No but really, love stories about middle-aged queer people (or immortal equivalents ;-) ) in which they hit the halfway through or 2/3-of-the-way-through agonising cliffhanger break-up beat, being as it is a really time-honoured part of happy-ending classic romances. And in mainstream tv shows! Mainstream tv shows aimed at a wide audience!
That’s actually bloody awesome. I mean, at the time of course it hurts like hell. But... really. For queer love to be treated as suitable for a love story? To be hitting the Emma-and-Knightley-at-Box-Hill, Darcy’s-bad-proposal, Ladislaw-leaving-Middlemarch-because-clearly-he-and-Dorothea-can’t-be-together etc. etc. bit... I grew up on sitcoms like From May to December when fall outs like this were part of the story. It’s classic, it’s standard. It’s tropey in the best way: and one of those tropes which is a hundred times more fresh and powerful for a non-cishet couple.
I mean, I don’t know. I’m 44 and British. I grew up bi and nonbinary and closeted with Section 28 (even if the teachers at my school broke the Section 28 laws All The Time, bless them <3 ). I could not have imagined stories like this with a big audience. And as a community globally we are so hard beset, things are truly terrifying, but... but this is so powerful. Aziraphale/Crowley (and Nina/Maggie; actually and also Gabriel/Beelzebub given that too is a queer relationship!). And other stories too that I haven’t seen but know are out there. :-)
So no, I don’t love Neil Gaiman or John Finnemore any less for the end of series 2. Quite the contrary. Hitting “conventional” romance tropes with queer couples in a show like this? Yes, including the romance tropes that hurt dreadfully? Oh hell yes. Thank you, Neil and John. Thank you Pterry. Thank you Michael and David and Nina and Maggie. <3
And... well, since we did ask them for a story about an angel and a demon in love... It was never going to be easy. :) <3

here is some odd stuff that i think may support loni's body swap theory let's start here. nina and maggie confront crowley, and his reaction? "but you were crying"
Tumblr media
except it was aziraphale who saw maggie crying. he told crowley she had a "pash" for nina; would he have mentioned the crying? i don't know. but it's ODD.
Tumblr media
but there's also this way crowley says "bla bla bla" to nina and maggie -- it's *ridiculously* overdone when compared to when he says it to muriel
Tumblr media
and then later when later, the metatron asks crowley if he knows him and says he was a big floating giant head. except when crowley last see the metatron?
Tumblr media
when he was in heaven with muriel, in the recording, as one of several enlarged heads on screens.
Tumblr media
but somebody else DID see the metatron last as a big floating giant head just a few years ago....
Tumblr media
well. ift hey swapped WHEN was it? i LOVE loni's fabulous theory where they posit at "no nightingales but could it have been earlier than that? so i've watched and watched and watched the last episode, and i'm thinking maybe it was when gabriel was having his flashbacks.
i am pretty certain the scene before this was them as themselves. here they are before beez gets the fly and gives it to jim. crowley's got his usual mobile face with his forehead creases and expressive mouth... and he talks to beelzebub the way he had earlier (vs how aziraphale had when he was facing hell in s1e6)
Tumblr media
this is the first shot of them after gabriel's flashbacks conclude. look at crowley's face.
Tumblr media
it stays blank for the time that gabriel recognises aziraphale, sees the angels, says "eesh" at the demons, brightens when he sees beez, and when beez tells him aziraphale took better care of him than they could've done.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
we've seen his face with the closed lips and smoother forehead before:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
also, this is subtle and it's entirely possible it only means that this scene was shot over multiple days, but check out the right edge (viewer's right, a's left) of aziraphale's bowtie in each picture here. he's been standing fairly still, yet his tie isn't tied quite the same before the fly and after. you can see an extra stripe at the far right edge in the pic that says "true love" the collar of his jacket has moved; more of the left (our left) side of his waistcoat is visible in the 2nd pic. and again, yes, this absolutely could be different takes, probably not immediately after one another if the bowtie had to be retied. except... didn't they use pre-tied bowties this time around? is this an "everything is meant"???
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i had to look at crowley too, of course. pre-fly, immediate post fly, starting to look normal, then aziraphale gives him a shake and he looks up. there ARE subtle changes. the collar button of his shirt changes position and so does his neck noodle. it's hard to see his tattoo until he's outside (although it's clear before beez gives jim the fly), but that may just be lighting. or maybe it takes a moment to settle in? I DONT KNOW (also, beez keeps looking over at aziraphale & crowley and i want to know WHY/what they see!) and oh, have you noticed that the top of aziraphale's right ear SWIVELS when michael is threatening him with being erased fromthe book of life? it starts at teh end of 33:50 and goes into 33:51. and about 15 frames later, the metatron appears at the door. i don't have a way to make it into a gif, but here's the first and last of his ear moving. it's not him turning his head, because that wisp of hair doesn't move, nor does his lobe. just... the top. o.O
Tumblr media
and ooho, just today i noticed THIS: here's aziraphale's bowtie when he's telling crowley about the offer to go to heaven. LOOK AT THE TARTAN ON HIS TIE.
Tumblr media
previously looking at the tie as the viewer, the vertical stripe pattern of dark stripes is thin dark line, narrow gap, group of medium/dark/medium lines, widish gap, repeat. here it's med/dark/med lines, narrow gap, thin dark line, wider gap, repeat. the fabric is upside down from earlier. (and yes, again, this could be an error by costuming/continuity. but i'm hoping it means something bc everything is meant) if you haven't read loni's theory, go check it out!

