GREETINGS FROM MEOWTER SPACE.

In my travels I've come to find that I have an extremely strange family background. I'm going to be talking about it in some essays, which may contain descriptions of abuse and neglect. Here's the first one (it's long as fuck.)

On my mom's side, my great great grandmother was Creek. She was alive when I was born, and we briefly met. She was over 125 years old (nobody knows how old exactly.) The men on that side, who were all Scottish, died in their early 40s, except for my grandfather, who left when my mom was a kid. (I met him once, but my mom didn't want me to be around anyone Christian as a kid, so I never met anyone else on that side of the family.) I barely know anything about my Scottish ancestry, although growing up we called the native grapes "bullises," which is a Gaelic word for plums (they're also called muscadines, but I don't know what the truth is anymore.)

My family were subsistance farmers since before colonization, until my grandma became a schoolteacher. Our family moved to what would later be the Free State of Jones from what would later be Alabama, though I'm not sure why. During the Civil War, people in Jones county refused to fight, since nobody owned slaves in the area, and it was declared a Free State. My grandma lives in the Free State, in abject poverty with my uncle and his wife, who just scream at each other and beat their kids and neglect their 15 hoarded dogs all day. And if they have a problem with me saying so, they can eat shit and die.

My mom went to school for anthropology, and taught geology at the University of Southern Mississippi. She was extremely ashamed of how poor our background is, and I wasn't allowed to visit family much, although I wanted to very badly. I got to live with my grandma and my two adopted uncles who are around my age for a little while when we were kids, and they're some of the only positive childhood memories I have. I was extremely isolated and abused, especially by my step dad, who is currently (to my knowledge) employed as a programmer at a major video game company, as well as being a child molester starting when I was 2 or 3 years old (some of my earliest memories.) His name is Rigel Cameron Freeman. I ran away when I was 16 to live with my dad. When I told my mom what he did, she called me a liar and quit speaking to me, and that was the last I heard from her directly. So far as I know, she's been in mental hospitals pretty much since I left.

My dad's mom, whose first name was Ellen, was Ashkenazi Jewish, descended from a family who left Germany before the holocaust. She was a beatnik who was friends with Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsburg, and she had personal beef with Grace Slick over a boyfriend. My dad's first guitar was a gift from Cat Stevens, although this was something he was a little embarrassed about and only mentioned to me once. She was especially close friends with Tiny Tim. She was in California trying to break into acting, and almost got a part in the Godfather allegedly (actually all of this is alleged by my dad, I only met her once. He really didn't like her, so I don't think he would make it up.)

Then she met my grandfather, Bob Marshall, who was probably in California to do drugs (sacred family tradition.) I have reason to believe he was mostly Choctaw and possibly Irish, although on that side of the family it's traditional to claim to be "French or Italian" unless you're very drunk, and then it's okay to be Indian. They moved up to Alaska and lived on the Athabaskan reservation, where my father, Rogan Russell Marshall, was born on April 19. Later, my grandfather became a civil rights lawyer, and he defended the right for prisoners with AIDS to be desegregated (basically anyone with AIDS would die in solitary before that.)

My dad got into Emerson, dropped out because no one could afford textbooks, moved to Mississippi and started this crazy punk band, and then went ahead and wrote some movies anyway. My favorite is called the Attic Expeditions, it features Seth Green, Jeffery Combs, and Alice Cooper, and it's very trippy and fun. Unfortunately, he became disabled from the same autoimmune condition I have, ankylosing spondylitis, which, if you're born male, has much more severe symptoms (which is why I chose not to start testosterone.) AS used to be thought of as genetic, but has recently been linked to environmental pollutants, and I was likely exposed to something released by one of our many chemical factories (my uncle who abuses his kids and dogs is adopted, I mentioned earlier, grew up in my grandma's house when we were kids together, and has the same symptoms, and multiple people who lived on the same Hattiesburg street as my dad in the 90s were diagnosed.) He was living in Massachussetts in his mom's basement when he married my step mom, a public defense attourney, to get health insurance, and they lived in Miami for eight years together until she left him, shortly after I moved in.

After that, I had to drop out of high school, and I lived in hell for about seven years while I worked full time, usually multiple jobs, to take care of us, and all the cats he would bring home (as many as 13, but I ran my house like a cat ranch and it was kind of beautiful.) His physical and mental health was dogshit, he wouldn't stop doing hard drugs, and our relationship was so hopelessly abusive that I had to quit speaking to him as well. My feelings are complicated because, while I love and admire his work, and he taught me a lot of extremely valuable and positive things, the things he did to me would put him in prison if I believed in the law. I owe him everything, and at the same time, I almost wish we'd never met (I'll have to talk about that in another post as well, because it's a lot, and exremely heavy.)

