When the universe fits in your wrist

My dear @gossipchii here is the gift that I owed you and I’m sorry if my English is a little messy.

Sora is feeling confused. Probably insecure? (definitely insecure, but she doesn’t want to admit it. She would like to be over that).

She takes the wristwatch out of the box and tries it on. Is it weird to try something that is a gift for someone else? It might, but for years she’s tried Yamato’s shirts before gifting them to him so… it’s probably the same. Or similar.

She puts the box back into the gift bag and checks how the watch looks in her. It’s a little big for her; after all, it’s a man’s watch. The watchband is made of dark leather. It’s not thin nor wide, it’s a middle size. It’s not the watchband what’s making her doubt, anyway. It’s the design.

She was first drawn to it because beneath the hands of the clock there is a design in different shades of blue, with a little bit of purple, but mostly blue. She always thinks of blue as Yamato’s color, and it’s not only for his crest, it’s also his eyes, his bass, the clothes he wears… Blue is definitely Yamato’s color… and is also Gabumon’s.

She realizes that is what’s making her doubt. Does she want to gift him something that will, maybe, make him think about his lost partner?

She looks at the watch again, now through her tears. She doesn’t want to cry.

She chose the wristwatch not only for his color, also because the design made her think about the universe, the space and many things that make her think of Yamato. But it’s probably just a map, of where she doesn’t know, but it probably is and then she’d be gifting him with something that will make him think of Gabumon and nothing else and that would be just plain mean on her side.

She doesn’t want that. She takes the watch and places it back into the box and back into the bag, and resumes her walk. She could keep it and buy something else for him… but then again, what would she do with such an expensive wristwatch?

She is trying to avoid thinking about Piyomon, what she would say, how she would enjoy picking up gifts with her… she doesn’t want to cry, so she thinks about something else. And she’s back thinking about Yamato.

Sora thinks of Yamato cooking for her in their tiny apartment. She hugs him from behind while he stirs the rice. Her forehead barely reaches his shoulder blades and she likes to hide her head there, while her arms go all around him and move in sync with him, back and forth, left and right, while he mixes the food.

She thinks of sleeping together and waking up early. Laying her head into his chest, in that wide area that seems to have been made for her head, as it fits perfectly. She listens to his heart beating and she feels it’s music. She wonders how it would feel to know someone else’s heartbeat as she knows Yamato. She could recognize it anywhere (although why would you need to recognize someone’s heartbeat, anyway?).

Maybe a baby? Sora imagines mothers know their baby’s heartbeats as she knows Yamato’s, and pictures a baby girl that looks like Yamato, a baby boy with her hair color and a third baby with a heart as big as his. She imagines them with their digimon, and Gabumon and Piyomon are there. She can’t picture it otherwise.

She’s not crying anymore. Her heartbeat is back to normal. She’s not worrying about a Yamato’s gift anymore. So it’s a map instead of the space? let it be. They can figure out where it is and travel there the next time they go on holidays together.

And it’s not like that’s going to be the only gift for his birthday… she’ll buy wine, probably Takeru will be able to give her a good recommendation. She’ll cook this time, although Yamato will probably help her. They will sit on the floor, drink and eat. She’ll kiss her and he’ll kiss her back. Maybe she’ll tell him about the three babies she envisions (probably not, anyway…).

Sora’s breathing is back to normal. The gift bag doesn’t weight on her hand anymore. She’s smiling. She looks up at the sky. Yes. She’ll see Yamato tonight. All is well.

I’m back!

Kind of, I took a year hiatus and I finally came back and watched Kyosei this evening. I suppose I should write about my different opinions on the fifth OVA. But in reality I’m very confused about the ending, I’m pretty sure that 5 months later everyone knows exactly what I’m talking about.

So if you want to chat, or send an ask about it I’d love to discuss. If not I’ll do my post about the good, the bad and the ugly that Kyousei was soon.

Writing fic is awesome. There can be moments of feeling stuck, and trying to figure out how this scene should go or how that part should be worded, but being able to write out my ideas for characters I love and then being able to read them later is so comforting!

