Descriptions of 2400s fashion from Issue 10 Part 5 of Fortitude Fics
- Stadi is in a lab coat-style jacket; a sandy-yellow high-necked belted tunic embroidered with leaves; and pants in the same color. As always, his medkit is over his shoulder.
- Sanok has a pi’to-sai over a deep-blue high-necked pel’el with raised vertical seams down the center, shoulders, and the outer sides of sleeves; pants in same color with same seams on outer sides of legs; and his religious insignia.
Inspiration for Stadi’s clothing came from TNG’s Tam Elbrun.
Tumblr media
Sanok’s was inspired by TNG’s Etana Jol, Enterprise’s T’Les, and Kelvin Spock.

Give it up for Those Left Behind: Mark, T'Pel & Greskrendtregk - the common law widows

Note
I'd love to hear about one random headcanon you have about Greskrendtregk, if you'd like!
You know how in some videogames certain actions will get you a little "Clementine will remember that" or "Leliana <3 (+10)" message that pops up in the left hand corner? Please envision a "Traxanaxanos was so excited to answer this all day at work +100 Tumblr delight" message in the top left of your screen right now. Thank you for asking me about my favorite non-character, my specialist guy, Greskrendtregk Wildman.
Five facts exist about him in canon: his name is Greskrendtregk (name which has been passed down for five generations), he's a Ktarian, he's married to Samantha, and he was aboard Deep Space 9 when Voyager left. Samantha phrases it as "my husband is still at Deep Space 9" in Elogium, which I think was meant to imply more of a Starfleet assignment than him just chilling there as a civilian, and beta-canon then makes it explicit that he is enrolled in Starfleet as well. So - Deep Space 9 assignment:
Greskrendtregk is an engineer, but not the kind of Starfleet engineer we typically see involved with the engines and the warpcores of starships. I think he's much more interested in the immediate biological needs of living in space: the environmental controls, humidity and breathable air and comfortable temperatures, the structural soundness of bulkheads and walls. He's an HVAC guy, he does structural and mechanical engineering, he's who you call if life-support goes down, or if the ambassador from Betazed somehow accidentally sets the whole station to a relative humidity of 70% instead of just her quarters.
While this is of course a useful skill-set on starships, he's more interested in environemnts that are much more oriented towards long-term or permanent habitation, and preferably stationary (and boy after Samantha goes missing on a two week expedition does this sedentary tendency increase a thousand fold), such as space stations, nascent colonies, and far-flung research stations, which is why he was assigned to Deep Space 9.
Also, because I love him and because I love this ask: a bonus second headcanon!
This is an image I have seen around tumblr. I think it is from Chainsaw Man (?), but to me it is pure Wildmancore.
Tumblr media
Greskrendtregk and Samantha's first date was probably her taking him to like an aquarium or a birdblind or something and just infodumping about an animal for way too long but at minute 4 of 26 Greskrendtregk is already like
<<<:3 *planning their wedding*
She does realize she's doing it eventually and tries to ask him his thoughts on the animal to give him a moment to talk and he's like "I have never once before considered the existence of this animal but now I understand it is a wonder of evolution and will look for it everywhere and treat it with the appropriate awe when I see it. What are your thoughts on [species of mold that evolved to fill the ecological niche of Jeffries tubes]?" and then Samantha also starts planning their wedding.

