Oh. Hello there! 

Let me introduce us. We’re Corey & Phillip Kaplan from Pittsburgh, PA, and we’re beginning our exciting journey of planning, building and living in a tiny house on wheels! Yeah, we’re doing it... we’re finally making it a reality.

It’s been one of those things that we’ve dreamed of for years, and with everything going on (you know... the pandemic), we’re so ready to jump in and manifest these goals of ours. Life is short.

We want to document the unfolding of this process, to share progress with our family + friends, show the reality behind what goes into going tiny and, hopefully, inspire others to go for it! 

We look forward to meeting new people, collaborating with friends and family on the build, sharing our progress, and, one day, waking up in our Little Drifter.

Talk about non-stop adventures...🙈😂🔥 Tonight we had a mini fire pop up! It was on a cable that plugs our RV into the house we’re staying near. It was also raining, so we realized the rain actually CAUSED the fire. But luckily- it was also the thing to put it out. - It just doesn’t get any crazier than this😂🙈 Tonight I found myself simply laughing at all the madness of things that have gone wrong while being here in VA... because there’s honestly nothing else to do. It’s either cry about it or laugh. And since I’ve done most of the crying already- I figured it was time to laugh.😅 - We knew we’d run into issues on our travels, but nobody can prepare you for how it feels to have your entire (tiny) home feel like it’s blowing up at times.🤯 Nothing else tests you, like being in control of absolutely nothing. When a home is supposed to be your safe space & ours is one we’ve put so much heart & time & work into, it hurts a bit when SO many things go wrong at once.😞 - But like I said, it all goes back to that choice we have. To either keep crying & complaining. Day 1 to Minimalism

You have to start somewhere right?

The next few days are going to be the beginnings of my "Digital Cleansing". I completely understand that this whole minimalism concept is a process, a journey. So I will start small and manageable and take on my phone first.

Option #2 has arrived at Dad's shop! We're going over it today. It is a much better shell than the first one we saw and at 4.5k is much cheaper BUT more work is involved for sure. . As an old chevy Snap-On truck, this one is a bit nostalgic for me. Growing up a mechanic's daughter meant many hours at the shop. Seeing the "tootsie roll man" aka the tool truck was a highlight of the week. Dad got new tools, my sisters and I got candy. Win win! . So some features of this one are that it also has a lift gate, is wired and has a few outlets already. It has the best metal wall ever to hang plants on 😲😍🌱 and plenty of room for the dogs! . The main thing with this one is that it runs well. The goal today is to ensure it is mechanically sound. It's a gas engine with 80k miles but it has been sitting for a little while. We have found small things so far that we can fix. My latest creation: A dream catcher because my dreams🌟 for a zero waste world are holding strong! 🌿 It's 100% compostable. Made out of twig, a worn out sheet, foraged feathers🦅 and shells🐚. 🌿 Confinement is a great opportunity to explore one's creativity (and keep the kids occupied!), but in a zero waste home, the end of life of the product created is just as important as the materials used. For example glueing a branch on a can, turns a compostable item (wood) and a recyclable one (metal) into something that is no longer recyclable♻ or compostable🍂. 🌿 Zero Waste Home📖 has a whole chapter on this, including a recipe for homemade (compostable) glue, and craft projects with a purpose. 🌿 Let us know in the comments, what your household has been crafting: Maybe masks to donate😷? 🌿 If I hadn't donated my sewing machine before #goingtiny, I'd be cranking them up like my mom , right now! GUYS🙌🏽 It feels SO DANG GOOD to be organized.😅 I’ve never been the type of person that has it all together - DEFINITELY NOT type A....probably a little more type XZY?🤪 And spontaneous with a side of all over the place... so this feeling is DEFINITELY new for me😂 - But ya girl is trying to CHANGE HER WAYS. Because I know it will help me in so many other areas of life...even in my health!
