SOUMA-HEN 2021 CAST

Hi, humans and oni, all fans of Hakumyu!

Since Souma-hen is a thing again I’ve recovered my original cast announcement post and updated it. The info about the actors is a mix between what I’ve found about them and info from the official cast page, but I haven’t included every past myu/stage play in the official info, so I’d recommend checking it if you’re interested in seeing more of any of these people.

Without further ado, I present you the official cast for the 2021 version of Musical Hakuoki Souma-hen:

Mizuki Umetsu (梅津瑞樹) is Kazue Souma

28 years old, his Twitter is @MizukiUmetsu, and he’s been in Musical Touken Ranbu and the Sanrio Boys stage play .

Risa Matsuzaki (松崎莉沙) is Chizuru Yukimura

She’s a member of Roys, a Japanese female duo chorus group. Playing Chizuru in this myu will be her first time as an actress. Her Twitter is @risadegozaimasu and she’s 24 years old.

Hidetoshi Kubota (久保田秀敏) is Toshizo Hijikata

Has worked in films and dramas before, also has myu/stage play experience (Sengoku Basara stage play , Moriarty the Patriot myu, etc.). He’s 33 years old and his Twitter is @kubotahidetoshi.

Shuji Kikuchi (菊池修司) is Souji Okita

First difference with the 2020 cast! Shuji Kikuchi replaces Shogo Yamazaki, who first appeared in Hakumyu in Shitan Hijikata-hen. He’s 25 and his Twiiter is @kutisyu. He’s been in some stage plays before, like the Pirates of the Frontier UtaPri stage play .

Shoichiro Oomi (大海将一郎) is Hajime Saito

His Twitter is @shoichiro_oomi. The protagonist/”your” character in the Fate/GO Babylonia Myu, also has some experience as a seiyuu (in fact google doesn’t list him as an actor but as a voice actor) and is/was in a group called "Hi! Superb"

Yuta Higuchi (樋口裕太) is back as Heisuke Todou!

His first Hakumyu was Shitan Hijikata-hen! He is 25 and he won a Junon Superboy contest (Most Photogenic) and according to Anime on Stage he’s been in other myus/stage plays, like Ensemble Stars and Yona of the Dawn. According to the cast page he’s been in Ao no Exorcist and Hitman Reborn stage plays too. His Twitter is @higuchi24yuta.

Ryousuke Koike (小池亮介) is Nagakura Shinpachi

Second change in the cast, he’s replacing Yuta Kishimoto, who was Nagakura in both Shitan Hijikata-hen and Shitan Kazama-hen. He’s 25 and his Twitter is @ryosuke19951117. He was Akito/Agito in the Air Gear myu, and according to the cast page he wants everyone to think that Nagakura Shinpachi is cool (literally, 「永倉新八カッコいいな」kakkoii and everything)

Shouta Kawakami (川上将大) is Sanosuke Harada

He’s been in Tenimyu, Rice on stage, Hitman Reborn and Touken Ranbu stages/myus, among others. He’s 27 and his Twitter is @rjpmission. An anecdote: a few weeks ago someone I follow on Twitter went to see Rice on stage and he was one of the actors performing, which made me wonder if Souma-hen would happen since people from the cast were working on other things and I supposed that meant the situation in Japan was good enough to resume events like stage plays, included those that had been cancelled.

Teruma (輝馬) is back as Keisuke Sannan!

Sannan since Hakumyu Reimeiroku, he’s been in Kuromyu (William T Spears), Bungou Stray Dogs stage play, the Nanatsu no Taizai stage play and Tenimyu. His Twitter is @teruma_060 and he’s 31.

This makes me really happy! I still prefer Ryosuke Mikata, but he’s showed that he deserves the role, so I hope he stays in Hakumyu for many years to come! And I’m still mad that Teruma wasn’t in the Tango on the Campania Kuromyu...

Taizo Shiina (椎名鯛造) is back as Susumu Yamazaki!

First appeared in Shitan Hijikata-hen, and he’s been in some Sengoku Basara and Danganronpa stage plays, among others. He’s 34 and his Twitter is @TaizoShiina.

Taira Imata (井俣太良) is back as Isami Kondou!!!

Best dad since Okita-hen (second Hakumyu) and by this point, everyone’s senpai, what else can be said about this man??? If you’ve watched any Hakumyu other than Saito-hen, you already know him. Great man and actor, he’s 45 and his Twitter is @TAIRANT1975.

These are the characters/actors & actress that I covered in my first Souma-hen cast post. I actually wrote another one with the rest of the cast, but thanks to a broken mouse the whole post got deleted when it was almost finished. Time to redeem myself!

Syuya Sunagawa (砂川脩弥) is Saburo Miki!

Replacing Allen Kohatsu in the role of Miki, he’s 26 and his Twitter is @suna_syu_. It’s his first time in a musical, but he’s in the Kamen Rider Zero One drama. According to the Kamen Rider Wikia, he won the Avex Boys Award in 2016.

Masashi Sonomura (園村将司) is Risaburo Nomura!

He’s 22 and he’s @masashisonomura on Twitter. He’s been in Tenimyu and has done some stuff on TV (the cast page lists some things but I’m not familiar with them ;_;)

Masafumi Yokoyama (横山真史) is Kyuju Amagiri!

He’s 34 and he’s @masafumi21yoko on Twitter. He’s been in Touken Ranbu, Ikemen Sengoku and Toki no Kizuna stages.And as my friend and Amagiri’s biggest fan Lawrichai pointed out, he played Amagiri’s grandpa/relative in the Toki no Kizuna stage.

Takuma Sueno (末野卓磨) is back as Kyo Shiranui!

He’s 36 and he’s @sueno0724 on Twitter. His first Hakumyu was Shitan Kazama hen. Has been in the Sengoku Basara stage play and the Rantaro Shinobu myu (this one wasn’t that long ago so I remember seen funny pics of this on Twitter).

Hiroyuki Kawamoto (川本裕之) is back as Kodo Yukimura!

Egg dad since the times of Harada hen, he doesn’t have a Twitter account and apparently there isn’t that much info about him on Google D:

And... drum roll a big round of applause for our returning demon, the original, the one and only, SHOGO SUZUKI (鈴木勝吾) AS CHIKAGE KAZAMA!!!

I already spoiled this in my Souma-hen is back post but I’m sooooooooooooooo happy to see him back. He’s @Shogo_Suzuki_ on Twitter (where he’s posted photos of his Hakumyu-watching sessions more than once),he’s 31 and he played Kazama from the very beginning in Saito-hen until Live 2. During his absence from Hakumyu he didn’t stop acting, some of you may remember my post about his appearance in the Moriarty the Patriot myu.

Not that I dislike Yoshihide Sasaki (Hijikata in Reimei, and Kazama in Harada-hen and the 2020 Souma-hen cast), but I will always see him as my dear Viscount Druitt from Kuromyu. And let’s be honest, Shogo has his “own brand” of Kazama. He took the character and made it his own, having a unique way of portraying him and enjoying every last bit of it.

And that was the complete main cast! This time we had all the info from the start so I don’t think a follow-up post will be necessary.

As an ending note, I would like to dedicate this post to Serizawa’s actor, Akira Kubodera, who passed away last month. I’m sure he would love to see that everyone has been hoping for Souma-hen to return and that the Hakuoki Shinsengumi, or at least its spirit, can’t be defeated.

Hakumyu LIVE 2! Thoughts

1. IMO the current cast’s voices are... not very powerful? It’s not bad, but they are not very memorable. I remember Hirose Daisuke’s “Show time ga” well. But in LIVE 2, it didn’t stand out.

2. When Aramaki Yoshihiko said “Saigo moriagate iku yo”, I had throwback feels. <3

3. Suzuki Shogo has the most consistent, amazing voice. <3

4. I’m annoyed because in any and all iterations, Okita Souji has his slender fingers wrapped around my tender fangirl heart. <3

5. Chi-sama? Seriously, Chikage? xD His face during the whole Chi-kama scene is so adorable ughh. From disapproving to ughh I know I’m popular but you don’t have to to I guess it’s not bad. xD

6. First time seeing Shiranui topless! Kashiwagi Yuusuke is actually pretty toned... *^* Heck, a lot of them are!

7. Meanwhile at the side of the stage... #bromance

8. And at the back of the stage, Souji attacks an extra’s nipples. D:

9. Unrelated, but I’m very pleased every time Saito shows off his sternocleidomastoid muscle because it’s extremely relevant to me as a dentist. :D

10. The cast’s harmonization sounds really good. <3

11. I wasn’t able to watch Reimeiroku, so the medley with Serizawa’s assassination was new and exciting for me. The lines, the acting, the choreography... it was great! I like Serizawa’s wig and beard, they are really nicely done. (meanwhile, why can’t they get Sano’s hair right???)

12. Yazaki Hiroshi!! I really missed his singing. He had a really strong and consistent voice. And he portrayed Hijikata really well, even nailing Shinichiro Miki’s voice. And he’s really cute too ahhhh.

13. The cast interacting with Yazaki was really hilarious! Ahhhh Kondo-san! ;A;

14. I’LL WAIT FOR YOU YAZAKI-SAN! <3

15. HELLO HE’S TOO ADORABLE I CANNOT.

16. I squealed so hard when I heard the tune to Paint It Blood. Okita is my favourite character and Paint It Blood’s chorus is incredibly catchy and I really love the lyrics. Aramaki-san’s smug look... UGHHHH.