You've seen me reblog my own works over the last 6 days, but for the final day of this event, and in honor of Odaiba Day, I wanted to celebrate the works of other fanfic writers. Thanks for your patience, Anon ^^ I loved your second prompt, since it’s not often we see meaningful character interactions between the Chosen and other partner digimon.  Apologies, it’s a little rough around the edges in places.  Takes place during 02, with some not-so-subtle Sorato hints.

Piyomon flew as fast as she could, dodging the attacks from Snimon andKuwagamon by flying through gaps in the trees that were too small for the adultlevel digimon to fit through.  A whirringsound approached from her right and Piyomon barely had time to launch herspecial attack, causing the dark ring threatening her to crack and breakapart.  Unfortunately, it wasn’t the onlyone and several more dark rings slowed her progress as she took the time todestroy each one.  Kuwagamon was quicklygaining ground on her, bursting through each tree like it was nothing more thantissue paper.

Despite fatigue setting in, Piyomon continued to push ahead.  She was gaining ground again when suddenlythe forest ended.  Ahead of her, hundredsof trees had been cut down, their severed trunks littering what had once beenthe forest floor.  Piyomon stopped, herhorror at the sight causing her to forget about the pursuit behind her.

The whirring from the forest soon brought her back to the present, butwhen she tried to resume flying, Piyomon found her wings could barely carryher.  She was just able to get more thantwo metres above the ground before she plunged down again, the dark ringspeeding towards her.

Instead of cold metal from the dark ring latching itself to her,Piyomon found herself slammed against something warm.  Together they tumbled to the ground, sendingup dirt and leaves as they rolled to a stop.

Piyomon slowly opened her eyes, wondering who had managed to rescue herin time.  Intense blue eyes watched herwith concern; however, before she could process anything properly, they weremoving again.  Piyomon wrapped her wingsaround her saviour’s neck and watched over his shoulder as Kuwagamon burst outof the forest and made a wide turn until it was following them again.

“Kuwagamon’s gaining on us.”

She felt the grip around her tighten and their pace pick up a little,but it wasn’t enough to outrun the red beetle digimon.

“Watch out!”

They dove out of the way just as Kuwagamon struck.  It let out a horrifying cry of anger as dirt,moss and leaves sprayed into the air. Piyomon found herself flung along the ground, rolling a few times beforeshe finally came to a stop.  Beyond her,the ground dipped away from the forest, exposing what looked like a cave carvedbetween the tree roots.  Pushing herselfup, Piyomon dragged herself along the ground, slowly closing the distancebetween her and safety.  She didn’t makeit far before she was lifted up and once again found herself looking back ather enemy.

Kuwagamon unleashed a roar and sped towards them, opening its largepincers wide as it closed in.  Piyomonscrunched her eyes closed, unable to watch, but before the pincers crushed themthe brightness against her eyelids disappeared and the cool smell of earthreached her nose.

It was only when her back slammed against the ground a moment laterthat Piyomon opened her eyes again.  Afew rays of light made it past Kuwagamon’s pincers as they attempted to inchcloser to their prey, but the strong tree roots encased in earth were toostrong for it to break.  Light filled thecave entrance and Piyomon almost released a sigh of relief, which turnedinstead into a gasp of horror as the pincers returned, snapping open and shutin a futile effort to snatch their prey. There was a dull thud next to her as Kuwagamon repeated the process ofremoving his pincers and driving them into the cave as far as he could.  

“I was worried this cave wouldn’t be deep enough.”

The small amount of sunlight was just enough that Piyomon could makeout the blond hair framing her saviours face.

“You’re not Takeru.”

Yamato gave a sharp laugh. “Afraid not.”

“Why are you here?  Where’sGabumon?”  Piyomon looked around thecave, suddenly wondering if she had missed him in the commotion.

“Nowhere near here, unfortunately.”

Yamato’s expression looked tense as Kuwagamon disappeared again.  They waited for the pincers to return, butnothing happened.  They both watched theentrance intently, neither quite trusting that the digimon had just given up onhis prey.  But over a minute passed, andthen another, and soon the two relaxed as much as they were able.

“Sora said you sent a distress signal. Takeru and the others are on a school trip but the gate seemed openwithout them.”  He shrugged, as ifplaying down the significance of him being in the Digital World.  “I promised Sora I’d check on you.”

