white castle, which suspiciously looked a lot like the Himeji castle in Osaka. He saw where the three men were being led to and were unceremoniously pushed into cells.

When Takeru came to, he felt that a strong barrier was erected around the temple's grounds, and this included the cemetery. He knew that his father's soul was safe inside the Toucan Boost eyecon, but he couldn't say the same for the other souls.

Takeru shook his head as he got up and noticed that he was inside the temple, surrounded by Akari and the others.

Doctor Hojo, alongside Officer Tomari, was also inside the temple.

"Good, you're awake."

"What did the great eye say?" The old man sage questioned.

"They noticed the new threat, they figured we could make use of the eyecons once more," Takeru reported. "Hence they will be here so that we can make use of the eyecons whenever necessary."

"Just like what you did to Kung Lao's soul, earlier." Alain showed the Kung Lao eyecon he was holding.

"Does Ermac have that ability?" Makoto frowned.

"No, but someone above him in rank does." Takeru closed his eyes. "While I was battling Ermac earlier, I made contact with two of the souls that were trapped inside, Kung Lao and someone named Jerrod." He admitted. "They told me everything about these monsters that are invading our planet and how we need all the help we can get."

"Speaking of help, no one has been able to get a hold of any sentai team," Emu reported. "Not even the most recent teams, the Kiramagers or the DonBrothers, can be contacted."

"That's worrying." Shinnosuke frowned.

"The barrier around the temple is strong, I asked the assistance of the great eye to erect one around the temple, so that it won't breach the Gamma world and we have a base of operations."

"The Kamen Rider Club, alongside Kisaragi, would be evacuated here if that's alright," Shinnosuke asked. "I do not want to know what these invaders are going to use the power of cosmic energy if they get their hands on it."

"It's alright," Takeru nodded. "At the very least the Mugen Damashii is attuned to me and no one else."

Kamen Rider 01:

Favorite Male: Fuwa - One of my favorite Kamen Rider guys. Filled with anger and very determined, but also out here taking energy shots when he's on the brink of bleeding out.

Favorite Female: Izu - When her memories returned in RealXTime we cheered. Just an overall fun character who had a lot of devotion and I just love her.

Favorite Pairing: Horobi & Fuwa - I just really like their dynamic

Least Favorite Character: Tatsumi Arayashiki - He treated Smile so horribly and I think they should've given him worse repercussions for his behavior, like losing his career and his reputation being ruined. Enough with forgiveness, he doesn't deserve it.

Who’s most like me: Aruto - I too like to believe I'm the funniest person in the room

Most attractive: Horobi

Three more characters that I like: Raiden, Jin, and Naki

I'll give three Humagears, that were minor characters, that I liked too: Bengoshi Bingo, Enmusubi Match, and Smile Sumida

Kamen Rider Saber:

Favorite Male: Kento & Storious - I can't choose between them, but I did talk extensively about them in my lb tags. In short, Kento is extremely devoted and is willing to do anything for Touma's sake, but is also just a really sweet guy who likes to play characters and takes his responsibilities quite seriously. Storious is a man who lost his hopes of creating something unique so long ago and harbors so much resentment over it that it festers and grows to consume him. It's really interesting to see it all play out and for him to come to realizations he wasn't privy to before.

Favorite Female: Mei - Is the only one who can get everyone into gear when hope seems lost, and is really the sunshine after a storm.

Favorite Pairing: Kento & Touma - They are very much ride or die for each other. There have been so many instances in which they have done things only for the sake of each other and in some instances that has been risking their lives. They are driven by each other's very existence and keep going for each other. It's an incredible bond that I have so many thoughts on that you can read in my lb tags as well, also here's their tag that I use when I miss them. Shout out to Mei & Rintaro too, bc they're right behind Kento & Touma. Mei is the air he breathes and the light of his life that showed him what it was to live.

Least Favorite Character: Ren - I do like him, but he was the most underdeveloped from the initial group of swordsmen, so if I have to choose it'd probably be him.

Who’s most like me: Touma - I too will say something is done when it is only done in my mind

Most attractive: Kento

@astarrymusenight I apologize for this stupid title; it’s 3am and I’ve laughed myself silly

Netalina bounced to and fro on each other at a rhythmic pace. Once she had grown tired of that, she resorted to running around in small circles. When she stopped to look over at her boyfriend, she was shocking to find him drowsing.

