Today is goshiki's birthday 🎂! So i'd to dedicate this request for him 😚 we all know he's literally one of the cutest characters in hq and is always considered the baby of shiratorizawa (i mean just look at him 😂) but it'd be hilarious if goshiki is the first of them to get married and have kids lol i'd love to see shiratorizawa's reaction when goshiki introduce his first baby and even tho they still tease him they are also just so proud of him 😭 and then they have a fight over who's the godfather (it's ushijima obviously lol)

I saw the prompt and immediately thought about a million dreams from the greatest showman.

You make a lot of promises when you are a kid. Most of those promises are forgotten and left in your fondest memories.

standing on the edge of the playground in 4th grade, watching bugs crawl over the wood chips placed in front of them is where this promise was made.

“hey, [Name]? Will you follow me when I become an astronaut?” Goshiki looked at you with a rather intense gaze for a 10 year old.

“Of course! I’ll follow you to wherever the world takes us!” You giggle at him then go back to the bugs.

that promise held true as you followed him through jr. high.

while Goshiki did not pursue becoming an astronaut, he did find volleyball. You would stay after your club had ended to walk home with him. On many nights you would end up staying on the gym with him as he drilled himself over and over again.

some nights he only left because he could see your eyes drooping, and your yawns becoming more and more frequent.

at first you couldn’t see why a sport this fast paced had enamored him, but after many late nights and you first aid kit being used more often, you finally decided to find out.

you watched hours upon hours of volleyball tapes and started to ask more questions. And to be honest you still didn’t really understand it, but you saw the way his eyes lit up when talking about it.

you saw the way that he smiled when a game component finally clicked, and the laughter that was shared between his teammates after a particularly good skirmish.

you decided that maybe you didn’t need to understand.

——— 2 years later (After losing to karasuno)———

tear tacks were still wet on his cheeks when he went looking for you. You, who was at every single game no matter where, you who was always there with a smile and a hug, and who he loved more than anything.

He found you a standing next to a water fountain, once he got your attention, you gave him a hug. He held you to his chest and shook with silent sobs.

After a while he pulled back and looked you in the eyes, and decided then and there that he didn’t want to spend another day without you.

The whole summer was spent going on dates and having fun with each other. The usual disappointment of going back to school wasn’t there, only excitement for the new volleyball season.

At the end of the volleyball season, he gave you a promise ring. He promised that wherever you took him, that he would go, as long as he got to stay with you. You kept the ring on a necklace throughout the rest of your Highschool years.

in your second year of college you got offered your dream scholarship. However you were reluctant to take it, because it meant moving to another country.

you brought it up to Goshiki and it was one of the first big fights you had.

he wanted you to take it. He felt like you had encouraged him to follow his dreams as a professional volleyball player and he wanted you to follow your dreams too.

you argued that you wanted to stay with him. That your relationship with him was more important to you than any scholarship. you eventually walked out to the balcony to get some space, and after cooling down a bit, you went back inside to find him. you sat down and tried to explain it from your point of view. He was one of the most important people in your life, and that moving away might break that connection. He explained that you had done so much for him, and that he didn’t want to hold you back from achieving something great. it was a long night. And in the end you agreed that you would take the scholarship.

the night before you left for the airport you gave him a promise ring, and took yours off of the necklace and put it onto your finger. ——— 2 years later ———

Visiting each other was hard. With Goshiki progressing into his volleyball career, and you spending most of your time doing work. but you made it work. one memorable night was when Goshiki had stayed awake long after midnight to stay on the phone with you. He was quite honestly delirious and it was mostly his subconscious talking to you.

you found it hilarious. He was filling the silence with mostly meaningless babble. It was a great background noise for your studying. eventually you got bored of studying and you turned your attention to your boyfriend asking him questions and watching him put too much effort into answering it.

eventually you remember how late it is over there. “Hey lover boy, why are you still awake?”

he blinks his eyes lazily at you before slowly responding, “I don’t ‘wanna sleep when I could be dreaming out loud with you.”

The first thing to do was call his teams manager to make sure that he could get a free day. and after a long call, and being put on hold for far too long, Goshiki would be free for the next day.

