Alicent stans just love to forget her fanaticism until they can use it to make her look more pathetic. I have to say, accusing Rhaenyra of religious fanaticism is a new to me lmao. I've only ever seen people call her a godless whore, but I'm not on X, so maybe I've been spared.

Targaryen antis don't seem to grasp just how much of the Valyrian culture the Targaryens have given up for the sake of Westeros. Calling the Valyrian wedding ceremony an "arcane marriage ritual" is not only insulting to the Valyrian culture but also completely hypocritical.

Valyrian culture was steeped in magic, they themselves have magic in their blood. Is it any surprise their marriage customs would be the same? That's like expecting the Starks' ceremonies to happen separate from the Old Gods. The Targaryens have given up their gods, most of their magic, their language, and their marriage traditions. They never forced other people to follow their traditions, they never forbade following the Faith and the Old Gods, they fucking conformed as much as possible aside from the incest, which was the only way they know to preserve the last bit of Valyria's magic.

Alicent wouldn't be seen as a religious extremist if she didn't actively repress and hate other religions. She badmouths the Valyrian traditions, not just the incest, but also their love of dragons and their art. She removes all the Valyrian and Targaryen heraldry and artifacts and replaces them with the the symbols of a religion known for being intolerant and repressive.

As I said earlier, the Valyrian culture is dying out and the Targaryens have given up so much of their mother land. Removing the last pieces of someone's culture just because you follow a different religion is fucked up. Alicent isn't even the actual ruler or a Targaryen, it's not her place to choose to abandon their Valyrian heritage while her husband is too sick to interfere.

But the real issue of Alicent's actions are her motivation. She doesn't actually care about morality and her own religion, she cares about supporting Aegon and undermining Rhaenyra. That's why she criticizes Valyrian incest then turns around and forces Helaena to marry Aegon. That's why she calls Jace and Luke savages when her own son bullies his siblings constantly and later rapes women. That's why she harps on about honor and decency while actively protecting and covering up the actions of a rapist, a murderer, and a kinslayer. That's why she removes the Valyrian heraldry while Rhaenyra is gone and replaces them with the symbols of the Faith.

She's literally the definition of the hypocritical woman for Trump. She harps on and on about morals then turns around and does reprehensible things for her own gain. She complains constantly about a culture different from hers and actively tries to remove its influence. She hates people who don't conform to her ideas.

Alicent isn't a good person, period. She's a hypocrite, constantly upholds the patriarchy, sacrifices others for the sake of her interests, and is xenophobic. The efforts to take her flaws and project them on other characters, usually Rhaenyra, by her stans is ridiculous and really shows how little they actually like her character. They like her aesthetic and the idea of a perfect suffering victim.

A funny romance protagonist. What a breath of fresh air! Funny girls don't usually mesh well with yanderes, but it works here. Our heroine is obsessed with finishing her bucket list before her early death. So, she ignores all of the red flags. She marches up to the Legendary Monster Duke, and she says she wants to date him casually. Just for the hell of it.

Lariette is a good daughter. She does paperwork. She helps her father hold up his failing family. She puts up with her bratty brother. The problem is her family doesn't value her. She's pretty, so they try to sell her to an old rich guy. When Lariette gets diagnosed with Too Much Mana disease she knows she's doomed.

So, she beats up her ugly fiance and she leaves.

Lmao.

She's super good at purification magic, so she decides to sell her marketable skill...wait. Purification wizards are not in high demand. Healers are easier to use. So, she's broke. Lol. Her bag gets stolen too. She gets saved, violently, by a handsome man.

Asrahan is a Weird Duke. He got cursed when he was really young. A witch gave him rotting flesh, and the eternal stench of death. He's handsome, but his cursed body is repulsive. He's very lonely. Only a mega strong purification wizard can save him, and he hasn't found one. No one is willing to go near the living corpse.

Lariette isn't affected by his aura, because she's even more powerful than she thinks she is. She's good with fire and healing, but she doesn’t know she's on par with the pope.

She asks him to date her. He says no and she offers a purification contract instead.

He accepts.

Try to think about it from his point of view. People have been vomiting in fear at the sight of him since he was like seven. Now, a gorgeous woman sings his praises daily. Plus, she makes the smell go away. It's a slow process though, because his curse is a nasty one. They get even closer because of it. Purification is super draining. He appreciates the pain Lariette goes through for his sake.

Poor Asrahan turned to violence as a young man. His mom died too (of course) so he went to war to be surrounded by other corpses. He is the strongest guy around. His nasty aura makes him a hard opponent to beat too. It is sad though. Asrahan gets along great with his butler, but he has no friends his age and zero experience with women. Even though he's twenty seven. That's rough.