“Gambit! Don’t fall asleep now, rina! Keita isn’t here yet!”

“I’m tired,” Gambit replied groggily, pulling down his scarf. His eyes remained closed and his voice was quiet. Perhaps he had a late night last night.

“God, you sound like Smile!” Netalina piped angrily.

“Maybe I’ll get some coffee or something to wake me up...yaaaawn...does coffee even go well with ice cream?”

“I have no idea, but it sounds awful, rina. At least keep your eyes open when Keita gets here, rina!”

“Alright, alright...no promises, though.” Gambit’s eyes opened very slightly before immediately closing again. It took several attempts just for Gambit to open his eyes fully once, and even after he did, they just ended up closing again. “I’m trying really hard here, I’m sorry.”

“You’re killing me, rina.”

Sibling Rights Round 2 Results:

This round was a bit of a topsy-turvy one, with a technological failure forcing us to restart from scratch--but in the end, it was still just as full of twists as the others! I was shocked by some of the outcomes! Let's see how everyone did!

Sorry, Kamen Rider fans--Seto and Mokuba beat out Hina and Ankh at 68.2% of the votes!

The Thorden siblings put up a good fight, but in the end, the classics won out--Ed and Al beat them at 69%!

Killua and Alluka won over Garry, Ib, and Mary at 68%!

Saki and Tsukasa beat Chris and Claire at 69.6%!

Ram and El were in the lead for most of the round, but today Clover and Snake got their win back at 66.7%!

Violet, Klaus, and Sunny had a much more uneven match, beating out Charlie and Lola at 77.8%!

Velvet and Laphicet had to fight hard, but they won over Freya and Freyr at 68.4%!

This next match was a fascinating one! Mario and Luigi had the contest in the bag--until today, when Beat and Rhyme clawed their way up from defeat to win at 60.7%!

The match between two common childhood favorites marked a turning point in this contest--Phineas and Ferb matched Danny and Jazz at 50% each! A coin toss decided who would move on to the next round, with 2 out of 3 flips landing on 'tails' for Danny and Jazz!

Raiden and Sunny pulled off a miraculous feat--they were at 100% for almost the entirety of the round, until one person entered a vote in Edgar and Sabin's favor just today! Unfortunately, one wasn't nearly enough--Raiden and Sunny won at a stunning 94.7%!

The Ace Attorney match was an unbelievably close one, but at the end, Miles and Franziska beat out Trucy and Apollo by the slimmest of margins at 51.9%!

Madoka and Tatsuya won over Ayano, Tsubomi, Seto, and Shuuya at 60.9%!

It was another close one, but Dipper and Mabel won over Katara and Sokka at 55.6%!

The subway siblings put up a valiant fight and almost won, but Mipha and Sidon triumphed over Ingo and Emmet at 54.5%!

Margo, Edith, and Agnes beat out Phil and Lil at a solid 79.2%!

And finally, Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup won against Huey, Dewey, and Louie at a perfect 75%!

feelings on 01 characters

Aruto & Izu - While these two were fairly cute in their shtick I also felt they were incredibly static, not moving or growing in any significant way throughout the show’s whole run and making any shifts like Ark-One a bit hard to swallow. I’m mostly okay with them but I don’t like that Izu is as a character a woman whose function is to be subservient to a man and that’s treated as good; and I hate like every decision Aruto makes in the last episode. Just in general any moments they have that are meant to be... celebratory? Look How Far We’ve Come? Annoy me because there’s no weight behind them. Overall I think I came out just really disliking Aruto

Fuwa & Naki - the best ever. Literally the best. Straight up Kamen Rider over here

Horobi & Jin - I have absolutely zero clue who these two are supposed to be in the show and like Aruto & Izu they feel way too static despite the show ~saying~ they’ve changed in some way. 01hers made them far more realised and interesting characters however

Thouser - Very enjoyable and hateable (in a good way!) villain during his time as the main villain, then in the last third gets one of the worst Kamen Rider episodes of all time and becomes just very very annoying to watch and have to put up with. Gets worse to watch with every appearance