“How is she?”

Yamato relaxed, leaning his back against the cave wall.

“I take it you know she’s vice-captain of the girl’s tennis club?” Hestartled a little when Piyomon shook her head.

“What does that mean?”

Yamato paused for a moment, contemplating his response.  “She supports the captain – the leader oftheir club.  She’s had quite a lot todeal with lately because one of the girls wasn’t happy when she didn’t make theteam.”

“What does the team do,” Piyomon asked, moving herself closer toYamato.  

She was eager to hear more about what Sora did in her spare time.  If nothing else, it was a nice distractionfrom the digimon trying to get them from outside.  They flinched at the sound of a faraway roar,but nothing came of it.

“The best players compete against other middle schools in thearea.  Sora made the team this year,which is really amazing considering she’s not played tennis for long.  However, the girl whose place she took isolder and has been on the team since her first year.  Some of the other girls took her side andgave Sora a hard time.”

Piyomon felt a little disappointed Sora hadn’t shared this withher.  She likely thought Piyomon hadenough to worry about with the Digimon Kaiser expanding his reach, but it madePiyomon realise how little of Sora’s normal life she knew about.

“Are they still being mean to her?”

A soft smile crept onto Yamato’s lips. “I think it’s difficult for people to hate Sora once they get to knowher.  She gives every match her fulleffort, even when she’s not feeling her best. It’s something you can’t help but admire.  The girl who lost her place had stoppedturning up to practice regularly, so when the other club members saw how muchSora had improved, they gradually warmed to her.”

Piyomon felt proud as Yamato continued to regale Sora’s triumphs andsetbacks with the team and school.  Shefound herself leaning against Yamato’s arm, closing her eyes as she tried toimagine the highlights of Sora’s tennis matches as he described them.  She asked him about Sora’s family and hedescribed Sora and her mother’s deepening bond – all thanks to her.

“You should ask her to make you a strawberry tart next time youvisit.  It was delicious.”

Piyomon’s eyes lit up at the mention of food.  Her stomach rumbled and Yamato looked aroundguiltily for something to give her.  Shehad used up most of her energy trying to escape, but had forgotten her hungerat Yamato’s mention of Sora.  Suddenly, athought hit her.

“Yamato, how do you know so much about Sora’s club activities?  You don’t play tennis as well, do you?”

Yamato stiffened.  It wasdifficult to tell in the shadow of the cave, but a blush seemed to spreadacross his face.  Piyomon watched him withsome confusion, wondering what she had said to upset him.

“N-no,” he finally stammered out. “I just watched a match or two when I was free.”

Piyomon tried to ask him more questions, but Yamato’s replies becameshort and vague.  She tilted her head toone side, puzzled at the change.  She hadbeen enjoying his stories.  Piyomonwondered how to get him talking again.  Lasttime they had spoken, Sora had not talked much about her tennis – maybe it wasbecause she had still been struggling? – but she had mentioned Yamatoplayed music with others.

“Sora says you are in a band.”

“Mostly we just mess around,” he said as if that made it less impressive.  “Why? Did Sora mention something?”

Piyomon was about to reply when there was a commotion outside the cave.

“Yamato, where are you,” a young voice shouted.

“Piyomon!”

“Sora!”

Piyomon flew out of the cave in a flash, barrelling into Sora, whoreceived her with a crushing hug.  Shelaughed as Sora swung her around, clearly relieved her partner was safe.  Yamato emerged from the cave a moment later,shading his eyes from the bright sunlight. Daisuke stood nearby with a grin on his face and soon Miyako arrived,leaping off Halsemon’s back in a flourish.

“The dark towers are all taken care of. This area is back under our control,” she reported with a mock salute.

Piyomon continued to cling to Sora as Yamato asked the younger Chosen aboutSnimon and Kuwagamon.

“Sora?”

“Hmm?”

“I’m hungry.”

Sora laughed.  “I’m sure Miyakohas something you can eat.”

Piyomon sighed contentedly.

“Sora?”

“What is it Piyomon,” she asked kindly.

“Can I watch one of your tennis matches one day?”

Sora’s smile was soft.  “Ofcourse you can.”