17. Sano’s solo songs were pretty fun. The way he stroked his spear, fufufu. And that teasing “Wait for me!” I can’t wait to watch Harada-hen!

18. The return of Oni no Matsuei! The part where they harmonize “kakugo shiro”... Ahhh I love the old songs. TT

19. Suzuki-san seemed so emotional when they finished the final song. I know that this is his last Hakumyu. But was this the last stage? Even till through the cheering section, he seemed so sad.... :’< (I later find out that yes, it was the last performance) I’m gonna miss his Kazama very much. It wasn’t the same Kazama from the game, but he created a Kazama that was very memorable.

20. I didn’t realize that it was also Hashimoto Shohei’s last Hakumyu. The feels. :’<

21. Everyone was so emotional. TT

Just like the first LIVE, LIVE2 was a lot of fun to watch! I’m so glad to be able to watch Hakumyu up till now. I’m looking forward to watch Harada-hen! ^^

[PART 2] HAKUMYU LIVE2 - SPECIAL GUEST EXTRAS - Matsuda Ryo

Rightio, I am not sure if anyone likes this but I am continuing! (Whenever I have the mood of course :p). I will do Izawa Yuuki-kun’s guest corner after this because I enjoyed his appearance because he gives out many behind-the-scenes stories (although I iz biased only on Piroshi & Gakkun’s Hijikata because they look more similar to HijiHiji #/CHIIzurumode) or maybe Piroshi’s (but Piroshi’s one is better in the honpen version :D funnier). Then lastly Gomoto Naoya-kun and Shuuto-kun. Let’s see if I have the time

PART02: Matsuda Ryo-kun (12/08, Kyoto, EVENING)

Mori-Producer: This is Hakumyu butai after 2 1/2 years for you right?

Ryo-kun: Yeah

M-P: A lot of memories

R: Definitely and just now, just in time when I was about to enter this stage I passed by Saitou Hajime (Hashimoto Shohei-kun ^^) and I thought he has such a gooood expression~ (his face)! And when I saw that thought, I am glad he is the Saitou Hajime now.

M-P: … The first Hakumyu was in Ikebukuro, a small place that first just about 200 persons.

R: Yeah

M-P: Matsuda-san was giving his all XD

R: And I was talking in fullblast Kansai-ben too XD Wa, that brings back memories.

M-P: Back then I kinda judged would this kid be able to talk properly.. (Tokyo’s accent / without Kansai-accent) XD

R: lol and now I can speak fluently XD

M-P: Such a reliable person

R: That time I was just 21 years old M-P: So that was 4 years ago..

R: Yes this year I am turning 25 years old

*fans cheering*

Thank you, but not yet it is next month.

M-P: Right now lets watch the digest (Hakumyu clips) of 21y/o you

M-P: Definitely cool right

R: Do you really mean it? :p

M-P: I mean it!

R: Did you see that fukuchou just now? What the heck was that? (Piroshi’s scene appeared in the digest too and fans went UUUWAA~)

You see before I came I received a LINE message from Yazaki-san (Piroshi)

AUDIENCES: What did he sayyy?

R: Oh he said ‘ライブがんばれよ’ it was all in Hiragana -.- But that’s just like him XD And I said I will do my best anyway.

M-P: Do you still remember your lines (Saitou Hajime’s)?

R: More or less I do

M-P: We wanna hear it right?

AUDIENCES & ME: YASSSS

*M-P passes him a Katana* R: You know just now (noon performance), I wrongly placed the Katana on my left side (** because Saitou Hajime is famous for being a left-handed Samurai so he always had his katana on his right side.. in which as far as I know when I was really into Japanese history back then XD;; — it is not an acceptable / out of norm for a ‘samurai’ to behave in such a way, duh right? And that’s why Saitou Hajime felt so strongly with Shinsengumi, because they accepted him for his skills ^^)

M-P: lol that was a mistake

R: Yeah it was

Audiences: KAKOIII

R: Thank youu //// Ahem.. eh wait.. (he forgets his line here XD) Audiences: GANBAREE!!

R: *recites Saitou Hajime’s line* If you have conviction, be it a comrade or not, you’d cut. blablah

R: During Kazama-hen, there was a scene of me with Amagiri-san (Gomoto Naoya), it was a scene in which Amagiri-san lines was to explain something. And Saitou Hajime, me was supposed to be at standing at the left side of the stage over there, to listen. There was such a scene. And just ONCE, I think it was Kobe-performance, I didn’t appear (to stage :p). So the Amagiri-san at that time just went through with his lines on his own alone. And I was actually just at the side-stage seated, waiting for the next scene. I sat and I sat. Till suddenly Heisuke, Ikeda Junya-kun came running and yelled ‘GET OUT THERE!’ and I was just slightly annoyed like wth? ‘HA? WHY SHOULD I?’ and he said ‘IT IS YOUR SCENE, GET OUT ON THE STAGE’. And I realized belatedly ‘Eh?…… EHHHH?!!!’

& ever since that incident, I really get ready but for every performances after that, any other casts Shuuto-kun or Manji-san would stand to look over me and make sure it goes well and each time I will *fighting pose* to them (lolol XDD)

R: & then another mistake I did was, there was a time I left my Katana and that was supposed to be my final fighting scene. I think that was also during Kazama-hen and I was in a state of not being able to do anything at all. And then I made eye-contact with Suga-chan (the ensemble), and just forcefully grabbed his Katana away and started my sword fighting performance. (LOLLL OMG THIS RYO-KUN XD)

And there is a line of Saitou Hajime that Mori-san likes.. and at that time it really came to me.. I thought, ahhh it’s meee?! XDD (hehe I am not sure what’s the translation something about one’s failure ruining one-self.. one of Saitou’s complicated line but at that time, that line came to his head and feels like he himself is being ‘scolded’ by Saitou Hajime).

[01:43:50 - Kazama-Shougo enters stage]

Audiences: CHIIKAMAA! CHIISAMAA!

Ryo: Chi-samaa *waves* I think we’ve met since a long time ago

Kazama-Shougo: I dont know about that

R: Ah.. I see, sorry

K-S: Was there a guy who was this flashy? As far as I remember it was a manly brusque guy..

R: *flustered*

K-S: He was the first man to be at the core of Hakumyu

Audiences: WOOOO~

M-P: Do you have any impression of Matsuda-san?

K-S: Of this guy?

M-P: Yeah you start first

K-S: Hmm let’s see.. he has a Cute smile.

Ryo: :p :p :p Well I am happy…. but when you’re complimented by Kazama Chikage you see.. (then i cannot catch what he said… ; v ;)

Kazama-san, then did Shougo-san’s said anything about me? (** Because in part one of Ryo-kun’s appearance, Kazama-Shougo said Shougo-kun is his close friend, as if he and Shougo is two separate entities :p)

K-S: Hmm let’s see.. hmmm.. He said you’re cute

Audience: UUUUU~

K-S: Mm, like a little brother, but he is really reliable (at work), and a passionate guy

R: Aww stop it! *flustered and happy, slaps Kazama’s shoulder and realized what he did before he stepped back* Sorry sorry I thought it was Suzuki Shougo-san XD

M-P: Then how about you about Suzuki Shougo-san?

R: (He complimented he is a wonderful senpai, it is fun to mess around and act with him etc)

K-S: I will tell him (Suzuki Shougo)

R: Thank you, next time, let’s go and have a drink together — the 3 of us (meaning Ryo-kun, Kazama & Shougo-kun, lol XD)

K-S: Yeah, i think that would not be possible

(it is noisy here but i think he said it is not possible to ‘materialize’ it into reality because 3 persons.. Kazama is not a real XD)

K-S: Are we gonna do that (cross sword)?

R: Hm? Lets

[01:46:33]

R: *adjusting his Yukata* Sorry in advance if you see my underwear (LOL i dont think the fans would mind lol XD;;) Btw, it is Black coloured today (LOL he is telling everyone in advance XD)

K-S: Wait, can you do.. (something i dont catch)

R: That scene.. that..

K-S: Oh that, what? which one? (LOL)

R: That one with a ‘Bang’

K-S: ‘Bang?’

R: Chizuru *passes his mic to M-P who is now ‘Chizuru’ XD

*acts out the sword fight — which is I think the part in which he cuts Kazama to death final scene XD*

M-P: Awesoe […]

R: That brings a lot of memory right

S-K: Yep, I think we were a bit flustered

M-P: Any words for Matsuda-san?

S-K: Hm, Hakumyu started from this guy.

I think all the humans who have participated in Hakumyu has made it to what it is today. From now on too, this project.. no.. I would be very happy if everyone can continue to raise their passionate love for Hakumyu and Shinsengumi. Yoroshiku.

R: And the noon performance, it was Suzuki Shougo-san and Kashiwagi Yuusuke-san’s 100th Hakumyu performance.. wait wait *runs to get presents*

Could I give this to you both? XD For you 100th performance, and for being and supporting Musical Hakuouki, until now I am very grateful and respect the both of you, please accept this (He had only one bouquet so Shougo-kun and Yuusuke-kun have to share it :p)

S-K: Presents accepted

R: And since you like Sake (alcohol), so I brought one too.

S-K: If I were to drink this with that guy, I bet it is gonna finish right away (lol)

R: Yoroshiku onegaishimasu

S-K: I’m thankful.

