[🛡] I touched on this briefly in a previous post, but Shield and his family originally come from Sinnoh. More specifically, Snowpoint City. He grew up with the cold and is most comfortable in colder weather. While they knew that contests are thing in their hometown, they’ve always been interested in where they originated from which happens to be Hoenn. He’s never been to Hoenn and although he wishes one day he can, he’ll have to wait.