Piyomon suddenly found herself struggling to keep her eyes open.  She watched in the distance as Yamatopolitely took a shopping bag from Miyako and made his way towards them.  He pulled out a pouch and opened it beforehanding it to Piyomon.  She hummedhappily as she drained the contents and then asked for more.

“Thank you for keeping her safe, Yamato.”

Yamato looked away.  “I didn’t domuch.”

“Yes he did,” Piyomon protested after finishing up another batch offood.  She held her wing out and happilyreceived another snack.  “One of theKaiser’s dark rings would’ve enslaved me if Yamato hadn’t pulled me out of theway in time.”

Piyomon gulped down the treat as quickly as the previous, only pausingto look between Yamato and Sora when neither replied.  She frowned, almost dropping the empty pack.

“Is something wrong?”

Both blushed and looked away from the other, insisting that everythingwas fine.  Piyomon was about to askanother question when Daisuke interrupted with a shout.

“Hey, we should get back already!”

“We’ll be right there,” Sora called back.

However, rather than setting Piyomon down, she held her partnertighter.  

“Why doesn’t she come home for the night,” Yamato suggestedsoftly.  “It would probably be good forher to rest somewhere the Kaiser can’t get her, plus she can then watch yourmatch tomorrow.”

Piyomon gasped in delight.

“But how would we get her back?”

“I’m sure Takeru or one of the others wouldn’t mind opening a gate.”

Sora bit her lip, holding Piyomon a little tighter.  She clearly wanted to take Piyomon with her,but was afraid of inconveniencing the others further after today’s events.  Before she could talk herself out of theidea, Yamato walked ahead and asked on her behalf.

“Of course!”

Piyomon buried her face in Sora’s neck at Miyako’s enthusiastic reply, gladshe would spend some time with her partner. Piyomon couldn’t stop the happiness radiating from her the rest of theevening.

She wasn’t at all surprised when Yamato showed up the next morning tocarry Piyomon to Sora’s tennis match.

FEB. 14 Favorite ship/OTP

In which I out myself as a chaotic multi-shipper and annoy half of this fandom by tagging them because everyone makes such great posts. If I mentioned your @ and you want me to remove it, please tell me so I can do it right away!

I’m insufferable when it comes to exploring all kinds of characters' interactions, and I don’t take ‘being a shipper’ very seriously. (But I do have my favorites). At this point, I’m past apologizing for not picking only one.

Under the cut, because this is a LONG post. 

♥️ I shipped Hikari and Takeru before I knew what shipping was, and that’s just how life be sometimes. The reason I started learning English outside of regular classes in school was so I could read fanfic of them as a tween. As of now, I’m more interested in them as 'strongly connected to each other and let’s have a good time figuring out the nature of that connection.’ I think they have a lot of potential as a couple. When they were kids, I think their bond was more inclined to sibling-like, especially when they were glued to Taichi and Yamato. Then, around 02 era, it changed a little, and I think Takeru fell for her (firstly in an ANNOYING, ‘protector’ kinda way, like he’s still protecting her because Taichi asked him to, zzzzzz, and then in a more genuine way), but she still saw him as her childhood best friend like-a-brother-to-me-he’s-kinda-cute-though-but-we-don’t-have-time-to-unpack-all-that-there’s-a-lot-of-shit-going-down.  AND THEN, there’s Tri., and I love their dynamic. They’re flirty buddies, they’re intimate, they tease each other and love each other, and I think Hikari is finally realizing that her feelings aren’t just friendly anymore — they haven’t been for a while now. I headcanon that the more she becomes emotionally independent of Taichi, the more she realizes that what she has with Takeru is different. They would start off as BEST-friends-with-benefits when they’re in college, like 19-21yo, for a little while because they’re hesitating to change their dynamic, and then they just say fuck it, we’re in love, let’s see where this take us. Yey! They’re THE power couple. I’ll die as Takari trash, I suppose. I’m good with that.