*Kazama leaves the stage*

R: It has been 4 years plus, and this is the 2nd Hakumyu LIVE too and to see so many people coming here loving Hakumyu, I am so so happy. & just like the Saitou Hajime’s line I did just now, Fukuchou’s line (Magai mono ga nan darou ga, tsuranukya, Makoto ni naru which is Fake or whatever, if you push through then it will be Reality/Truth) — I still keep that line even now, as an actor. I thought that line is really the ‘Truth’ (Makoto). Being with everyone today, made me think about it even more. (I think the context is like, just like the line, they did their very best to come to this point in which so many people adores Hakumyu — it has become a Reality ‘Truth’.) I hope Hakumyu will always be a piece that is always loved by everyone. Thank you so much for today.

Stage and Musical ask game

i was tagged by @allyyyyy0619 and this idea is really fun ! i really likes going over all that i remmembered. And remember this is my opinion and doesn’t mean i am more right than you !

1) I am quite recent on the internet, i came to this wonderfull world from being an Xjapan and a tokusatsu fan, the first contact with musicals was 1 or 2 years ago through a french youtuber who made fun of shonen anime and showed a little tennimyu. I found it funny but not i don't like sports shonen very much. I started really looking into hakumyu a little under year ago because i wanted to look into more roles played by junya ikeda, and it was a whole new world opening for me.

2) The first question leads naturally to the second : the whole reason i started japanese musicals is a lack of Ikeda Junya series or movies... He is a good actor and i love his communicative smile and energy.

3) For stages i loved, it’s more complicated but i’ll stick to streams or dvd out this year :

- Tousute saien (thanks in part for the subtitles since it's one of the first butai i watched and loved so much i tried some without)

- Tousute 2 (i loved the dvd version more than the stream and am impatiently waiting for the subs)

- Pattaliro even if i need subs for the madness of the middle portion i laughed so much seeing it.

- Rengoku ni Warau (The previous stage is stellar and this one is on par with it and has a very good cast)

4) Concerning least favorite, i'll repurpose the question as the ones i couldn't watch until the end but it doesn't mean it's bad, just not the ones i loved and could not tear my eyes from despite my limited japanese :

- Black rose alice (hard subject matter)

- Digimon butai (on my to watch list since summer but the puppets bug me)

- Diamond no ace stages (a sport that i know nothing about the stage lost me completely)

5) For the musical that were released(stream or dvd) this year the top 3 is difficult but these are my obsessions :

- i need to cheat on the date for this one : the entirety of Toumyu since i fell in love with shunya at first viewing and the entire first team in general.

- Hakumyu harada-hen (first stream purchase ever after loving the first 6 hakumyu)

- Ensemble Stars Judge of Knights

- B-pro theatre comes at quite close 4th place...

6) Least favorite musicals is easier, again it doesn't mean bad just those i watched at most twice and don't plan seeing again :

- Rusted Armors, probably because of the “rap” portion and the struggle to record it.

- Heinemyu i don’t know why, i’m just okay not seeing it again

- Kingpri (i can't get “behind” a certain scene)

7) Favorite actors frankly i have to do 2 rankings, my darlings and the genuinely good actors i like :

1 Ohira Shunya

2 Sakurai Keito

3 Kashiwagi Yuusuke

4 Higuchi Yuta

But when it comes to best roles this year :

1 Suzuki Hiroki

2 Aramaki Yoshihiko

3 Suzuki Shogo

4 Kuroba mario / Ryuji Sato (can’t choose)

8) For me Mario, Ryuji and Tsubasa in a smaller mesure are out of this pool. Rookie or rising star actors :

1 Kashiwagi Yuusuke (not had the best choices in stages but osomatsu-san seems a winner for him)

2 Sana Hiroki (this kid has a bright futur)

3 Ohira Shunya (i think he is about to outgrow the rising star category and i have high hopes for him)

4 Spi (i can’t belive Toumyu was one of his first japanese musicals)

9) For butai related drama/movie i won't be original but only for this one a won't cut on the 2017 date :

- Five (mario and ryuji of course)

- Hakuoki ssl series and movie (and tengentally the stages)

- Ayamekun (because of mario)

- counting sheep and shake the balance (someya toshiyuki, tomoru akazawa and chantomo)

- messiah polar night (well i'm still trying to collect the pieces of my heart over this one)

10) For the best singing voice these are the names that imediately pop in my mind :

- suzuki shougo

- sato ryuji

- ogoe yuuki

- sakiyama tsubasa

- spi

11 ) I’ll be brutally honnest on the one that had to grow on me :

Toumyu mihotose live portion has taken a lot of time in the year to grow on me but let’s admit it’s not a good idea to watch touken ranbu sai 2016 and mihotose back to back because of the godly level of ryuji/mario/ogotan/shunya.

12) Well, hard question this one since i barely watch anime and read manga but for the properties adaptations i am curious about :

- Donten ni Warau gaiden (more of the series of warau is good)

- Final Fantasy would be fun

- XXX holic maybe already done i don’t know !

13) I'm not in a lot of fandom but hakuoki and touken ranbu are very welcoming

14) I’ve been in the fandom for around 10 month only.

15) As a recent addition, i love how open is the international community on tumblr. I have been really nice welcomed and found people to discuss with and i will do my best to be less shy when toumyu comes to paris again !

About the future of Hakumyu (updated version 20th of July 2023)

We followed Hakumyu for several years, and are still excited about the same story, even we watched uncountable times.

So what future does Hakumyu have? Which productions are awaiting us in the next years?

First if all we have a new writer and director, named Nishida Daisuke. He "created" two new series, the Shitan (Kazama & Hijikata) and Shinkai (Souma, Saito & Sannan) as well as LIVE3.

As of the 20th June of 2023 Shinkai Hijikata Toshizō Hen was announced. This date is also the historical Hijikata's death date. But it isn't Nishida, who is in charge.

We have already "explored" routes and "new" routes. (New routes with year are been already aired or scheduled)

Which are:

Explored:

Saitou Hajime (twice)

Okita Souji

Hijikata Toshizou (thrice) (+2024)

Kazama Chikage (twice)

Toudou Heisuke

Harada Sanosuke

Other:

Shinsengumi Kitan

Reimeiroku

And new:

Souma Kazue (2020→2021)

Sannan Keisuke (2023)

Sakamoto Ryoma

Nagakura Shinpachi

Yamazaki Susumu

Iba Hachirou

Shitan

is a series, which follows the screenwriting of Mōri Nobuhiro, but is directed by Mr. Nishida.

So the stories and routes in included are, what we all already know, which makes it 10 possible productions (of which we already have 2, so 8 future productions). But...

Shinkai

is a series written and directed by Nishida. I think, I wasn't the only one expecting there to be only new routes. But after the announcement of Shinkai Saito it made it much more. So we have the new routes and old ones, which make it 16 possiblities (14, if we count Souma Kazue Hen and the new one out)

And with Hijikata's third Hen (or rather fourth time, the left options are back to 15 options)

But...

Now someone could think: "Great, there will be 22 new productions." There won't be, because it is highly unlikely that one route gets a Shinkai and a Shitan production. So with what I calculated, we have 5 new Shinkai routes and 7 either Shinkai or Shitan old routes. Which make it a good chance that Hakumyu will be there even after another ten years. There are of course also other possibilities: for example: we finally get the Yukimura Kodo Hen 😜 or there will be a Hakumyu Uragata, or other stories based on Drama CDs and other game series related to Hakuouki. Also there is the chance we have more LIVEs.

Forget what I said as Hijikata Toshizō got a OG, a Shitan AND a Shinkai, we have the possibility of 21 possibilities.😅

Cast Stay, Comeback, Guests, Retire, Changes

We always wonder, who will be part of the cast, when a new musical is announced. (Everything is based on speculations or statements of actors)

Who will stay?

The cast that started the Shinkai series should stay for a while I think, but from what I observed single roles may change, but I think the majority will stay, only of course Chizuru will change everytime.

Comeback

We've seen several comebacks by now, like Sazaki Hideyoshi after three musicals and even in a different role. Than of course Suzuki Shogo, who played the first and forth generation Kazama Chikage, has returned. For Shinkai Saito Hen second generation Saitou, Hashimoto Shohei has returned. I personally think, we can expect more old cast to return. At least to Hakumyu LIVE 3 as guests. If you're are following the official Twitter account of Hakumyu, you may have noticed, that many of the old cast expressed their feelings about Hakuouki. So it is easy to believe, that we see a few of them again.

Guests

For the 10th anniversary of Hakumyu in general and Saitou Hajime in particular, the first Hakumyu-pair Matsuda Ryo (first generation Saito Hajime) and Yoshida Hitomi (first generation Yukimura Chizuru) made a guest appearance.

As well as in LIVE3 Takasaki Shota (third generation Yamazaki Susumu), Yazaki Hiroshi (first generation Hijikata Toshizou), Kashiwagi Yuusuke (first generation Shiranui Kyo), Naya Takeru (third generation Saitou Hajime) and Matsuda Gaku (fourth generation Hijikata Toshizou) made their appearance.

Even if they don't reprise their role many of the former cast is still attached to Hakumyu and I don't think that will change so fast.

Retire

According to interviews with Taira, we don't have to fear, we even might see him till the 'end of this dream'. I believe it was the special interview between Nishida, Suzuki and Imata, where it was stated that Imata had become the soul or backbone of Hakumyu. Even though some actors might retire from Hakumyu, it creates the chance to see new actors and their interpretation of our beloved characters.