Ark - not really anything but that’s fine

Raiden - Good! Not super developed or anything but he doesn’t need to be; he has a clear motivation and narrative and he carries himself with a fun, likable personality. Good for what he is

Yaiba - I literally forgot to include her until now which probably tells you a lot. Just a bad character with nothing going for her, has some #Girlboss moments but as is the theme here, it’s so completely unearned and weightless. Like Horobi and Jin she becomes far more interesting and realised in 01hers but i continue to dislike her for how the entire fandom treats her as amazing for no reason

Soreo - pretty cool, story was a little half-baked but i got what they were going for

Eden - lol?

Lyon Arkland - CMON CMON YES AND I WAS RIGHT ABOUT THAT WHEN THE FIVE WEAPONS CROSS THE JET BLACK SOLDIER ZAIA IS BORN I AM THE PRESIDENT CEO DESTRUCTION

Kamen Rider Gaim vs. Raiden... who would win?

Oh wow, ok, what an unexpected and fun question! It's got a simple answer, I think--if we're talking post-show, Gaim wins in a walk. As powerful as Raiden's supposed to be, he takes a lot of losses over the course of the various games, and primarily exists as a means by which a new villain's strength is established ("Holy shit, he took out Raiden," that kind of thing.) Gaim Kiwami Arms, however, is the culmination of Kouta's increases in power, and exists specifically to not lose--they actively have to nerf it in Movie Wars Full Throttle in order to make the villain a believable threat.

So: the win goes to Gaim, and then Kouta and Raiden go to a bar together to look at some drinks.

A/N: A self-indulgent idea that sprung from the question of “Who wins in a fight, Raiden, god of Thunder or Kamen Rider Gaim?”

Special shoutout to @dangerouscommiesubversive for answering some anons who asked about Mortal Kombat vs Kamen Rider related questions (its my cousin, the other user of this blog).

A/N: This chapter is also uploaded to honor the 10th anniversary of Kamen Rider Gaim.

"Kouta-san," Micchy greeted.

"Aquarius boy." Oren greeted as well. "Good thing you're here, Monsieur Walnut and my boy were captured by some creepy old man."

"Zack and Hideyasu were?"

"Along with my older brother," Micchy stated somberly. "They stayed behind to get the people evacuated with the help of other Kamen Riders."

"How could I forget my Melon prince?! They also took my Melon prince."

"I'm afraid they're trying to reach for the forbidden fruit."

"Again?"

"No, this is unlike the Helheim forest invasion, this is different," Kouta shook his head. "Just before Takatora and the others were captured, I heard the man say that they'd like to study the fruits that allowed us to transform."

"I had gleaned on that," Oren nodded. "That's why you're here isn't it?"

"That and to give you this."

Kouta handed a few Helheim fruits to Micchy and Oren, all of which turned into lockseeds for them to use, high-ranking ones at that.

"Vile creature!" Thunder boomed as lightning struck the pavement before the armored Riders. "You dare taint Earthrealm with vile fruits?! That is unforgivable!"

"And what? Just leave them unable to defend themselves from your incursion?!" Koura demanded. "I don't know if you noticed but this isn't your Earthrealm or whatever."

"Aquarius Boy, you can understand English?" Oren raised an eyebrow.

"He's speaking in English?" Kouta turned to the Durian Rider. "All I hear is Japanese."

"Kouta-san, you might have gained the ability to understand any language after everything." Micchy suggested.

"That makes sense," Oren nodded.

"I see you have corrupted those Earthrealmers, I have no choice but to send you to the Netherrealm."

"Henshin!"

"Kiwami Arms!"

"Budou Arms!"

"King Durian Arms!"

All three Riders were able to transform before the lightning that was summoned by the newcomer hit them. As the smoke dissipated, Kouta had a melon-themed shield in front while Oren and Micchy wore armor that shared similarities to that of Kouta's.

"I see there's no hope for the two of you."

"Micchy, Old man, let's do this!"

"Right!"

Bravo and Ryugen surrounded Raiden on two different sides as Gaim stared at the thunder god head-on. A few moments of staring at the man with lightning powers ensued before he charged at the silver-armored man with his staff in hand.

