Is The Ninth any good?
I hope you mean the Locked Tomb series by Tamsyn Muir..? 😅 if so, this is a tough question to answer objectively, because I love those books more than words can tell. it's without a doubt one of my all-time favourite series.
however, it's definitely not for everyone - the dark topic of the story aside, the worldbuilding is very elaborate to the point where it requires a great deal of attention (otherwise it gets more than confusing). the plot itself also demands the reader to concentrate due to its intricacy. many readers often complain about the pacing as well. it was not a big deal for me personally, but I'll admit that some parts can drag a bit (especially in the second book).
there is also a big cast of characters and therefore a lot of names to keep track of. this is why I always recommend the audiobook over the classic format. Moira Quirk, the audiobook narrator, is superb - she has different voices for everyone and she gives the books a lot of personality. her narration is without a doubt one of the reasons why I love the books so much.
the characters are in general really well-written, quirky and easy to fall in love with. my personal favourite is definitely Tamsyn Muir's sense of humor which is omnipresent and it lightens some of the darker things in the story. this mini-animated clip illustrates the narration and humor and overall insanity of the books nicely. note, it is from the second book but it is not really spoilery as it's impossible to really understand what's happening without the context of the book. (but it is hilarious nonetheless and it gives you an idea of what the books are like)
Tamsyn Muir keeps you guessing all the time because you never know which plot twist will come next. she is, in my personal opinion, a genius. I had never come across anything that would be written so cleverly and in such a unique way. the books are epic, devastating, unhinged, amusing, baffling and very difficult to put into words.
so, all in all, yes, the series is worth it but it is not an easy read

ALSO: I have noticed in season 1 that Ian was the one who was the most involved in medical stuff and emergencies and I love to think that being an EMT has always been a dream of his, because he loves helping people and he is clever enough to assimilate medical knowledge. Ian being a badass EMT and Mickey a security guard/gangster is really an aesthetic! Imagine Ian healing his husband after an incident.
Ian taking care of a scratched/bruised Mickey is something my dreams are made of and it happened in canon and Shameless robbed us.

Unforgettable. Unforgivable.

This is going to sound completely random but do you think Brunehaut and Fredegund would have looked positively on Alienor d'Aquitaine or Melisende of Jerusalem?
Hmmm… this is really a tough one! Joke aside, I think this is really difficult to put in the shoes of people who were by definition so different from each other, because their lives and thus the condition of their own agencies or the way they were using it were really differents. For example, Brunehilde appears as a powerful woman for a large part of her life, but this is also because she became a widow early, while in the contrary Alienor was married for nearly 40 years of her life (even if there is a small gap between her two weddings).
Besides, as the proverb says it, “there is no one more blind than he who does not wish to see”: which I mean by this, is that a lot of people tend to see or judge other than themselves, and not really see their own actions as they really are. The way Alienor acted as queen of England, and above all the way she was imprisoned by her husband would perhaps have been a matter of comments and of judgments, as people always like to think they could do better. Particularly in the case of Brunehilde and Fredegund, who both had to fight against forms of exile and imprisonment, and succeeded in that way.
So I would say that both Brunehilde and Fredegund would perhaps looked down on Alienor of Aquitaine, because in their own vision, she could have been a “loser” and a traitor to her own family. Joke’s on Brunehilde perhaps, because she also had quite skeletons in her own closet regarding how she accepted what her family wanted from her, but I think both would have been like: “Oh, this is really pitiful, honey, you missed the whole point…”
Melisende’s case is different, and perhaps more alike to both Fredegund and Brunehilde’s ones, as they experienced both regency with a child growing of age. The difference for me is that where Melisende seems to have eventually accepted her fate as retired regent, this is not the case at all for Brunehilde who constantly tried to maintained and strengthened her own position at court. Fredegund is more difficult to perceive as she died in the end of her regency, so it is tricky to assert if she was ready to let go her position as regent and let her son rule by himself, or if she would have been on the breach like Brunehilde. I would say that they would have look good on her, but perhaps Brunehilde would think she was making a mistake by retiring herself from the political scene, as the tireless regent she was…
Hope I could respond to your question!

