H2O Headcanon #26
I think Charlotte has naturally changing hair colors.
Anyone who took science class knows that hair colors are determined by the amount of melanin in their hair and the coloring goes down to: Age, Genetics, Hormonal changes, Melanocyte activity, and UV exposure (not to mention stress or chemical exposure).
In Red Herring, we learned that hair dye only shows up when transformed into a mermaid since rinsing is a part of the dying process. And yet Charlotte -from what we gathered has a black-haired grandmother and a blonde mother - has red hair naturally.
Why?
Well, out of all the reasons (and careful consideration of the actress herself), I think I got the hair journey down.
When she was a baby, she was born with dark hair. As she grew up to be a toddler, she might have had tuffs of blonde or her dark hair persisted until she was 6 years old (the time of Gracie's death). I'd love the idea of Charlotte being Gracie's mini-me as an HC and realistic reasons.
Fast-forwarding post-Gracie years, her hair switched from dark to light brown. Puberty also likely added to the darkening of her hair, making it a dark brown. Another possibility can also go into hair coloring is the ingredients in acne products if she had it as well as a growth spurt that might have made her the first to get so tall in her class before anyone else did.
Then we get to see her in H2O, which is where she's a redhead and it makes sense. The Gold Coast is notoriously sunny and, between moving there and wherever she lived before, the UV waves were constantly exposed to her hair - effectively "bleaching" and exposing the red undertones.
Synopsis: Charlotte Watsford is a natural dark/light brunette and exposure to UV sunlight made her hair turn red. It's likely it won't last her entire life and after her time in H2O, her brunette tones returned.

WRITTEN BY: Bri (she/her), est.
BACKGROUND / BIO
triggering / sensitive content warning: teenage pregnancy, IVF
Serena McCoy-Bardales was born in a particularly warm day in September to loving parents that were firmly upper-middle class in Yonkers, New York. For many years prior to her birth her families history was located in New York, her father inheriting a brownstone the was passed down from one family member to family member before ending up in their name. If there was one thing she knew growing up was that she was that she was incredibly lucky, she couldn’t say that her and her sibling were given everything, but they were surrounded with love, able to get a relatively normal education through high school, and growing up in New York City was just an added bonus. She got to experience different cultures, foods, people, and find the excitement of traveling the different boroughs and just seeing so much life that she was sure so many people didn’t get to experience in the younger years.
When she was eighteen she took up a job as a paralegal, thanks to some family friends who helped her work her way in, because she was sure she wanted to go to school for law. Still, her mother had said maybe working in the field would be a good idea before investing so much time and money into something, her mother had always known she had a flair for the creative side. Early into her career she fell pregnant and just merely eighteen with a man that she met at a club, it was after going out to celebrate with the bosses at a fancy posh upper west side night club, with men with money, and one thing turned into another, and a few handful of weeks later she didn’t know his name, his phone number, but she was having his baby. In 1992, she welcomed her first child, and with the help of her parents, and her job, she managed to get by. She struggled slightly being so young, but she had seen so many other younger mothers having it worse, she she didn’t complain.
Just a few short years later, she met a man who would captivate her, his personality charming, his dedication to the business unyielding, only he was one the firms biggest rivals. Which meant it was all but scandalous to even think about him. Though it seemed she had captured his thoughts as he actively persuaded her and she made him work for it, and oh did she make him really work for it, even just to get her phone number. Once he had, it was hook line and sinker. With a toddler being toted around he welcomed them into his life, without any hesitation, and after a whirlwind romance were married in 1996. Everything seemed perfect, when she admitted that law wasn’t for her, he supported her going back to school, fulfilling her dreams, becoming an editors at a local publishing house and never once looked down on her as being less then. All she wanted now was to make them their own little family unit, but she was waiting for the right time to bring up children given the case he had been working under.
The year of 1999 was the year that would both make and break Serena in so many ways. It was the year she thought they’d finally expand their family, but instead, she was serving divorce papers to her husband after an illicit affair was admitted. Packing her child up, she moved out and back home, with the support of her parents, and started to rebuild the pieces of her life. She won’t pretend that what happened between them didn’t break her in ways that could never be fully repaired, she never fully trusted a man again. After accepting a promotion to becoming a lead editor, she opted to go through with IVF and have a second child on her own, determined to prove to herself that she didn’t need the man for the family. Her parents moved out of the brownstone and moved south to Georgia where other family resided leaving it in her name, and she made a comfortable living there as she worked her way up the ranks of the publishing house.
Endless hours, missing sleep, making sure she was still a present and active mother in her children’s life, but she became ruthless in her business life and by her mid-thirties she had worked her way up to VP of the publishing house. The money was beyond more than she had ever received, but something left her unfulfilled and with clients who loved her, some workers who were unhappy, she took a chance, and a large loan on her 40th birthday and opened her own publishing house, GrandArcher, in the center of Manhattan and after the first year of struggling and figuring out all the kinks, watched it start to grow and thrive into a multimillion dollar business with several authors under her belt.