My third parent, Scott Panther, I honestly don't know very well. According to local legend, and there are many about him, he's Scottish and Cherokee. He was close friends with my parents before I was born, helped start Rong (and probably came up with the best ideas for it.) He was my mom's boyfriend for a long time before I was born.

My mom met Scott and Rogan at a Rong show, I was conceived after a Rong show (Scott drove Rogan to her house), and the night I was born there was a Rong show. Scott was overdosing when my mom went into labor, and I was born at 4 AM while multiple tornadoes passed through town. Later that night, he was ready to play the show (hats off). No one told Rogan I was born, though in the full video of the show he mentions the other people in town who were born on April 18. Unfortunately, the video is probably lost - he gave all the Rong tapes to someone I don't know, and he didn't say who (he may have even been lying and threw them away.)

I inherited a lot of personality traits from Scott, as many people who know us have noticed, although I gained them not through direct teaching, or through any modern understanding of genetics. I've read that before colonization these kind of things were more common and better understood.

The Hero's Shade is Will (Zelda x Illusion of Gaia x Final Fantasy)

Or is it Freedan? It's certainly not freeman... After replaying IoG, I've made some concerning observations. The first of which is that this game is the original appearance of the "Moon Children" on Nintendo hardware.

If you're not aware; IoG is incredibly similar to Zelda, the hero is some dirty blonde hair kid that has a flute, is harassed by a princess; has weird tree friends... And most importantly; Stops the moon from destroying the world.

I'll get to the FF references in a moment.

This is possible because of a rumor I heard about the Gaming Industry (especially that in Japan, especially early on) Where companies would just employee swap all the time. Likely due to shuffling finances.

I'm not aware of the full story; forgive my ignorance.

Now, Illusion of Gaia is actually one in a long line of Enix games (before the SquareEnix merger) that may or may not be tangentially or directly linked together.

It was probably left open ended on purpose.

Act Raiser, Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, and Terranigma are all *mostly* directly linked.

They tend to feature a Hero (whether Human or Divine) guided by a diety, and ultimately facing off against monsters that are about to destroy the world, have destroyed the world, or are on their way to destroy the world via Meteor or from the Moon.

And when you hear "Meteor" you already know where this is headed when it comes to Final Fantasy. And that's not the only Link, IoG features a deity named Gaia (a large talking head statue) and a Dark Gaia Statue (on the moon) who opposed the light.

These Statues are the first, that I know of, in video game history that resemble the Fal'cie from FFXIII. They are incredibly similar in appearance.

And that there are at least two that are diametrically opposed, just like ones in FFXIII; probably isn't a coincidence.

That's not all; Will gets help from two other entities turned to stone. Freedan and Shadow. Former Hero's turned into stone by Gaia, just like what happens to the L'Cie. If they do not (or even if they do) complete the bidding of the Fal'Cie.

Will also gets the help of a village of "Flower Fairy People" who take the form of humans, but live in an illusory village. Saria feeling like a direct callback Lilly. Considering they're both known for the songs that are passed through their Tribe. Lily once saying "The only way your Grandmother could have learned that song is from us." Grandma Lola having originally taught young will the Melody.

And subsequently, Will learns the Melody of the Wind from that same village. The wind motifs being heavily implied whenever we're near a forest temple.

However, in IoG, the Forest is all but cut down. But a temple still stands, and so does the guardian Diety of the woods.

That's not all. Will sports the same Blonde hair seen in Link from Wind Waker, and they're the only two in gaming history where their Grandmother's are directly involved in the plot of the game.

Ok, that one is a little bit of Stretch.

But the biggest thing to note is the end of Will in IoG. Like in Lightning Returns, the world *isn't* saved. Instead, Will is reincarnated hundreds of years in the future after having lost his life to defeat the final boss. (Like his father)

Both Will and Freedan never got to be the hero, despite saving the world.

Just like the Hero's Shade.

But... That's just a Theory....

A great reminder

They make it to their destination slowly.

Very slowly.

Part of the problem is that she's travelling with the slowest people she's ever met. Every single one of them is content with taking weeks to get from one place to the other, because they all remember a time it always did. It's a feeling she remembers from when she was younger and her dad was away and her mom couldn't quite handle two kids at home while she wasn't, and Nile and Cass would be sent to Grandma's. Grandma Freeman was actually her dad's grandma, and she was the oldest woman Nile had ever met—old enough to give Andy a run for her money, she'd say—and Nile had spent all her summers there bewildered by how content she was to sit down and knit and wait for the water to boil.