Regarding Crowley - Warning: Good Omens season 1 finale and season 2 spoilers
I'm rewatching (because of course I am), and I would just like to point out that while we knew he could stop time, he stopped time and prevented SATAN from arriving, even if only temporarily. A demon prevented his master from appearing and faced seemingly no repercussions for that particular action, as if Satan had no idea it even happened. He probably could've destroyed Crowley in the blink of an eye and gone right back to Adam.
If Crowley is strong/powerful enough to even temporarily stop SATAN, what level of angel must he have been?? What level of demon must he have been at this point?? Not only can he stop time and manipulate minds/thoughts (granted, Aziraphale does plant the dream suggestion in Sister Mary Loquacious' head in S1E1), but in season/series 2, we find out that he can control and create weather and that as an angel, he created stars and galaxies and was apparently part of the group that planned gravity. Even if these are miracles, who is granting him the miracles to do these things? Correct me if I'm wrong, but we haven't seen any of the other angels or demons do any of those things. The closest I can think of is Aziraphale changing his own clothes with that of the would-be executioner in S1, and changing the color and horn of the Bentley in S2 (which Crowley can feel) and Anathema's bike in S1 after it was damaged from the collision.

warning: Good Omens series / season 2 spoilers
you have been warned
final warning okay thank you
(also Pride and Prejudice spoilers I guess if anyone still cares about that 210 years on)
·—·
they’re Pride and Prejudice, people! I’m telling you!
Aziraphale still holds onto his anti-Hell, pro-Heaven, anti-demon, pro-angel bias, his prejudice telling him that there is no “institutional problem”, that Crowley fell because he asked questions rather than because Heaven didn’t want questions asked.
Crowley refuses to let go of his pride in his identity (whether that be as one of the fallen, or as part of a side that is neither Heaven nor Hell), and go back to the Heaven that betrayed him, which he doesn’t trust not to ruin everything.
Aziraphale is Lizzy, Crowley is Darcy.
and, come on, we all know what happens in Chapter 34.
Darcy proposes to her. he talks about having tried to pretend the love is not real (“in vain I have struggled”), and asks Lizzy to marry him despite the fact that they come from two different factions who traditionally wouldn’t marry, and despite the fact that he knows she does not possess the same identity he is proud of in himself.
and Lizzy turns him down, because she’s prejudiced against Darcy’s type and this has influenced how and what she thinks about him specifically.
Darcy leaves this proposal feeling hurt, betrayed, and upset, while Lizzy is too confident that she is right in the core beliefs that influenced her decision. and they go away needing to work on themselves.
(is all of this sounding familiar?)
and then they meet again and fall in love and there’s a successful proposal etc etc.
Crowley’s pride in what he is won’t let him take Aziraphale at half quality, still part of Heaven; Aziraphale must be so exceptional as to transcend that restrictive category. an angel who would buy into that nonsense is not what Crowley stands for. he cares about people in his own, very small category: their side, which he thought included Aziraphale. those outside Crowley’s side are not to be ruining Crowley’s “precious, peaceful, fragile existence”.
