idk something something Leon’s contract with DSO (pretending they’re a normal company with legal paperwork and employment records) being bought out by the BSAA after some string pulling on Chris’s part, Leon’s thankful and things are looking up, but he can’t shake the anxiety or dread and he’s being eat up with worry for Sherry and finally he just crumbles and has a nervous breakdown (bc finally he’s safe and can actually start processing half the shit he’s been through over the years) and Chris is there to hold him together and talk him down from it, just promising again and again that the worst really is over and Leon wants to believe him and on some level he does know that but it’s going to take so long for it to actually sink in

like maybe at first he starts acting weird when he’s around Chris, like he’s waiting for the other shoe to drop and for Chris to shift and take on a role and attitude similar to Krauser -he’d never he’d never he’d never but Leon’s being thrown into something new yet all too familiar once again and it’s new but it’s BETTER and it should be good and he should feel safe but he just DOESNT yet and won’t for a while. so he becomes even more reserved, no more witty one liners bc they only ever annoyed Krauser, maybe Chris has feelings and lets slip something about Leon’s appearance and it’s like ice being dumped down Leon’s back, he becomes even MORE formal, even less Leon, maybe Chris addresses it, asks him about it, and this scares Leon more and now he’s overcorrected and is more tense and fidgety but tries to act normal but his one liners are awkward and half stumbled through and he’s visibly uncomfortable after a failed attempt at acting normal, he stops eating in the mess hall but then Chris asks about it so he overcorrects and is there every meal forcing his food down and trying not to get sick with the dread and anxiety in his gut, hoping Chris doesn’t notice the way he’s sweating and fighting back dry heaves

Leon NOT being pushed to the brink during training and being confused when it ends for the day and he hasn’t even broken a rib yet, did he do something wrong? is that why they called off training early? the sun’s only just setting where’s everyone going bingo?? so he goes back to his room with all his pent up energy and maybe he trashes the place and puts a hole in the wall because they didn’t work him hard enough he’s not tired enough to pass out from exhaustion yet

coming back from a mission and not being sent out on another one immediately, not only getting time to recover but also just..wait around for the next mission… and he doesn’t know what to do with himself. why haven’t they sent him back out yet? did he fuck up the last run? what do you mean there are no plans for another mission yet, are they thinking of terminating him and sending him back to DSO? they have to be, that’s what’s taking so long, is Chris mad? disappointed? couldn’t care less honestly?? why is everyone just smiling in his face and pretending like nothing’s wrong? are they all in on it??

and Chris is concerned the whole time, trying everything he can think to help Leon settle in but every time it seems like he’s just making things worse…did he do something wrong? is Leon regretting making the switch and does he resent Chris for it? maybe he should tell him that he’s not confined here, if he misses the DSO he can always- oh no that was the wrong thing to say

I'm just going to offer the skeleton of a dialogue exchange I envisioned for this prompt, and you can all fill in the blanks as you'd like! 🫡 The voices are potentially way off but hopefully the vibes are still there.

Context floating in my head that I couldn't execute effectively/quickly enough: this is pre amangela officially getting together. but both of them have an inkling of how they/the other person feels. Someone brought candy canes in. Angela has spent the full day being tormented because every time she looks over at Amanda, Amanda has a candy cane in her mouth/is partway eating it/is looking over at her while her mouth. Does Things/etc and she's Not Being Regular About It.

(In her defense Amanda is absolutely doing it intentionally.)

Close to the end of the day Amanda fully just offers Angela if she wants to "try her candy cane" while holding out the one she's eating. Cue this conversation.
