There’s been a trend on Instagram and elsewhere for the last few years of people uploading gameplay clips of driving around the fictional world of Grand Theft Auto V and the comments being filled with comments from people unaware the video is from a game (even if it’s posted by a GTA fan account!). I saw some comments on one today where people were (in all seriousness) asking why these dangerous drivers weren’t being arrested. (They called Lester Crest and had him bribe the cops for GTA$5,000, that’s why. But I digress.)

Of course not everybody knows the game and can immediately recognize locations, business and road names, vehicles and non-player characters. But it’s interesting how easy people can be fooled sometimes. And we haven’t even gotten to AI-created videos. Though as long as people in these videos keep looking like Eldrich Horrors, it’ll be a while.

But to be fair, GTA V and GTA Online (both celebrating their 10th anniversaries later this year) have gotten very realistic looking. So much so, there are videos where people have gone and put original LA locations side by side with the game and ... they get pretty close. Here is but one example:

I play GTA Online regularly. I’ve posted this before but after several years playing a character that looked like Jon Cryer’s version of Lex Luthor from Supergirl, I started GTAO over with a female character after some recommendations (funnier interactions, harder to get shot - that one was B.S. I can tell you - and more of a personality). Here’s a selfie I had her take last week.

One of my favorite things is to take her a place where other NPCs gather, activate a “hide from radar” option we have, and have her mix in until other players come along. I love it when they decide to start attacking NPCs at random. Yes, that is a thing. They don’t expect one of them to suddenly pull out an “Up n’ Atomizer” (affectionately known as a “boopy gun” for the sound it makes) and launch them across the street! LOL

okay hello here’s my gta vi wishlist because why not honestly :

• okay so to start off, i want the literal easter egg from vc to AT LEAST make some some of appearance. i don’t care that the hd and 3d universes are separate in my head they are the same.

• better security n shit like that on the online servers. (because imma assume that when gta vi finally comes out, gtao 2? won’t be far behind it)

• i’d like the rag doll physics from gta iv to come back to some extent, and also the car crash physics. that shit was and still is awesome.

• ^^ speaking of cars, i’d also like them to handle better. i really don’t like how they handle in v, they almost feel too loose? (although to be fair, from the leaks it looks like this wish might come true!)

• i think if they have cinemas in the game, one of michael’s movies should be showing.

• jerry kapowitz (the guy who found the diamonds then moved to vice city in iv) should make an appearance.

• ACCESSIBLE BUILDINGS!!!!! v is severely lacking in these n it sucks.

• at least one single player dlc. eflc was fuckin awesome n im so sad v didn’t have something like that.

• i really do not™️ want michael, trevor or franklin to make an appearance— simply because i’m scared that r* would kill them off !!!!

• ^^ if anyone does return from v, i hope their character models don’t make them look kinda unrecognisable. (looking right at u, packie mcreary)

• i’m gonna be completely honest, i’d like a third protagonist. (although— from the ‘leaked’ synopsis, this seems unlikely)

You have the best game in a niche that has one of the most consistent and dedicated fanbases. You make the single player one of the best games in the fucking decade, if not in gaming history as a whole...

And then, instead of giving even 1/5 of the attention you gave GTAO, you just toss RDO in the garbage.

You have a golden goose (that you made) and instead of feeding it properly and caring for its health, you just yeet it in a muddy pen and wait for what exactly? To be as successful as GTAO when you pay it as little attention as possible?

And when it doesn't meet your financial expectations, you just toss it on the road and wash your hands.

We don’t know!! But the update coming out in the next week or so says we’ll be working with the IAA again in some capacity (see below).

That being said, we usually have a contact that leads us through missions and stuff like that. 14 would make sense since our character already works with him and players love him. Other than him it would be Rackman, ULP, Karen or possibly Lester (???)

I suppose we’ll see! I could be completely wrong.

GTAV got yet another exploit. But this one's the big bad, like, crippling bad.

Just for starters, Rockstar Games doesn't even know about this yet. Which is embarrassing.

People are starting a community effort to inform rockstar via rockstar support n twitter.

It's an exploit to Ban and Corrupt someone's profile for GTAO. Change stats, basically be an admin. Even if, you are in single player. Yes deadass.

Now, I just...want to know what the mindset is here:

If I had to go out of my way to force a company's hand in fixing an exploit that renders playing utterly impossible, I simply wouldn't be that stupid, that much of a useful idiot. That's their job, and they refused. Okay. I'm gonna play a different game then? Move on?

You paid how much to still have to play moderator? They STILL have a hacking problem? Still no GTAIV like MP mode? Gotta sell shark cards?

thats not weird at all. if i was more active in the whole self shipping stuff i used to do, i would have a f/o that is a cop on nopixel. you just like the way the player plays the character is all. more power to you for having a f/o that is a nopixel character. if youre still lurking, who is it? i fancy sgt stubble myself. back a few years i even made a character on gtao that was my oc if i ever took the plunge into rp and she is kinda a self insert lmao

I HATE GTA ONLINE I HATE IT i emptied my car out + set it to no access to anyone cus i got pissed people at the start of the missions kept getting in and driving away without me and the fucker who took it blew it up with a sticky before i could run over to it and get in man i was GONNA allow access afterwards i just wanted to be the one to drive it!! fucker!!

Love how the gtao community all agreed that Pavel = best npc addition. Mainly because he's actually nice to the player. We're all horrible criminals but listen we just want KINDNESS!!!!!!!

For fans of early 1990s-style arcade games, a great source of nostalgia is, oddly enough, Grand Theft Auto Online. Hidden (well, not really hidden, but you need to know where to find them) within the game are numerous arcade game consoles that are full-out games in their own right. One of my favourites is The Wizard's Ruin, which is a spoof of Golden Axe, complete with a riff on its iconic anti-drugs message screen (I saw a post recently mentioning Golden Axe and it reminded me of this in-game game). It's challenging and fun and, best of all, you don't get any wanted levels from the cops for going after people with swords.

Pictured is my in-game character posing next to her personal console which comes free with a business you can "buy" called the Celebrity Solution Agency (so called as it provides celebs in the game with trouble-shooting services - read literally). You can also optionally buy one for a video arcade you can obtain in order to start the Diamond Casino Heist mission. Not a fan of the heist but the Arcade is one of my favourite places to "hang out".

(You can create two characters in GTAO. I created both a male and a female character. My male character looks like Jon Cryer's version of Lex Luthor from Supergirl. It was simpler to play just one so I stuck with my female character who is approaching Level 700; a couple weeks ago she "celebrated" her 7th anniversary in the game. GTA gifts players with a special virtual party hat on their character's "birthday" which is how I knew about the anniversary; I don't mark that date on my calendar)

PS: Someone has posted to Youtube in-game video of Wizard's Ruin if you want to check it out. It is a spoof remember, but still tough - I've never gone this far in the game.

I’m a pc player since I don’t own any controllers and yes, I’m using graphic mods for my screenshots. Here’s some shots that were taken from a clean version and a modded version comparison.

Story Mode/Single Player:

It’s up to player’s preference. Some might enjoy the modded graphic, some might like the original one more. You can still get a good shot in a clean game version, the downside would be the limited camera angle in Rockstar Editor which could be frustrating.

like there’s so much more to online than people think