meanwhile, Aziraphale’s prejudice presents him two options. either Crowley remains a demon which means he is bad, or Crowley becomes an angel again, which means he can be properly good. in the second case, Aziraphale can have him. Aziraphale can’t have Crowley if he’s bad, which he must be if he’s a demon.
there’s a subtle difference between the two.
Crowley’s tactic is more about self-preservation for his group (which would have included Aziraphale if Aziraphale’d agreed to dump Heaven for their side, just as Darcy’s remaining pride extends to protecting Lizzy when they are married (“Darcy could never receive him [Wickham] at Pemberley”)).
Aziraphale is being self-righteous for the good in the world (which he would have done for Crowley too if Crowley’d agreed to be an angel, just as Lizzy loses her shit at Darcy for not helping Wickham and all of his myriad other moral failings and then turns around and defends him once she’s convinced he’s good (“that [her dislike of him] is all to be forgot”)).
of course, this all might be an accident on the part of the writers, but then again….
Crowley and Aziraphale’s ideas to get Nina and Maggie together were sheltering from the rain, one fabulous kiss, and Pride and Prejudice.
Crowley and Aziraphale have already had their sheltering from the rain — twice, actually (at the end of the creation scene, and the end of the Eden scene). they have also had their kiss — no explanation needed.
this is their Pride and Prejudice, right down to Crowley (Darcy) protesting when a dance with Aziraphale (Lizzy) is suggested.
I could go into how Pride and Prejudice is in and of itself a Much Ado About Nothing retelling, but honestly that’s not particularly relevant, just cool. (do watch the David Tennant and Catherine Tate Much Ado, though.)
so, my hypothesis for the conclusion of a potential series 3 is as follows.
it will involve Crowley’s equivalent of “one word from you will silence me forever”: Aziraphale’s last chance to answer in the affirmative and be with him. Aziraphale will learn that Crowley is not bad simply for being a demon (I hope), and Crowley will realise Aziraphale should be let into his heart even if he wasn’t always on Crowley’s side (I hope).
Darcy / Crowley stops refusing to interact positively with anybody not in the little clique, and Lizzy / Aziraphale stops believing an entire group to be awful.
I don’t know if I have anything else coherent to say on this. something about how they have to accept the things they cannot change about the other and change the things the other cannot accept about them?
(also Gabriel could arguably be Wickham, given that Crowley tries to convince Aziraphale that Gabriel did a nasty thing and should be kept away from those he wants to keep safe but Aziraphale won’t believe Gabriel is a bad person because Gabriel isn’t one of the group he considers to be bad… I mean, it’s just their pride and their prejudice again isn’t it. whether we’re talking about Darcy, Lizzy, and Wickham, or Crowley, Aziraphale, and Gabriel.
I’m not going to follow that extension of the comparison too far, though, because I don’t think I can reasonably claim that Beelzebub is Lydia.)
concluision: I don’t care whether it’s Benedick and Beatrice, or Darcy and Lizzy, or Crowley and Aziraphale. I love all of their dynamics.
and we have amazing things to look forward to if we can convince the company to make series 3.

