added duck to this……. (ignore how misshapen they are idk how to draw full body) if this posts reaches 100+ notes like the last one i might add yellow guy into the mix.
thinking about this one time in 8th grade I made a slideshow for a project on why certain star wars character's were gay and it was 22 slides long and I only talked about three things
I am curious about #26 for the ask game (for any works you’ve done)
26. What's a piece that got a wildly different interpretation from what you intended?
Oh hmm. That's a hard one to answer.
I don't have any pictures of it to show unfortunately, but there was a piece I did in college -- it was a series of 6 watercolor paintings, all halving in size until the last, smallest piece. It went like:
1. Close up of mushrooms. [Smallest image]
2. Textured tree bark painted in blue/pink
3. Another detail of the mushrooms from a new angle
4. A side by side of two fir tree branches, one with male cones, and one with female cones. The mushrooms are growing across the branch.
5. A side by side of the two trees from the ground, showing the mushrooms have spread down the trunks of the trees
6. The felled trees, blooming with mushrooms, their rings in rainbow color. [Largest image]
I made the paintings when a recent study had revealed a new mushroom discovered to have thousands of unique sexes in the species. Some queer spaces were pointing to the new discovery as another example of how binary sex and gender were a lot squishier than previously thought, given a lot of "there's only two sexes and genders" arguments are supplemented with examples from nature.
When I showed the pieces to the class, I got a lot of critiques about how the colors I picked were too bright, wondering why I'd tinted the pinecones pink/blue, asking what the mushrooms were for. I think I had one person get partly there by saying the trees seemed to represent a married couple and the breakdown of a relationship. When I explained my concept, I got a lot of blank looks and polite "oh that's so complex" style responses. The professor thought I was doing too much with the concept, and I shouldn't expect an audience to glean the hyper specific response.
I think it was a pretty interesting eye-opener into how isolated my personal topic echo chambers had become.
Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. spread the self-love ❤
To keep it "fair" I'm answering the anon, but thank you so so much @ifindus and @proosh !!!

After posting my first DaVinci Resolve AMV in April 2022, video editing quickly became one of my favorite hobbies, and this new life development actively characterized my 2023. Be it working on a project to mix the HD, remastered footage of Detective Conan with the old FUNimation English dub or piecing together AMVs, much of my free time throughout the year was devoted to video editing.
A broken computer for several weeks in the summer meant that I couldn't edit as many videos as I would have wanted, but I still progressed and learned a lot. I mixed 70 episodes of HD English dub, I made a YouTube channel, I participated in video collaborations (3! Here, here, and here!), and I tried so many new things as an editor, including but not limited to:
🎬 Glitching VHS effects (seen in "Mohan Kaitou" and "Poison Tree" above, and helped by my acquisition of a VCR, which allowed me to digitize my Detective Conan VHS tapes)
🎬 Karaoke subtitle files that can be toggled on and off on YouTube, created with the help of YTSubConverter (Would anyone be interested in a process post?)
🎬 3D camera typography (the "so alone" in "Corridors of Time")
🎬Follower text (the "we'd never known" in "Corridors of Time")
🎬 Solid color transitions ("I Wish That I Could Tell You")
🎬 Ink splats ("Corridors of Time," "Head Above Water")
🎬 Selective red coloring ("Poison Tree")
🎬 More thoughtful compositions, and fudging sizing and placement for compositional reasons (the handkerchief transition in "Child," the movement of the scenes behind Ran in "Monsters," the liquid flowing in "Poison Tree")
🎬Changing the color of something (the red eyes in "Poison Tree")
🎬 Static masks ("Poison Tree")
🎬 Masking out objects (any [adult swim] logos from VHS footage that didn't come from my Japanese VHS tapes in "Poison Tree")
🎬And though it's not depicted in the snippet above, a CRT and curved TV screen effect for the TV at the end of the full "Poison Tree"
While I was only able to complete 9 AMVs (and the "Messed Up" AMV sadly isn't included in the snippets above, as it remains incomplete), I'm so excited to make more in 2024 with all the new tools in my toolbox!
I'm sure you get loads of these but heck I said I'd give it a shot anyway!
Your artwork is so inspiring and beautiful. I recently graduated from art school with a degree in Animation Production but I've decided I'd love to be an illustrator some day. Your work really motivates me and gets my brain juice buzzin. Keep it up!!!
my ADHD means I get so caught up in planning and planning and planning that I never finish shit so maybe I should force myself to make the fic video sooner cuz I rly am bursting w ideas.
that last post got me thinking abt how a lot of y'all don't know ppl would 'hold their fics hostage' until they deemed they had a sufficient enough amount of comments to post new chapters 😭 i remember plenty of lj ppl taking advantage of that locked journal feature to rly bar you bc unlike ao3, where you can circumvent the simple lockout by making an account, if an lj user locks their journal it's like having a password protected blog where you (as a layperson, im sure hackers can get past this obv) are not getting in w/out being added to that friends list. and fuck if you find a search result for a fic that is on an abandoned 'friends only' journal lolol
I rly don't have the spoons to type everything related to this subject out on my phone but I do wanna finish my fandom vid/essay outline and just make it more podcast-y so I can ramble abt this shit already the way God intended