much love to you 🫂🫂🫂 here's a star trek ask: what do you think ezri's childhood was like? or alternatively: do you think seven and naomi wildman stay in contact after voyager, and if yes, how do you see that friendship developing?
Thank you friend!! And these are both great questions :D
I think Ezri's childhood was, for lack of a better term, very confined- which is why I'm always so moved by the fact that her destiny (hehe) was to take on an existence so fundamentally expansive. I think her mother did spend a lot of time with her, but it wasn't necessarily time invested in Ezri's needs or dreams for the future- it was more training her in how to be a ruthless hash tag girl boss so she could eventually take over the mining business. We know from canon that her father was barely ever around (mostly because of his bad relationship with her mother), so I think he was originally in the family business but started taking up work elsewhere to get away more, and eventually just never came back? Maybe he took her out on business trips once or twice, and this is where she came to see travel as an escape. She was infused with a lot of curiosity about the galaxy, I mean who knew there was soo much more out there than just mining and business! And this is what gave her this deep desire to explore and meet people of different species and cultures (which her mother never approved of- she wanted all her kids to stay in the Sappora system), which motivated her to join Starfleet- I mean, if she was looking for a way to get out and "seek out new life and civilisations", that was it. (I think given that the place she was born was called "New Sydney", there must've been a fair amount of Humans too- plenty of walking Starfleet brochures lol!) I also think she was raised to be a perfectionist, and that's why she's so hard on herself in canon- I don't think Ezri was this adorkable goof who couldn't do anything right pre-joining, I actually think she was one of those people who literally did everything fine but was just never satisfied with herself. Canon also says she and her brother Norvo were super close; I think he was fundamentally an underachiever so they never really had a competitive relationship (while Janel was more the "model" kid). I think they often took solace in each other and gave each other a much-needed safe space to simply suck at things and be otherwise vulnerable, and so he secretly felt very abandoned when she left
As for Seven and Naomi, lol I'm way too much of a softie to imagine them falling out of touch! I think, given that neither of them really had much of an "Earth/Alpha Quadrant equals home" association, they'd sort of rely on each other to deal with the loneliness that would undoubtedly come with being the only ones not going back, but just... going somewhere else. Samantha would be thrilled to see her home and friends and husband (here's hoping Greskrendtregk survived the Dominion War!!!) but to Naomi, all these people are just strangers. Seven also has extended family on Earth, but she doesn't know any of them, and she's still finding her feet re social skills- she wouldn't immediately feel comfortable going Out There and making new friends imo. I think they'd help each other a lot! And I think, as Seven comes to understand herself more and more, she'd reexamine the dynamics she had with Janeway and the EMH, and then her own mentorship-like dynamic with the Borg kids- and feel sort of like determined not to make her relationship with Naomi a mentorship of any kind. I see it turning into a cool older sister type of vibe :)