Travelling with Andy, Nicky and Joe is a little bit like that experience of standing at the stove waiting for the water to boil while her great-grandmother keeps the flame on low and gives her words about patience.

Except it's not that she's bored. It's that she's on edge.

"Nile," Joe says, the third time she asks about where they're going and why they're going so slowly. "I don't blame you for the fact that your world is extremely fast-paced, but that is a product of a very recent period of time, and neither natural nor healthy."

To which: Nile would like to call bullshit. Her introduction to the immortal lifestyle having been one solid weekend of unadulterated fuckery. You cannot give her a whole weekend of Kill Bill but shittier, and then say "actually, we spend most of our time doing 5000-piece jigsaw puzzles." She saw somebody else's insides and watched her own bones heal before her eyes and didn't even realise how fucked that was until (much) later because of the immediacy and breakneck pace of it all—a pace that left her, or any of them, no time or space for thinking or questioning. All she did that day was act.

Now there's no acting at all. She'd like to see the merit of that, but mostly it puts her on edge.

Too much time to think, she thinks, might help them with their thousands of years of figuring out what to do with themselves, but it just leaves her upset.

Even then.

They make it, eventually, to where they're going. It's not a particularly special day. They're in the forest somewhere east of the Black Sea, trees and dirt stretching out around them broken up only by the occasional village. She's woken up by Joe and Nicky arguing about the quality of different animal milk when used in cheese and when used in other cooking, which as far as she can tell is an old debate and one with no resolution. This wakes Andy up, too, but she only says "Yaks," and nothing else, in a mood because she's acclimating to the concept of sunburns lasting and has just discovered that her sunscreen doesn't actually last longer than a couple of hours.

"It says ultra protection daily sunblock on the bottle!" she keeps repeating, betrayal in her tone.

Nicky takes a break from pontificating on Greek yoghurt to say, "Maybe you are putting it on wrong?"

When Andy looks like she's ready to hit him, Joe says, "Give me that," takes the bottle from her, holds it a foot from his face and squints at it, before concluding: "The font is too small."

Fortunately, Nile is familiar enough with sunscreen to tell Andy how to do it—the right way this time, because Andy didn't listen the last time she told her to put on more—as they pack away their tent (Nile's discovery of the week is that she might not be able to die, but she can get a crick in her neck from sleeping in their car) and their food and don their backpacks and start driving further in.

The drive is punctuated by more cheese talk. Joe and Nicky devolve into a different language every hour or so, but only when talking to each other, remembering to revert to English when they turn to Nile. It's Nicky's turn to drive (which he does like a complete madman) so Joe gets shotgun, because of course he does.

Andy teaches Nile a card game, which is mostly about not letting your cards fly out of your hand when the wind picks up or when they go over a bump, which is often. Every once in a while, Joe breaks away from the conversation (which is stuck somewhere around ricotta) to remind Andy of a rule like "and if you get the queen of spades, you have to put away two of your cards until you find the jack," or "right, but you skip your turn if you've got two clubs in your hand and that new song comes on."

And then they're there.

It's eerie, the switch. One moment Nile's convinced she's finally got the hang of the game enough to actually win a round, and the next Andy's looking up, eyes wide, and saying, "We're here."

She says it with the tone of voice she had that first day they met. "We're here," like pulling up to Copley's house and being ready to walk into possible death. "We're here," like "Whatever it takes." It immediately puts her on edge, something in her that recognised the danger in Andy even before she saw the inside of that church sitting upright, ready to pay attention.

This is it, she thinks, trying not to feel like she's been falsely lulled into complacency. Time for Kill Bill: Vol. 2. For a second, she even wonders if all the rest of it—the cards, the cheese, the terrible driving and the jigsaw and the full three hours Andy and Joe spent in a single shop trying to buy a blanket that felt right—if all of those things are just to make Nile's survival instinct forget who they are.

Who they can be.

But then Nile starts to get out of the car, and Joe says, "Wait," and makes Andy slather more sunscreen on her face and arms while Nicky finishes his bit on ricotta and Joe himself counts every one of the fifty-two card set before he puts them away ("They're very smooth, and I'd like to not have to replace one yet."). So Nile decides that that cannot, possibly, be fake.

Intentional? Maybe. But not a lie. And the distinction matters, she thinks.

