Wangxian arranged marriage au is making me feel absolutely feral rn, the hurt/comfort or even angst potential it has is off the charts. Like imagine taking bright, exuberant 18/19 year old WWX and marrying him into the stifling Gusu Clan and their 3,000 rules, half of which seem like they’re designed specifically to spite him and his light-hearted and free spirited personality. Most people in the clan start off weary towards him and only grow colder the more he fails to conform to the rules. To add insult to injury his new husband is basically the pinnacle of obedience and is absolutely no-nonsense about WWX being the same. Now just like in canon LWJ is quickly warming up to and falling in love with WWX but unlike in canon WWX isn’t just in the cloud recesses for a short time surrounded by his siblings and new friends. This is the rest of his life and he is quickly starting to wilt under the isolation, culture-shock, and pressure of trying and failing to conform to this new life without losing himself in the process. LWJ, of course, being the naturally isolated and emotionally stunted person he is doesn’t truly notice how not okay WWX is until its already really bad. You then have the choice of taking the angst path where this just completely ends up breaking them both or the much softer hurt/comfort path where they learn how to heal and grow together and change things for the better. Either way I need it injected into my blood stream asap.

(Bonus points if part of WWX healing is him bonding with baby junior quartet, especially Jingyi for reasons that should be obvious to everyone)

I'm imagining little hot springs in Gusu? Like, offshoots of the big one in the ladies' compound? There's maps of a lot of the common ones, and people go and soak. the junior quartet go off and spend an evening at one with a ton of snacks and booze.

For some reason, the juniors keep deciding to be sardines in Lan Xichen's hot spring instead of hanging out at any of the other ones. Lan Xichen is at his wits' end, but also a little touched that the kids want to hang out near their old uncle's house all the time. <3

Hmmm….. as for fics that don’t have the bashing tag, Teen Project to Save the World on AO3 is really good. It’s a “watching the show” fic in which the Junior quartet use one of Wei Wuxian’s spells that he was working to go to an alternate timeline and try to Fix-It, pulling all the major characters (save Wei Wuxian) into this void where they watch the events of the book (with some donghua elements). It’s set just before the Gusu arc and it’s actually really neutral toward JC. Holding his feet to the fire while showing the fifteen-year-old him a lot of grace because he’s still a kid at this time. It’s well-written, balances its three plots really well, gives the Jiangs some desperately needed family therapy, fleshes out Madame Jin, gives a lot of interesting characterization for Wen Ruohan and Wen Xu and lets Lan Qiren and Nie Mingjue reflect on their own flawed worldviews. My favourite part was watching the fifteen-year-old Lan Wangji who hasn’t met Wei Wuxian yet slowly fall in love with him.

11. Looking for a longfic I read a while back. The elements I remember are that the Lan figured out that WWX wasn't being properly compensated/treated as a head disciple of the Jiang and the deliberate stunting of his academic education was a violation of (handwavy) Jianghu high academia codes of conduct. As a result the Lan got WWX his backpay and the Jiang teachers got shunned by their academic peers.
