atsumu yawns deeply, loud and obnoxious. he earns a few looks from the other passengers on the bus, but he doesn’t notice. it’s been a long week.

practice has kicked his ass, he’s pretty sure he pulled something in his shoulder tonight, and he’s starving. all he wants to do is to eat and go to bed.

his tired legs stumble off the bus and onto the sidewalk. the corner store on his way home shines almost like an oasis, and he’s very thankful to stop there on his way home. he swings open the door and makes a beeline to the chips.

his eyes scan the shelves tiredly, not even sure why he’s looking so long considering he always gets the same thing.

atsumu’s phone buzzes in this pocket, and as if the gods have smiled on him, his brother texts him to swing by the shop for a bite to eat. he smiles, heart swelling a bit at his brothers care.

“sorry! could i slip in front of you real quick? just need to grab a couple things,” atsumu looks to his side as you wave at him with a smile. his heart skips a beat.

“a-absolutely, i’m so sorry,” he takes a step back and scratches his head, but you wave him off.

“no worries, i know these isles are a little small,” you grab the couple things you need and place them in your basket.

he snorts. “don’t i know it,” he notices you yawn. “long day?”

you nod. “i’m a nurse. every day is a long day,”

atsumu laughs again. “i can imagine!”

“and you?” you walk out of the isle and he follows you, much to your delight. “what do you do, mr….”

“atsumu! miya atsumu, but ya can call me atsumu. and i’m a volleyball player, miss…” he nods towards you.

“aika. you can call me aika,” you laugh as you begin to check out.

“pretty,” he says with a smirk, and you’re glad that you’re facing away from him so that you can compose yourself. “so aika, any fun plans tonight?”

he holds the door open for you and the two of you step outside and into the evening sun.

“no, not really. just relaxing a little. how about you?”

“actually, my brother owns an onigiri shop just down the street. he invited me to dinner,” he kicks at the sidewalk for a moment. “would ya like to join me? i know it’s last minute, but-“

“i would love to!”

he smiles wide. “oh! awesome!” he lets out a small sigh of relief before leading the way. “sorry to ask ya after ya bought all them snacks,”

“onigiri sounds better anyway,” you smile again, and atsumu thinks he might pass out.

the walk is rather short, but full of conversation. he asks about your pets, asks about your hobbies, favorite movies. he tells you about his, as well as his favorite snacks and his brother, and how he feels like he’s been over working himself.

“here we are,” his hand pushes open the door, wincing at the little bells that chime your arrival.

“welcome to-oh hey ya scrub,” osamu peaks over the counter in front of him and smirks. “nice to meet ya, i’m this idiots twin,” you giggle and atsumu groans. he pulls out a seat for you which you take quickly, and osamu nods towards you. “ya must be the ‘cutie’ ‘tsum was mentioning,”

“okay, that’s enough,” atsumu seethes, cheeks now a bright shade of pink. osamu only laughs, getting backs to preparing dinner for the two of you. when he retreats back to the kitchen, atsumu turns to you.

“i meant that, by the way.”

“meant what?”

“that yer a cutie, aika.”