They go a little bit further on foot before they get to it. Stretching away around her is a huge cavernous structure of a pale bleached stone arcing at least twelve feet high. It's buried halfway in the dirt with vines and creepers and mushrooms and flowers all over it, but the structures still go well over her head, almost of a height with the old trees that surround it.

"What is this place?" she asks.

Andy says, "This is where Lykon died."

She can't say what it is that connects the dots in her mind, only that the moment Andy says it, she knows—that the structures aren't stone or ungodly amounts of ivory or a ritual site or a freak natural formation. They're bones, large and disproportionate and cavernous ribs, holding them in right now like once they held someone's—Lykon's—heart and lungs.

"I thought you said," she starts, but the truth is she doesn't know _what_ she thought. She cannot begin to comprehend this.

"He was just like us when he was alive," Andy says. Joe and Nicky have fallen back, standing next to the smallest rib, Nicky with his hand hovering over the rib like he wants to touch it, like he has, like there is a familiarity there, though Nile knows Lykon predates him. It's none of their first time here, though, she can tell. "He was shorter than me, actually. We used to..."

Nile doesn't ask as Andy looks away. Her eyes aren't wet, though, and though the pain radiates off her, she's nothing more than steel eyes and locked spine. When she looks at the bones, she looks like she's remembering—but maybe not his death.

Nile asks, "What happened?"

Andy grins at her. "No idea. We don't really have any other examples. We buried him here and didn't come back for... two hundred years? At least? And when we did, it was like this."

This tracks: all her answers to the truly unbelievable parts of all of this have been, in the end, we don't know. She turns instead to the one person who she thinks will have come to some kind of conclusion, not maybe out of a sense of science or logic, but because he needs something to believe in. Nile needs something to believe in, too—she always has. Sometimes that something has disappointed her more than it's given her any value, but—

But she's standing in a rib cage taller than she is, and every hair on her body is standing on end with it.

Nicky says, "Our lives are in some ways far greater than that of an ordinary person. I do not mean that they have more value, but perhaps... vastness of experience. It cannot reflect in us while we are alive, or as alive as we are, but after..." He shrugs.

Nile says, "So you think his bones expanded to reflect that?" except that even as she says it, she can feel something of the question in her settle. She's not blind—she's seen their age on them, on all of them. Not just in their exhaustion or the old people nonsense they're always on or the way they speak or their technological ineptitude, but in their eyes. In the way they close their fists and the way they hold their weapons. So really, she means, in their bones. Settled in there with an ancientness that she can't really comprehend, that she cannot even begin to imagine settling on her. When she was fifteen, sixteen had felt terribly far away, and when she was twenty-four, twenty-six felt like it was right there.

But one day—

She thinks of Copley's charts, strings drawing to strings and making a flowchart of history that goes back maybe one hundred years and spreads so far. Exponential, she hears, in his voice. Where does that go, after an immortal dies? Where does that sit while they're alive? If she looks at Andy now, she can almost imagine that she's seeing a woman with branches emerging from her the way vines have crept over and around Lykon's bones, entangling him permanently in this forest, making him just as much a part of the structure of this place as it—the world—is a part of him.

And Andy? Nile tries not to think of what she'll be, twenty or forty years from now.

She pointedly does not think of Quynh in her watery non-grave.

"So," Andy says, "don't bury me in a fucking city," and Joe barks out a surprised laugh. "Unless you want to fuck it up."

Nile rolls her eyes. "We're not burying you for a few decades yet, grandma," she says, though they cannot possibly have any idea of that. Sometimes she's convinced that being able to die at any moment now is a thousand times more frightening than being a normal person  who, also, could die at any second. Maybe it's the experience of having lived through it, having come out the other side and found—she doesn't know. She doesn't feel invincible like this. She's never put too much thought into her own death before, but now that she's died and come back, she's terrified of it, and she wants it, and she wants to never look at it.

It isn’t combat based. Missions include keeping up with McQueen’s top speed by racing down Radiator Springs’ main street, learning how to turn right to go left at Willy’s Butte, keeping up with Cruz’s top speed on Fireball Beach, avoiding pushy competitors with the Thunder Hollow challengers, and practicing with Cruz at Thomasville, culminating in the Piston Cup race at Florida International Speedway, where the objective is to win against Jackson Storm.

Sora enters the world as a custom-made sports coupe mixing a few real-life sports car models before visits to Luigi’s Casa Della Tires and Ramone’s House of Body Art end with him modified into a next-gen race car sponsored by Dinoco (with Tex’s blessing) and with Cruz’s number.

It’s set during Cruz’s first Piston Cup racing season, so McQueen still has Doc’s colors and spends the Florida race as Sora’s crew chief.