With her getting older, and having a strong team under her, she’s decided that it’s time for her to step back and be more of a face figure — though she will still be there for the big decisions — and found a cute town of Merrock and had a downtown building renovated into an office and a gorgeous house on a coast purchased, building a small satellite office for her company in the small town so she can start enjoying the more quite side of life rather than always being in the crazy throngs of New York City.

ZW 2020; Reunion
Tumblr media
So it begins.... This is a Modern/Gym AU. I swore I would never do a modern AU, but, as Edna Mode would say “and yet, here we are.” My plan for this week is to make these prompts all one story. As this is my first Modern AU of any kind, on top of my first Zutara Week, please feel free to leave all sorts of feedback. I will be adding an AO3 link in an edit in the fresh morning. I’m posting this tonight, because I have way too much crap going on in the morning tomorrow. Anyway. No more intro/distraction from my crapstorm. Here it begins.
[EDIT 1: I forgot to mention-- I aged them up realtime. This means that Zuko;Sokka are 31, Katara;Azula are 29, and Toph;Aang are 27, and all the correlating ages of the other characters accordingly. EDIT 2 will be the AO3 link, I promise.]
[EDIT 2: HERE’S the AO3 - finally. I’ve been super busy all day with a screeching toddler.]
It's the smell, Katara decides. It definitely wasn't the music - she always piped in her own mix of high-tempo, hard hitting music through her headphones. It's not the taste of the crappy tap water from their generic doctor's-office-standard water fountains. It wasn't for the sights of the people who were there.
Well, most of the people that were there. There was one or two…
No, she decided. It was entirely the smell that, no matter where in the world she landed, got her moving. A blend of sweat, rubber, and disinfectant, every gym she had ever walked into had the same smell. This realization settled over her as she entered the old gym. She had recently moved back from one of the old Earth Kingdom settlements at the coast, and was now participating in a research project with Ba Sing Se University, her old alma mater. Fortune had been on her side, however, when her old gym’s membership was reciprocal back again to one in the city.
It had been three years since she had left Ba Sing Se for Selin Harbor, fresh from the university, a master’s degree in Marine Biology in tow. Now, she had been called back due to a troubling disease emerging in the dark, mysterious waters off the coast of the city.
She had begun her workout running intervals, hopping from treadmill to resistance training to machines, and back, forcing the stress and worry of her new work out of her mind. Falling into her rhythm, time began to slip away. As was common, during her physical exertions, she felt the outside world fall away, and a single-minded focus overtook her thoughts, caught up only in the heavy beat in her ears.
Somewhere in between a few of her runs, she stepped away from the treadmill, took a pause to swallow down some more water, and turned to the next step in her pattern. She stopped suddenly. In her next station - a gym mat stocked with medicine ball and resistance bands - a fellow gym member was actively using her set up. A moment of frustration passed through her, but she swallowed it down. Instead, she moved away, trying to preoccupy herself with her next exercise, determined to come back after his set. But as she finished up and returned, she found him still in her spot, this time in between sets. Irritation pricked at her lips, but she sucked in a deep breath and plastered her best “people are oblivious” smile across her face. Pulling her headphones down, she rounded him.
“Excuse me,” she knew her voice was sickly sweet, but she didn’t care, “I hate to be that person, but…”
A glint of gold in his eyes shot towards her motions, in contrast with his light skin and dark hair. It was obvious that he was no stranger to the gym himself, and it took a moment for her to remember what she was going to protest. (About those sights at the gym…? She ascertained that he was one of those exceptions.) Swallowing down the startling nature of his side eye, she pulled her indignation back to the forefront. He still didn't turn to her fully, preferring to shoot her a glare sideways.
"But," she continued resolutely, "you're kind of interrupting my intervals. I need to use this spot before--"
"I'm not interested."
"...what?" It was only then that she noticed the white at his ears- headphones. Did this prick really think she was hitting on him? Her face turned sour, her voice rising. "Now, you listen here, you--"
He sighed, and pulled out the earbud closest to her. The music was just as loud as hers, she noticed abstractly.
"Listen, I'm not in--"
"You're in my spot!" She spat out aggressively.
It was his turn to be confused. "What?"
"My spot. You are literally in my spot. You've interrupted my intervals, but still managed to keep my blood pressure up. Congratulations."
He looks flustered for a minute, and Katara curses the spirits. The red on his cheeks only seemed to make him more striking under the iridescent lighting. She uses that disconcerting feeling to fuel more of her frustration.
"I don't see your name on this particular spot."
A bitter laugh escaped her, and she flipped the edge of the mat up.
"Ka-ta-ra." She emphasizes the syllables as she points them out, written in her tight hand, on the bottom of the mat he was perched upon.
For a second time, he flustered.
"Oh." This time, however, he quickly moved off of it, a hand to the back of his neck. "I'm- I'm sorry. Didn't realize…"
She snorted, still not done with his brand of arrogance.
"You must be pretty narcissistic," she snarls, "to think that any girl who nears you must be ‘interested’."
"It's not- I'm not-," he stutters for a moment, before regaining his composure. “Anything I say is going to make me sound like more of an asshole, isn’t it?”