Goshiki has been doing a lot of things in the weeks leading up to your departure, one of which was to buy an actual engagement ring. He had bought this ring* right before practice. His plan was to propose to you right after you got out of the airport. Strangely enough when he went into practice his manager kept giving him knowing looks. He ignored it and kept practicing until the coaches called them over and cut practice short. Goshiki (who was rather confused) took the drive home. Tsutomu Goshiki did his best, is it even worth anything?

It's loud. And it's irritating. The voices of comparison and neglect repeat over and over and it's plaguing in his thoughts. He wishes he could ignore them, just as he's been able to before. But no matter how much he lies to himself, the truth just comes so obvious. He was solely bearing and not ignoring. And he could only bear so much until he no longer can.

He's done this multiple times yet how many more are needed for him to be recognized? Hasn't he proved himself the day he was qualified for Shiratorizawa's starting lineup? He felt so much praise that day, and he thought they would last.

Just as tomorrow comes, he's done his best, yet there was just no room for someone like him in this prestigious team's spotlight. As he thought. _________________________________________________

Another harsh day of training, the coach's yell still rings in his ears, he's exhausted yet he still craves the improvement that everyone's been nagging him about.

Just when will he reach that point? How much longer does he have to practice and train just for his serves to be consistent? How many more hours does he need to give up for improvement? you were on your way to the small diner down town to meet your best friend for lunch. you felt happy and honored he chose you to go with on his birthday nonetheless.

you had a small gift in hand. you got him a card and some small things that reminded you of him. of course, the card was written with love, words of affirmation and praise sprinkled in the writing. you know how much he enjoyed being praised and of course you meant it all. not only was he a great friend, but you couldn't stop thinking of how he'd make a better boyfriend. you entered the diner, looking around for Goshiki. you couldn't seem to find him, about to get a table in advance for you both but you felt a pair of hands on your shoulders. you looked back and saw him, immediately greeting him with a smile and a 'happy birthday'

he smiled too, a faint pink shade creeping up on his face. he thanked you as he led you to a table and waited for you to sit down before he did. you handed him his gift, waiting for him to open it. he smiled again, more blush creeping it up on his face.

you failed to notice how your hand brushed up against his when you handed him the gift, but he definitely noticed it.

"th-thank you y/n!" he said a little loudly. he got embarrassed, mostly because he thought he was being to obvious.

though it wasn't obvious for you to notice, mainly because you were embarrassed too. your crush for him spiraled out of control and only grew stronger the more you hung out with him.

you told him it was no problem as you sat waiting for him to open it. you hoped he liked it. he peered at it, about to open the bag but the waiter had came over and ruined the moment.

you were a bit startled and he seemed to notice. he apologized immediately. "it's- it's okay Tsutomu." you said, reassuring him. "do- do you like the card?" you asked- though you were sure you already knew the answer.

he nodded, seeming even more and more embarrassed. his heart was beating faster ever second. he was to flustered to even look at you now. he went back to the gift, wanting to change his mind onto something else. though when he opened it and saw some of his favorite things and even a cute plushie he seemed to go back to that flushed state. he looked at you and you were unsure what to make of his expression.

you opened your mouth to speak but he did too at the same time. "can I tell you somethign?" you asked. "CAN I TELL YOU SOMETHING?" he asked.

you laughed at how you both said it at the same time. he joined in not long after. you both said yes and laughed at how it happened again. "at this point lets just say it at the same time." you joked, not expecting him to nod.

you held your breath, nervous as hell. you nodded back. what was there to really lose? "I LIKE YOU." you both say.

it takes a minute for both of you to really register what the other had said. neither of you were sure if you just heard yourself or if it was really true.

"really?" he asked.

you nodded, smiling and he smiled back. you were about to speak but lunch had been served. you looked down at the plate in front of you then to the waiter as they left. you both broke into laughter. it was crazy how it went out and how you both seemed to be thinking the same thing.

"tendo bakes us cakes every year when our birthdays come around. we need to give him something great. especially since we'll see him in person."

ohira was right. tendo's birthday was just around the corner, and their friend needed a great present. although five former team-mates flying all the way to paris to wish him a happy birthday could be considered big enough of a surprise, shiratorizawa's alumni weren't going to stop at that. tendo's present needed to rival tendo himself in scale and colourfulness.

