When Louis heads back to his van in the morning, boxer briefs missing and a draft coming through the large hole in the shoulder of his t-shirt, he thinks maybe Harry might be worth sticking around in this town for a little bit longer.

Hi Gina, I just wanted to share something with you while also thinking out loud I guess, since you have done fic recs for so long and so much about them! I have noticed how we don’t have many canon divergent exes to lovers fics anymore (I love them!!) and I was thinking if that was because of possible negative reaction from the fandom? Like in another fandom I was in, exes to lovers used to be the most famous trope but I also saw SO MANY people being horrible to the author about imagining a break up and writing a story! It was so weird, and I wondered if that is something that happens in our fandom as well. Not much of a question I guess, just wanted to know your thoughts while sharing mine! Hope you are having a good day <3

Hi, sweetheart. I’m not the best person to ask about this because I don’t actually read a ton of canon fic. But I don’t think it’s taboo so much as that 2010-2015 people were very focused on the fairytale perfection of HL being soulmates and it just wasn’t a common thing to find. 2016–present there hasn’t been much canon fic written at all, Established Relationship or otherwise.

I think the only aspects I’ve seen people really push back on are the inclusion of babygate (no one wants to read about it being real, and very few have wanted to tackle the pain of what the reality must have been for them), and the inclusion of beards (especially not making them actual girlfriends). I don’t know of there’s a general sense of not wanting to read about a break up because it hits too close to home or because people don’t think it’s realistic. It’s an interesting question.