Change

Since we had a Shinkai Routes, where extra characters appeared, we likely have a changeable part of the cast. That was confirmed by an interview about the new Shinkai Souma Hen. Which means, we had Souma, Nomura and Miki. And will probably have Sakamoto, Nakaoka, Motoyama and Iba be included. Also charakters that only occur in a specific route to be important (which were already part of the show) for example: Nagumo Kaoru or Sen-Hime, other like Kimigiku and Shimada or again Inoue. Or if there will be an Uragata Play, a whole cast change??

Also there could be a writer or director or composer change, but I seriously don't know and I have nothing, which indicates that.

So about that it is confirmed that Hakumyu goes back to Mouri's hands for a while. As he said in this interview, 'there's no case like Hakumyu'.

Conclusion

For the Future of Hakumyu is many hope, I think, although there are many uncertain things, so maybe it's impossible to wether it will be 10 years or only 5 years lying ahead. But there is a tomorrow, and that is important. As long Hakumyu will stay in our hearts, it will be fine, whatever happens.

Hakumyu Tag Game!

It has taken me a while, but I have finally finished the questions (at this post) given to me by @allyyyyy0619! I am sorry for them being answered so late but I had to think back and re-watch a couple of them to answer the questions.

To remind everyone now, these are my opinions and everyone’s is different from my own. You can feel free to disagree with me, but no hateful comments please. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

1. Which musical was the first that you have watched? Your impressions on the overall production?

The first musical I watched from the Hakumyu brand was actually Hijikata-hen. Overall, I absolutely loved it as I have heard of the actual game (but I have never played it) and seeing this as something different from most other musicals I had seen before this. The songs were all catchy, the storyline was really great and the actors did really well and it was good to see a few familiar faces when watching it for the first time.

2. Which musical is your favourite in terms of the song performances and why?

My favourite musical for the song performances…That one is a tough one to answer as they all have their low and high points. But if I have to choose, it would be Hijikata-hen for me as it was the first one I had seen and the songs just blew me away.

3. Which musical is your favourite in terms of the storyline and why?

My favourite when it comes to the storyline is Okita-hen. Although it was played by Hirose Daisuke which is one of the many actors I like. Okita Souji is someone different as he became ill throughout his time during the Shinsengumi and he wanted to keep it a secret until Chizuru found out. And to have that moment at the end when he finally falls for her makes it all worthwhile. I haven’t seen Harada-hen’s storyline yet, but as others do upload little snips of it, it looks really interesting!

4. Which musical is your least favourite in terms of the song performances and why?

I don’t think any of them I have watched so far don’t have any song performances I didn’t like. They were fun to watch and listen to and they match with the situations that are happening.

5. Which musical is your least favourite in terms of the storyline and why?

Least favourite in terms of the storyline…there are actually none that I didn’t like. They basically follow the same routes and end up falling for Chizuru (from what I have seen but it might be different for the others), so I don’t have a least favourite.

6. The musical that you didn’t initially love, but has/have grown on you?

The one that I didn’t love in the beginning was Toudou-hen. For some reason, when I watched it, it seemed different form the others. But then when I watched it again I loved it. Toudou can kind of be seen as a minor character in some of the other musicals, but when he got his own I was surprised, but you could see that even Toudou could fall for Chizuru, even though he would barely get any lines in the musicals beforehand. (As I will say, I haven’t seen them all so he might have more lines in the other musicals than from what I can remember)

7. Original or latest casts?

The original cast will always have a place in my heart as they made Hakumyu real to me. And from the first time I watched it, I knew that this Hakuouki project was something not wasted. I have seen the action of the latest casts and they have taken on well what the originals have left for them and have kept on going. So, this one is an undecided as I like them both.

8. Live 1 or Live 2?

I have seen both lives and this one is an undecided. That is because they both have their strong points and weak points but I do love them both equally. And the Lives signify that both old and new casts have had one live each and have performed to the best of their own abilities as their characters.

9. Favourite actors/characters?

My favourite actor/character would have to be Hirose Daisuke, Mikata Ryosuke, Aramaki Yoshihiko and Higarashi Keisuke from the top of my head to name a few. They all played their characters well and were serious when needed be, which made me like their characters (and Okita more as Daisuke and Yoshihiko play the same character).

10. Actor/actress whom you think has the best vocal skills?

The best vocal skills…they all have their highs and lows when it comes to singing so I can’t choose one at this current time.

11. Actor/actress whom you think did the best in bringing out the character into life

If I have to say, they all did the best making their characters come to life. And the new cast have continued to improve on those characters the old cast left for them.

12. Hijikata, Souji, Saito or Harada, Shinpachi, Heisuke?

I love them all, but I will have to pick Souji.

13. Favourite minor character?

My favourite minor character would have to be Sannan-san. When I first saw this character played by Mikata Ryosuke (from the original cast), he is basically a mad scientist that can give them infinite life, at the cost of becoming a crazy, uncontrollable demon (as well as himself).

14. Favourite Shinsengumi member?

My favourite Shinsengumi member would have to be Toudou and Souji. I like Toudou as he likes to play around sometimes but when he has to be serious, he will be. I also like Souji as he hides his emotions and just does his job as a member. Even when he becomes terminally ill, he still tries to act tough and hide his pain so he can fight alongside his friends which are like his family.

15. Favourite demon character?

My favourite demon character would have to be Kazama Chikage. When I first saw him come onto the stage, he was actually serious about taking Chizuru with him as she is obviously the exact same as him. The clothing Chikage wears is actually quite old fashioned but goes with how it would have looked like during that time frame. There could be more to say about him, but I will leave it at that (^_^)

16. Favourite Chizuru?

My favourite Chizuru would have to be Kikuchi Mika. She has a really good voice and you can feel the emotions that Chizuru would have felt for the Shinsengumi group within the game (and the little anime series).

17. The actors/characters that you didn’t initially love, but has/have grown on you?

I love all of them. I have not disliked any of them so far and I don’t plan on doing that any time soon.

18. Least favourite actors/characters? Why?

I don’t have a least favourite actor at this current moment. They all find a way to create their characters and can display them to the best of their current acting abilities.

19. Favourite solo song?

Favourite solo song would have to be Sannan-san’s solo (from the old cast, I can’t remember the name of it). He just becomes so serious and Ryosuke is a really good singer. Even when he changes into a demon during the song (due to being injured during their previous battle) and it shows the strength what becoming a demon is like and what it can do. Overall, I just love the song in general.

20. Favourite duet?

I do like Chizuru and Okita’s duet, but the one that tops the list is Chizuru and Hijikata’s duet at the end of Hijikata-hen. When listening to this song, you could feel the acting quality they had as they had to kiss each other at the end of the song. And you’re able to see the love and emotion Hijikata and Chizuru would have had in the game (if it is…I haven’t played it yet).

21. Favourite group song?

My favourite group song would have to be Yaisa! I don’t think I need to explain why, but I will. Yaisa is my favourite group song because it allows the cast to come together at the beginning and at the end of the show before they separate and become their characters who like/dislike each other. Yaisa is basically a song of unity to me (>v<)

22. Which Yaisa! is the best?

I do love the original Yaisa the most as when I first heard it, it gave me goose bumps and I was surprised at the manliness, yet harmony they gave when singing it. Which made me believe that they did feel like a group, they felt like a family just like how the Shinsengumi were.

23. The songs that you didn’t initially love, but has/have grown on you?

There weren’t any songs I didn’t like. I loved them all!

24. Which production are you most looking forward to?

As far as I know, there have been no announcements for a new Hakuouki after Harada-hen, but if there is one in the future, I will be looking forward to it!

25. What does hakumyu means to you?

What Hakumyu means to me is that it gives the chance for actors to play fictional characters but use the real names of the group that changed Japan history and is loved by many to this day. The characters to me are all wonderful old or new, and they have the chance to make the character their own and experience some of the things that might have happened to them. It gives actors the chance to see what it would have been like for the Shinsengumi to fight during those times and the battles they faced until it all came to an end. This Hakuouki Musical Project truly means that everyone has the opportunity to make their own history.

Hakumyu LIVE!

I’ve been binge watching Hakumyu the past few days. When you watch things in succession that are actually produced months/years apart, you notice a lot of differences. And of course, you compare! I’m just going to share stuff that I noticed/liked generally.

Note: I’ve only watched Saito-hen, Okita-hen, Hijikata-hen and LIVE.

1. I like the transitions and how they are able to equally shine the spotlight on the 3 different male protagonists & Chizuru.

2. It’s noticeable through all the musicals, but the actors’ singing are improving gradually. More stable, and less mistakes. ^^

3. During “Yaisa! Yaisa! Yaisa!” when Okita says “moriagatte iku yo!” I am JUMPING OFF MY SEAT. HNGHHHH. <3

4. Also when Okita says “many beautiful people are gathered here”. UGH STOP MESSING WITH MY HEART. /////

5. The part where all the Chizuru’s were making New Year preparations was really funny and cute. xD Saitou’s reaction ahhhh!

6. Heisuke and Shinpachi are TON TON too precious for this world! Ikeda Junya and Miyazaki Shuuto are perfect for their roles!

7. But really, where’s Amagiri? TT

8. I don’t really like Sanan’s theme “Aware na Mouja”. I feel like the words in the verse are too rushed to hear the notes clearly, and the key doesn’t match Mikata Ryosuke’s voice imo. Mikata Ryosuke is a great Sanan, though.