Lariette's old fiance tries to punish her for leaving. Asrahan immediately beheads the men he hired. He cuts off the old man's arm as a warning too. Asrahan doesn't completely accept his feelings for a while. He really sees himself as a monster. He isn't going to let Lariette leave though. Every time he thinks about becoming pure and free of the curse...he isn't happy because that means she'll leave.

Priest Doha is a great character, because he's not a real yandere. He's possessive because Lariette is special. He does fall for her, but his attraction is rooted in selfishness. Asrahan doesn't think he's good enough for Lariette, because she's so wonderful. Plus he also slices heads off. He beats priest guy no problem. Lariette chooses him. There is no contest.

Lariette rushes their dating life. Asrahan gets jealous of Doha and they start dating. Lariette wants to do it all before she dies. She also thinks Asrahan is experienced, with lots of past girlfriends. She can't comprehend how scary the corpse thing is, because she can't sense it. Asrahan doesn't handle being in lust for the first time well, but he tries his best. Consent. Cool!

Every other character sees Asrahan as a cold guy. Just because he killed thousands of men and his skin is purple and he sometimes goes into berserker rages blahblahblah. So judgemental.

I'm kidding.

Lariette realizes she messed up when the doctor says she's fine. She got misdiagnosed. Immediately after that she has to face the consequences. Asrahan is very kind to her....and that’s it. He doesn't need anyone else. He's so used to being alone. Having love is more than enough fulfillment for him, which is bad. She's got a life to live, and she won't get any freedom if she stays with her corpse boyfriend.

As you may know, the thing with the selection of your house goes beyond your personality: they look for your core values. That's the whole reason why Hermione was a Gryffindor even as she is a nerd, and the reason Harry could be a Slytherin. So that was also my process for choosing each of their houses:

Yeah, hot take: Lucifer is a Hufflepuff.

LUCIFER - HUFFLEPUFF

Ok, hear me out before screaming about him being Slytherin!

The core values of Hufflepuff are: Loyalty, patience, hard work, and fair play.

The only thing that is above his pride (as a demon, because that's his sin and he was shaped after it), is his loyalty to his family. He said so after falling and giving his loyalty to Diavolo: anything for his family, even if that breaks him in the process.

He also praises MC when they work hard and he is a workaholic. Another thing that can break his walls of pride is his loyalty to Diavolo and MC... because those things mean more to him than his own sin.

He is incredibly tolerant and has great patience with his brothers, MC, Diavolo, and Barbatos. He also tries to play fair (although his fairness is more into the eye-for-an-eye).

He can also be incredibly dependent on his brothers, even if he tries hard to be independent. He just can't see a life without them (to the point that when they are looking for Thirteen it's implied that he was tempted hearing MC and his brothers' voice. He is the only one, along Mammon, that is tempted with MC).

Is also pretty clear he is not driven by ambition or seek of power. If he tries to be flawless and be powerful is because he thinks it is the best way to protect his brothers, not for his own desire. In fact, it's quite clear in some chapters that he does get tired of that facade. So yeah, he can't be Slytherin at the core.

MAMMON - GRYFFINDOR

The core values of Gryffindor are: Bravery, helping others, and chivalry.

Mammon gives everything he has to help others, even if it's not his family or friends: a child with the witches, a puppy he found, MC when they were new in the Devildom, and he is the whole reason why his brothers and himself are the seven lords of the Devildom. He was even tempted by the grim reapers' house by hearing MC's voice and go with them.

Even if he has wishes, he can be really unselfish and put his wishes under the ones of others. Buy MC things even if he wanted to buy something for himself? Yup, he does that a lot.

He also is very brave, he was the one who stood up against Lucifer, Diavolo, and even God (he was the second hand of Lucifer for a reason). He is so brave that he can watch horror movies even if he becomes a baby and he wishes to fight his inner fears for the sake of others.

LEVIATHAN - HUFFLEPUFF

The core values of Hufflepuff are: Loyalty, patience, hard work, and fair play.

Levithan has as the top priority the concept of friendship and the loyalty towards it.

Even if he doesn't have a lot of "I care for them" in his list, when you are in it, it's hard to be out of it.

He also accepts challenges if he feels like it would be a fair one and he actually accepted the end of that test with MC in the first season. That was what it was, even if he didn't like it.

He puts a lot of effort into his cosplays and games and he is really grateful when someone tries hard for him, too.

SATAN - RAVENCLAW

The core values of Ravenclaw are: Intelligence, creativity, knowledge, planning ahead, and wit. 