A brow raised over a sea-blue eye, and he sighed.
“Sorry. I didn’t realize you were here. I just figured somebody left the equipment after they were done.”
Her frustration fizzled a little under his apology.
“Oh. Yeah, I guess I could see how you would think that.” Her eyes scanned the free weight area, strewn with discarded equipment like dirty tissues.
Sighing, she deflated. Blue eyes looked up at him, finally catching a honest look at the man she was unexpectedly not as frustrated with. His dark hair was cut relatively close, seemingly unaware of any attempt to tame it’s aggressive angles. Amber eyes followed her motions, one of them wrapped in an old, angry scar that ran back into his sideburn, hairline, finishing on the other side of his ear. Dressed for the gym, she was able to appreciate his evident focus on lean versus bulk. And appreciate, she did. She dropped her eyes again, reminding herself of his protest when she first approached him. Jet had been enough of a narcissistic asshole for her lifetime. She didn’t need a new one.
But he had apologized and did seem properly chastised. Looking around, she noticed that there was no other open spaces for him to work in.
“Listen, I don’t mind you using it. Just- just let me run my sets? Not, like, sit here in between them?”
“Really?” a small smile pulled at one corner of his lips. He seemed genuinely surprised. “Thanks.”
She waved it off, keeping her head down, as she took over the space, and he moved on to another machine.
An hour later, she wrapped up her mat, replaced the equipment, and moved towards the door. He was on the treadmill near the door, and as she passed him, she nodded. A small smile pulled at his lips and he returned the expression.
Buzzing filled her pocket, and she glanced at her phone.
Toph.
“Hey, Sugar Queen, we still on for tonight?”
***
He was a bit breathless. It was hard to tell if it was from having been sick for the week prior and thereby out of practice, or if it was the brilliant blue eyes of the woman slipping out the door. She had nodded at him, and a glimmer of hope clung to him. Maybe he hadn’t completely screwed up that interaction.
“Yeah, we are. I’m excited! We going to meet at--?” her voice was clear, since he had kept one earbud out since they had first crossed paths. Incredulousness laced her words. “You’re picking me up? I’m hoping you’re not the one driving…”
Her voice faded away, and he couldn’t help the smile that stayed on his face, even as he replaced the second earbud and continued his workout.
***
“So where is it we’re heading?” Katara glanced at her passenger in the front seat, but the young woman’s eyes were unfocused and hazy as she stared blankly ahead. When she spoke, however, her tone belied her strength.
“I already told you, Kat-uh.” Her emphasis merely snapped the blue-eyed girl’s dark brows together, but she continued. “It’s an old friend of mine- he’s playing at some small bar. The one we used to go to on Thursdays when we were all in college together.”
“I’m guessing he’s a new addition to the line up?”
“Nah.” A smirk pulled at her lips. “I just never found a reason to go see him before.”
“Thats… sweet, Toph.”
“I know. So considerate, right?”
A sigh escaped the older woman’s lips. “At least tell me if it’s on the milder scale for your music?”
Toph wasn’t known for having the most laid back choices in music. Her worries were slightly alleviated when the blind girl scoffed loudly.
“No, he’s more your speed. Likes some of the heavier music, though, but only plays the nicer stuff.”
“So, covers?”
Her head cocked to the side. “Maybe one or two. From what I hear, his original music is actually starting to get popular.”
As she pulled into the parking lot, Katara bit back a groan. Had it always been this busy? She found herself asking Toph that. For the asking, all she received was a head shake back.
“Nah, but we also came on Thursdays. Fridays are a whole other beast. And besides, I told you he’s getting more popular.”
Suddenly regretting her decision to come out that night, Katara turned the car off, but only started to move to get out of it when she spotted Sokka and Suki waving frantically after her. They had arrived earlier, and together. As she reached them, Katara sighed, and Sokka wrapped the arm he didn’t have around his girlfriend, to pull his baby sister closer.
“You’ll have fun, Katuh. I know it’s stupid busy, but it’s going to be fun. Just, ya know, relax. Have a drink. Listen to decent music.”
As the doors slipped open, her eyes suddenly grew wide as she instantly recognized the chords. Katara slipped away from her brother’s arm. The words to the songs were already on her lips, and she was surprised to find that she knew this band. She wasn’t one to obsess over the musicians, but their music was a whole other thing. They were an indie band, unknown, unrecognized, so she had never expected to come across them live. Despite her desire to bob and weave to see and get closer to the stage, it seemed like the crowd pushed in on them more, and she was impeded. A shot of disappointment shot through her as the music died off, and the drummer announced a break. Turning back to her friends, she dejectedly joined them.
“Oh Katara, don’t get so down.” Toph smirked, propping her dirty sandals up onto the table. “You know that was their first set. Besides, the lead singer is coming this way as we speak.”
Blue eyes rolled hard into her skull, and she let out a scoff. “Toph, you know I don’t care about the musicians. I just love their music.”
“Uh-huh. Well, we’ll test that theory right now. He’s headed this way”
“Your friend?” Sokka asked.
Toph nodded in response.
