Chapter 59: Bad Blood

Persephone smiled, as she checked on her sleeping grandson and then went back downstairs. She kept checking her phone, waiting for an update of what was going on and was thankful when it rang. The caller ID showed that it was David and she answered.

"David…" she answered.

"Snow's missing…" were the first words out of his mouth and she frowned.

"What do you mean?" she asked.

"We were handling this situation and Snow went down to the cafeteria to get us coffee. And then I got this terrible feeling...I can't find her anywhere," he replied frantically. Panic crept up inside her as well.

"All right, as soon as I get someone to come watch Henry, I'll be right there," Persephone said, as she hung up the phone. She didn't have Neal's number and decided Henry would be fine for just a few minutes, so she poofed herself to the Inn and knocked on his door frantically. She heard stumbling around, as he answered it.

"What the hell…" he growled and then he saw it was her. His eyes widened and the rest of his cursing died on his lips.

"I'm sorry to wake you, but Snow is missing. I need you to come back to the loft with me to watch Henry," she stated. He nodded and quickly put his clothes on.

"What do you mean missing?" Neal asked tiredly, as they appeared in Snow's loft.

"David and Emma were dealing with the situation at the hospital. Snow went to get them coffee and now she's missing," Persephone responded, as she grabbed one of Snow's scarves and then poofed a large case onto the table.

"What is that?" Neal asked curiously.

"My store of potions and concoctions," she replied.

"I should have known…" Neal said.

"I know you're not a fan of magic and that's understandable. But a locator potion may be the only way to find my daughter quickly," she replied.

"You do know it's probably why Snow went missing too, right?" he questioned. She stopped for a moment and then looked at him.

"Sorry...that was out of line," he apologized.

"No...you're right. In many ways, my presence in Snow's life might only increase the danger to her. But I assure you that without me, she would also be in danger as well," Persephone said, as she got the potion.

"Thank you for watching Henry," she said. He nodded.

"Of course...I just hope you find her. Emma and David are probably going crazy," he mentioned. She nodded and disappeared in a puff of lavender smoke. They weren't the only ones.

Snow screamed, as they appeared in a dark cavern and she instantly recognized her surroundings. They were beneath the library. Regina used a fireball to give them light, as Snow kneed Hermes between his legs. Even a God was not impervious to this attack and she tore away from him, as she began to run through the cavern. But she suddenly felt her ankles become tied together, thanks to magic and tripped, falling to the ground.

"Regina please...you don't want to do this," Snow cried, as her wrists were then magically bound too. Snow looked at them fearfully, as Hermes dragged her back to the mouth of the cavern.

"Get it over with already," Regina said. Snow's breathing came in ragged gasps and she cried out, as he brandished a knife. He smirked.

"You really think I'm going to kill you, don't you Princess?" he hissed, as he let the cold blade touch the sensitive skin on her neck. She swallowed thickly.

"You aren't?" she squeaked, as she looked to Regina.

"No...there's someone else that wants that honor, as much as both of us would like to," Hermes responded.

"And if I did kill you...I wouldn't be choosing a knife to do it," Regina added, as a fireball appeared in her palm.

"Then what do you want with me?" she questioned, but then she cried out, as he used the blade to slice her palm. She whimpered and struggled, as he let her blood drip into a small vial.

"What are you doing?" Snow questioned.

"Your blood...it will allow Hades passage into this realm," Hermes revealed. Her eyes widened.

"Hades…" she uttered and then looked at her step-mother.

"Why would you help bring Hades here? How could you? Think of Henry," Snow admonished.

"I am thinking of my son, unlike you," Regina hissed.

"Because of your mother, one way or another, Hades is going to find a way here. Her presence here in this town will doom everyone, so I'm doing what I have to in order to protect Henry," she reasoned.

"You really think Hades will see you as some kind of ally if you help him?" Snow questioned. She smirked.

"Oh, I'm under no delusions about how dangerous your step-father is," she mentioned, enjoying twisting that particular knife.

"But yes...in desperate times like these, alliances must be made and let's keep in mind again that none of this would be necessary without your mother's presence here," Regina reminded.

"Fine...you have my blood. Now let me go," Snow demanded. Regina smirked and gently caressed her cheek.

"Oh no...no you don't get off that easily, dear. My mother is dead, because of you," Regina reminded.

"Your mother was evil…" Snow spat and then choked, as Regina wrapped a hand around her neck.

"No...you're the evil one. You told her about Daniel...you're the reason he's dead. You're the reason Persephone killed my mother!" Regina shouted, as tears gathered in her eyes.

"I never meant to hurt you...she preyed on me. I was just a little girl...I'm sorry," Snow pleaded.

"I don't care...you need to pay and now you will with what's coming," Regina said.

"And once Hades has swept away all my enemies for me...then Henry will be mine again. And he'll love me again, because I'll be all he has," Regina said tearfully. Snow shook her head.

"It doesn't have to be this way. If you do the right thing, it will show Henry that you really are trying to change. I know the woman you used to be...the one that saved my life. I know she's still in there. We can be a family again," Snow pleaded.

"Oh, your naivete isn't at all endearing anymore, dear. In fact, it's pathetic. We've had this conversation before and nothing has changed. My biggest regret is still that I wasn't able to kill you. But soon that will be rectified. Perhaps not by my hand...but justice will be done," Regina said, as she waved her hand and the dusty lid of her casket was lifted. Snow's eyes widened, as Hermes grabbed her arm and started to force her into the casket.

"No...please don't do this," Snow begged, as he made her lay down in it and she screamed, as he sealed the dusty coffin lid. Snow sobbed almost uncontrollably and pounded on the coffin lid. It was like being buried alive and like something out of a nightmare.

"There...back where she belongs. In her glass coffin, only she's awake this time to experience the horror," Hermes said deviously.

"Unfortunately, it probably won't take her Prince long to find her. It never does," Regina replied bitterly.

"Well...then let's make him work for it a bit," Hermes suggested, as his staff, the Caduceus, appeared in his hand. He jammed the staff into the ground before the coffin and it glowed, as it sent his summons to the intended creatures. Regina jumped, as she heard a screeching sound.

"What was that?" she questioned.

"I have summoned the Furies to help guard her. He'll find her, but he'll have to go through them first," Hermes said, as three frightening creatures emerged seemingly from beneath the ground and Regina took a step back. The dark, wraith-like billowy figures had snakes for hair and blood dripped from their eyes. In addition, they had bat like wings and their screeches were bone-chilling.

"She is my prisoner...guard her well," Hermes ordered, as he gestured to Snow in the coffin.

"Let's go...My Lord has been waiting long enough to enact his vengeance," Hermes said and as they disappeared, Regina heard Snow's scream and tried to ignore the spark of regret inside her blackened heart.