As Sora finishes his story, Mater is certainly unhappy with Xehanort’s actions forcing Sora’s hand. “That dad-gum Xehanort”, he says angrily. Extra points if Sora doesn’t get to the part where Xehanort is dead, then Sarge gets in his face and demands him to teach Xehanort a lesson when he gets back in a militaristic manner. “Is that understood,” Sarge yells. Then Sora tries to correct him, but gets cut off and asked again, “Is that understood,” and has to respond, “Sir, yes, sir!”

Of course, during the top speed races, Luigi is the one to signal the race to begin.

In the Radiator Springs race, Sora’s top speed is tracked by Sheriff’s speed radar, and on Fireball Beach, it’s via Cruz’s personal assistant, Hamilton.

If you fail the “Turn Right to go Left” mission, Sora goes flying into the bed of cacti, and Mater fishes him out.

I know I’ll get hate for this, but Cars 2 elements are here. Heck, maybe Mater can’t be present most for the training because he’s busy with Finn and Holley. After all, does he still owe Holley a first date?

I wanted the player character in this world to be Kairi just so Storm can feel the embarrassment of losing to not one, but two “costume girls”.

The Piston Cup race is announced as a 500-lap race, but no game developer is that malicious to force the player to race 500 laps around an oval, so they’d take after the first Cars game and make it twelve laps with the sun slowly lowering throughout the race.

Ranting about Morgan again because the latest episode made me mad. (Spoilers)

Hiii, it's Tumblr's number 1 Morgan Freeman fan again (not that one). You don't know it yet but I am it's true I think about her an abnormal amount for a character that's got less screentime than Agent Schmegan. Just finished the latest episode and it was hilarious and emotional and all those good things great job guys. BUT I'm still genuinely so disappointed and a little mad at the fact that Morgan was so overlooked this episode (s2 ep 45).

In an episode that was primarily about her family, Morgan was mentioned twice. 1. In reference to Glenn and Jodie's feud over her, and 2. At the end when she showed up defeated and in handcuffs Great acknowledgement of her existence as Glenn's partner and Nicky's mother and Taylors grandmother etc etc etc! /sarc

We've had two opportunities now in season two to see what Nicky and Morgan's relationship is like and to see her interact with her grandson, and neither time did the cast think to include her in the family dynamics. Back in her first s2 appearance she literally didn't acknowledge her grandson at all, not a single greeting to Taylor. I don't get it does she just suck?? Has she been a shitty mom this whole time or something?? So much is going on in the Close/Foster/Freeman family tree and Morgan has no thoughts on any of it I guess.

You'd think that after how integral she was to Glenn and Nicky's stories in season 1 it'd be, you know, a really big deal that she's back now and not dead and part of the family as we the audience know it. But nah, she's just a thing for two men to fight over now.

I genuinely don't know what Anthony is thinking, how he could go through all of those flashback scenes and not think to mention where Morgan might have been during the birth of her grandson or after?? I know this podcast is about dads but Jesus Christ even Jodie got a passing mention where is Grandma Morgan???

i’ll start with AKB but i’ll do it in three parts ranging how much knowledge i have on the subject

andrew keenan bolger was born on the 16th may 1985 in detroit. he has 2 older sisters, maggie and celia ( who won a tony award for “to kill a mockingbird”!) he’s married to scott bixby since 2018 and their relationship is so nice and wholesome it’s so cute.

HES 5’4. IM 5’5. it’s so funny to think he’s shorter than me but whatever 😭😭

his first broadway role was in the OBC of seussical as alternate Jojo in 2000-2001 of which he did ONE broadway show then got kicked coz he hit puberty LMFAO poor 15 year old andrew

he then went on to be robertson ay in mary poppins THEN went in a woekshop for newsies and papermill and broadway( fun fact i think he’s the only actor who stayed in the same role for the workshop, papermill then obc of newsies )

during newsies he got a lot of fans which honestly yeah real but in march 2013 he left newsies to begin rehersing for tuck everlasting which didn’t make it until 2016 bc there wasn’t a suitable theatre for a transfer to broadway yet ( another fun fact if it had stayed in the realm of 2013 sadie sink would have played winnie instead of sarah charles lewis )

then in 2017 he was in kris kringle the musical playing kris kringle and in 2021 he was in seven deadly sins the off broadway musical playing phillipe

in september ( not sure if going ahead due to sag aftra ) he’s gonna star in “dracula a comedy of terrors” which seems very fun!! he posted a rlly funny photo of him wearing vampire teeth