Top 5 Harry Potter lines
‘of course it is happening inside your head, harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?’
‘tonks deserves somebody young and whole.’ ‘but she wants you.’
‘she hated him’ ‘nah, she didn’t.’
‘he couldn’t know that at this very moment, people meeting in secret all over the country were holding up their glasses and saying in hushed voices: “to harry potter - the boy who lived!”’
‘we're all human, aren't we? every human life is worth the same, and worth saving.’

Nickie, my dear! What did you think about Ever After? Was it a good book?
Laure, love! 💕 I'm so sorry for replying so late, I was taking a bit of a break from tumblr and my inbox stopped existing for me... 😅
To answer your question - yes, one hundred percent!! I usually rate books based on the amount of joy they bring me and So This Is Ever After was easily five stars. It was such a sweet and fun story to read. Even though the plot itself wasn't in any way elaborate or extremely clever, it had everything I love about romcoms. Plus magic!! It immediately drew me in and didn't let go. It was actually my absolute favourite book of last year.
Honestly, if you found the premise interesting and you're looking for something lighthearted, I dare say that the book won't let you down. 😊

Okay but imagine this: Mandy coming home telling Ian forced her and Mickey, who had been having a HUGE crush on this lanky ginger guy for ages, having a literal meltdown because his crush has supposedly had sex with his sister and he CAN'T TAKE IT and he decides to go all postal on him because that's his only way to cope.
And then he finds out it was all a lie but hey, look, boners! Let's not waste them! And Ian (I'm hijacking your idea, sorry) can't fucking believe that Mickey Milkovich, the guy he's been kind of crushing since little league, and him just banged! And he looks at Mickey wide eyed and smiling and Mickey can't help to let out a soft "fuck, you're even cuter than I thought".
(I adore the idea of them being boyfriends since their teens!!!)

Would you say there is a difference in queenship for merovingian rulers and carolingian consorts? I often find the carolingian queens quite faded into their king's background, contrary to the many queens of the Merovingian dynasty (cue Radegonde, Frédégonde, Brunehaut, Aregonde, Ingonde, Audovère, Clothilde etc...)
Yes, definitely. Now, I wouldn’t say that carolingian queens or empresses “faded”, but there is for sure a huge gap between the two dynasties and, therefore a real difference in the way consorts lived and exercized their authority.
First of all, because merovingian kings were polygamous, so they had several consorts who had a need to build a whole network of allies at court, especially when they wanted to involve in factions and politics. This is not a way to say that merovingian reginae were especially intrusive and oversteped their role as consorts, but as they were a group of multiple individuals rather a sole person, when a regina exercized a huge role at court there is reasons to think that is because she managed to climb herself above the others by her ability to gain the deep affection of the king, or to have the most efficient allies.
But the way royal consorts lived gradually changed until the imposition of monogamy around the 9th century, with a valorisation of a sole consort above all, who get married and later even get crowned with her husband. Technically they became more powerful, as they were gratified with a huge role in the palace in terms of managing the household, but it indeed gives the sensation that they were less “active”, because they became also less numerous.
Furthermore, we need also to remember that the most well-known merovingian consorts are actually famous for their extreme behavior, or what what labelized as an extreme behavior years after. For example Chlodechildis I, consort of Chlodovech I, is probably the most powerful woman until the rise of Brunehilde, and I recently made the hypothesis that the way her son Chlothacar treated his own consorts (Ingund I, Guntheuca, Aregund, Chunsina and Radegund, minus Waldrada who didn’t lived long enough as his consort to be a specific member of his harem) is probably a way to avoid the formation of a new “Chlodechildis”, as she had became out of control after becoming a widow in 511.