9. “Kyodai ~ Nite Inai Kai” is a comedic guilty pleasure for me, hahaha. I love how Chizuru looks totally serious. The addition of Kodou is A+++

10. “This year’s resolution”. It’s super cute that Kazama wrote “Chizuru”. But then I realized, Hakumyu LIVE and Kazama-hen was produced in the same year. He wasn’t lying about his resolution. xD

11. Let’s be honest, the whole kakizome thing is full of jokes and fluff, guys I cannot. <3 Saitou’s serious face but curt and fuwafuwa responses ughhhh. Hijikata’s flustered expression... Too cute!

12. The oni band and Kazama medley, whoah! Suzuki Shogo’s performance was really good (his solo was really long too??) and he was really into the character. I have a newfound admiration for him after this musical. He’s truly is a Demon Prince of Darkness. With an attitude. xD

13. I can’t stress enough about how Okita does things to my heart. UGHHH. The part at the end where he leads the audience to cheer “Yaisa!”. From his death threat (totally not cool irl ok) to “ato de ippai homete ageru”. And his little wave as he walk backstage. GRRRRRRR. *claws at my chest* There are so many good actors in this musical, and yet, it’s always Okita for me. TT

14. I also need to point out that their wigs have improved a lot too! Because for the whole of Saito-hen and Okita-hen, Sano’s wig was really reaaaally bothering me. @@

Hakumyu LIVE was really fun! I guess since it is more of a performance, and less of telling a story, so the cast gets to have more fun with it too.

I also just realized that there’s still a long way to go for me to finish watching all the musicals. @@ Ijou desu. Ganbarimasu!

[PART 1] HAKUMYU LIVE2 - SPECIAL GUEST EXTRAS - Matsuda Ryo

I am doing this just for fun ^^ Because I like translating the Tokuten (extras), than the Honpen (stageplay) :p I know LIVE has been around for a while but just in case ^^ I will skip some parts… because they talk too fast / not so important / interesting :p If I have the time and if anyone wants to read this, I will make the rest with Izawa Yuki, Yamazaki Shuuto, Gomoto Naoya & Yazaki Hiroshi too ^^ (i edited this with photos lol yesterday tumblr was being ugly and jealous i couldnt upload anything)

Ryo: Awesome! Once again, I am the previous Saito Hajime actor, Matsuda Ryo.

M-P: So it has been 2 1/2 years, since your last stage, since Kazama-hen

R: Yes, that was the last one for me, and the Fukuchou (commander / Piroshi). And you see just now I have been watching from the side-stage and a lot of memories came in.

R: Yes my debut performance was the first ever Hakumyu after all (Saitou-hen). I’m so happy and now everyone is turning their penlights into Blue colour. Aa~ thank you~ (in his Kansai-ben /aaaaaa XD)

*fanscream*

R: I love everyone (* Minna suki ya de~ aaa kansai benn XD) ! I’ll give you this *hands over his uchiwa (fan) to one front seat fan). It is a festival after all right. I can’t throw it (the fan) to the seats it’s dangerous okay.

M-P: It is definitely amazing right. It was the first ever Hakumyu, and without that there wont be Hakumyu today right (i rephrased this XD i think he mentioned Matsuda Gakkun, like without Ryo-kun first Hakumyu, there wouldnt be Hakumyu today for anyone else~)

R: You know just now I received a LINE message from Yamazaki-san / Piroshi.

AUDIENCE: ‘What did he saaay?’

R: ‘Good luck for the LIVE’ and he wrote that all in Hiragana. lol but that’s so him XDD

So I replied, I’ll do my best!

M-P: He is definitely a zachou (lead) who practiced more than anyone else, yet never shows a tired face *more praises*

Then Mori-Producer said that seems like it started from Ryo-kun, a passionate and powerful Zachou, and from that on the next ones too inherited that.

R: Eh, wait I feel like crying already.

M-P: That’s fast.

R: Before I was in Hakumyu, I went through an audition and at that time, I was auditioning for Heisuke’s position.

ME & FANS: WHAAT?????

R: I was aiming for Heisuke and I really didnt think that I would be Saitou Hajime and that time Mori-san’s impression was really interesting

M-P: I thought he will definitely fail this :p

It was like he was screwing around. What did you do again?

And then Ryo-kun explained that there are some things that needs to be done. I think he needs to act out a scene in which everyone needs to take turn and then he gets cut down by another. And he have to act out a dying scene.

R: I never had any experience of sword fight lessons or anything, let alone how to act out a death. So when I was cut down, UWAAA— (run and plops on floor) and I just stayed in this position (on floor) and I looked at the person and the producer angrily said ‘Die now!’

M-P: I really thought you will fail but you managed till the end and Im glad it is you.

R: Aaww

M-P: How about acting out Saitou Hajime’s line now? *pass a Katana*

R: WAAA, it has been a while since I last held a Katana *slips it on his obi* (mind you, it is left side which is actually ‘wrong’ because he is Saitou Hajime known for left-handed samurai XD). Ok Mori-san be the Chizuru okay.

*acts out Saitou’s line* (AAAAAA AAAA) *looks at Mori-chizuru lol*

R: EH, this katana is the other way round (lol)

M-P: Any scenes that’s most memorable for you?

R: (he said the scene when he fought with Kazama)

*Then it became an awkward scene when Shougo-Kazama came out.*

R: Hi, it is.. a first time so I’m Matsuda Ryo *steps back*

Shougo-Kazama: Hmph.

R: Seems like his eyes is killing me. Then, I can take him on now. Everyone, he is now weaponless.

S-K: *came back with a Katana* R: Ok lets go with ‘that’ scene. Get it? ‘That scene?’ …. Aren’t you laughing, you okay?

Here are some other interesting facts from the rest of the special guest corner (that I might or might not translate):

[1] Gomoto Naoya-kun auditioned for Hijikata Toshizou’s position (HAHAHA but Mori Producer was like, Nope okay you can stop during the audition :p)

[2] Izawa Yuki-kun was sooo pressured to be the 2nd Hijikata-san, because Piroshi / Yamazaki Hiroshi was a strong one, too good. And then he said at that time, he always had Kondou-san (Taira-san) to pamper and calm him down. And when asked how, he acted it out: *walks to Kondou-san and hugs* ‘Im scared~ Piroshi was so good~* And Taira-san would hug pat him and say ‘It is okay, just be yourself, you own version of Hijikata Toshizou’

[3] On the recording day of Hakumyu Reimeiroku, Piroshi came to watch. And Izawa Yuki-kun was like ‘AAA how dare he came today why did he have to come today of all days’ XD But then at the end, when he showed his fist towards Piroshi in the audience seat, Piroshi returned his air-fistbump (AWW). He said he was happy and touched ^^

[4] Izawa Yuki sheated his katana and fans went ‘UUU~~’ and he said ‘Wow LIVE is so nice, I didnt do anything but sheating my sword and I get such reaction :p

[5] Izawa Yuki said he had such a blunder during Hakumyu performance like there were times when he tried to sheath back his sword and the scabbard had moved the other way. So this one time, he put it in, and like oh god it wouldnt go in so while acting the play he slowwwwly slowwwwly took it out, and BAM! put it back in one go :p

[6] Ryo-kun said some of the blunders he made during Hakumyu was (1) There was a part Amagiri was talking and he was supposed to come out, and at one time he was just sitting at the side-stage not realizing it was his moment to come out. And suddenly Ikeda Junya-kun (Heisuke), came running ‘OI YOUR TURN GET OUT THERE’ and he was like wth and ‘WHY?’ and Junya furiously said ‘YOUR TURN’ and he was like ‘WHAT? !!!’ *late sudden realization* XDDD

(2) There was a day he said he forgot his Katana (LOL) and that was the part he was supposed to fight Kazama (such important scene LOL). And he saw the ensemble Suga-chan and just ‘defeat and grab away his Katana forcefully’ and continue his act LOL. (you would know Suga-vhan if you’re a fan (said Ryo-kun), bcs the longest ensemble member to join Hakumyu from start till to-date).

[7] Izawa Yuki-kun said he was always feeling so pressured (lol poor one XD Piroshi was awesome after all keke) but Kondou-san (Taira-san) helped him like you know he is a historical figure and Taira-san looks just so realiable like the real one, but then one day during practice, they were practicing Shinsengumi’s first appearance during YAISA and when it is his turn to come out with Taira-san suddenly he heard a loud DODOON noise and when he looked to his side, Taira-san stumbled and fell down very unsightly LOL (you can see this clip in Toudou-hen’s extras) :p

[8] Imata Taira-san (Kondou-san) is known for getting tongue-tied and calling character names wrongly like: Saitou-KYUN, Sousuke (Heisuke), Heiji (Souji) :p

[9] Mori-producer said when he first met Ryo-kun he judged him like ‘Can this kid really talk properly’ (Because Ryo-kun is a Kansai-person so he has an accent). And Ryo-kun said Now I can talk normally and fluently (without the accent) :p

Hakumyu Tag Game

Hi friends! So @allyyyyy0619 tagged me in this post about my thoughts on Hakumyu, and I was so touched she thought of me that I definitely want to answer so pardon me as I regale you with my thoughts on Hakumyu!

1. Which musical was the first that you have watched? Your impressions on the overall production? Hm…This is really a two-part answer for me. My friend and I saw the ads for the newly released DVD of Hijikata hen in animate, and after watching some clips of Hakumyu on Youtube, we decided to buy it to see what it was all about (and subsequently bought the soundtrack because we knew we’d probably like it lol). What we did not know was that Hijikata-hen was not the only one, and what we had watched on Youtube was from Okita hen. So as we were watching, there was some frantic googling and buying of DVDs. We had noo idea what we had gotten ourselves into, but I was into it hard. I had Yaisa stuck in my head for weeks. I’d listen to the soundtracks on the way to work every day. It was great.