Katara turned in time to see a dark head dip and weave through the crowd, along with flashes of a dark button up, sleeves rolled up, and fitted jeans. However, when he finally slipped out of the crowd to join them at the high top they had claimed, it took all of her willpower to bite back the laugh that threatened to escape.
“Hey Toph.” His voice had an interesting grate, she had to admit, but she wasn’t sure she was quite over the way they had been introduced before. But if that was anywhere on his mind at the moment, he was good at not showing it. Instead, he followed the line of their friends as Toph introduced them. When it wrapped around to her, the closest to them both, she found herself sitting straight.
“And this is Ka--”
“We’ve actually already met.”
A cocked head told her of confusion, and his eyes scanned her for a moment. Something like a glimmer of recognition started to blossom in the gold of his eyes. With a motion that was more abrupt, she gathered up her loose curls and pulled them back, as if to put them up into a ponytail. His eyes widened. It was impressive the difference a hairstyle could have on recognition.
“Oh. Yeah. Hey again. It was… Katara, was it?”
“You never did give me your name, you know.”

Hearth 1: Zomith
She felt the sweat on her brow as she hammered away on the breastplate. The workshop was sweltering with both the active forge and the coastal humidity that often visited the city of Wayland which sat on the southern coast of the continent. The family business had been booming ever since her mom joined up with a caravan headed for the city of Turley a couple months back, so she had taken some time off from her guard duties to help her dad and younger siblings keep up. Zomith stretched the tight muscles in her back while she reminisced. The workshop smelled of fire and oil, leather and steel, the smells of her childhood… well that and the dirt in the small yard they had where her mother trained her. She was honestly glad that she was six years older than Iza because her parents realized that having a toddler able to wonder around hot metal and sharp weapons wasn’t a great idea. Her jade skin still had plenty of burns from her early misadventures. It certainly helped her learn quickly to always assume metal was hot in the workshop until you prove otherwise. The day was winding down and the sunset filtered through the doors of the workshop, highlighting the neatly organized racks of tools, drafting benches, and three anvils. Zomith tapped a nail against one of her tusks while she considered if it would be worth it to finish the piece tonight or not, especially because the client wouldn’t even be by to pick it up for a couple days, and once she started on the filigree, she wouldn’t be able to stop until it was done. The smell of a spicy fish stew cut through the fumes of the shop.
“Zomy! Time for dinner!”
Her dad had been calling her that for as long as she could remember. He was a large human with rosy cheeks and lots of muscle hiding under a layer of fat. He was also the main cook in the family, with a bevy of family recipes that ranged from light desserts to hearty stews that could fuel an army. He always had just the meal after a long day of getting her ass kicked by mom. She grabbed one of the spare towels they kept by the door and wiped off the sweat before tying her hair back up in a small bun. The cacophony from the kitchen was nothing compared to that of the forge, even so she still braced herself for the wall of sound. The kitchen was filled with both the din of shouted conversation and the wondrous smell of stew, rice, and grilled peaches. Her spot at the table already had a large portion, and all five of her siblings shouted in greeting. That was all the warning she had before she was ambushed by a swarm of the gremlins, each one latched onto a different limb, but she stood tall against the mass of sibling. Her dad’s belly laugh boomed through the home, shortly followed by squeals and laughter of his children.

Ngaiire really embraced the concept of self-care during the pandemic. ‘I pretty much live and breathe my work. But then COVID hit, and I started to see the value of creating little nooks around the house, to read in and be still,’ she says. This corner is one of them. Photo – Alisha Gore for The Design Files.

‘Every day I worry, “Am I doing too much work and (giving) too much energy for my music and not enough with him?” The balancing can be agonising!’ says Ngaiire. Photo – Alisha Gore for The Design Files.

Like mother, like son! Photo – Alisha Gore for The Design Files.
Life has tried to pull Ngaiire under on multiple occasions. At three-years-old she was diagnosed with cancer of her adrenal glands. She’s spoken about the friends she made on the oncology ward, and sung for the ones she lost. At age 12, in her homeland of Papua New Guinea, Ngaiire survived a volcanic eruption that covered her house in ash and separated her from her mother for several months.
‘Aren’t you supposed to be dead?’
The question was asked by her nephew in a dream that would become the basis for her song ‘Once’ (track two on her hit 2016 album Blastoma). In the music video, Ngaiire travels through the carriages of a moving train, each one representing a chapter of her life. In some she’s being pulled at, stripped, hospital-gowned. In others she is fluid, in charge and perfectly synchronised.
She’s risen from the ashes again and again, caped in fuchsia and gold.
This is an edited and condensed version of our conversation, which wasn’t so much about where she’s been, but where she is now, safe in the home she built from the rubble.
Can you please tell me everything about this outfit?
When I found out Nadav and I would be doing this shoot, I died. I’m a lowkey hard out nerd for design and architecture. I’ll sadly admit that Design Files is probably one of my top 3 most visited IGs daily. I’m OBSESSED.