I'm wondering if maybe Crowley's insistence that Aziraphale can't call him nice/kind is more sinister than just not wanting to admit his scary demon persona is just a front. I mean, when you think about it, The Arrangement implies he's able to get away with performing miracles, he doesn't kill Job's goats or children and onscreen we see no consequences for these. There must have been several minutes between him saving Elspeth's life and making Aziraphale give her all his money and the scene where we see them walking through the graveyard, and as Crowley says himself, if Hell knew what he'd done they would have already come to get him. Hell is clearly not watching... but they are listening. They only come for him once Aziraphale points out he did a kind thing.
And Aziraphale does this all-the-bloody-time.

uh oh - I just realised my favourite character trope is "babe, I know you *think* you're doing the "right", "good", "selfless", "upholding the law", "preventing corruption" thing, but your inability to fully question the authority figures you devote yourself to means that you are going to have a bad, vaguely homophobic, time all the time.

seeing them being used for good omens after series 1 was emotional enough because the lyrics related but now thinking of the song lyrics after the good omens series 2 finale is like a punch in the goddamned heart

all the queen songs i noticed in good omens s2 (there may be more):
ep1: bohemian rhapsody (instrumental) in the cafe, good old fashioned lover boy in the bentley
ep3: radio gaga (instrumental) in the cafe
ep5: i’m going slightly mad (instrumental) in the cafe
ep6: the show must go on (instrumental) in the cafe
for everyone as feral as i am about the use of queen in good omens

I finished Good Omens series 2. Other than having an utterly shattered heart, I have a theory.
The Metatron doesn’t really give two hoots about having an Angel who understands earthly matters in charge. Or, maybe that’s a part of it, and maybe the Second Coming is real, but the real reason he wants Aziraphale is…
He’s realised the true implications of a demon and an Angel creating a 25 Lazeri (spelling??) miracle and, whatever Heaven is planning, knows that the only force powerful to stop them (again) is Aziraphale and Crowley as a team.
So, he offered Aziraphale the one thing he knew he couldn’t resist: the chance to make a difference. Aziraphale has to do the right thing and has to take that chance that he can change things from the inside. Whereas Crowley knows full well that it’s almost definitely a trap, or at the very least a way of controlling them, and can’t understand why Aziraphale doesn’t also see that.
The Metatron neatly created the perfect rift between them, an unfixable difference to wedge them apart, at least for now.
And the worst part is that they both need each other, and they are so much better together, and they absolutely know it, which is what makes the ending that much more heartbreaking.
I’ll just be over here crying into my phone.

Another Good Omens 2 observation
This isn’t a big spoiler but it’s still going behind a cut
We are all (rightly, so rightly) praising Michael Sheen’s acting in That Scene, but omg I want to also say a word for David Tennant’s. So much expression behind the glasses, the desperation, the adoration, the grief, the love that he still can’t put fully into words but he was trying so hard... Fuck. Watching Crowley just generally take that risk and open up his heart and let his voice shake and and and and.
It wasn’t a happy kiss, it wasn’t the kiss we ultimately want them to have by the end of s3. But my Gods it was the absolute perfect kiss for those characters in that moment and yes of course I cried but also... Damn but it gorgeous and intense and beautifully done.
Honestly the two of them both need to win all of the acting awards please. <3

I just finished watching Good Omens 2.
I am not ok.
That ending emotionally destroyed me and it was absolutely brilliant.
I don't think it was a trick or whatever the hell else I've heard people have been speculating. It was perfectly in character. Aziraphale is a stubborn idiot who desperately thinks he can fix things and genuinely believes he's doing the right thing and that Heaven will listen. Crowley has been burned before and has seen what Heaven has become in the millenia since he was cast out, he knows Aziraphale can't change it, but he can't argue with him either. It's them. And it hurts. And that's OK.
That being said, if S3 doesn't happen I will be suing for emotional damages (/j)