"i could perform a song," semi suggested eagerly, strumming on an imaginary guitar. "if my guitar doesn't get destroyed on the plane, that is. or i could bring along a ukulele."

"i have a feeling tendo would love it," shirabu approved, much less inspired to find a solution for their friend's gift. truth be told, no one on the team was nearly as enthusiastic as tendo when it came to extravagant gifts.

"great, the song will do," ohira decided contentedly. "but there's also something we need to do as a group."

"maybe..." wakatoshi spoke up, his calm, low voice immediately catching the attention of his friends. "we could bake something for him. it could make him happy that we partake in his interests."

"good idea! but can you bake, ushijima-san?" goshiki was slightly dubious, although he appeared convinced by the suggestion.

"no."

"can anyone else?" ohira looked at his former team-mates in turn, hoping for a positive response. all shook their heads, and shirabu sighed deeply.

"okay. well, this is going to be fun."

"yes." wakatoshi nodded, much to everyone's amusement. nobody could really tell whether he truly meant it or simply backed shirabu's skepticism as regards their baking skills. either way, it seemed like it had been decided - baking it was! and if everything went well, a delicious strawberry shortcake should appear at tendo's table on may 20th.

the plane landed smoothly at paris charles de gaulle airport after twelve long hours. for a professional athlete like wakatoshi, flying such distances had become common, but most of his friends had spent the first hours of the flight staring out the windows, amazed by how small tokyo grew underneath them as they went up higher, soon to be surrounded by nothing but the bright blue sky and misty white hills formed out of clouds.

they landed in paris on the following day - and first on the agenda was to get all the necessary ingredients to bake a strawberry shortcake. goshiki took care of finding a step-by-step recipe online, while wakatoshi and ohira were in charge of bribing the hotel staff into lending them cooking utensils, and a variety of pots and glasses. ohira was definitely not above using wakatoshi's fame to their advantage, and his friend quickly found himself signing autographs and taking pictures with some star-struck employees who had recognized the athelete. wakatoshi gratefully posed with everyone, and although the incorrigible uneasiness of his smile showed through all the pictures, ohira could tell that he really was doing his best. he patted his oblivious friend's shoulder with a proud smile, and both of them returned upstairs with their arms full of supplies. meanwhile, semi and shirabu returned from a local supermarket with bags brimming with strawberries, flour, chocolate, and plenty of cream. aprons were tied and whisks were drawn out—for tendou's birthday, they had to give it their all.

in the evening, paris came to life in a carnival of lights. the warm hue of lamp-posts merged with the golden headlights of cars, the streets bustled with passers-by and tourists. buzzing voices were drowned out by the occasional swooshing of cars, and vitrines glowed along the lit-up boulevards.

"i can't believe tendo gets to work here every day! somehow, it looks even fancier than in the documentary, " goshiki commented, starry-eyed, as the team approached the shop that tendo worked in. since wakatoshi had been the only one to visit their friend abroad, he steadily led the way.

"moving here sure was a crazy thing to do. but then it's tendou we're talking about," semi chuckled, shaking his head in both admiration and disbelief.

a few minutes later, they were pushing the door of the lionceau chocolate shop open, and entering a shimmering bubble of warmth and sugary scent. wakatoshi went up to the counter, clearing his throat softly.

"excuse me," he addressed the cashier in english. "could we see tendo satori? we are friends of his."

"good evening! wait... aren't you..." a small frown creased the young man's brow in spite of his polite smile. "pardon my curiosity, but aren't you ushijima wakatoshi, monsieur satori's best friend?"

"yes," wakatoshi's lips slightly curled as he remembered the documentary they had filmed in this very place. indeed, tendou and him were best friends, as the waiter rightly remembered.

"i'll go get him. thank you for paying us a visit, monsieur ushijima."

"well, isn't it nice, getting recognized like that..." ohira and semi chuckled, exchanging knowing glances.

they had always known that wakatoshi would make it to the top, but seeing it in the flesh was always particularly pleasing for the former shiratorizawa alumni. especially in a foreign country.

tendo emerged from behind a backdoor, all clad in white, and wearing his signature toque. but his cheerful exclamation was cut short as soon as he noticed the rest of his former team-mates pressed together in the hall of the shop.