When I got the news, I immediately sketched up two outfits for Nadav and I, went to Spotlight to get some fabric, then commissioned my mother (who is currently living with us) to sew them. Mum’s been [making my clothes] for decades, so it wasn’t our first rodeo. It helped that she’d already set up a mini sewing factory downstairs for our little toddler clothing label, Dovey Nero, which we’ve been slowly building and taking our time testing the market with. What Dovey is wearing is a little taste of what we’re currently working on.
What’s it like sharing so much of your story in your music?
Being a singer, my whole instrument is very much connected to how I’m feeling and what might’ve happened to me that morning or that week. When you’re working in an office, you’re expected to leave your personal issues at the door. But when it comes to music, it’s about finding that balance, and utilising your emotional backlog to tell a story. The wonder of songwriting is that your story becomes someone else’s anchor, or road map, to joy, relief or even salvation.
How do you manage all of that emotional expense? Are you drained AF?
I don’t know how I manage it. It can be really taxing, especially being a mama. I have a three-year-old, which can be a lot, both physically and emotionally. Every day I worry, am I doing too much work and (giving) too much energy for my music and not enough with him? The balancing can be agonising!
How do you get out of the working parent guilt loop? Is there something you do that’s just yours?
I pretty much live and breathe my work. But then COVID hit, and I started to see the value of creating little nooks around the house, to read in and be still. It takes me forever to get through a book these days, but if I can just steal 5-10 minutes, read some literature, even just look out the window at the bush we live behind. The concept of self-care is something I’ve definitely come to understand more during the pandemic.
How does the parenting load get divided in your house?
My husband’s carrying a lot of the load right now. He’s a designer by trade and his workload varies. It’s amazing that it’s worked out the way it has, with me having such a big work year ahead. He’s doing most of the parenting while I release this album.
In terms of what daycare days look like, I mean, we always swear to wake up earlier to drop Nadav and start our work days, but it’s really hard sometimes. Especially if he wakes up a few times at night and you just want to doze that little bit longer!
How does motherhood compare to your expectations of it?
It met ZERO of my expectations! In fact it surpassed any idea I possibly had of how hard, but also how rewarding and life-altering it would be. It elevated the respect I had for myself as someone who was (able) to bring life into the world.
Being a sickly child, my chances of getting pregnant were considered low. I never imagined that despite how traumatic my birthing story was, the miracle of becoming a mother literally plugged me into a creative life source I never knew I could access. (It) felt like a tap had been turned on, and the parameters of my creativity broadened.
The irony of having your motivation to create triple (while) having your energy levels completely diminished at the same time can feel like a cruel joke!
How does Nadav respond to your music?
Singing is a deeply spiritual thing for me. It connects me to something that not a lot of people have access to, and we as artists kind of become the conduits for that for our audience.
The times Dovey has seen me sing he gets very still, which is great, because he’s never that still unless he’s asleep! It’s like he understands something special is happening.  I have no idea what he’s taking in, but based on what I get from music, I can only assume he’s taking on a multitude of information. Maybe on some level he’s understanding how the world works. How to relate to people, and how deep that connection can be.
What messages do you hope a grown up Nadav will take from your songs?
I want him to grow up feeling like he can do anything he wants to do in this life, whether it’s music or something else completely opposite. I hope he always stays in touch with that reverence for music and that he knows that he is very privileged to be able to ingest it in a way that not a lot of kids are afforded. I hope he also still feels like I’m around for him through my songs even when I’ve passed on. And that I did the best I could despite my challenges so he (could) too.
Did you find that deeper level through music or did you already know about it and that’s what led you to music?
Before I’d hit 12 or 13, I’d been through so many huge life traumas. I had cancer, and my family lost their property and all their belongings to a major volcanic eruption. We were living in the bush, separated from my Mum for a fair while. She was looking for us frantically, but couldn’t contact us because everything was down, the phone lines, everything. She reached us through emergency announcements over AM radio, which a relative luckily caught (wind) of. The organisation she’d been working for chartered a plane, which landed in a nearby clearing and zipped us out of there to the mainland. Shortly after that, my mother found herself in an abusive second marriage, which was pretty traumatising for us, but 100% more so for her.
At that point in my life, I found solace in Mum’s CD collection. I’d listen to Mariah Carey on repeat, memorising every word from inside the cassette cover, and anything else (from) Bob Marley to Deep Forest (laughs). When we moved to Australia, I took up music at school. I sang ‘Fallin’ by Alicia Keys in front of the school assembly, (which) was a big moment. From that point, I understood I had something that affected people a certain way, beyond the noises that came out of my mouth. I knew I had to continue chasing music.
What can we expect from your upcoming album? What does it represent for you?
It’s an actual journey, not in a cliché way, but in that every song on it serves as an integral part of the sonic trajectory. You appreciate each song more if you hear them in context of the whole body of work, and I think that’s the beauty of what Jack Grace (my co-producer) and I are good at doing as a team – making music that breathes as a complete organism as it does individually.