Satan is all about looking for knowledge (because he is traumatized lmao). He has books and spells for almost everything and he actually seeks who he is beyond his sin and the wrath of Lucifer.

He thinks the best way to resolve any conflict is to think of ways to prevent them and if they are happening, look for solutions on knowledge.

He also loves to play with ideas and schemes, even if he ends up not doing them.

He seems to really look down on people who aren't interested in learning and growing. He thinks of Lucifer as stubborn and way too must-do-it-in-this-way and that makes him angry, but he can give him his respects when Lucifer does something clever. He respects his brothers when they are creative or witty, and that's one of the reasons why he liked Belphie from the very beginning.

The journey to Winterfell was long and excruciating. The land you came from was nothing like Winterfell. Yours was filled with exotic animals, it rained nearly almost everyday, and the heat was so hot you could melt.

Maybe Winterfell would be a nice change, perhaps this Robb Stark man would be a good husband to you, and not beat you or be disloyal as you knew some women's husbands to be.

Your father wanted you to marry the heir to Winterfell, thinking it would strengthen your connections with the Starks.

Robb was seven years older than you. You only being 14 and him 21.

"Father, are we nearly there yet?" You asked nervously. In truth, you did not want to marry this Robb Stark, you wanted to marry someone of your own age, someone of your own choosing.

"Yes, nearly. Just another day." Your father answered in a coarse voice.

You had finally arrived in Winterfell. The Starks were all lined up. There was one that stood out from them all. You assumed he was the bastard, Jon Snow. He looked nothing like Lady Stark. He had dark brown curls, almost black and his eyes were the exact same too. He looked like he tried hard to earn a place beside his half-siblings.

Your father and Ned Stark gave a curt nod to each other, they weren't as close as Ned and King Robert.

"Lord Y/L/N." Ned started, your father replying with "Lord Stark."

As they conversated, you eyed the Stark children. The one you were betrothed to, Robb Stark, had brown curly hair and tried to look like he had authority. Then there was Sansa, with fiery red hair, icy blue eyes and a kind smile graced her soft pink lips. There was Arya, her hair was wild and her clothes were all over the place. Rickon was the youngest, with golden hair and eyes that twinned Sansa's. Lastly, your eyes travelled to...wait...that was Bran Stark?!

Seven hells, he's gorgeous...

His hair was a fair shade of brown, adorned with light curls. His eyes were dark chocolate, you could stare into forever, perhaps you could find the universe in them if you gazed long enough. His lips were a cherry red, and his cheeks sprinkled with light freckles.

Oh gods, his nose is so big...

"Y/n." Your father had been calling your name for the past five minutes. "Come and say hello."

Bran had noticed your intense gaping at him, so he gave you a good observation too. A light blush appeared across his cheeks when he realised everyone had caught you both, so he ducked his head down, but his eyes never left your figure.

The Starks of Winterfell held a feast for you and your families arrival.

The air in the room was getting too stuffy, so you left your seat next to your mother and went outside.

You walked farther away and found yourself in the training grounds, finding Jon teaching Bran a few things about swords.

"You have to hold it like this with a tight grip but not too tight-"

"Why aren't you inside with everyone else?"

They both shot round not expecting you to be there.

Bran gulped, looking at Jon, then diverting his eyes to the ground.

"Why aren't you mi'lady/mi'lord?" Jon knew Bran wouldn't speak to you until after he got over the shock of your existence.

"I don't like it in there." It felt a little bit difficult trying to make conversation with them as they were awkward people. "Also it's a little bit boring, sick of hearing about marriages."

Bran let out a little huff of amusement, he had grown jealous over Robb.

You had been staying in Winterfell and your relationship with the Stark children had grown.

You and Robb were still very distant with each other, both of you always doing your own thing. You were fine with it, as you were closer to the other other Stark boys, especially one in particular.

"Bran, stop."

Both of you were sat under a tree, eating fruit you had both picked. He had forbidden himself from climbing ever since he fell out of that tower and fell into a coma for a few months.

"I'm not doing anything."

"You're trying to hold my hand." You could feel his little finger brushing against your own on top of the fur you were sat on.

You watched as he jutted his bottom lip out of annoyance, he really, really wanted to hold your hand but didn't know how to ask.

Sighing, you took his hand into yours, relishing in the warmth it provided you.

Bran rested his head against your shoulder, his breath tickling your ear. "I wish I could hold your hand all the time."

It was like time stopped. Everything was perfect, you and bran together, but then you had realised that you hadn't been trying to stop your betrothal to Robb at all, you had Bran right beside you and you weren't snatching him up like you could've done.

