i think i'm accidentally bringing up my kilo five grudgeposting for followers who weren't here when i was going through kilo five (hi, welcome to my house, everything is always in shambles), so here are your handy broad summary points of what i think about that if you wanted to know:

i'm very negative about that author (both for dumb nerd lore nitpick reasons and for more significant and real racist terf reasons) and have a very uncharitable take on her works. sometimes more uncharitable than is fair. but oh god i try so hard.

being angry aside, there are things that i will freely acknowledge are likable about that trilogy and halo really could stand to more clearly talk about how the unsc and oni are bad more often. (i thought hunt the truth handled the shady end of oni really well, if you want a rec.) these stories were more clear about that than usual, but also kept framing those things as cool necessary evils in a way that still bothers me.

but also a lot of kilo five felt like the author specifically soapboxing about how if you are having fun with certain tropes (especially about the spartans) you shouldn't be having fun because it's so horrible. (and yes, it is horrible, but it's also the point?)

her character assassination of halsey is emblematic of how 343 doesn't really understand halsey's character and has tried to turn a complicated and genuinely remorseful person (who still definitely did horrible things) into a flat evil scientist that they really obviously don't know what to do with anymore.

....anyway feel free to talk to me about it if you want, and also please know that if you liked them or disagree with me i don't think that makes someone my worst enemy or a badwrong person or w/e halo isn't that important.

i just got some very specific things out of those that were not good.

Pillowfort's been pushing their site pretty hard recently. Do you know if they ever got their security together? I remember you were posting / retweeting their assorted flaws after the site did a major revamp a while ago (last year ish?).

the pillowfort devs have been completely out of their depth since the start. ignorance of basic web safety protocol (the worst of which, to my knowledge, have been plugged) should not inspire trust and understanding in people. they are being given a ridiculous amount of leeway for errors that are very basic and should cause people to seriously consider what information they are potentially giving to the entire internet.

to be clear i harbor no ill will against them or know them or anything. its not weird grudgeposting. im just extra mean w/ my criticism bc they do not seem to fully grasp the concept that people are giving them very important information and they need to question if they are capable of handling the responsibility. like. i am not sure they actually have considered the ramifications or what they will do when (not if) they get hacked or someone finds a open hole in the code to climb through.

Even though Batman, Inc turned into this wet sogging nightmare (and even though I have NO idea how this works timing- or context-wise), I really liked that they referenced this. I quite liked the whole Wingman thing, I'm sure Jason did too, before everything went kersploosh.