The album represents a whole life cycle for me. I started the album off the back of touring the last one (Blastoma) – before I got hitched and before I got knocked up (laughs). It was an attempt to present my Papua New Guinean heritage in a new light, so that I could feel more understood within my industry – something I never fully felt. Little did I know that the whole process, 4 years on, would propel me through a maze of re-discovery of who I really am and who I want to be. I care less about what people think a Papua New Guinean woman should be within an western context now then when I first started this project, because that’s everyone else’s problem. This record has become a celebratory affair of my love for PNG, people and myself. And at the end of the day, that’s what motivates people to make the decisions (throughout) their lives.
FAMILY FAVOURITES
Favourite cafe?
Like Minds in Avoca
Weekend away?
It hadn’t really been a thing for us. We used to have accidental getaways through my work. So before COVID hit, we’d all get to hang out interstate if I had shows. Now we bush walk in places like Maitland Bay or the Pink Caves up the coast.
Rainy day activity?
We raised a lot of seedlings during lockdown to plant in the garden. Dovey got really good at planting seeds inside, where it’s prime seedling growing heat. He’s seen a full year of crops already, which is pretty cool.
Most played song?
Until recently it was Harry Styles, ‘Adore You’. Dovey requested it ALL. THE. TIME. But now it’s moved to ‘Boogie Wonderland’ by Earth, Wind & Fire.
Sunday morning ritual?
Not so much Sundays. Fridays are really our thing, when we do Shabbat. It’s the moment we get to bookend the week together, unplug, drink some wine, eat. Dovey helps to bake the challah. He’s getting pretty good at plaiting it!
New music by Ngaiire is coming in May. Her current tour dates are: May 28th at Corner Hotel in Melbourne; June 5th at The Zo in Brisbane; and June 12th at Factory Theatre in Sydney. Tickets can be booked here.

Rest Assured And Enrol Your Child In A Early Education Centre
This is very true! When childrens are playing their defence is down and they play whole heartedly. Then why not interconnect the playing with learning. At an early age children's brains are on high speed development. They catch everything fast and their curiosity for everything new they see around them lets them explore more. Early childhood education centres develop an atmosphere of the same age group toddlers which stimulates them to play and learn.
Early education centres provide children with preschool experiences. Parents also feel comfortable leaving their children with them for a short period of time in these facilities because they provide a stable, secure, and relaxed environment. Early schools tend to generate interests of children in arts, sports, drawing, crafts, storytelling, etc. Different activities executed in childcare centres will support your toddlers' development with fun. Here are some points that clears more how early education centres are beneficial for your child:
1. It's the first time the child has been away from home and family, even if it's only a short time. Through this, the child develops coping skills and prepares for a future without home and family.
2.Helps children in developing social skills and learning to adjust in a new atmosphere.
3.Experience new things like music, dance, books, craft, and many more.
4.Different activities conducted in centres develop team building, decision making, group coordination, sharing, etc.
5.Toddlers learn to respect and take instruction from adults other than parents.
6.Child care centres open the interest level opportunities for all.
7.Some children might suffer from stranger anxiety. Opening up in childcare centres with the same age group toddlers help them fight with it.
8.If you are a working parent, you can also concentrate on your work along with your child’s early development.
Playgroups are excellent places for folks of all kinds of home situations. If there are multiple children running around together and playing, they will learn multiple things. Indulge in a group activity that is fun loving and teaches something. Enroll your child in the best childcare centre in Gold coast, so you can rest assured with their development.

All You Need To Know About Children Piercing
Piercing is taking place since generation for the sake of tradition or just a matter of choice. Some do it when they are an adult; some has it from childhood for the purpose ofculture. Both boys and girls have pierced their ear when they are children by their family member.
There is some important factor when doing a piercing to your children such as right age, method, and aftercare. There are many renowned parlours that provide children's ear piercing gold coast or some other place at best affordable prices.
Tumblr media
The Right Age :
The best time to do it can be very subjective as it varies from person to person. It is best to avoid piercing when your child is an infant. Toddler’s tissues are not fully matured so it is a possibility that it can harm your baby's ear. Infants are also fragile to infection,so it is best not to do it at that point of time.  The best time to get a piercing is when your children reach the age of 9 or 10.
Method :
There are two types of techniques used in piercing- one is piercing gun,and the other is the traditional needle. Nowadays most of the tattoo parlours use a mechanised gun with the sterilised needle in it. Another process is piercing with a disinfected surgical needle which is more sanitised than the gun. Piercing mainly done at both ears at the same time as no child would like to come back again for another piercing.Piercing gold coast and in some other areas of the globe is taking care of this matter, and they are providing their best service.
Best Material :
It is best to use stainless still earrings as they do not contain any alloy that can cause allergy. For that reason, it is best and safe to choose surgical steel jewellery. There are also titanium, platinum and gold earring available in the market. Please try to avoid using white gold jewellery as it contains alloy which can cause infection. Before choosing an ornament for your child, you may consult with a doctor, and he can recommend which material to buy.
Tumblr media
Aftercare :
• Use saline water solution to clean the area • Keep your child away from touching his ear all the time • Clean your hand before cleaning your kid’s piercing • Use antibacterial soap for cleaning the area • Do not use any product that can cause irritation
Infection :
Without maintaining proper precaution measures, the place of piercing can get infected. If there is any occurrence of redness or swelling in the area, you must consult a doctor.  Sometimes an infection can cause itching and pain. In this case, the earing must be removed, and the area should be cleaned.