Jefferson convened back in the lobby with the others and he instantly felt badly for his friends, for David and Emma both looked panicked.

"Any luck?" Emma asked. He shook his head.

"I don't think she's here," he mentioned regrettably, as Persephone appeared.

"Neal is watching Henry and I have one of Snow's scarves," Persephone said, as Gold offered a locator potion. She took it from him.

"I brought one too, but thank you," she said, accepting his gift and poured it over the scarf. It floated before them, just as Whale came into the lobby.

"He made it," Whale announced, as they all acted like they didn't hear him.

"Hello...the stranger is alive, thanks to my gifted hands. Isn't that what you wanted?" he asked irritably.

"Uh yeah...there's just more going on now. Thanks," Emma offered.

"Is he awake?" she asked.

"Yes...you can talk to him if you need to," Whale replied, as he left.

"Emma…" David started to say.

"Dad...you can't be seriously asking me to stay behind on this one," she said.

"I don't want to, but we also need to make sure our guest knows that he should be on his way so to speak as soon as possible. And it only makes sense for the Sheriff or Deputy to talk to him. I can text you our location when you're done," he said. She nodded, knowing he was right, and she hugged him tightly.

"I'll find her...I promise," he said. She nodded and walked back toward the patient's recovery room.

"Rumple and I will go to the loft and make sure everything is okay with Henry. He'll be upset when Neal tells him, I'm sure," Belle offered. David nodded gratefully.

"Especially if Regina is behind this," Gold added bitterly.

"Let's keep that little detail under wraps until we know for sure," David requested and Gold agreed with a curt nod. With that, David and Persephone exited the hospital, as they followed the scarf.

"You up for one more?" Jefferson asked, as he tagged along.

"We are if you are," David answered, as the Hatter joined them.

Tamara packed her things and spared a glance at her prisoner, who she had handcuffed to the bed in the room.

"You know, I've been tied to a few beds before, but this is definitely not in a good way," Hook commented.

"Sorry to disappoint you, but we'll be moving along now. It's time to go to Storybrooke," she replied.

"Yes...and what are your plans when you get there? You must realize that there is magic there. Your pistol may not get you as far there as it does out in this world," he warned. She smirked.

"Oh, but I'm Neal's fiance. They'll have no reason to suspect me of any malfeasance...until it's much too late," Tamara replied.

"And what do you plan to do with me, lass? I have no stakes in your plot, whatever that may be," Hook reminded. She smirked.

"Are you sure?" she questioned, as she put her bag by the door.

"You see...my goal and the goal of my associate is to destroy magic," she stated. He looked bewildered by that.

"Destroy magic?" he questioned. She nodded.

"And how pray tell do you plan to do that? I've been around magic in my considerably long life and I've never encountered such a way to do so. That is why I wanted to come to this land, for the absence of magic is the only way to skin my crocodile," he responded.

"I may not know exactly how to destroy magic completely yet, but my superiors do. I also have ways of nullifying magical attacks. They don't seem to hold up well to my world's technology," she mentioned, as she held a black device in her hand and pressed the trigger, showing him the electric charge in her high powered taser.

"And what will your fiance think when he finds out the real reason you're coming to town?" Hook questioned.

"Neal is a good man...but will be unfortunately collateral damage," Tamara replied. He frowned and she laughed.

"You don't think I actually love him, do you?" she questioned.

"You're engaged...I assumed. Silly me, I suppose," he replied bitterly.

"Don't worry...I'm not going to kill him, as long as he doesn't get in my way. You should be happy though. An alliance with me can get you exactly what you want," she said, as she looked at him.

"Your Crocodile," she tempted.

"I've hunted this beast for longer than you've been alive...longer than your great grandparents were alive. The Dark One can only be killed in a place with magic with one object," Hook warned.

"Yes...the dagger," she replied. He looked surprised that she knew that.

"I told you that my superiors know everything about that little town and its inhabitants," she reminded.

"Yes...you keep mentioning your superiors, but you offer no names," he leered.

"We just call them the Home Office and their goal is the same of ours. That is to remove magic from this world. It's unnatural...it's a disease," she spat.

"Dark magic is...I agree. But there is light magic. I have seen light magic do good in my time as well, albeit much less often," he challenged. She smirked.

"All magic is evil...even the supposed true love kind. There is always a price, even for true love, and it is always paid in blood," she said. He smirked.

"I sense there is a story behind that," he mentioned.

"No story...I just hate magic," she countered. He smirked.

"Right…" he snorted derisively.

"Cheer up Captain...stick with me and I can guarantee that you can skin that Croc," she tempted.

"You propose an interesting proposition, lass. But I've been around long enough to know that you'll want something from me if you manage the task of incapacitating the Dark One. Captain Hook is no fool," he hissed. She smirked.

"You're right...how are you at creating distractions and being a general nuisance?" she asked. He smirked.

"Oh...I would say I excel quite nicely at it. Who do you want distracted?" he questioned.

"Emma Swan and her family, of course. Distractions will be needed if we're going to be able to do what we want," she responded. He smirked.

"Aye...I can provide some distractions, indeed. But I warn you, love...I am not a person you want to double cross," he warned.

"Neither am I, Captain...but I assure you that an alliance between us will give us both what we want," she assured.

"Then I believe we have an accord," Hook agreed.

Emma took a deep breath and entered with Greg Mendell's personal effects.

"The nurse was just in here," he commented.

"Not nurse...Sheriff Swan," she said with a slight edge in her voice.

"Oh…" he uttered.

"Here's your personal effects back. How are you feeling, Mr. Mendell?" she asked.

"Pretty good, considering. They told me it was touch and go there for a while," he replied. She nodded.

"Uh...did I hit someone in the accident? Is that why you're here?" he asked nervously.

"No...you were the only injured party," she replied and he sighed in relief.

"However...your tox screen came back and you had alcohol in your system. Not enough to be legally drunk, but you were definitely driving under the influence. Want to tell me about that?" she asked. He looked down shamefully.

"Yeah...so I'm kind of on a trip. My girlfriend and I are taking a break. We had another fight on the phone and I had a drink or two with dinner. I knew it was a mistake, but I figured I'd be okay driving up to Portland. I was wrong," he replied. Emma gazed at him with scrutiny. She wanted to believe him...she really wanted to believe him. But he was not passing her inner lie detector. Part of her was so distracted with everything else going on that she might have missed it, but her desire to protect her son and her parents overruled her worry about everything else. This guy was definitely not being completely truthful. The problem was that she didn't know exactly what he was lying about.

"Am I under arrest?" he asked bluntly. She gave him a steely stare.

"I'd be well within my right to charge you with a DUI..but I'm going to let you off with a warning," she replied. He sighed in relief.

"Thank you," he said gratefully.