Gonna get this out of my system now before we start getting more info: my predictions for series 2 in whatever order I remember them
Aziraphale and Crowley are cut off from their celestial/infernal wages. Crowley loves the earth but also loves his demonic miracles and has just been using his (magic? Power? What do we call this) to get things. Since we know hell stops paying for his Mayfair place. He either moves in with aziraphale or in one of his buildings.
Aziraphale loves humans, doesn’t quite get them, but strives to do things the human way. He’s bought up a bunch of Soho and rents out some of it for low prices so he’s loved by the neighborhood. This is why in the book, the mafia sometimes tries to stick their nose in. It also means he has an income and doesn’t need his celestial wages.
Crowley either works at or owns the dirty donkey. In the script-we-shall-not-speak-of he has a nightclub, so I think there was an idea for him to have some sort of drinking establishment percolating back of gaiman’s mind
Gabriel is the angel with no memory ( I think everyone got that huge messenger hint). I hope it’s a learning story for him because in spite of his depiction in fan fiction, he’s actually pretty encouraging and supportive of aziraphale early on. In that annoying corporate way but still.
The three mini-bits will be a bible story, a story set in the 1800s perhaps involving one of them getting stuck or hiding in a pickle barrel (maybe magic? Wikipedia says John Maskelyne was born in late 1839 and we know aziraphale learned his magic from him, and Maskelyne was also a paranormal investigator so I wonder if he catches on to aziraphale’s odd nature). And third story is maybe e explaining why Crowley is known to the nazis since we know some of that cast is back.
Mrs sandwich and her girls… hmmm I am stuck on that one but I think she must run showgirls in soho from when it was red light?
Nina and Maggie are going to be mirrors for Crowley and aziraphale if they were humans with human lifespans and relationships. Nina is apparently cranky and series crowley is more acerbic than book Crowley, Maggie is very aziraphale—like with what we’ve seen of the record store and demeanor. We know it’s a soft sort of love story going on along with the mystery, and while I know a lot of fandom are pretty sure they are the love story, I think it really will be THEY are the love story, not aziraphale and Crowley. Because aziraphale and Crowley are an angel and demon and have been around forever and specifically close for 6k, so their relationship doesn’t LOOK like a human pairing. They will be them on the same side. The developing relationship between the two women will be what would have been if they were just people.
Adding to this, I think aziraphale and Crowley are going to be separated for a lot of this series, much to a lot of fan’s dismay. (Like not separated like the first book but like partners who have to tackle different tasks) I think this because 1) we see aziraphale wants to borrow the Bentley and is doing something on his own. 2) we know the rumored series 3 will reflect the TP NG ballparked idea for book 2, which as an old fandom fart, I know is the American road trip plot (which I’m sure will be updated). So they will spend more time together in 3 but I think this one will be more Crowley on his own -aziraphale on his own, but only because they are doing their own stuff, not because of any disagreement. They are more settled and on the same side etc so it’s more like some personal growth while also being together, if that makes sense. (I also think the mini-sodes will be them together for bible, aziraphale focused for 1800s and then Crowley focused).
I am absolutely not sure where serequil ( I know I spelled that wrong sorry) and stax fit in but from their descriptions I hope they interact rotfl. Muriel I think will be a bit of a mirror for very very early aziraphale. From belief.net “Muriel’s name means “God’s perfume.” Her angelic responsibility includes tending the animals and the plants of earth. She is often depicted with a crown of flowers which she lovingly places in the river of life. When she is around, you may smell the subtle scent of your favorite flower.Muriel brings messages of peace and harmony, reminding us that every selfless good deed is rewarded exponentially. Muriel’s huge heart will teach you how to love unconditionally.”
-
I may add to this post as I stumble upon things but I don’t want to change anything because I want to see how wrong or right I am! It’s not often I’m in a fandom getting new canon and I actually have time to think about it before it is released.