"I'm going to meet you in your room tonight."

"Bran, Bran open the door." It was the middle of the night, and you kept your word, making your way to his room once you knew everyone was asleep.

You heard the handle rattle and the door opened to reveal a very tired Bran who was barely awake.

"Y/n?" He was very much awake now once he realised you were still in your night clothes. "Come on it must be freezing out there." Bran grabbed your wrist and dragged you inside, some of the candles and the fire was still lit. Was he waiting for you?

"I didn't think you'd actually come, you did take a long time." He averted his eyes, too overwhelmed to look into yours.

"I had to wait 'till midnight, my parents notice everything." You licked your lips before continuing. "My mother specially, she has noticed that we have been spending lots of time together."

Gods, please say our time doesn't have to end, Bran thought.

"My mother will mention it to my father." You took his hands in yours, noticing how clammy they were. "I shall not be separated from you, I am yours and you are mine."

"...I am yours?"

"And you are mine my love, no matter who I marry, whether it is a Dornish man, or a Northern man, you will always be the one to hold my heart."

"You will always hold my heart, no one can ever compare to you."

None of you could hold back anymore. You smashed your lips together, letting your hands roam wherever they wanted.

You opened your mouth and his tongue slid in. His hands caressed your face as yours rested on his chest.

"I don't want to go too far." Bran said, his eyes glazed like he just drunk two cups of wine.

"We won't."

In the morning before everyone woke, you snuck away, leaving Bran to sleep soundly for a few more hours, not noticing the bruise forming on your neck.

Your maids were currently dressing you, choosing what shoes you should wear, how to have your hair styled etc when your mother came in.

"Ah, there you are, your father requests your presence." She said as she crossed her hands in front of her.

"What does he want to talk with me about?" You said, turning towards her once the maids had finished.

"He-what's that?" Your mother pointed to a spot on your neck

You looked down to where she was pointing, just to see a red bruise which had formed. The colour in your face drained.

"Mother-" She took you by the arm. "Come with me now, your father will want to know who did this.

Your father was extremely angry when your mother had taken you to him. He was so angry in fact, that he startled the Starks that were enjoying their peaceful morning with their delicious breakfast.

Ned quickly stood, trying to calm your father.

"My lord, I assure you we will find out which one of our children did this." His wife, Lady Catelyn tried to reassure him.

"You best do, and whoever it is, see they are punished." Your father gave a disgusted look to the Stark children and stormed out of the hall, leaving you and your mother there.

"Come, child." Your mother beckoned you away.

You gave one last look towards the Starks, holding eye contact with Bran. You mouthed 'I'm sorry' as you were gently pushed through the doors.

Catelyn paced back and forth as she looked at her children, Ned stood in the corner letting his wife do the talking.

NOTE: NO HATE ON ZEVLOR FANS I DON'T WANT TO SEEM LIKE AN ASS THIS IS JUST MY OPINION, IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SEE IT SCROLL- also if I'm misremembering/misinterpreting details pls lmk and I'll edit the post, it's hard to remember with 340+ hours of gameplay across a handfull of runs and I'm totally willing to admit I'm wrong lmao

Explanation on why I hate Zevlor below ⬇️

First of all, it is NOT visual. While I don't personally find him attractive I'm not gonna sit here and be like "oh he isn't a cute hot fictional man who is seven feet with a slutty waist 😭😭" no, I just hate this guy's personality. Looks have nothing to do with it.

My main reason is I personally feel like he is a bad leader of the teiflings, and not for all the reasons you may instantly think of. I don't actually blame him for abandoning the teiflings due to the cult influence. That was NOT his fault, it's literally a cult that can control your mind and if I hated him for it that would mean I would also have to hate Minsc, Minthara, and the Duke, which I don't. I like all those characters. The difference is his actions before and after.

Let's start with before. Now in the Grove it is ABUNDATLY clear these teiflings have no hope. Like seriously Lakrissa (I think that's her name) places a bet with you and she is betting that they won't survive. Now obviously you don't see his actions until you show up but if under his leadership all the teiflings have no hope for their survival, it's reasonable to assume Zevlor was never a very inspiring leader. A good leader should be able to help his people have faith in themselves, and those people managed to escape the literal HELLS. While it isn't entirely up to him how they feel surely he could have helped them a little in that area, but clearly he hasn't.