After doing a piercing, it is best to avoid extreme physical activity. Swimming must also be avoided this time as germs in water can infect it.  Piercing makes the children happy too as it adds an extra fashion statement to their image.

Destinations of Labrador Queensland Things to see and perform in that area
Situated north of Southport and southern of Biggera Waters, Labrador is a location renowned for its tranquil waters, serene yards and gorgeous views of South Stradbroke Island. Labrador comes from the Gold Coast suburban area of Queensland. It lies concerning 64 kilometres from the capital city of Brisbane and has a location of 4,996 square kilometers. The complying with are a few of the places and activities that you can do while you remain in Labrador.
1. Harley Park
Harley Park is one of the greatest parks on the Gold Coast. The park supplies sights of Magical Broadwater, a great ship themed kids's play ground and lots of dubious picnic tables. As a result of its very enjoyable centers, this makes Harley Park one of the most prominent park for residents. Do not forget to bring an outing rug and loosen up under the color trees in this park. Here you will find 2 play areas. Initially, a marine-themed play ground to the south and the second is a play area motivated by climbing with poles, ropes, stairways, and flying fox. Kids will have the ability to appreciate playing in the park with 2 different alternatives. Harley Park is a family recreation area that gives fun and tasks for all ages. Enjoy the beautiful Gold Coast outside weather condition!
2. Gold Coast Hockey Centre
The Gold Coast Hockey Center offers first-rate Hockey centers for the Gold Coast and Queensland Hockey neighborhoods. The rebuilding of the location was intentionally created to fulfill the assimilation of elite and area use by providing new and extra improved framework. 3. Pelican Feeding
Feeding pelicans at Labrador is an interesting experience to connect with nature. You are recommended to get here a little early to see thousands of pelicans entering throughout the Ian Dipple Lagoon that then make the landing behind Charis Seafoods. Make sure not to obstruct the sand area to the beach due to the fact that it is a pelican landing pad. Usually, site visitors will be guided to stand in U-shape along the road at the rear of the shop and on the sides and keep the shoreline clean. Hundreds of pelicans will show up and they will require area to gather and mingle with their various other buddies. Pelicans are really large birds if you meet up close. The flutter of pelican wings can be a little terrifying for toddlers, so make certain to keep your distance to make room for the bird. You can likewise take a walk on the sand and take excellent images.

A Star Is Born: Maybe It's Time to Let the Old [Maps] Die
Tumblr media
This post contains mostly no spoilers, unless you consider *general geography* a spoiler which, fine, but we all took third and seventh grade...
HAAAAaaahhhhOOOOHHhhhaaaaAAAHHHOhaaaHAAA-IIIIIIII have now seen A Star Is Born and I am here to confirm what you already know: the hype is real. Come for the melodrama; stay for Lady Gaga's incredible face that Bradley Cooper's camera simply cannot stay away from — except for all the times when he puts the camera on his own face, which is also incredible in all its bronzed, gin-sweat glory, and also an inspiring muse, even if you didn't know Bradley Cooper was the star you were coming to see Bradley Cooper birth.
I do not mean to undermine Lady Gaga's performance. She's...so good. And in such an unexpected way, as perfectly showcased when Ally first sings "Shallow" onstage, and you're sitting there thinking that song has already been normalized for you because of its iconic rollout in the trailer, but halfway through trying to wipe the butter off your hands so that you can wipe the tears off your face, you realize what's most iconic of all is the fear and vulnerability with which Lady Gaga is able to color Ally's first time singing in front of an arena, even though Lady Gaga herself has straight up body-surfed at the Super Bowl halftime show, like, six times.
youtube
Ally is definitely the star that is born in the first act, but then in the second act, she's just kind of…a self-assured toddler who is already very comfortable being a star? That's when the focus turns to Jackson Maine, who is very uncomfortable with his life as a star, or at least needs to snort a large caterpillar's worth of cocaine to get comfortable with it.
And that works too, I guess! Cooper’s is excellently crafted man pain, and I've heard it has made more than a few men cry many man tears. I myself cried enough man tears that I felt very relieved I hadn't worn makeup, and upon entering the restroom, realized while I had not intentionally worn makeup, I had done a real half-ass job of taking off some former makeup, as evidenced by my eyes looking like Jackson Maine's after he's drunk enough whiskey to forget the death of A R T.
Oh yes, I did cry enough in those two final scenes — you know the ones — to activate some three-day old, already once removed LashBlast. Wait...am I the star that was born?
No. No, I am not. But which star this movie births is just one of its many conundrums (others have said the star is Gail, and once you know who Gail is, you know they might just be right).
The absolute best thing about A Star Is Born is how self-assured it is. In fact, Cooper’s directorial confidence that what's happening is the exact right thing to be happening… and does not need to be explained or made sense of…even when it is completely illogical, is perhaps the only thing that keeps the wheels from coming off in A Star Is Born. Like me telling anyone who tries to make me eat breakfast the unchecked fact I heard one single time three years ago that breakfast being the most important meal of the day was a marketing tactic made up by General Mills in the 1970s to sell cereal — unearned confidence will get you everywhere.