♥️ I REALLY LIKE MIYAKARI, THEY’RE FJFFJfucking great together. I think they balance each other very well, much better than Takeru and Hikari, and, like Takari, it’s both a romantic ship and a brotp for me. Miyako brought out a side of Hikari we had never really seen before, and it’s the first time she has a horizontal relationship with another girl. (I don’t think she’s particularly close to Mimi, and she’s definitely Sora’s little sister at heart.) It might sound weird, but I’m glad the writers allowed someone to be annoyed at Hikari. It makes the whole thing a lot more human, more believable. Most people care for her in a mostly protector sort of way and then Miyako STRAIGHT-UP SLAPS HER (don’t do this in your irl relationships kiddos) and tells her she’s always gonna be there for her, not because Hikari is weak or fragile or whatever, but because they’re equals, they help each other not to get lost in themselves, they make each other stronger and wiser. Miyako is a very anxious character and Hikari grounds her. Hikari is ALSO a very anxious character and Miyako helps her let it out. Fuck yes.

♥️ TAITO, YAMACHI, TAIMATT, call it whatever you want, I call it my heart and soul. Digimon Adventure was a Taito soap opera disguised as a toy-selling anime. And Tri. And Bokura no War Game. And Kizuna, for the trailer alone. They’re amazing but Omegamon can rest. Please.

♥️ Jyomatora, also known as “Takeru’s parents” is another powerful OT3. Don’t boo me, I’m right. 

♥️ DAIKEN!!!!!!! I could go on a rant about them, but @ladyanatui​ already did, better than I ever could. Look at this post that’s basically a Daiken reference guide and Bible.

♥️ Jyoumi makes me so, so happy. The bit in Adventure when they stay together, parted from the others...........dude..........good shit. They respect each other very much by then, and they’re very, very caring, in their own ways. Mimi’s speech in Adventure of how she refuses to engage in the war she was destined to and wants to find her own way to fight and Jyou immediately volunteering to stay behind with her is one of my favorite moments. The kid wants to be a doctor, he doesn’t want to hurt anyone. Mimi inspires him to actively choose a more peaceful option instead of just being in the middle of Yamato and Taichi’s drama, Jyou inspires her to be more level-headed without losing her spark, and together they’re one of the sweetest yet kind-of-unexpected duos I’ve ever seen. They’re good friends in Tri., which is a bit sad but also works for me just fine.

♥️ Taishiro is mostly a brotp for me, but also yay. Supportive boyfriends. They stole medicine from an abandoned fake Hospital together in one of the most emotional episodes of the series. Good content.

♥️ Kenkari is mostly a brotp for me, but also yay part 2. They obliterate the Dark Ocean’s ruler together while having the same haircut (I’m ignoring Kizuna!Ken’s hair length). Name a cuter date, I dare you.

♥️ I like Daikeru and Kenkeru basically the same amount. I love the idea of Takeru and Daisuke getting to know each other better, the idea of Daisuke losing his shit because he’s falling for his ‘rival’ and Takeru and Ken being that infuriatingly attractive couple who actually has a very deep relationship that started off as bonding over similar traumas. 

♥️ Meikari, anyone? I always hoped that, if we got something like Tri., a character that represented ‘Darkness’ would get introduced and they’d have an interesting dynamic with Hikari, because Darkness is just as important to the Universe as Light, and it would be interesting to see these two disagreeing, agreeing, being repulsed by the other and then drawn together, a ‘twilight’ sort of situation. That...didn’t happen in Tri., but the heart wants what it wants. I totally recognize it’s a fanon thing and ooc Meiko, though. I wish they had had more meaningful/complementary interactions. Their partners almost killed everyone, where’s their closure?! 

♥️ Koumi is adorable. So is Kenyako, and I can’t wait for them to interact in Kizuna!

Feb 1. First thoughts were I hope it’s not paced like tri but it looks like a fluid movie and I’m very excited for the new evolution and story.

Feb 2. I expect it’s gonna be sad! But hit a special place in our hearts like any Digimon movie does

Sorato fanfic recommendations - Romance, English

I’m clear I’ll never be able to recommend ALL OF THE AMAZING Sorato fanfics that I’ve read during my life but I guess I can recommend a few, all of them in English. If you read them, I beg you to leave the authors a review, even if very short. Small things like “Great work!” really help.

By the way, today I’m recommending fanfics with Romance, or where romance is implied (for example, it can be hurt/comfort but they like each other, etc.). I’m leaving Friendship for another day!