"Drinking and driving isn't a good idea, but this is your lucky day. Rest up, Mr. Mendell and you can be on your way to Portland," she replied sternly, as she turned and left the room. Once she was gone, Greg smirked deviously.

"Yeah...you're not getting rid of me that easily. Not until this town is burning…" he hissed beneath his breath.

The scarf floated just before the doors to the library and it should have come as no surprise to them. As they went inside, the scarf slowly floated toward the elevator and then hovered there.

"That's a bit predictable, isn't it?" Jefferson questioned.

"Unless there's a fight waiting for us down there," David replied. Persephone nodded.

"We need someone to operate the elevator," she said to the Hatter. Jefferson nodded. Clearly, if there was a fight down there, he would only be in the way. But he could do this and it would help.

"Whatever you need," he agreed, as they boarded the elevator. Jefferson operated the hand crank and slowly lowered them into the cavern. Persephone watched him clench his fist and put her hand on his arm.

"She's down here and we'll save her," she assured her.

"I know...but whoever took her had her for a while," he said, as he clenched his teeth.

"If they've hurt her…" he growled.

"Then they will pay, but Snow will be okay, we will see to that," Persephone responded, as the elevator docked at the bottom and they opened the door.

As they entered the dark cavern, they heard a scream and David took off in a sprint.

"Snow!" he called frantically, as he rushed headlong into the blackness.

"David wait!" Persephone cried, as she heard an inhuman screeching echo through the cavern. She ran to catch up with him and raised her hands, creating a couple of standing torches, filling the cavern with some light. She saw her son-in-law swipe his sword at the three creatures that circled about menacingly.

"Furies…" she uttered.

"What?" he questioned.

"Furies...minions of my husband's from the Underworld," Persephone clarified, as it was then that she saw the large Caduceus staff planted in the ground and her blood ran cold.

"That staff...I know who did this…" she uttered, as magic erupted from her fingertips and she battled the furies with him. He glanced at her, as he swiped at the creature.

"Who?" he asked.

"That staff belongs to none other than Hermes...he's behind this," she replied, as they battled the furies.

"Why would Hermes want to hurt Snow?" he asked, as he ducked to evade the sharp claws of the fury.

"To hurt me...but it's much worse than that, I fear," she lamented.

"We'll deal with it, whatever it is. First, we have to kill these things and since I'm guessing they're not actually alive, my sword is probably not going to cut it," he said.

"No...only fire can kill them," she said. With that, Charming grabbed one of the torches she had created and began to duel with the angry one that seemed intent on trying to sink its fangs into him. It screeched angrily at him and swiped it's claws, catching his shirt and tearing it open. He hissed, as he noticed the lacerations on his skin and the blood drawn. He growled and thrust the flame part of the torch into the creature's eyes. It screamed and the echo shuddered through the entire cave. He kept pressing it into the creature, until the fire began to eat away at the essence of the fury, until it burned up completely.

Persephone dodged the angry clawing and her magic morphed from lavender energy into fire. It wasn't often that she strayed from her organic type magic to elemental power, but she would do anything for her little Snow without hesitation. She engulfed the second fury with twin fireballs and it wailed in agony as it was destroyed. David batted the last one away from the coffin where his terrified wife was trapped. Persephone hit it with a fireball to draw it away, as David used his sword to pry the sealed glass lid off.

"Charming…" Snow sobbed, as he cut her bonds and then lifted her into his arms. She buried her face in his chest, as he kissed her hair and rubbed a soothing hand on her back. She looked up just in time to see Hermes' staff glow behind them and she cried out, as the snakes on it came alive. They grew gigantic and towered above them. David put her on her feet, but continued to hold her close, as they stared up at the new problem before them. Persephone destroyed the last fury and fired a magical attack at one of the snakes. It hissed angrily and turned its head to her, before snapping its powerful jaws at her. She dodged and saw that her attack had no effect.

"It's impervious to magic...damn Hermes," she cursed, as she willed a sword into her hand and a bow and quiver appeared for Snow.

"Guess we'll have to do this the old fashioned way," David said, as he poised his sword and charged at one of the snakes, while Snow fired an arrow at the other. It screeched angrily at her, as the arrow struck it in the neck. Persephone grabbed her arm and they dodged the snake's snapping jaws. Meanwhile, David had climbed up onto one of the rocky outcroppings and prepared to slay one of them. But he knew it had to be just right.

"Distract it!" he called. Persephone created a fireball and it hissed angrily, as it focused on her, while David jumped and landed on the snake's giant head. He roared and snapped its jaws, but had no time to do anything, as David drove his sword into its brain, dropping it dead to the ground instantly. It was a bloody mess that made all their stomachs churn in disgust. The other one hissed angrily and slithered toward David, but Snow was not having it.

"Get away from my husband!" she called, as she fired an arrow into its neck. It turned its attention to her again, which was exactly what she wanted and she fired an arrow directly into its eye. It made a terrible shrieking noise, which died promptly, as Persephone swiped her sword through its neck, decapitating it in another sickening mess. They all breathed in relief and he rushed to Snow, scooping her into his arms.

"Charming…" she cried, as their lips met in a series of continual, passionate kisses.

"Oh Snow…" he breathed, as he held her close and continued kissing her for a few moments. Persephone smiled gently at them, as she stood quietly by.

"Did he hurt you?" David asked, as he cupped her face in his hands. She shook her head.

"No...but they took blood," Snow said, as she looked at her mother and showed them her hand.

"They? Then Regina is involved in this?" he growled. Snow nodded sadly.

"She's just angry…" Snow said, as she noticed her mother looked very pale.

"Why would he take Snow's blood?" David asked, as he looked to her. Snow looked at her tearfully.

"He's using my blood to bring Hades here," she told him. His brow furrowed.

"I don't understand...how would your blood bring Hades here?" David asked.

"Because the only way for Hades to come to this realm is if you summon Charon to bring him. And the only way to do that is with the blood of someone who has both been to the land of the living and the world of the dead," Persephone replied.

"But that would be your blood…" he said, as he trailed off and thought about it for a moment.

"And Snow's because she was born there," he finished with a sigh. Snow looked at them tearfully.

"Hades is coming…" she said fearfully. Persephone closed the distance between them and took their hands.

"He may be, but I will never let him hurt this family," she insisted, trying to push down her panic.

"I need to get to the lake," she said, as she started toward the elevator.

"We're coming with you," Snow said, as they followed.

"Absolutely not…" Persephone protested.

"That was a statement, not a request. I'm not letting you face him alone," Snow said. Persephone squeezed her hands and knew there was no use in arguing. Sooner or later, they would come face to face with Hades, no matter what she did. It was better if she was there with them when they did.

"Jefferson…bring us up!" David called, as they boarded the elevator and slowly ascended to the surface. As they arrived on the main level, Emma came bursting into the library and took a relieved breath, as she saw that her mother was okay.