And by everywhere, I mean: your loved ones off of your back about not eating breakfast, and/or $50 million opening weekend domestic.
I don't think it would be a contrarian take, even for the film's biggest advocates, to say that almost everything about this film is technically "good" while not technically “making any sense at all." For example, why would a bunch of people who paid for a Jackson Maine concert be thrilled when he brings a lady in a t-shirt onstage to sing the encore, even if "Shallow" is a baaaaahooooohaaaahooohanger? Who cares, it gives us that incredible moment!
Further, was it...necessary to make Jackson Maine's brother a full 30 years older than him? Which came first: Sam Elliot's casting or Bradley Cooper's Sam Elliot impression? I love Sam Elliot as much as the next Bradley Cooper, but what are we doing here and why are we doing it? The answer is, of course: “Sam Elliot” and “because we can,” respectively.
Does it matter that Bradley Cooper is completely believable as in irreparable drunk with a heart of gold right up until the point when he takes his shirt off and your tongue rolls out of your mouth like a Sylvester the cat because these are not the abs of a man who hosts a DIY gin bucket in his torso every night? You can grease down his hair, sprinkle cigarette ash down his throat, and put as much Tom Ford bronzer on him as you want, but you cannot hide those abs.
Well, you could — with a shirt. A Star Is Born simply chooses not to because it knows you can live in two worlds: one where you enjoy Bradley Cooper's grizzled performance as Jackson Maine, one one where you enjoy Bradley Cooper's abs as Bradley Cooper's abs. Because this is a tried and true melodrama. We're not here for the Pythagorean theorem, we're here for: Hair. Body. Face.
youtube
We could call into question if A Star Is Born actually doesn't realize it's shitting on pop music while featuring one of the greatest virtuoso pop stars of our time, or if it's doing the much trickier thing of shitting on people who shit on pop music by making Jackson Maine such a (sympathetic) asshole that he drinks a whole bottle of backstage-SNL liquor just because Ally sings a (good) song about butts, sure…
But that's hard work. And melodramas shouldn't be mentally laborious for the audience — you come; you cry; you leave; you throw your wig at Lady Gaga slinging non-stop bops (even the ones that aren’t supposed to bop) if you feel so inclined because you had a good ass time.
youtube
There are plenty of things that don't make logical sense in A Star Is Born, but for the most part, it is so big and yet small, bold and yet subtle, emotionally manipulative and yet earnest, that you just move past the fact that sometimes Jackson Maine's brother accuses Jackson of stealing his voice even though we are at no point given any evidence that his brother was a singer of any kind. There was only one logical fallacy actually took me outside of the film while watching it:
WHERE IN THE FRESH MONTERREY HELL DO ANY OF THESE PEOPLE LIVE?
For the first, I don't know, 45 minutes of this movie, there was no doubt in my mind that Ally lived in New York. Yes, I am a pretentious east coast nightmare who assumes that everything worthwhile happens in New York, but also...Lady Gaga has a Queens accent…her dad has a Queens accent…and all of her dad's friends who hang out at their house that is very clearly in Queens have Queens accents???
Long Island would not have knocked me over with a feather. I would have even been willing to consider New Jersey. But that Ally and her father did not live a bridge or tunnel away from the Empire State Buildings was inconceivable.
Until Jackson Maine comes to Ally's house and asks if she wants to go on a motorcycle ride TO ARIZONA...
youtube
Apparently Ally actually lives within an interstate or highway (or eight, I clearly do no know how L.A. works) of the HOLLYWOOD sign??? Which begs the question: if Ally lives in L.A., why does Jackson fly her on a private jet to a concert that takes place at what is quite notably the Greek Theatre in L.A.? And further, if we're just taking private jets across cities, and motorcycles across states (or maybe countries, I’m honestly still not sure!!!), and treating the space time continuum like a recalled Stretch Armstrong, then why can't Jackson fly Ally's dad from (allegedly!!!) L.A. to Memphisfor their wedding???
Also, if Dave Chapelle lives in Memphis, where are he and Jackson childhood friends from? Arizona?? Was there some unaccounted for time in Nashville because Jackson's brother who (allegedly!!!) wanted to be a country star raised him? Does this movie think audiences just don't listen to state names??? Everyone learned a whole ass song about them in elementary school! We could sing them to you in alphabetical order, Bradley Cooper!!!
Alas, I got over it. The best thing about A Star Is Born is that it is a simple love story, told over and over. At its core, it really isn't a movie about the trials of fame, or the death of A R T or even the tragedy of substance abuse. It definitely is not a movie about the responsible narrative use of place and setting.
It's just a movie about two people doomed to fall in love, and the audience, doomed to fall further under the spell of a movie star who might also be an auteur, playing a country star; and a pop star who might also be a movie star, playing a ingenue. (And it all happened right here IN NEW YORK CITY!)