Gaim parried the strike with his saber as an orange-themed sword materialized in his hand and attempted to slash the thunder god with it.

Ryugen pulled the lever on his gun and shot multiple enlarged grapes at his flying opponent, all of which were dodged gracefully in the air.

Bravo followed up the younger man's attack, jumped into the air, and attempted to slash the self-proclaimed thunder god with both of his swords.

Raiden expertly parried the attack and delivered an attack himself, slamming Oren to a nearby car and denting it.

"Oren-san!"

Micchy rushed to the older man's aid, who was groaning in pain.

"Don't worry about me, boy, you need to defeat that man." Oren managed to state.

"No, Micchy, you guard the old man, I will deal with this thunder god person," Kouta ordered. "We can't have the both of you get captured."

"Captured?" Raiden frowned.

"Yosh, from now on, this is my stage!" Kouta declared. "You're going down."

"Let's see you try, vile creature!"

Gaim started by materializing a red mechanical bow that he immediately fired at the thunder god.

Raiden was momentarily stunned at the new weapon the creature materialized that he was hit by the incoming arrow that the peculiar bow summoned. He shook his head as he dodged the subsequent attacks from the said bow and charged at his opponent, this time intending to destroy his opponent.

Raiden fired a bolt of lightning, which was dodged by his enemy, and teleported behind the armored warrior and threw him in the air.

The thunder god punched Kouta's gut and sent him hurtling upwards before he was slammed back down to the ground via the strike Raiden did with the staff.

Kouta immediately stood up and flipped backwards and dodged the coming staff that Raiden threw at him. He materialized a grape-themed gun and fired multiple grapes at the flying opponent, jumped towards the god and slashed him with a banana-themed spear.

As soon as the thunder god was slashed, Gaim immediately grabbed hold of his opponent's collar and faced him to the incoming grape-themed bullets that he had fired earlier before he slammed Raiden to the street.

Raiden teleported behind Kouta and grabbed his opponent by the neck and electrocuted him before throwing the armored warrior upwards.

Kouta managed to get his bearings and materialized a pair of Walnut-themed boxing gloves before they glowed fiery yellow and fired the spikes on his gloves towards his enemy. The gloves caught on fire which Gaim used to punch the thunder god right in the chest, slamming him to a nearby truck.

Raiden teleported away from Gaim and sent a couple of electric balls, which were blocked by a watermelon-themed shield. Kouta knelt and fired the gun that was attached to the shield.

Raiden blocked all the bullets by spinning his staff in front of him; however, this was the distraction Kouta needed.

Gaim jumped in the air and flicked the mini sword on his belt like he had done many times before.

"Kiwami Squash!"

Gaim just kicked Raiden in the chest, sent him flying towards the wall of a crumbling building, and brought the entire building down on him.

Kouta looked towards his fellow Armored Riders.

"Do you know where they're being held?" Kouta undid his transformation before approaching his allies.

"Sadly, no." Oren shook his head.

"I tried following them, but the presence of those sharp-teethed people hindered me," Micchy sighed. "Their bones are their weapons and they can cut through anything, I wanted to risk it, but Oren-san prevented me."

"You're saying, this is like when the Helheim forest was invading Earth?" Oren diverted the topic.

"Notice those yellow lines?"

"Yellow lines?"

"You can't see them?" Kouta pointed at a nearby intact building.

"Must be another one of your abilities, Kouta-san."

"Maybe," Kouta frowned. "We don't have a clue where they're being held and from the looks of things, the longer they're under enemy hands, they have less chances of surviving."

"Kouta-san!" Someone yelled from the air.

"Ghost?" Kouta questioned as a man in white armor landed beside him. "What are you doing here, Takeru?"

"I encountered Haruto-san after I made eye contact with one of those sharp-teethed people. "From the memories I managed to glance on, I saw three people who are connected to you in their memories."

"That must be Takatora, Zack, and Hideyasu!" Kouta exclaimed. "Did you see where they took them?"

"Yeah," Takeru nodded. "Haruto-san is already at the entrance waiting for us." He explained. "It's a portal to Himeji castle in Osaka."

Kouta was in a dilemma. On one hand, he didn't want to leave both Oren and Micchy in the open, vulnerable to the enemies.