Which leads to the part two of the question, the first show that we watched live was Kazama-hen. On such a Hakumyu kick, I looked on a whim to see if there would be more. By sheer luck I found out that Kazama-hen’s tickets were going on sale the very next day, so we overcame many hurdles that is Japanese butai ticket-buying to go see it. Although the ending wasn’t super happy, and my overall impression of it is still that they removed way too much of Kazama’s snark/craziness from his character for that performance, the fact that it was the first time seeing so many songs I loved in person gives it a special place in my heart. Wow that was long sorry

2. Which musical is your favourite in terms of the song performances and why?

Here’s where my musical biases are going to start showing Heisuke hen. The song were perfect, the overarching musical salsa theme blended seamlessly, and it was a treasure to watch. I’m sorry Sano I still love you best but that show is just damn

3. Which musical is your favourite in terms of the storyline and why?

I think Sano hen did a great job portraying his story line, but….again with the love for Heisuke hen lol. I don’t think I can just separate the storyline for judgement, but if I had two those two would probably tie.

4. Which musical is your least favourite in terms of the song performances and why?

…Shinsengumi Kitan. The show was one of those that had a bunch of small, quick vignette songs that either left you wanting more or just came out of nowhere. And, although he is a perfect Hijikata and has since clearly gotten more vocal training (because he was great in Live 2 and Sano hen), Gaku’s singing voice in Kitan just….doesn’t work for me. And the poor guy gets steamrolled by Shougo. It’s not one of my favorites.

5. Which musical is your least favourite in terms of the storyline and why?

Also Shinsengumi Kitan. We did this story already, but they just redid it with the BS ending from the anime. If anything, they could’ve taken the ending from the movie and that would’ve been great.

6. The musical that you didn’t initially love, but has/have grown on you?

I have either loved them right off the bat or they’ve stayed not one of my favorites (looking at you Reimeiroku and Kitan). I love all the different route musicals for their different strengths (even Saitou hen). I guess I could say Reimeiroku’s music has grown on me just from repeat listens and I just love Hungry Guys lol

7. Original or latest casts?

The latest casts do an amazing job, they really do, but they aren’t the original. Which is fine, but I hold a special place for the original cast in my heart (Higashi Keisuke is the exception, he is my favorite Sano forever and I’m so glad they waited for him lol).

8. Live 1 or Live 2?

Live 2! How can I not love the Live that foreshadowed my love’s musical!

9. Favourite actors/characters?

Ever since we knew this existed, I have been waiting for Sano’s musical. Higashi Keisuke does an amazing job at bringing my favorite character to life. Also! Ikeda Junya is literally Heisuke come to life, adding more reasons why I love Heisuke hen.

10. Actor/actress whom you think has the best vocal skills?

I mean, don’t you get chills when Shougo hits that note in Heisuke hen’s Yaisa? Because I do.

11. Actor/actress whom you think did the best in bringing out the character into life

See number 9. Also! I still remain very impressed at Gaku’s Hijikata and how much chemistry he had with Chizuru in Kitan (my favorite part of Kitan!). He has such dedication to the role and it shows.

12. HIjikata,Souji,Saito or Harada,Shinpachi,Heisuke?

Harada, Shinpachi, Heisuke ;)

13. Favourite minor character?

Does Yamazaki even still count as a minor character now that he has his own route?

14. Favourite Shinsengumi member?

Sanoooooo

15. Favourite demon character?

Chikage, or Kags as my friend and I lovingly call him

16. Favourite Chizuru?

You know I don’t have one! I think they all do an excellent job, and I have favorite things I like from each of them.

17. The actors/characters that you didn’t initially love, but has/have grown on you?

My overall impression of Gaku probably falls into this category. Also just in terms of characters, I used to hate Chikage. Utterly hated him. It was really movie 2 (and Shougo) who really changed my mind.

18. Least favourite actors/characters? Why?

I don’t really have anyone I don’t like; all the actors bring their own special somethings to the role.

19. Favourite solo song?

Oh gosh I have to pick one? Um. Well if I have to pick one, I do love Heisuke hen’s opening 明日へ. It is an upbeat and fun beginning to the show!

20. Favourite duet?

It’s really hard to pick these lol…I have always enjoyed all of the duets in Okita hen, and Heisuke’s duet with Chizuru in Heisuke hen too, and Sano’s duets in Sano hen are growing on me really quick so…a lot of them lol.

21. Favourite group song?

I mean if we don’t count Yaisa, I’ve always enjoyed Beautiful Drunkards (both versions).

22. Which Yaisa! is the best?

Heisuke Hen’s. Salsa-y Yaisa is my favorite. Although Hijikata hen’s Yaisa is the most Yaisa-y Yaisa if that makes sense. I love them all.

23. The songs that you didn’t initially love, but has/have grown on you?

I think I’ll just put all of Reimeiroku’s songs into this category (except Hungry Guys that was great from the word go).

24. Which production are you most looking forward to?

{I’m so happy I can say was looking forward to since we have them all for now} S a N o H e N <3 <3 Years man YEARS

25. What does hakumyu means to you?

Hakumyu means…..means seeing some of my favorite stories come to life on stage and in song. It means singing Yaisa at the top of my lungs in karaoke and now in the car. It means improving my listening skills in Japanese. It’s changed my life, and I hope it will continue to do so.

2017.04.26-29 HakuMyu Harada-Hen Review!

I cannot cope with this stage seriously! I was so lucky I got to go to the dress rehearsal AND I also managed to see it 4 times total!!

Before I say anything; when I see a play multiple times, I always enjoy it the first time and then the remaining times I will sit their counting how many points I want to make. And I know in at least one showing I had about 37 things to say about part one and 42 things to say about part two. Obviously I couldn’t and can’t remember them all BUT I hope that gives an insight into how much stuff I want to comment on in this stage! Also because I have so many effing points, I have already decided I AM going to do a Scene-By-Scene review and commentary when the DVD BR comes out! I seriously have SO much to say about each scene and moment but I won’t remember them all for this review. Sound good? Okay!

NON-SPOILER REVIEW

Overall: Best musical and stage of the year so far!!! Holy crap it is amazing! I clapped so hard every night and I haven’t clapped hard in a LONG time (maybe since TouMyu 2?)! I even wanted to give them a standing ovation every freaking night! That’s how amazing it is! Everyone did phenomenal and all the scenes were amazing and the love the new cast, every single one of them and the songs! Holy moly the songs are amazing! Also we finally have a kickass, badass Chizuru! Best Chizuru we’ve had too! I’ve only ever seen the rest of the HakuMyus twice but I’ve already seen this four times! And I’m glad this was the one I saw four times! It’s definitely my favourite HakuMyu xD It’s been weeks and I’m still on a high from it. Rating: 9 - 9.5/10

SPOILER REVIEW!

Okay is everyone ready for this monster? By the way, if you have alcohol on hand then take a drink every time I say Amazing or Gold xD you’re going to be a sanbaka by the end if you do though xD let’s go!

This is going to be split up in a really weird way. I’ve split it into Part One and Part Two (but it won’t be going in chronological order; my memory isn’t THAT good), then some notes and comments split by the different performances I went to and finally we have cast/acting break down comments too.. I imagine they’re been a Misc and a Goods section too xD I hope it’s not too confusing! >.< enjoy!

PART ONE

I am very glad I saw this in person because every time the opening main theme starts the sound crew SERIOUSLY cranked up that music, it shakes the room and it’s so powerful and amazing which is something you can’t really feel when you watch it at home! Gave me chills every time <3

This feels a lot darker too compared to the past HakuMyus which I think is why I enjoyed it so much. I remember the anime ripping my heart out and just being this amazing but depressing and dark story and I feel they really captured the real Hakuouki this time around <3

I really like the scene where Chizuru and Harada are out in town together and he captures someone and throws him back into the store/pub and we just hear this ‘すみません・ Sorry!’ xD everyone laughed every time. Another thing during this scene is there’s always a drunk guy at the back of the stage, and three out of the four performances he pretends to trip over nothing but on my third watch he pretends his hand gets stuck to the floor xD it amused me so much every time. It’s such a little thing but I love it xD All the ensemble were amazing! I saw some recogisable and regular faces too in them! <3

All the comedy hit well in this stage ^_^ we have the one scene mentioned above and then we also have the drinking scene comedy with Shinpachi, Harada and even Yamazaki, and in part two we have that wonderful Shinpachi.

Teruma's freaking solo. I really do love his solo. It’s so manic and amazing and the lighting and the smoke and Chizuru being scared to death and everything - it’s so good! Jesus, his scream seriously is amazing and gave me chills every time too! Also I think his performance of this song just got more wild every night which is awesome! In fact everyone’s screams were amazing! You could feel and hear their pain in the screams. Heisuke’s scream when he transformed is also really good! More on screaming in part two >.<

This Chizuru is kickass this one. It’s the first time I’ve actually liked Chizuru and I’m so glad I do because I really do like Karin! This Chizuru feels a lot more fearless and stronger and always staying with the guys and even goes to turn herself in to protect Shinsengumi. Maybe she has done this in all the others but this was personally my first time to really see Chizuru as this strong female. I have so many good scenes of her being a badass. One is when she tells the Oni she’ll go with them so long as they don’t hurt Shinsengumi. Another badass scene is when she even attacks and tries to kill her own father! She actually uses and takes out her sword on a number of occasions this time around which made me love her! THIS is the Chizuru I want and I got it!