"Mom…" she called, as she hurried over and David prodded his wife into their daughter's arms.

"I'm fine sweetie," Snow promised.

"Who the hell put you down there?" Emma asked.

"It was Hermes...and Regina," Snow replied.

"So Regina did do this," Emma growled.

"She's angry and she's grieving. Cora's death just made her want revenge. I don't think she's thinking straight," Snow reasoned.

"Snow...I love you, but Regina helped abduct you and then let Hermes release hell furies to guard you. Not to mention the giant snakes," David admonished and Snow looked sad and shuddered, remembering how frightened she had been.

"He has a point. I know you still care about her, but she doesn't deserve it," Jefferson reminded.

"I know…" she said.

"That seems like a pretty elaborate way to kill someone. Why the theatrics?" Emma asked.

"Because Hermes' goal was to get a sample of Snow's blood. Hades is coming," Persephone stated gravely.

"Do you know where?" Emma asked.

"He will come aboard Charon's boat. The lake if I had to guess," Persephone replied.

"Then I guess we're going to the lake," Emma said, as the five of them hurried out.

"Dad?" Henry said sleepily that morning, as he came down the stairs.

"Hey buddy," he called.

"What are you doing here so early?" Henry asked curiously.

"Your grandmother had a bit of an emergency and asked me to come over to stay with you," Neal replied.

"What kind of an emergency?" Neal asked, as there was a knock at the loft door. Neal opened it and let his father and Belle in.

"Hey...any news?" he asked. Belle nodded.

"David just texted me. They found her...but there is bigger problems," Belle responded, as she looked at Rumple.

"Papa?" he asked.

"It's Hades...he's coming here," Rumple answered.

"Hades...the Hades? Like Persephone's husband that she escaped?" he asked. Rumple nodded.

"Yes...Snow White's kidnapping was solely for the purpose of obtaining her blood. Hermes has betrayed Zeus and sided with the God of the Underworld," Rumple stated.

"I don't understand...how does Snow's blood bring Hades here?" Neal asked.

"The blood of one that has both been to the land of the living and the world of the dead can allow Hades passage to this realm. Only Snow and Persephone fit that description. I need to join the others at the lake," Rumple replied. Neal nodded and grabbed his coat.

"Can you stay with him? I need to go too," he replied.

"Bae…" Rumple started to protest.

"I can stay," she agreed.

"Let's go," Neal said, not allowing Rumple to argue with him and the Dark One acquiesced. With a final glance at Belle, he followed his son down the stairs.

As festival season comes back around Apple have produced a new advert for the mac computer serving as an ode to the artists whose songs have been featured by the company in previous years. After recently announcing the termination of itunes it stands to reason that the company must once again re-establish their long standing coalition with the music scene.

There is a logic to this: Apple, which was initially founded by Steve, both Jobs and Wozniak, in 1976, has come to be known for possessing the technology best suited to music streaming. This development is a recent one however, and can predominantly be considered a 21st century advancement.* That’s right, this company brought us not only itunes but the ipod, airpods and the homepod among several other devices which combine both sound and visuals. Music is integral to the brand’s identity but this wasn’t always the case…

In 1981 after several years of legal battle with the Beatles’ own company of the same name, it was agreed that Apple computer would steer clear of any involvement with the music sector, a promise which they did not successfully follow through on. By the end of the 1980’s Apple had already been sued for their involvement in music creation, in 2003 the invention of itunes provoked yet another disagreement and so it went on until 2007 when an arrangement based on the use of trademarks settled the dispute. It took another three years for the marked absence of the fab four on our playlists to be rectified and the band were eventually made downloadable on itunes at the culmination of the last decade.*

There’s a special something about Apple ads that make them stand out. The simplicity on which the company prides itself, the allure of a catchy slogan, of course, but what else? Jobs, who allegedly placed marketing as a main priority, second only to technological innovation can himself, take partial credit for many of the breakthrough publicity schemes. To cite just one of the most judicious marketing ploys, ‘Why 1984 won’t be like 1984,’ was a tag-line that Jobs enthusiastically gave the go-ahead on. The Macintosh computer’s debut in the mid-eighties featured twice in the commercial break during the super bowl. Buying advertising for this time slot was expensive and indicated that Apple were serious in their aims of reaching a wider audience. Ridley Scott, director of dystopian sci-fi drama ‘Blade Runner’ made the commercial in the same vein as his previous work, with a sympathetic heroine intent on single handedly fighting the ‘forces of evil’ so to speak.

‘Think Different,’ was yet another phrase conjured by team Apple. This cleverly aspirational quote of the consumer led nineties played homage to many wonderful icons in an ad campaign featuring many historical figures who Jobs himself, held personal admiration for. Among those included were Einstein, Gandhi, Jim Henson, Martha Graham, Martin Luther King jr, John F. Kennedy and John Lennon to name just a few. What you might notice about these plucky individuals is the maverick element of their personalities, which Jobs was keen to promote and harness as a quality his own target base could relate to. The masterful way in which ‘Think Different’ worked to accumulate loyal cult followers and simultaneously set them apart from their rivals took true genius. Rarely has marketing been quite so slick. Purportedly the slogan was dreamed up in response to IBM, (Apple’s main adversary at the time) and their own catch phrase- ‘think’.* IBM, often playing the part of a common adversary, was regularly victim to Apple’s sly us-versus-them propaganda. This was indeed clear to see in most of their well-known promotional material (get a mac) with the only noticeable change over time becoming the casting of the villain, as microsoft overtook IBM as the main competitor.

Often Apple’s advertising focuses less on the item itself but instead on the feeling one would acquire as a result of owning it. The odd pricing is never the central point of focus, however the cost is undoubtedly part and parcel in what the brand wishes to convey about the superior quality of their designs. There is a sense of achievement, an appealing level of elitism in owning an Apple product that the company has so successfully cultivated through their marketing campaigns. It’s fair to say that more so than any other computing giant, Apple is a brand with an ideology, a brand which promotes the same sense of ingeniousness and inspiration on which it was founded. ‘Think Different’ is not just a suggestion but an explanation as to how Steve Jobs and his team succeeded in creating such a large empire, in the end dominating the field of mobile technology.

Manufacturers look to cater to women entering the shooting sports through a variety of means, but most notably, the women’s holster market. Filled with lacey, feminine designs, the women’s holster arena often caters to fashion and comfort. Hidden Heat Lace Holster by Miss Concealed is one such holster. A gorgeous lace construction, the Hidden Heat aims for a sexier approach to concealment.

Guns.com got our hands on an original Hidden Heat Lace Holster to see if its beauty could keep pace with function.

What is the Hidden Heat Lace?

