Here to rant about Joe Wright's movies. He is such an amazing director, you can see his mark in his movies and that's what makes them so special. My personal favourites are:

Pride & Prejudice: It doesn’t need any presentation, if it's a period drama I'm sold. Everything, from the plot, to the costumes, to the casting (I love Keira Knightley, she's one of my favourite actresses, and I discovered Matthew Mcfadyen thanks to this movie) is perfect and iconic. Also I loved the fact that some shots looked like portraits.

Atonement: Keira Knightley is an amazing lead, I also loved Saoirse Ronan (she was so young and she got nominated for an Oscar!) and James McAvoy. And the fact that the movie is divided in two parts, so different from one other. The shots here also looked like portraits, truly beautiful.

Cyrano: A period drama AND a musical? I'm double sold. I loved the songs, in particular "Every Letter" during which I had my mouth agape all the time (the passion Roxanne had with a letter?!). I also loved Peter Dinklage and Haley Bennet. And I screamed all the time during this movie, I just couldn’t, I was suffering. Here too we have shots like portraits.

Special mentions: Anna Karenina and Darkest Hour.

Please, if you like period dramas, love stories, war films, musicals, or/and Keira Knightley, please give a chance to one of this Joe Wright's movies. You won't be disappointed.

I live! Finding motivation to write for the first time in a long time, and of course it would be for an obscure film that has nothing to do with my current blog fixation.

Catherine Irene Sinclair was fortunate enough to be born into a wealthy family from New York that had never known a hard winter in their life. The Sinclair family had prominence in the state, having been rich for too many generations to count, and while Catherine ached for a life of adventure, her parents plotted to marry her to the first wealthy bachelor they could find willing to put up with her fiery spirit. For years she endured language courses and classes on etiquette only because of the bond she shared with her twin brother, Carlton. An outcast himself, Carlton spent as much of his time reading as Catherine did riding, and together they dreamed of a world away from the high walled society of the New York socialites that they were trapped in.

Yet, it was on their twenty-second birthday that Carlton announced his surprise engagement to a local debutante who was the epitome of everything he once claimed to hate. At the same time he introduced Catherine to a coworker of his; rich, charming, and precisely what her parents intended for her to marry.

They had served together in the French Foreign Legion a decade earlier apparently, and had found one another again in the middle of an Egyptian prison by sheer luck. Though Rick only spoke highly of his friend, stories shared over laughter and wine, she didn't like him the moment she met him; pompous, flirtatious, and pig-headed he was everything she tried to avoid in a man. Particularly due to the way his lips curled into a smile every time he caught her looking and the gentle way her name fell off of his tongue whenever he teased her.

Yet, despite the feeling that the cowboy was nothing but trouble, Catherine lets the pair rope her into their trip across the desert. It's supposed to be nothing other than a sight seeing tour for the Carnahan siblings, during which Rick promises to pay her back every penny that he owes her.

Of course, Rick didn't mention the likelihood that they would end up bringing a cursed mummy back to life or that she would find herself falling head over heels for his annoyingly charismatic friend that seemed to talk more than he thought.

Then again, she wanted adventure. Surely, this was it.

okay her mother’s name is molly artley, and she was a great friend of john’s (from the punk era) they were in a pretty big situationship, then molly ends up with this posh great looking guy and marries him. then gives birth to enid (at this time molly and john had stopped talking for a long time ago) and before that she had made a deal with nergal in which he told her he would take her life away the moment she make sa child. she ends up having enid anyway, and samuel (the husband) was about to divorce her because of the magic stuff, by the time enid was 2 molly dies and samuel gives her away to the biggest catholic orphanage in london.

then years later, enid is 10 at this point, she wants to learn about magic. then finds constantine, bugs him about this. then he takes her in sigh im still working on this part sorry 😔😔😔😔😔😔

"Swallow" é um filme de 2019 maravilhosamente dirigido por Carlo Mirabella-Davis, que segue a história de Hunter, interpretada de maneira estelar por Haley Bennet, e seu esposo Richie, que formam aquele típico casal ideal, onde Richie é o homem rico e bonito, e Hunter deveria ser a esposa perfeita para ele. Ao mesmo tempo, ela tem que agradar não só a ele, mas também às exigências dos seus sogros rígidos, e acaba engravidando, o que faz sua saúde mental se deteriorar.

Hunter desenvolve uma compulsão por engolir objetos e, apesar de o filme parecer ser sobre isso, esse não é o tema central, pelo menos aos meus olhos. O tempo todo no filme, Hunter é tratada como um nada, tanto pelo esposo quanto pelos sogros, e provavelmente só servia para conceber um herdeiro. A compulsão dela era uma forma que ela encontrou de se sentir no controle, como uma alegoria. Ao longo do filme, ela tenta encontrar seu lugar no mundo, uma razão para estar ali. Onde ela pertencia? Estava no controle de si mesma? Ao longo do filme, vemos muitos desses questionamentos em Hunter, não exatamente por palavras, pois muitas vezes um olhar pode dizer muito mais.

O roteiro do filme consegue trabalhar temas sensíveis e pesados de uma maneira muito boa, com gatilhos dos quais eu não sei se poderia citar, pois seriam spoilers. Mas, caso vá assistir, tenha em mente que há vários! O próprio ambiente do filme transmite muito dos sentimentos de Hunter: uma casa grande e aberta que faz o telespectador se sentir solitário. Era como a protagonista se sentia, sendo assim quase a alma do filme. Os tons de vermelho no filme, para mim, são uma coisa maravilhosa que se encaixam perfeitamente em muitas cenas, e a direção foi algo lindo de se ver em muitos aspectos.

Na minha opinião, "Swallow" é como um ciclo que, no último ato, é felizmente quebrado. E, novamente, sem querer dar spoilers, mas vejam os créditos do filme, são maravilhosos! Apesar de seus vários pontos positivos, senti que houve alguns núcleos que não foram desenvolvidos da melhor forma e, se bem trabalhados, poderiam ter deixado o filme ainda mais interessante do que já é. Mas, tirando essa falha, para mim, é um ótimo filme.