And speaking of Karin as Chizuru, I love the slight song speed and tempo differences they made to fit Karin’s voice <3 By the way if you didn’t notice already this Chizuru and Karin are my all time favourite Chizuru’s! xD Both character and actress <3 I’ve liked Karin since K Stage so makes sense xD

Related to above; I LOVE when Harada says to Chizuru ‘それはかっこよかった・That was cool of you/You were cool then.’ after she tries to protect and save everyone <3 in general Harada has some great lines but that one definitely stood out to me every performance.

Unfortunately, there is NO Kinniku Love -__- which is one of the tiny reasons why I haven’t rated it a 10 out of 10. This is like my favourite part in all the stages! So I was a little miffed! But we got a wonderful Drinking song and we got Harada and Shinpachi shirtless which was great! Also in the shirtless scene Shinpachi draws on Harada which is good fun >.< although why Shinpachi undressed also I have no idea why xD I ain’t complaining though!

Speaking of the Drinking song, YAMAZAKI in this song!!! TakaChan’s Yamazaki is good as always, however, especially when drunk xD it really cracked me up every time and I looked forward to it every time! He falls on the floor, he slumps onto the stairs, he has to rest a hand on the wall so he doesn’t throw up, it’s really so good xD I loved this performance every time!! It gave me such a giggle.

I love Okita’s coughing in this one. I know it’s not technically a good thing for Okita (xD) but MakiChan acting out the coughing and the different stages of it so well this stage! I am proud of my boy <3 I also love during one of the scene where everyone in Shinsengumi’s gathered and Okita is just sexily sat on the stairs with the sword between his legs <3 so sexy *dead*

OOOOO! I LOVE the song when it’s just Kondo, Okita and Hijikata! And they sing ‘その名前に誓う！・We’ll take that name’ and I sang along to it every time after the first time I saw the stage! I freaking love the song and I love that line!! <3

Shiranui FTW! don’t need to say more do I? Haha BUT seriously, he was so good in this and we got so much of him this time around! I was a happy bunny AND he got his own bromides whichi is just mind blowing! Furthermore, Shiranui’s costume is amazing! It’s so detailed! You can’t see the flower prints or the dark green on the DVDs and stuff so well but seeing it in person, it’s absolutely gorgeous! All of Shiranui’s interactions and scenes were great! I really love the slow mo fighting part during one of the Harada x Shiraniu fight scenes! Shiranui’s face every time is amazing in slowmo >.< Another scene I love is when he opens up towards the end and is like ‘there’s no such things as souls’ and Chizuru is like ‘I think you want to believe but you can’t because you’ve seen so many of your (human) friends die’ or something like that and it’s ... my feels!

The San Baka song is SO good! Especially when Shinpachi goes round punching everyone xD also it made my heart warm that Shinpachi enters the stage with a jump! During the HakuMyu Live 2 DVD event Fukuyama spoke of how he tried to copy Shuuto’s jump but Shuuto just has to much bounce and natural height to him when jumping that he couldn’t copy it, so seeing him really going for it in the stage made me very happy. I bet Shuuto giggled when he saw it just like me xD

I really, really, really, really love the new Shinsegumi group song and it’s dance <3 this song always made me cry at the end of part one quite a few times <3 it’s such a good song! I love ALL the new songs! They better bring out a CD this time around! For the love of god give me the CD of this!

Another song I loved was Kazama’s! It’s all rocky and it’s so good! I really like his new rock song ^_^ suits Hide very well. BUT, my entire thought process of Hide as Kazama was:

Round One: This Kazama is very much like the anime. Voice and all. Round Two: Yeah he’s exactly like anime Kazama, no wonder I don’t like him (the stage character not Hide!) Round Three: I fucking HATE Kazama! He’s so fucking annoying! I am SO done with this Kazama Round Four: I am beyond done and don’t care about you anymore.

So safe to say Hide did a perfect job of bringing the real, canon Kazama to life, but unfortunately that’s the type of Kazama I cannot stand xD

And the touching! Like when Yamazaki is grabbing Chizuru from the back and on her wrist to try and keep her out of the fight <3 in fact ALL the touches/grabs the guys had with Chizuru when trying to protect her! We had Yama x Chizuru and Shinpachi x Chizuru, also I think Saito x Chizuru and Heisuke x Chizuru touching too! It gave me so many feels <3 I loved it! I was so on bored with ALL the ships in this one >.< especially the Yama x Okita ship cos of MakiChan and TakaChan because after about the second or third watch, I’ve noticed that Okita and Yamazaki are together A LOT (meaning they keep pairing my TokiEnta boys together <3) and they have so many moments together that it was so fascinating just how many times! But course I thoroughly enjoyed that ^_^

One little comment is about in two different performance, Tonchan nearly lost his sheath during one of his fight scenes due to him spinning and moving fast xD he just grabbed it an threw it backstage when it happened.

PART TWO

The opening dream sequence is GOLD. I love it so much! Everytime this song comes on my music player I can see TonChan and his dance here so perfectly! Also I FUCKING love when Shinpachi and co. come on stage! The first time I saw it I was like ‘wtf?! Shinapachi isn’t supposed to drink the Ochimizu!!!’ and his evil face during that scene when he attacks Harada is so freaking amazing! His evil smile is so evil but also somewhat sexy xD but I guess that’s cos of my Shinpachi Hell xD

Back to the screaming! In this second half with Yamazaki’s scream! So amazing! <3 Also Hijikata’s scream! Just everyone screaming is amazing okay! I guess that’s the messed up sadistic side of me? Or just damn fine acting!

Speaking of Yamazaki! Yamazaki’s scene... ugh do we need to talk about this.. yes we do because I love Yamazaki! It broke my heart as usual! I cried like a bitch every time and sometimes I even started crying way before the scene even started! But he like climbs/crawls up the stairs... my heart is breaking right now! BUT I saw one person’s review saying ‘why can’t they just kill Yamazaki off stage, why does he need a scene’ or something like that and let me tell you: I LOVE Yamazaki, I LOVE TakaChan, I NEED this scene! My beautiful TakaChan needs ALL the stage time he can get, okay! But him not dying would be more preferable>o< << as I wrote in the questionnaires every performance xD I get why and how it would work to have him die off stage but I need these scenes no matter how heartbreaking they are.

The Saito x Souji fight is GOLD and amazing! Their singing and song during it too is great! Apparently this song and scene has already been done before but clearly this version was a lot better and obviously stood out to me. Everything about this scene, the song, their voices, the choreography, the lighting, it’s all really good here!

I love when Shinpachi decides to leave Shinsengumi and comes back on stage like ‘Hiji don’t stop me! I’m going whether you like (Hiji: I know, I’m letting you go) it or not--- what?!’ and then he turns to Harada ‘I made up my mind!’ ‘I know.. we’re leaving too...’ ‘...what?! ... what?! Explain it to me so I can understand! What do you mean! Cos we’re friends right?!’ xD I died every time. Such a good moment <3

And then we have the Shinpachi x Harada fight that’s also GOLD! Just give me Shinpachi and Harada scenes all day okay! But also my love for the new Shinachi helps me love this scene too.

Oh jesus, oh my! The Okita crying after he finds out about Kondou’s execution and his scream crying scene broke me every time. Although I feel like MakiChan’s performance during my third time wasn’t as good as the other times, but lets assume it was just the mid-performance slump between the first and last performance day hype and adrenaline. But seriously this scene is so well acted from both MakiChan and Gaku! It’s such a raw and heartbreaking scene and yet it has so much love in it too! Like when Hijikata put his hand on Okita while Okita was lent on him and grabbing on him for dear life as he cried. My brain was just like ‘HIJI X OKITA!!!”. It’s just a small thing but omg Okita needs something like that to reassure him in that moment <3 So many minute things happen in this scene that make it all so perfect but ripping your heart out at the same time.

I finally finished my two parter comments. Now to some Performance differences or accidents or curtain calls and such. The tenses might be a little weird here but bare with me:

2017.04.26 14:00 Preview/Dress Rehearsal

Straight after it finished:

I remember why I hate Hakuouki so much....my emotions right now. I am fecking ruined! The second half just killed me.

2017.04.27 19:00

I was at the very very back this night next to one kankeisha and the lighting and sound crew xD it was awesome! Also I’d say the back overall is a great view even though it’s a little far.

SHIRAMATA IS HERE!!!

I cried at the opening this night.

Everything went wrong this night and it was hilarious because it was nothing major:

First Hijikata’s sword broke! It was perfectly timing too when Kazama and him smacked swords but his sword part fell leaving him with just the handle in his hand and Gaku very smoothing just threw the handle away and finished the fight with (literally) blade in hand xD when it broke, me and several others (in our heads) thought ‘NO! Kane-san!!!’ xD and then because Gaku hadn’t thrown it far enough, during the next scene which was Saito’s you could just see this hand on the floor trying to grab the handle quickly but we ALL saw it xD

Another one was Kondou and Sannan slightly fell UP the stairs towards the audience xD

And the last mishap was towards the end of the drinking song where Yamazaki and Shinpachi pass each other BUT TakaChan was a bit too close and flips the sake plate out of Fukuyama’s hand and he tried to catch it about 4 times before just letting it dropped and (smoothly in character) pointed at Yamazaki to pick it up so did and clean it on his shirt xD it was very in character and a good moment BUT it definitely wasn’t part of the scene xD was definitely an accident.