Hidden Heat Lace, by Miss Concealed, is a belly band style holster created specifically for women. Occupying the space of fashionable firearm holsters, the Hidden Heat looks to bring femininity into the holster fold with a soft, lacey design.

Using Velcro to secure around the wearer, the Hidden Heat Lace holster comes with a 5-inch firearm compartment to accommodate a variety of firearm sizes. The pocket sports a Velcro retention strap to secure the firearm in place while two additional pockets – situated on either side of the main, firearm area –hold smaller accessories.

The Hidden Heat Lace comes in a bevy of sizes, starting at small and ending at extra-large. With a price tag of under $40, the holster is more budget friendly than similar, female-oriented holsters on the market.

Concealment with the Hidden Heat

I’ll be honest, I am usually skeptical of any rig deemed a “women’s holster.” In my experience, these tend to offer less security while focusing on the pure feminine aesthetic. While looking nice is a bonus, it’s not a necessity to holster function and shouldn’t be the primary focus of carrying. Let’s be honest, if you’re concealed carrying no one should be seeing your holster any way.

The Hidden Heat comes equipped with two accessory pockets as well as a the main, firearm compartment. The addition of the accessory pockets proves useful, especially if you wish to carry a spare mag, flashlight or knife. One pocket is smaller and perfect for those little accessories while the other is slightly bigger, accommodating a phone or ID. Nothing secures these accessories, however, so if you’re in a tussle or you end up in any other position other than vertical, your accessories may fall out. The added pockets are a nice touch though and the Hidden Heat works as a makeshift on-body purse if you choose to go out on the town and leave the purse at home.

Holsters like the Hidden Heat center on deep concealment – meaning the holster works to hide away the gun by more or less burying it. While the tactic does usually produce concealment, deep concealers have to balance access with concealment. In the case of the Hidden Heat, access is fairly limited. The Hidden Heat, features a massive pocket that holds the firearm. Larger guns will rest comfortably within the holster’s pocket; however, smaller guns tend to become buried and therefore require more digging to access. Paired with a Velcro retention strap that must be detached prior to drawing, access to the firearm diminishes.

Futher, the Hidden Heat didn’t offer me the kind of concealment I am use to. Normally sporting a Glock 19 in a kydex holster, the Hidden Heat couldn’t adequately conceal a smaller, Smith & Wesson Shield in the appendix position. With no wedge, claw or wing to rotate the gun into my body, the grip protruded from my waistline. No amount of placement or twisting or turning could rectify this.

What the holster does right is comfort. The elastic and material used is very soft and can ride directly against the skin without the need for an undershirt. It breathes fairly well for a full fabric design and is easy to put on and off. The downside to its fabric design, though, is that the trigger area on the holster is completely unguarded and, yes, the trigger can be engaged through the fabric – a big con to any holster design, especially if you are a woman who carries around children. The Velcro construction on both the retention strap and the holster itself is also another area to watch as this material does wear out over time.

Final Thoughts

While the Hidden Heat Lace is a fashionable looking holster, it doesn’t meet my requirements for carry. If you are specifically hunting for a feminine, lacey design that provides deep concealment then the Hidden Heat fits that bill; however, if access and the ability to draw unimpeded is the priority you’d do better to look elsewhere.

Mercury Retrograde March Forecast ~ Follow The Heart

The last month of winter has a Janus vibe that has us looking both backward and ahead. And up and down and all around, come to think of it.

A nine-year process wraps up as the month begins. The personal revolution that’s been waging in you since April 2010? The hard-won sense of self that’s emerged out of the chaos and turmoil and foundation collapsing since then? All that has been ramping up in recent weeks as Uranus nears the end of his time in Aries.

It hits a breaking point on March 1, when Venus squares Uranus and puts desires and relationships through a graduation exercise. Situations simply cannot go on any longer as they have been. Tectonic plates lurched when Venus met with Pluto and then the South Node just after Valentine’s Day. Now the seismic activity completes. Continents reshape. Locks break; hearts open. Perhaps vice versa.

Almost on impact, everything hurtles into detachment as the goddess of love, money, and creativity immediately leaves Capricorn for Aquarius, land of the friend zone. The social mode responds with perspective and breathing room and scientific attempts to make sense of what just happened.

That philosophical vibe takes us into March 6, when the backward-forward action kicks in That day hosts an astrological triple-header: (1) the phase-launching Pisces New Moon, with illusionist Neptune hosting the cruise, which would be reality-bending by itself, but wait, we’ve also got (2) Mercury stationing retrograde in Pisces and (3) Uranus finally leaving the impulsive fires of Aries for the solid, steady ground of Taurus.

Neptune conjunct the Sun at the New Moon may deliver forgiveness of the self. With expansive Jupiter insisting “more, more, more,” visions of what’s possible for your life could fly off the charts. And, of course, we may all be walking around dazed, confused and unhinged from reality.

Mercury contributes the backward piece of the event. His retrograde takes him from 29 to 16 degrees Pisces and lasts until March 28. The starting point is critical. It’s the last degree of the zodiac, called the degree of ultimate sorrow, and the place where Chiron bided his time from the end of January till the middle of February.

This retrograde returns us to the issues, themes, and wounds that Chiron stirred. (Don’t everyone cheer at once!) It promises to immerse us in a non-logical understanding of what Chiron was up to. It also heightens sensitivity and telepathy, not to mention confusion and susceptibility to deceit.

Fly on instruments instead of what your eyes are telling you because fog is obscuring the true nature of what’s around you. The atmosphere is an elaboration on the warning on some car side mirrors: Objects may be closer than they appear. Only this time it’s more like: Objects may be further than they appear. Or not there at all. Or there but not reflected in the mirror.

And in the midst – or is it mists? – of this misdirection, radical change agent Uranus re-enters Taurus, which he first dipped into in mid-May 2018. Something is moving into a tangible, practical form that we’ve been processing and tweaking since November 6, when Uranus retrograded into his final sweep of Aries. A new mode of interacting with physical reality has arrived. Probably affected areas: money and finances, food production and consumption, expression of creativity, aesthetics, forms of relating and technology.

Look for a connection between the events of mid-May 2018 (particularly startling or unexpected) and situations changing and blossoming now.

From there we’re feeling our way forward, feet tapping the ground ahead of us and taking the occasional chance on faith. Mid-month brings the paradox of tightly refocusing our sense of self while simultaneously blowing out walls that have contained our personalities and possibilities. Practical action flows amid a meeting between the Sun and retrograde Mercury (on March 14), which could inspire letting ourselves off the hook, or bring home the personal meaning of Chiron at the end of the zodiac, or blur understanding of ourselves.

Mercury’s trickster ways hit critical mass when a square from Jupiter pumps him up on the Ides of March. Hard truths may get you through it. The messenger god’s sextile to Pluto puts ruthless candor (especially with yourself) on tap if you take advantage of it.

