Well bookworms, I have just finished Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers! It is a book I have heard so much about and a copy has sat on my Australian bookshelf for ages! I was gifted a copy by @hmhteen this year for my UK bookshelf and I’m so glad I have finally read it! The writing was not as strong as I was expecting however I thoroughly enjoyed the story! Set in medieval Brittany (France), Ismae is trained by the nuns of St. Mortain in the arts of assassination and is then sent out on her missions. She finds herself among the Duchy of Brittany and must fight for her survival and for those she comes to care about. Although she is trained to kill without question, Ismae has a heart and realises that her instructors may not be as infallible as she is lead to believe. Instead, she follows her heart and is rewarded by her patron saint for doing so. . I really enjoyed the historical context, the ruthlessness of the royal court and the duplicitous characters! I’ve always enjoyed historical fiction for those aspects! Sci fi is so much fun, especially when it combines humor and high-stakes action. That’s what we loved best about THE SCORPION RULES, a sci-fi dystopia about a group of teens kept as hostages in order to prevent their parents, rulers of their respective countries, from declaring war on one another. Add in a sadistic (and hilariously evil) teenage AI, and you’ve got a recipe for a perfect read.

WASTE OF SPACE is kind of the opposite of dystopian—in many ways, it’s actually a satire about the modern world, our reliance on technology, and the ridiculousness of reality TV—but it’s also a story with a lot of heart. This time the sadistic force at play is a TV show producer determined to do whatever possible to get the best ratings for his show…even if that means completely screwing over the ten teens who signed up to go to Mars and compete. Garve Mercy(His fair assassin#1) by Robin LaFevers 3.5/5 It starts out with a good plot as we follow a handmaiden of death in a historical fiction set up. My main issue was the main character; at times she a bit annoying. The story and world was much better constructed and thats the main reason I haven't ditched the series as the second book no longer follows Ismae. Last night I finished Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers and I loved it!!! This is the first book in the His Fair Assassin trilogy. This book is set in the late 1400s in Brittany during Brittany’s fight to keep independent from France. It follows the story of Ismae who is sired by Death himself and is trained to be an assassin at the convent of St. Mortain. She is assigned to protect the safety of Brittany’s duchess where she begins to have doubts about what she’s been taught to think about death.