On the other hand, he wanted to rescue Takatora, Zack, and Hideyasu as fast as possible. Who knows what that madman was going to do with them, especially when he had heard that old man order one of these monster-like men to capture the armored riders earlier.

"Kami-sama."

"Tomari." Kouta acknowledged.

"Go," The police officer beckoned for the Rider-turned-god to proceed. "Takeru has already informed me. Date and Gotou were tasked to gather Kisaragi and his club mates,"

"They'll be safe with Tomari-san, Kouta-san." Takeru assured.

"What are you waiting for, Aquarius boy?! Go already!"

"We'll be fine, Kouta-san," Micchy assured his friend. "If anything else, I can still fight and defend ourselves."

"If you're sure," Kouta nodded. "Takeru, let's go."

Both Gaim and Ghost rose to the air and flew towards their destination.

"And he can just transform into Gaim immediately." Tomari shook his head. "Takeru forgot to undo his transformation too; Emu's not going to like that."

"Considering circumstances, I think that gamer doctor's going to have to let this slide." Oren offered.

"You're right." Tomari nodded. "Kureshima, help Alfonzo at the back of the car."

As soon as the people in the general area had left, Raiden got up, shrugging away the debris that had fallen on him earlier.

Raiden had been right, this was another situation similar to when Dark Kahn happened. The one he had been fighting earlier was one of those urban legend heroes called Kamen Riders. It was unfortunate that Takeda, alongside everyone he knew on Earthrealm had disappeared.

They mentioned about his friends being captured.

"This bears investigating."

Raiden & Furai were helping look after kids who were going out for trick or treat this Halloween, after that, it'd be off to a party at Furai's Cyclone Rider Cafe, but of course, with Foundation X about, things could only go so smooth when they'd send in some revived Fangire and Ganma to ruin things, hence Raiden fighting them as Kamen Rider Fuse in it's OriginStart form, course, the combined fighting prowess of Ichigo and Kuuga only got him so far. "Too many, I wish Haruki was here."

Zero-one is the perfect start to a new generation

Introduction

Kamen rider Zero-one concluded last week and I believe it to be a very strong first entry into the Reiwa era of Kamen rider. On the surface it's back to basics with a grasshopper themed main character and simple animal motifs for his forms and the other riders while the major motif of the season centers around Artificial intelligence and the concepts of free will,dreams,and empathy.

At first glance you'd have several preconceived notions about the series,but there is FAR more than meets the eye.

Story and themes

Structurally this season of KR is made up of bigger arcs (four in total) which break down into smaller two episode arcs that make up the week to week episodes which allowed the show to maximize the monster of the week formula while the main story progresses at it's own pace (the best way to do KR in my opinion), this pairs well with one of Zero-one's biggest strengths; world building.

Each two episode arc explores the humagears' place in society and they're overall relationship with humans leading to a diverse range of dynamics that get explored over the course of the show with very few stones left unturned.

In general the thesis of the show is built on the beliefs of the humagears' creator Hiden Korenosuke,that humagears will help humanity achieve the their dreams.

At first you can take this literally given humagears can be thought of as "tools" for day to day life when in reality they where meant to grow along with humans (in other words reach singularity) and use their own passions and dreams to elevate those of humans and vice versa,the significance being that humans by nature are empathetic and social beings who have only made it so far as a species due to our ability to care for one another, humagears are meant to help humanity achieve our full potential faster.

The challenges this idea faces is a society that not only wants humagears and humans alike to become nothing more than "beasts of burden" for the upper class but also it's mirror opposite;the potential malice and selfishness that ultimately destroys lives and dreams,all of this being synonymous with the classic fiction trope or A.I. and robots representing the inhumane treatment of the common person.

Characters

While the overall show and it's smaller stories make up the backbone of the show the main characters are the heart, having arcs that represent the exact message the themes of the show are trying to communicate.

Aruto Hiden/Zero-one- Our main character. He has the staple good heart of a main rider with a strong belief in the power of dreams.

His arc is flat in order to inspire the other characters around him and further their own growth while having his own convictions tested the challenges of the show. He's very endearing and seeing how he overcomes every obstacle (even when it's crushing him) is the mark of a good main rider.