The Sun clears out of the water, moves into Aries and ushers in the equinox on March 20. The day sets the tone for the next three months. It offers opportunities to cut back on the fog and to stabilize and impose structure and practicality on thinking, information, and communications, with Mercury sextiling order-loving Saturn.

The day also challenges relationships, Thank a Full Moon at 0 Libra, with the Sun conjunct Chiron and Uranus in a tight adjustment aspect to the Moon. The relationship seesaw has the masculine wounded and acting out and allowances having to be made for the feminine, emotions and the role of women. The Moon’s ruler Venus has Jupiter whispering, “Go for it!” into her ear.

She’s not wasting time. The action comes the next day when she squares her counterpart, Mars. Push comes to shove; something’s gotta give. The pyrotechnics might be heavy on the verbal, screwball comedy style, but with Mars in earthy Taurus something more physical is likely.

The impact could bring bliss, or romance, or understanding, or magical thinking. Retrograde Mercury meets Neptune on March 23, and no one is likely to be rectifying bank statements. At least not with any accuracy.

The sweetness carries on till April 20, after Venus slips into Pisces on March 26. She’s exalted in this sign, which orients social interactions to the kind, compassionate, spiritual and artistic. She and Uranus offer a deal the next day – perhaps love does have the power to heal the fractures from the month’s start?

As she sails off into the sunset, the woozy atmosphere begins to lift. Mercury stations direct and begins his final pass over the waters Chiron stirred so. (He’ll clear them mid-April.) On the month’s last day, Mars leaves Taurus for freewheeling Gemini. Heaviness lifts. People are inclined to chatter, to gambol and frolic, even to multitask. Enjoy the freedom of movement.

Silence engulfed the ride pretty quickly, and it made my mind wonder, into regions I didn’t want it to go right now. I kept asking myself Why? Why now? And most of all; Was I to blame for what Abel was going through? Rationally, of course, I was far from the cause, but the shock of it was still setting in, so I wasn’t thinking straight. In fact, within these irrational moments, I even considered driving off a cliff edge with Eva in toe, and making it look like a double suicide, but then, a wave of sanity washed over me and I concluded that, instead of it being a temporary solution, it would lead to even more devastation and ultimately way more problems down the line, for the club and what little was left of my ‘family’. Plus, I had just met Eva and we seemed to bond instantly. No, I’m not just saying that because my dick got excited, I mean it! In those few moments that I was routed to the spot, I found a purpose; to keep fighting, and that, in turn is what I need to do for Abel, and maybe, hopefully, at some stage, for both.

Let’s face it. I was the only person Abel had right now and if I wasn’t willing to fight for him, why should he be the one to potentially die? Sense was starting to battle its way back into my torn up mind. I may have almost won the sensibility battle, but the one that was raging over whether I should see him, or bitch, or neither, was far from over and growing in intensity as the silence continued. I had to break it. Otherwise, I feared I’d do something stupid, regardless of my mental progress.

Let’s take a moment to break the ice.

Fortunately, nothing went black or fuzzy. This was real. Our eyes now locked and instantly, we both went for it. Our lips collided, with an almost underlying intensive need. We let it last for what felt like hours, but in retrospect, were just a few, blissful minutes. Within that time, I had decided that I wanted to protect Eva and guard my own suffering. She didn’t need my shit on top of her own. Only thing she did need, was safety and a solution to a problem that, as I said, I am determined to rectify.

Silence crept in yet again after we eventually broke apart, but this time, it was a different kind. Prior to the kiss, it was cold and relentless, now it was replaced with comfort, understanding and a growing bond between us.

After a while, we turned our attention to the array of stars up above us. We gazed at them and intertwined our hands. I was convinced that this was a sign; a sign of better things to come.

Suddenly, our gazing was interrupted by the sound of my phone. I quickly retrieved it from my back pocket, took one look at the ID tag and immediately slammed it back down.

AYLMER, ONT. — In the middle of giving a tour, Sheldon Garfinkle peers into one of his company’s water tanks. Blue shrimp the size of fingers dart away from him, hiding in the far corners.

“They can hear us,” he said. “They are very sensitive creatures.”

Garfinkle’s great accomplishment is that these sensitive shrimp are alive at all, trotting around tanks stacked six levels high. For five years, the biggest problem in Canada’s fledgling, indoor shrimping business has been dead shrimp. If the water is too cold, they die. If the filtration isn’t right, they die.

For the few shrimp farmers operating in Canada, a 50-per-cent survival rate is an achievement. As a result, homegrown shrimp has been a rare delicacy, served infrequently by chefs and high-end fishmongers.

But at the Planet Shrimp facility, 45 kilometres south of London, Ont., in Aylmer, Garfinkle and his team say they have figured out how to produce shrimp at a commercial scale.

Garfinkle, the company’s chief executive, conservatively puts the plant’s capacity at 300,000 pounds of shrimp a year — enough to start looking into international exports while fulfilling a growing list of supply agreements with luxury hotels, resorts and upscale Toronto retail chains such as Pusateri’s Fine Foods and Hooked seafood markets. The shrimp also show up at dozens of restaurants across southern Ontario, and will soon be offered on 360 Restaurant’s summer menu atop the CN Tower.

Canadian farmed shrimp seems on the verge of a new phase, with Planet Shrimp and a competitor in British Columbia both claiming that they are making good on their ambitions to expand their reach far beyond a group of local chefs. “Shrimp’s the new cannabis,” one Planet Shrimp executive joked recently. But with so few success stories and a high retail price tag, the shrimp’s path to the big time and grocery stores will be difficult.

The main selling point for the Canadian product is what it is not. It’s not shipped in from thousands of kilometres away. It’s not as ecologically harmful as wild-caught shrimp, which often involves dragging nets that inadvertently catch endangered species such as turtles, sharks and dolphins.

It’s also not the kind of cheap farmed shrimp from Asia, much of which is grown in outdoor pools created by destroying mangroves and treated with antibiotics to keep the shrimp alive, according to Ocean Wise marine biologist Alasdair Lindop.

But producing commercial quantities indoors means keeping millions and millions of shrimp. A lot can go wrong, even though the concept of such farming seems simple enough.

“I could do it in my backyard,” said Warren Douglas, project manager at Berezan Shrimp Co. in Langley, B.C., the only other fully operational shrimp farm in Canada. “You know, build a little shed and I could be growing shrimp probably within a few months.”

In a commercial context, however, “you’ve got basically a life support system keeping millions of animals alive,” he said.

Both Berezan and Planet Shrimp monitor their facilities 24 hours a day, seven days a week, watching for issues in the tanks that could threaten the stock — for example, a burst pipe that lowers water levels.