The curtain call was so emotional - already(!) which is not good. The speaker for the curtain call today was Teruma. Teruma spoke about how he was happy to be back and commented about Tonchan being the zachou and doing a great job to which Tonchan hugged Teruma after his speech <3 Teruma also said that he’d been watching Karin through the performances and rehearsals and said she was great but then he quickly added ‘I’m not a hentai! I promise! I don’t mean it that way!’ And thus got Karin crying and then poor Tsubasa was a wreck (every night he cried actually) and I saw MakiChan wiping tears away from his face too. It just got out of control this night with the tears xD it was only their second Tokyo performance! xD

Also, I think it was this one where at the end of the second curtain call MakiChan and Imata hugged at the side of the stage before MakiChan skipped off xD

Apparently this performance is the one when I realised (and I quote) ‘I am so in love with this Shinpachi! He might have even over taken Shuuto!!’

You know when I said being at the back had the best view? I was right! This night I was row 18 but me and the girl next to me were a LOT shorter compared to the two in front of us so even though we had center seats we had to constantly more left and right the entire show and I can still see this giant head blocking my view in my memory. It was so distracting! I know it’s not their fault they’re tall but jesus.... at least slump down! I always do just incase I get a tiny person behind me.

I think TakaChan missed his mark during the group song and came in a little too late xD

Also I think poor Tsubasa forgot his line during the first San baka scene. Sounded like he tripped over his words for a millisecond.

TonChan dropped his yari in a fight scene!!!! But luckily he smoothly grabbed it and the fight sounds continued to perfectly match him, well done sound crew.

I was able to sing along to some of the songs this night which made me happy xD

I cried at the end of part one this night xD

Curtain call was a triple curtain call and tonight’s speaker was Yamazaki/TakaChan. He spoke about it being 5 years since the first stage and he was like ‘we’ll d Yamazaki-hen okay! *everyone cheers* I’ll also go and see it’ WTF Takachan?! xD but that does means he read my damn letter about me wanting him to do Yamazaki-hen xD Also freaking MakiChanbbeing the comfortable troll he is, everytime TakaChan said something wrong in his speech he was immediately replying to him and giving him crap xD I love these boys so much. but I can imagine none TokiEnta fans wouldn’t have realised they were good friends and in the same company and stuff. But it made me happy seeing just how comfortable MakiChan was with being himself in front of everyone and just being himself with TakaChan on stage xD

Makichan did so well with Tsubasa. Every night he’d put his arm around him or he’d hug him or give him a pat on the back. He was so supportive while Tsubasa just stood there crying his heart out every night <3

Also I freaking realised from the back of his head but I KNEW ShoSan had turned up! He had!! I was right mwahaha I promise I’m not creeping...

Every night during the ending song MakiChan would go to TakaChan and would do something stupid like poke him and stuff but this night TakaChan tried so hard to just ignore him xD it was so funny.

Also I have a note and a tweet that says ‘Guys... I’ve been kidnapped by this little shizzer...’and this is very Shinpachi hell really begins... I’ve posted enough pics of him throughout this post to prove it xD

Also this was definitely the performance where ‘I’m so effing done with this Kazama’s BULLSHIT’ xD

2017.04.29 19:00

The entire fucking old cast showed up! Shuuto, Ryo, Ono, Yazak and Edogawa. As soon as they walked in until the show actually started and between the breaks and after it finished literally the ENTIRE crowd was staring and talking about them. Serious kudos to the boys for completely not phasing at it at all, and just continuing their conversations between themselves and enjoying themselves in their conversations. Especially this one girl, who clearly obviously waited until the very last second to walk back in during the break so she could go up the stares nod a look at them and go to her seat. You THINK about doing these things, not actually do them! But having said that, on the first day me and my friend accidentally turned up 2 hours early instead of one hour and saw the cast go into the theatre. And we saw them running up and down the stairs at the back. Thank the lord for my very very sharp glasses xD yeah... we’re the creepy ones really aren’t we xD

Anyway back to this night:

I cried a crap ton.

Luckily the girl next to me was a Shinpachi fan so we could talk about him a lot before and after the play and during the break xD

During the final ending song this night MakiChan got a piggyback from the ensemble cast xD

Poor baby Tsubasa cried his little heart out again just like every night xD

And done! Now onto acting!! The rest of this should be short ^_^ thank god.

ACTING

TonChan: He is the perfect Harada! He’s tall, slim and yet still bares muscle and he dances pretty smoothly too and he’s so sexy as Harada. He did amazing in this and I definitely brought Harada-Hen to justice, but I’ve never played the game so don’t take my word xD

Karin: I already expressed my love for Karin and her Chizuru <3

Gakkun: I feel in this one Gaku finally had a complete grasp on his Hijikata and I feel he’s finally made Hijikata his own <3

MakiChan: MakiChan’s acting has improved once again as evidently seen in the way he builds up the coughs and such, and his scene with Hijikata is truelly an amazing and powerful performance. Him and Naya have great chemistry for the Okita x Saito conflict too. I feel MakiChan’s Okita is a lot more playful with that streak of evil in it which I’m really loving. He still shows this vulnerable childish and selfish Okita perfectly at times too. He has this great balance of the two sides of Okita going on <3

TakeChan: I LOVE TakeChan as Saito! As soon as he came on stage I was like ‘This IS Saito!’ he does it so perfectly and flawlessly. I was one of the rare ones who never really liked Shohei as Saito; something just didn’t sit well with me with his Saito. But Naya? He’s perfect! He took this role completely I feel like everyone saw Saito straight away rather than TakeChan or even his Saayo. I wish he had more stage time but I understand to ease him into HakuMyu and it’s audience you have to do it slowly at a time. I hope in the next stage he gets a LOT more time on stage, I really wanna see what he does with Saito <3 I dare say I think I prefer him over Ryo!!

Tsubasa: Oh my this angel! He IS ADORABLE as Heisuke! i freaking adore his Heisuke! He’s so cute! And he’s such a cute baby for crying every night <3 He was even adorable during the HakuMyu Live 2 DVD event I went to. As actors him and Naya are defo tied for most adorable and cute! I wanna see his Heisuke so much more! He has a good dynamic with Shoudai at least and I wanna see more San Bakaness with the three actors we currently have. I’m glad he was fully recovered this time too (he was injured throughout Live 2) so we could see him do some great action scenes!

Fukuyama Shoudai: This son of a bitch. This son of a bitch! Oh my I am in LOVE with his Shinpachi! He’s perfect! Absolutely perfect! I am SO into his Shinpachi! If they ever do Shinpachi-hen THIS GUY PLEASE! Oh my god I can’t <3 again, I think he’s beaten Shuuto for me personally as Shinpachi! Just everything about him! Every scene he was in he was so asmuing and I loved his and TonChan’s scenes and we finally see him be Shinpachi after not really seeing him in Live 2 and seeing at the HakuMyu Live 2 DVD event and hearing a lot of his thoughts and how difficult Live 2 was because he and Tsubasa were just told to copy the others and now finally get a chance to show off his Shinpachi and hearing how hard he worked to get Shinpachi right (watching Shuuto’s performances on DVD and such) - I am a happy bunny! Oh guys I cant’t with his Shinpachi.... I’ve never fallen so HARD for a character in my life.

Teruma: Lets admit it. Teruma is DAMN good at everything he does! Especially when it comes to song performances. And I’m glad he came back at Sannan. He freaking did an amazing job! That solo guys, that solo!

TakaChan: I am so glad he got to play a drunk Yamazaki and we got to see him more involved with the others this time. And like I said; ALL the Okita and Yamazaki interactions <3 But please can we stop killing YamaChan?! xD JUST ONCE! And when it’s NOT his Hen! xD

Imata Taira as Kondou Isami: Perfect as always! I think everyone in the audience loves him as Kondou and he proves that even though he’s older he’s just as loved and as popular in the HakuMyu fandom and he can do everything the other guys do just as well. He never disappoints me and he’s such a great guy <3

Hide: Like I said: The perfect (anime) Kazama which unfortunately is the type of Kazama I despise.

Soutarou as Amagiri Kyuujyu: We didn’t get to see much of him but then again we never do. I’m holding out verdict for him still. Hopefully he’s in the next one and I can make a solid opinion. But he did fine in this.

Kashiwagi: SHIRANUI!!!! My perfect bundle of perfectness <3 he’s flawless as Shiranui. He’s amazing as Shiranui. He did a perfect job and I am so happy with how much time he got on stage and he was dying to do HaradaHen too and I’m happy for him that he’s happy he could finally do it! I really love how Shiranui opens up towards the end with the whole soul thing. Kashi please don’t leave us after this one....

Kawamoto Hiroyuki as Yukimura Koudou: He was fine but I personally felt he was AWFULLY young to be playing her father, but I guess I’m still used to Edogawa and his older man looks xD He had a little song and he sounded great, and his performance was fine. Holding the verdict out on him still too.

Ensemble: They did an amazing job and had so much action to deal with and so much choreography (like everyone else) and so many roles to do! A special mention to Sugawara Takeshi who’s a reoccurring ensemble member for HakuMyu (and some other stages me thinks) and he got most of the ensemble lines and main extra roles whenever there was one.
