Congrats to Mai on the win!! Such a beautiful performance she was awesome to watch!
One thing tho: what the FUCK were those scores for Isabeau???? No hate to her as a skater but that was some insane overscoring there. 2 flutzes and they give a ! on her flip????
Also Katya's GOE's were a crime. You can't change my mind.
Didn't think about how rare it actually is, aside from the fact that there is no home race for some drivers on the grid. So who even could be next?
Canadian GP: Stroll
Spanish GP: Alonso, Sainz
British GP: Norris, Russell
USA GP (and Las Vegas and potentially next year, Miami): Sargeant
Mexican GP: Perez
And potentially next year:
Australian GP: Piastri, Ricciardo
Japanese GP: Tsunoda
Chinese GP: Zhou
No home Grand Prix (anymore): Bottas, Albon, Magnussen, Hulkenberg, Gasly, Ocon
Fun Home GP Facts:
On the current grid, only 5 drivers are actually from the city their home Grand Prix is held at:
Piastri / Melbourne: grew up about 12 km from Albert Park, although moved to the UK when he was 14
Sargeant / Miami: technically from Ft Lauderdale (29 km from the track), moved to Switzerland at age 12
Stroll / Montreal: born in Montreal, moved to Geneva when he was 12 as well
Zhou / Shanghai: born in Shanghai - also moved (to Sheffield) when he was 12
Leclerc / Monte Carlo: literally took the bus to school on the race track, lived here his entire life
For those without a home GP, these are the closest to their birthplace (distance measured as the crow flies):
Bottas: Hungarian GP
Albon: Silverstone
Magnussen: Zandvoort
Hulkenberg: Zandvoort (with Spa a close second)
Gasly: Silverstone (with Spa a close second)
Ocon: Silverstone (almost a tie with Spa which is only 6 km further!)
Furthest born from (one of) their home race(s):
Sargeant: Las Vegas GP is 3492 km from Ft Lauderdale
Ricciardo: born in Perth 2721 km from Melbourne
Special mention for 2 drivers not born in the country they drive for:
Albon: born in London, UK - if there were a home Grand Prix for him in Bangkok, Thailand, it would be 9535 km from where he was born
Verstappen: born in Hasselt, Belgium - only 70 km from Spa-Francorchamps, but 168 km from his home GP in Zandvoort in the Netherlands
And finally, Barcelona is almost the same distance to Madrid (where Sainz was born) as to Monaco (where Leclerc was born). When the Spanish GP moves to Madrid, it will be home turf for Sainz, but still 372 km from where Alonso was born.
I did it! I got a ticket for the Grand Prix Event in Sheffield! I'm so excited! I'll be there on Saturday and will watch the practice, the rhythm dance, women's short, as well as the men's and pair's free skate! Gotta milk every second of this and every pound it cost...
Sadly, I won't be able to see the whole competition because it's not compatible with my work schedule as I'll also have to travel quite a bit...and 114 pounds for one day is more than enough holy sh*t...
The seat I got also seems to be not that bad, so that's great! :D
This will also be the first competition I'll physically be at! I'm a little nervous not gonna lie because this trip also means that 1. I'll fly on my own for the first time and 2. I'll stay at a hotel on my own for the first time and 3. all that in a foreign country. So that's fun ^^' Wish me luck!