Izu-Aruto's humagear partner. It's easy to dismiss Izu's growth but her change is present but subtle. She goes from following Korenosuke's initial directives to making her own decisions,she starts off confused by Aruto's jokes but begins repeating them,and she goes from being Aruto's secretary to being his family. The evolution of her and Aruto's relationship is heartwarming and gives them on the best male/female lead dynamic in the franchise.

Fuwa/Vulcan-He starts as a staunch humagear hating foil to Aruto and a rather typical secondary rider. But after discovering his entire mindset has been "crafted" by those who want to control him his arc blossoms into a great story of a man taking back control of his life and rejecting the false and toxic ideals forced on to him, resulting in arguably the best arc in the show.

Yua/Valkyrie- While her arc can be easy to miss she represents those who unintentionally surrender their personhood to those above them while believing they retain their independence. Despite some lacking screentime she does recognize her worth and atonomy and reclaims her life (not unlike her partner Fuwa) and I hope future female riders follow her example (but with more screentime).

Horobi and Jin- Our two initial villains and the heads of the humagear terrorist cell Metsubojinrai.net.

Horobi begins as a steadfast believer in his "master" the Ark and shares it's beliefs in the extermination of humanity, beliefs he tries to pass to his "son" Jin who has concerns about their violent and forceful methods before becoming indoctrinated.

As the show goes on Jin begins to develop his own beliefs separate from Horobi while Horobi begins to experience a crisis of faith. They're dynamic is unique in KR and their arc is a perfect representation of the kinds of toxic concepts that can be passed down from parent to child but with time can be unlearned.

Gai/Thouser- One of the two major villains in the show. In many ways he's a more serious version of Dan from Ex-aid, his main position in this story being a stand-in for the greedy ruling class who will destroy as many lives as they want so long as they get what they want.

He's genuinely impressive in terms of how well calculated his plan is and absolutely loathsome for the fact he essentially caused everything wrong in the series. His eventual "redemption" is VERY hard to swallow but for food or ill does fit with the shows themes of overcoming our worst aspects and also doesn't bend over backwards to make him sympathetic.

Naki/Raiden-the other two members of Metsubojinrai.net. Wish they had gotten more screentime, especially since Naki seemed like a character that would have been cool to see more of. I do like them still and think it's cool they got their own happy endings.

The final arc

This deserves it's own section. The final arc is one of the most bold and interesting final arcs in the franchise and in my opinion is the best one since Drive.

The asset that really makes this part of the show work is the "final boss" the Ark. Despite seeming like a generic "evil entity" final boss commonly seen in toku the Ark is a methodical and truly evil being.

The Ark represents the darkest parts of human existence, mainly that our compassion/love can be easily turned into malice when the hardships of the world take it's tole on us.

Going deeper the ark's "philosophy" can also be seen as a parallel to those who think humanity is better off destroyed because of humans alleged inherent cruelty,not realizing that not only are humans not inherently cruel but that mindset is at most a trauma based response to the hardships of the world or a hypocritical mindset that give those who think it a free pass to be malicious and hateful while thinking they're "enlightened" for recognizing the alleged folly of man.

The Ark utilizes these concepts in it's final plan when it manipulates Aruto and Horobi take each other to their lowest points by having them kill each other's most treasured person,the duel between the two fueling human/humagear tension to the point of war,and it did this all without being around for most of it.

Aruto is so besides himself with grief that he essentially abandons his dream,I think what stood out to me was Fuwa attempting to stop Aruto and pointing out that Aruto is where he used to be,full of rage and hatred that can only be overcome with someone else showing you genuine empathy, which is what Fuwa is attempting to give to Aruto as a parallel to when Aruto did it for him.

The final battle is not only between Horobi and Aruto but between Malice and empathy. And in the end the two breaking down and recognizing each other's pain with Aruto winning but sparing Horobi is the final "test" of what fully realized empathy is.

Outro

2020 has been rough. I think more than ever we see what's wrong with the world and what we need to do to fix it. Whether it was intentional or not Zero-one was the rider I think we needed right now.

In a society that doesn't value empathy ,unity,or dreams we have to elevate each other and hold on to our passions and dreams for the future.