“In the middle of the night, if the alarm goes off, in some cases you’ve got less than 20 minutes to rectify it,” Douglas said, “otherwise, you start losing shrimp.”

The short history of shrimping in Canada starts with Paul Cocchio and his son Brad. They were hog farmers in Cambellford, Ont., two hours northeast of Toronto, who turned their hog barn into a shrimp barn five years ago.

The shrimp barn is empty now. Cocchio was fed up. He was paying to heat the water to nearly 30 C through the winter and buy supplies from the U.S. on a weak Canadian dollar, only to pull up tattered shrimp corpses whenever he skimmed the bottom of his tanks.

“We haven’t figured out what’s gone wrong,” he said.

Cocchio’s shrimp production peaked at 200 pounds a week sometime around 2017. The wineries in nearby Prince Edward County bought most of it. Then consultants and aquaculture experts started making suggestions, he said, about improving his water filtration and increasing his shrimp survival rate beyond 50 per cent.

“Everything we tried made it worse,” he said. “I don’t know — couldn’t figure out why. We’d had enough of it by then.”

Cocchio said now, eight months after closing, he suspects murder. “We think it’s fighting at that point,” he said of the dead shrimp. The corpses he skimmed from the bottom of the tank were often “torn apart.”

But he has no way of knowing. The water is his tanks was too murky to see what was going on, since Cocchio’s system used algae as part of the filtration process.

“You look at water and you say, ‘Oh, there’s water,'” he said. “But when you start really looking at water, it’s amazing what science is behind it.”

In the filtration room at Planet Shrimp in Aylmer, 10 million gallons of water pass through per day. The waste is dried and sold in “cakes” as fertilizer. The heated water makes the room humid, almost feverish. The smell it gives off is vaguely reminiscent of a lake on a hot day — or maybe an outhouse beside a lake on a hot day.

“The smell starts to get to you,” Garfinkle said. But the water rushing out of the filtration room seems to thrill him. “That’s clear water,” he said. Asked if he would drink it, he said he would and then paused. “I wouldn’t go out of my way.”

The water and the shrimp in it are intensely monitored by sensors throughout the farm that collect a million data points per day. The shrimp grow in a row of shallow tanks, one row stacked on top of another, six rows high.

Each row is as long as a football field, beginning with the nursery and ending in the Phase 5 tank. As the shrimp grow, they are transferred to progressively larger tanks, until Phase 5, when they are “harvested.”

In a lab beside the network of tanks, Planet Shrimp analysts monitor the shrimp’s progress in real time, watching, for example, how one tank’s weight matches up with the average, or how water data — salinity, temperature, pH — might explain any abnormalities in the shrimp stock.

After 137 days, the shrimp are siphoned out of the tank, through a turnstile, into a tube that shoots them to slaughter like mail through a mailroom. The water in the tube is colder than in the tanks, which makes the shrimp docile in their final seconds.

Garfinkle looks up at the tubes that line the wall of the “chill kill” room. They’re like water slides. The shrimp slide out the tube onto a conveyor belt with little sprinklers over top — the “car wash,” as he calls it — that spray the shrimp with ice water cold enough to instantly kill them. About 74 per cent of them make it to this stage, which is above the level that Addison Lawrence, an 83-year-old professor at Texas A&M University and shrimp farming pioneer, said is needed for a commercially viable shrimp farm.

“What they’re doing, it is the future,” Lawrence said.

From there, an X-ray machine grades them in half a second. If a shrimp is jumbo, it ends up in the jumbo chute. The same process separates the medium shrimp and smaller shrimp. But the measly ones, or ones with puncture wounds or other defects, slide alone to the end of the conveyor belt, which drops them one storey into a reject bin.

A supervisor watches the shrimp as they enter the X-ray machine. He grabs one that is larger than the others, at least 40 grams, which he brings over to show Garfinkle.

“That’s what we call a colossal,” Garfinkle said, adding that when Planet Shrimp starts breeding shrimp, they will use such big ones such as brood stock.

Planet Shrimp currently gets its shrimp babies, or “post-larvae,” from a hatchery in Texas. The babies are packed in a bag filled with ocean water, flown to Toronto and trucked to Aylmer where they’re inspected by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. They’re given time to acclimatize to Planet’s Shrimp’s water conditions, a third of the salinity levels of ocean water, before being released into the nursery tank.

Last week, a storm in Houston cancelled the shrimp babies’ flight, forcing Planet Shrimp to wait three days for a new batch to be delivered, since keeping the others in limbo that long would have put too much “stress on the animals,” Garfinkle said. “That’s the reason to have a hatchery.”

Planet Shrimp has installed hatchery tanks at its facility to produce post-larvae, thereby simplifying the process. The tanks are empty now, though Garfinkle said they’ll be operational soon, through a “strategic alliance” with his post-larvae supplier in Texas.

But starting a hatchery has been complicated for Kerry LeBreton, president of Good4Ushrimp Inc. in Sudbury, Ont. Until recently, Good4U was the only other operational shrimp farm in Ontario. But its plans for a hatchery forced it to halt production.

“This is where the politics comes in,” LeBreton said.

The U.S. producers who sell post-larvae require their clients to agree that the babies won’t be used as brood stock to start a competing hatchery, he said.

“I refuse to buy from those suppliers,” he said. “So I have no shrimp in the farm.”

Until his hatchery is able to produce enough post-larvae to supply his 18,000-square-foot farm, his tanks are stuck at five-per-cent capacity. He said he expects to have the hatchery operational in the next few weeks.

To start the hatchery, LeBreton ordered brood stock from Hawaii at roughly US$25 apiece. Females can produce up to 400,000 post larvae once a month.

Some hatcheries will cut off one of the female’s eyes, manipulating its hormones to cause it to reproduce more often — a process called eyestalk ablation. LeBreton said he refuses to do that.

“Curious enough, the females will actually choose their mates,” he said, adding that he has seen females refuse males.

“Nobody here has ever witnessed the actual mating,” LeBreton said. “Maybe they’re shy. I don’t know. I have to assume it’s pretty damn quick, because we’re obviously watching.”

The tour back at Planet Shrimp ends at a makeshift office. It is drab room outside the biosecure shrimp farm area, dominated by the smell of the anti-bacterial footbath that all visitors must slosh their feet in. Marvyn Budd, the president and founder of the company, walks in.

“I decorated myself,” he said of the office, a jumble of plastic folding tables, power chords and internet cables. Garfinkle adds, “A lot of our investors appreciate the fact that when they walk in they don’t see a glamorous setup.”

Instead of paying for hotels, the company rents a house in town for executives to stay when they visit the facility from Toronto. Most of the time it’s just Garfinkle and Budd. They are only concerned about the farm, making sure the shrimp babies they put into the system “come out the other side,” Budd said. “It took us longer than we anticipated, but we’ve figured it out.”