The Good Ship CrushWay, Chapter 35
Sick Bay: Locutus is sleeping; Tuvok is meditating, or at least trying to meditate.  Frustrated in his own Vulcan way, he marches to the EMH’s office. The EMH is hunkered down over a laptop, seemingly very annoyed. As Tuvok walks in, the EMH pushes a button on the computer.
EMH: Mr. Tuvok.  Please come in. Tuvok: I must speak with Captain Janeway. EMH: I am sure she is asleep.  It is 0330.  Can it wait until morning, or is it an emergency? Tuvok: (hesitant) It is not an emergency. EMH: Yet you still want to talk about...whatever it is. Tuvok: It is disrupting my meditation. EMH: (getting up from his chair, scanning Tuvok) You appear to be in perfect physical condition.  You should be completely able to meditate, unless there’s something else bothering you. Tuvok: (squirming) I must speak with someone. EMH: ...Mr. Tuvok, do you require a friend? Tuvok: (reluctantly) Yes, Doctor.  Would you care to listen? EMH: Oh, no.  I have a good deal of work to do.  I do have someone here you could talk to--I’ve been speaking with him for some time.  (EMH turns his laptop around to show Tuvok that Neelix is on the screen. He presses a button and leaves the room.  Neelix is overjoyed to see Tuvok.) Neelix: MR. VULCAN!  It’s so good to see you. Tuvok: (audibly wincing) Mr. Neelix.   Neelix: Now, Mr. Vulcan, what can I talk with you about?!  What is ailing you? Tuvok: (looks around, panicked, for the EMH, who left immediately after exposing Neelix) Nothing of your concern, Mr. Neelix. Neelix: Now, that’s not true.  We are old friends who haven’t seen each other in a while.  On Earth, they would say we need to “catch up!” Tuvok: Mr. Neelix, you have no idea what I have been through in the last few months. Neelix: That is precisely why you need to tell me. Tuvok: Mr. Neelix, you had your own ship, correct? Neelix: Correct. Tuvok: But you didn’t have a crew. Neelix: No, I didn’t.  It was too small a ship--only one set of living arrangements.  But on Voyager, being a part of a crew was the best thing I’ve ever done.  To work together with people from every walk of life to achieve one thing: getting home.  Tuvok: And too many of them never got there. Neelix: (after a moment of silence) Mr. Vulcan, I’ve been watching a few ancient  Earth shows.  One of them has a sentiment I think you could use right now.  (Tuvok rolls his eyes, but listens.)  “There are certain rules about a war. And rule number one is young men die. And rule number two is, doctors can't change rule number one.” [from M*A*S*H] Now, in your case, Mr. Vulcan, you weren’t fighting-- Tuvok: I understand the sentiment, Mr. Neelix. Neelix: (smiling sadly) You’re welcome.
The Bridge: KJ, Tom, Ro, Tasha
KJ: Tom, take us in slowly--one-half impulse.  Tasha, notify Starfleet Command that we are docking. Tasha and Tom: Aye, Captain. KJ: Tasha, you have the bridge. I still have a few things to pack. (exit to ready room) Tasha: Ohana to Command Center.  We’ve returned from our mission and are ready to dock.  New Female Voice: Acknowledged, Ohana.  Proceed to Docking Bay 9.
The USS Ohana docks, and the crew exit.  KJ is packed up completely and ready to leave. B’Elanna joins Tom, hand in hand.  Tasha looks over to Ro, who is staring straight ahead.  Tuvok, Locutus, Seven, and the EMH all pile out of sick bay.  Everyone is ready to be off the ship and soar into a new life.  As they dock and the airlock is released, Bev runs to KJ, who sweeps her off her feet and kisses her deeply.  Locutus cannot hide his shock, but he at the very least is short of mouth agape.  Tuvok sees Neelix and nearly turns around to get back on the ship when he sees who is behind him: T’Pel.  Neelix smiles widely as T’Pel and Tuvok lock eyes.  Neelix leads them out. Tom and B’Elanna see Harry, who is waiting for clearly more than just Tuvok.  B’Elanna puts her arm around Harry, and she and Tom lead him away, explaining what happened. Bev and KJ take Locutus to meet Picard, Naomi, and Greskrendtregk, who were also waiting for this happy reunion of sorts. The doors open again.  In walks Kira Nerys.
Ro: Nerys?  What are you doing here? Tasha: (shocked) Ro...Kira?!  (addressing Ro) That’s a rather intimate way to greet someone who is “just a friend”. (Ro is offended.) KJ: ...Kira? Kira: (turning) Yes, that is my name.  Why do I know your voice? KJ: (in disbelief, inching towards her) You’re alive?! Kira: (sly but nervous smile) As far as I know, by the mercy of the Prophets. KJ: Kira.  (reaching for her ear) Does it still hurt you? Kira: Not since I was a chi--(realizing) wait.  Kathryn? (KJ sobs, hugging her close.  After a beat.) You saved my life. KJ: And you, mine.  (After a moment, realizing Kira did not come to see her) I’m sorry--who were you really here to see? Kira: I was hoping to see Laren. Ro: (looking at KJ, softening) Dinner in my quarters tomorrow at 1700? (KJ and Bev nod, smiling. Ro reaches for Kira’s hand. Ro nods to Tasha.) Commander.  (Ro and Kira exit, hand in hand.  Tasha stares at the door long after they’ve gone through it--she is confused and angry.)

Bitter Wisdom (drabble)
Tumblr media
Written to a @voyager-book-club prompt from @ariella884: “Pick one character and have them call out JC on their feelings/attraction for one another.” h/t @jhelenoftrek for beta work. AO3.
She caught me watching. My fault. Little tells of his devotion: his hand on her back, the tilt of his head.
A woman doesn’t lean toward a man that way without knowing how it feeds his fantasy. It fed my own hunger, living so long on memories.
Her eyes hooked into mine, flashed a warning like a jerk of the line. I looked down, shamed. Then angry.
She lingered. Her mistake. Functional widow trumped ensign, and I spoke.
“Greskrendtregk used to look at me that way. You have no idea, Captain, how much you’ll miss it if you lose him.”