I’m keeping it simple: longshots have more than one chapter, one shots more than 1000 words, drabbles less than a thousand words.

Kizuna Countdown (20th Anniversary/20 Questions) #21

Freebie! Talk about something else not covered

Heeee-eey, we did it!! (minus the fact that I was zero for three on Fridays, but still). Tons of thanks to @takerusfedora and @gossipchii​ for putting it together, and everyone else for their fantastic and insightful answers, all of which I enjoyed reading! The fact that we all have so much to talk about really goes to show why this fandom is still going after 20 years. I guess if I’m going to talk about something today, it’s some of the random ideas for projects I’ve had over the years.

Most of these have fallen by the wayside because of the time, energy, and sometimes $$ that would be involved in producing them. But they’re still things I think about every once in a while-- and in some cases, the recent waves of merch actually made some of these far-out-there ideas a reality, which is incredible!!

Crest-themed jewelry. I took some jewelry-making classes in high school, and if I ever went back to it, I would totally be making some bespoke digimon pendants or charms. But amazingly enough, both Tri AND Kizuna made Digimon jewelry exist! Not that I seriously considered dropping a small fortune to own one, but cool nonetheless!!!

Or I could just run to the bead store. Anyway, there are options, and I should exercise them one of these days!!

Adventure-themed menu. This was before I knew pop-up cafes were a thing in Japan, and definitely before there were Tri cafes! So this one got fulfilled in spades. But they don’t include really expensive things like steak and starfruit, which would be my #1 must-get for a Taichi entree and a Takeru dessert, respectively. Did you know I made crest pancakes one time with color-appropriate toppings? I did!

Digimon Tea Blends. At one point, someone had actually done this (with really cute art too!), but it seems to have been taken down. It may be time for a second attempt... too bad I don’t know anything about making tea DX

Making My Own Digimon Doujinshi. I mean OBVIOUSLY that’s the dream. It would help if I actually sat down to draw shorter comics periodically, so I can’t see this realistically happening at this point ^^; I DID have an idea for a story that primarily involved Shakespeare references and Daisuke being overdramatic and thinking his sister had bewitched Taichi and Yamato to fall in love with her a la A Midsummer Night’s Dream, which I ended up drawing a LOT of concept art for back in 2011/2012. I was CONVINCED that it would make a much better comic than a fanfic, but clearly that has been stalled for years. I still kind of like the idea though. Maybe I’ll try to dig up some of my old sketches. “Alas, poor Ken-chan... I knew him, V-mon.” “Uh, Daisuke... I’m right here.” -_-;

Chosen Child Tarot cards. Once upon a time, I saw a Harry Potter-themed Major Arcana deck that was basically a collaborative fanart project, with each artist contributing a card. I always thought that would be so cool to do with Digimon! There would have to be some decisions made beforehand (like which character for which card?), but that would be part of the fun. I definitely had some thoughts and strong candidates in mind for an all-seasons deck when we only had 5 seasons, but an all-Adventure deck would be great too!

Love Letter reskin. Love Letter is a quick and easy elimination-style card game that is only played with 15 cards. The goal is to be the last one standing so you can win the favor of the princess, and there have been TONS of fan-created decks based around specific fandoms. Again, some interesting discussions to be had about which character is which card, but 8 roles + 8 original Chosen seems like you’ve got yourself a game. I was actually thinking of doing a variant based on the early Myotismon episodes, with Sora being the top card (Crest of Love Letter?). The variant would be that if the player holding the Myotismon card is the last one standing, actually nobody wins (also note that this would NOT be for sale or even general online distribution. But maybe as a one-time giveaway or a couple of packs handed out at cons? If the game sounds interesting, I really encourage you to go buy the original, it’s very fun and easy to play a couple of rounds in single sitting!).

Anyway, if anyone is interested in hearing more of my thoughts on this or has any other ideas for fan projects involving the Adventure kids, PLEASE hit me up! I am always down for discussing or contributing ideas to that kind of thing ;)

Kizuna arrived to my Third World Country™️ and I went to the cinema yesterday to watch it and cry and laugh and get this special edition ticket, which is super adorable.

This week, month, year has been HARD so this helped me feel a little bit better in the midst of chaos.