There’s more to figure out, though: such as how to convince Canadians en masse to spend more for a pound of shrimp. Farmed varieties from overseas can cost less than $10 while Planet Shrimp’s products retail between $30 and $42 per pound, a premium price for a premium product, Budd said.

There’s no shortage of demand — North Americans consume more than one billion pounds of shrimp a year — so there very well might be room for a premium product. Canadians spent $379 million on shrimp in the past 12 months, according to Nielsen data.

Tyler Sheddon, culinary director at Chase Hospitality Group, oversees a number of popular downtown Toronto restaurants, has been testing dishes using Planet Shrimp’s product and plans to use it for a new dish on the menu at Chase. He’s had supply issues with other local indoor aquaculture projects but he’s willing to take a bit of a risk.

He’s pushing his distributor to get him fresh shrimp from the Planet Shrimp farm, which freezes almost all its product on site.

“The texture is a bit firm,” Sheddon said. “The sweetness for me isn’t something that’s quite there.”

But the frozen product is good all the same — not like pulling spot prawns out of the trap on the B.C coast, he said, but good.

Planet Shrimp’s plan is to keep scaling the business, expanding into more of its million-square-foot warehouse. The ambition is to more than double capacity, and as the company grows, it will be able to get the price of its shrimp down.

At the end of the tour, a sales coordinator brings in a bowl of shrimp. She cooked them in a frying pan with a bit of oil in the office kitchen. Budd gives a demonstration, ripping off the shrimp’s head and peeling the rest all at once.

For his guests, it’s not so easy. Budd and Garfinkle watch, waiting for them to finish peeling the shrimp. There’s a pause as they chew. Budd, standing beside them, starts asking questions and then suggests the shrimp taste sweet and not fishy. “This is not what you’re used to.”

A Stranger Used An Intricate Web Of Lies And Deceiving Messages To Catfish A Newly Divorced Man, Making Him Fall In Love With Her And Leaving Him “Humiliated”

“I have never been so humiliated in my life.”

This is how a newly divorced dad felt after he discovered the woman he had been talking to for over a year and had planned to start a new life with didn’t actually exist.

A Canadian man, Cheyne, had his whole life turned upside-down by a woman he met on his favorite online game, Game Of War.

For a whole year, he spoke with a woman who he thought was named Lori McKinley, sharing loving messages and pictures, secrets and planning their life together.

But it was only when he contacted an organization which helps verify people’s real identities, that Cheyne came to realize the person he had fallen in love with was not who she said she was.

It’s Not Always Africans!

She sent him pictures of her family and children.

Cheyne was tricked into believing that this woman was Lori McKinley.

Though Lori wasn’t the type of woman Cheyne usually went for he found her increasingly attractive as their relationship grew.

“I was in love, but I was in love with someone who wasn’t real,” Cheyne said.

“For me, it’s like somebody died.”

His horror ordeal started in July 2016 when Cheyne was 48, newly divorced and working as a tractor driver.

He was introduced to Lori, a 33-year-old American woman, by a mutual friend in the online game and they hit it off almost immediately.

They began chatting through the game daily. This soon moved on to emailing and texting and then progressed to a regular phone conversation.

The two had such a great connection that when Lori first sent him a photo of herself he didn’t mind that she wasn’t his usual type.

She was skinny, with long brown hair, pale skin, and blue eyes. However, the more they spoke the more attractive he found her.

As their relationship progressed, the couple would exchange heartfelt text messages and emails, with Lori constantly reassuring Cheyne of how much she loved and adored him.

There were red flags that started appearing early on in their relationship, but Cheyne pushed them aside, always accepting the hasty explanations Lori gave him.

One of the first things he noticed was Lori appeared to look different in one of the photos she sent him. She explained it away as an old photo from her younger days.

It was only when his 18-year-old daughter mentioned that Lori might not be who she said she was, did he suggest that the two talk via video chat.

At first, Lori resisted, claiming her religious father who she and her daughters lived with thought video chatting was “the work of the devil”.

But one night she managed to sneak onto the computer and video call him for a few minutes. It was only enough time for Cheyne to see her face and confirm it was the woman he had been receiving pictures of. That was more than enough for him and made it easier to push aside the other strange events that came after.

She even went as far as telling him she had flights booked for her and her children.

The messages became more heartfelt the longer they spoke.

Lori constantly reminded Cheyne of how much he meant to her.

Despite the setbacks, Lori kept insisting that she was excited to meet him

He admits now that he was lonely and Lori was one of the few people he felt he could talk to, which led to him wanting to believe her.

“I was struggling with being alone again after separation and divorce,” he said.

“I was isolated and Lori was the only person I had in my corner at this point in my life.”

It was after the two set a date to meet that Cheyne’s suspicions started to creep back in.

Just as they were planning to see each other, Lori had to have emergency surgery to remove cancer cells in her uterus.

So they set a later date but then she found out the doctor had nicked her bladder during the surgery and had to have it rectified.

They continued to set dates and things continued to happen that meant Lori couldn’t go, including being assaulted by her violent ex, her father having two strokes, her grandmother dying, her sister attempting suicide, and having to go to court with her ex but having the date pushed back because his dad had a heart attack.

“It was all part and parcel of the web of deception she was weaving and how caught up in it I had become,” Cheyne said.

Throughout all of this Lori continued to tell Cheyne she was in the process of getting everything sorted so she could move in with him.

He wanted to believe her but her lies had become too much and he contacted Social Catfish, which is when he found out the devastating truth a full year after they had met.

Her name was not Lori McKinley and she was not 33. Her real name was Laurie, she was 42, overweight and feeling bad about herself.

The images that she had been sending Cheyne were of her 23-year-old daughter Leigha.

When Cheyne confronted both the women via video chat all Leigha said to him was “get the f**k over it”.

“Nobody has ever taken my emotions on such a ride before,” he told news.com.au.

“I will never again make this mistake as it has cost me months and months, a full year of emotional investment.”

Confused, hurt and still in love with the woman Laurie had made up, he continued to speak with her for a time but eventually, he realized that he had to let go of Lori McKinley.

He cut all contact with her and, while it was painful at first he has started to meet other people.

“I stopped talking to her without notice. It’s been six months now,” Cheyne said.

“I have started dating in the real world and I am dating and meeting real people, face-to-face, eye-to-eye.”

Even though it is a cliche, Cheyne’s advice is that if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is.

“If the stories seem over the top and don’t add up, those are red flags. Trust your intuition and get out as soon as possible.”

My car is old. Its a 95 Neon and it was backed into this weekend. We got one estimate of 2600 but that is more than the car cost. If we go thru the insurance company and they total the car will they keep the car or let us keep it. It still runs fine.