Note
if you could write a canon episode (to be produced and released to the public) for any Star Trek series (that would be released chronologically at any point in the story or as a replacement for another episode), which would you pick, and what would the plot be? Would you choose to make any big changes? For example, making spirk canon?
It would 1000% no questions asked be a two parter episode of Voyager exploring what everyone's families/friends are doing back home called "The Ones Left Behind" or some such (centering around T'Pel, Mark, and Greskrendtregk but they of course interact with every main character's family sans Seven/Kes) and we'd get to see how everyone back home is grieving or holding out and it ends on a hopeful note either just for the sake of hope or perhaps there's news that Voyager actually IS still around. The episode's actual plot would be those three named above trying to find evidence for Voyager still being around or at least not a lost cause as Starfleet tries to declare the crew dead. They meet everyone's families as a result of this task (and ask that they please push back against Starfleet's decision, to varying results). My second option is another voyager episode where Tuvok, Chakotay, and Janeway are focused on almost exclusively as the A plot because they're beamed to a planet they have to get off of and no one can beam down to help them. I want to see them interact with each other more!!! I want their interpersonal drama to come bubbling to the surface and I want insight into how well Tuvok & Janeway work together (and how Chakotay fits into that equation). I would not make any big changes, no~!

“Before Mark could reply, Gres spoke at as loud a volume as his soft voice would allow. ‘May I have everyone’s attention please?’ The Ktarian stood in the middle of the room, holding a glass of what looked to Mark like Saurian brandy, and had to repeat his request several times before the room quieted down.
‘I would like to thank all of you for coming. I would also like to thank Quark for his fine catering job.’ The Ferengi bowed slightly.”
and
“‘I agree with Mr. Honigsberg,” T’Pel said. ‘I believe that my husband is alive. Many times over the years he has gone on difficult missions and he has always returned to me. I choose to have faith in his ability to do so again. It is not logical - but the feeling remains, and it would be the height of illogic to deny its existence.’
Smiling wanly, Gres raised his glass and said, ‘Then I propose a toast to the height of illogic. Long may it sustain us.’“
-from Letting Go by Keith R. A. Decandido in Star Trek Voyager: Distant Shores, edited by Marco Palmieri
4 things:
1. Quark
2. T’Pel and Tuvok confirmed for acting illogically in their love for each other
3. Greskgrendtregk has a very soft and quiet voice and I love that for him
4. Greskrendetregk is a man who fucking loves making toasts. 2 in the span of 27 pages, with the implication he will make another in the future. Ktarian cultural practice? A personal quirk? Weird grief coping mechanism? Who can say.

Although Greskrendtregk is both not a character who really exists and Star Trek has never been particularly body diverse, the Greskrendtregk that lives in my heart of hearts and head canon of head canons is a fucking beefy guy. Like the kind of guy who does Olympic shot put or weightlifting. Much like Joe Kovacs or Lasha Talakhadze who are men I know virtually nothing about but who have the body type I’m thinking of. A classic strongman body.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He looks like this body type but with horns! And beautiful long hair! He maybe looses a lot of the underlying muscle in the time Voyager is missing but he remains huge.
I feel like beta canon establishes he’s an engineer? I don’t know why I would have that in my brain otherwise, I hate that idea, engineers are over represented in the fiction. He’s a fucking micropaleontologist or something. He does Ktarian stone throwing, looks at tiny fossils, loves making toasts at parties, and remembers every alien animal fact his wife has ever told him.
(I also don’t like that he’s betacanonically in Star Fleet I think he should just be some guy and Star Fleet should be less of an inward-facing organization where everyone only dates other enrolled members)