After Tav shows up things change a bit. Now I don't fault him for getting help, that was a tactical move on his end. His people were suffering and he saw hope from these random travelers that MAYBE they could survive. My gripe here is why the hell would he put the fate of all the teiflings, and to some extent the Grove, on four people he has never met before ever. Like he saw them fight once and just sent them off. What he should have done was gone with them to make sure things went smoothly and help. Or, in the scenario that he didn't want to leave the Grove (or rather the teiflings) without their leader, he could have at the very least sent some people out with them. Like, in the situation that you end up betraying the Grove, that is partially on him for the fact that he gave their personal info and location to some random people and went "yeah this will not backfire at all." And as proof that it isn't that crazy to imagine the leader helping, look at Halsin. He is kidnapped and knows the Grove leader isn't there, yet the moment he is free he doesn't just rush back to the Grove and tell Tav to fix his problems. He instead stays and helps fight the leaders (if you so choose.) That is the RIGHT thing to do. Not only did he not just trust a total stranger, but he actually helped in return for being aided. Zevlor does NONE of that. Hell- when you do save the teiflings in act two he doesn't give you shit. The teiflings themselves do.

Speaking of act two, can we talk about how Rolan gave them hope for the first time in probably ages? Sure Tav helped, but going back to the point I said earlier- they had NO HOPE with Zevlor as leader. But, when they quite literally had just been abandoned by the guy who was supposed to protect them, ROLAN of all people showed up and saved them. I feel like Zevlor, to a certain extent, can't face danger all that well, something a leader should be able to do. But Rolan in saving them gave them hope when they'd just been abandoned. Something Zevlor couldn't manage for probably months maybe even years (I can't remember the exact timeline.)

Now as a sort of counterclaim, I'm well aware someone is pushing up their glasses, rolling up their sleeves, and going "Aha! You fool- Zevlor comes back for the final battle against the absolute! Blah blah that's good because-" shhhh. Yes, I do give Zevlor SOME credit here. It is super awesome that he came and helped Tav.. however. Me personally I feel like that wasn't the right thing to even do at that point. Better than doing nothing yeah but still bad. See- in act three if you speak to some of the teiflings who are outside Wyrm's Crossing you can hear them saying they haven't heard from Zevlor since he left them. He vanished, completely. That is not okay at all. I know they are pissed at him so maybe he wanted to give them space but considering the fact that they are homeless, probably poor, just narrowly escaped death a few too many times, the last thing they need is to also be leaderless. At the very least he could have sent a letter saying what even happened to him, but what he should have done was go back to them and try and work things out. If they ended up saying they didn't want him anymore fine whatever, he could then go. But he literally says sorry for abandoning them and proceeds to continue to do so. They have no leader, and probably no idea how to get into Baldur's Gate. How could he just leave them that way? And I know he went to help Tav but he has seen before Tav is a perfectly capable person. Tav isn't the one he needs to focus on saving and making things up to, it's his people. Especially since some of those people are children and probably orphans on top of that. And of course I don't know if he does after the events of the game, he totally could. But my point still stands.

In conclusion, it is my OPINION that Zevlor is not a good leader, and honestly a sad excuse for one. This is all just from memory and I'm tired ASF so sorry if it sounds stupid I'm just getting my thoughts out. And if a Zevlor fan reads this I encourage you to comment or send an ask about why you like him because honestly I'm very curious! It's two days into the summer break and I'm already going through vroom vroom withdrawals, so I re-read Seven Years then decided to nitpick season 5 of DTS. Seven Years is so stuck in my head (especially with last weekend's ass grab) that I started to wonder how Christian and Toto's relationship would affect DTS. Would there be a full episode about their relationship? Would they be more included in each other's episodes? Would Netflix try to get footage of the two acting like a couple? The only guarantee is that Tumblr would be analysis every interaction between the two because we already do that.

personally i didn’t make dts a thing in seven years because i just didn’t want to deal with the mess of it. it adds a whole other layer of emotional clusterfucks of being exposed to the wider public (outside of the f1 bubble even), even more cameras following them around the paddock, mic-ed up 24/7. there is a snippet i started writing after the whole “change your fucking car” business that i couldn’t even finish because the whole thing was so messy and i could not come up with a proper way to solve this because i was so embarrassed for them lmao.

but let’s walk for a second. let’s say their involuntary outing happens and dts are around for it all, i do think netflix would be a perfect vessel to promote lgbtq+ visibility and rights in motorsports and both pr teams would jump at the chance. obviously an outing like this is a huge fuck up marketing wise, nothing was planned, no one was prepared for it so they’d need to act quick and with netflix around, they’d have the perfect opportunity to angle the narrative any way they want. plus for netflix it would obviously mean Millions. everyone and their mother would watch the new season.

not sure they’d have a full episode. don’t think christian or toto would agree to this during some of the worst moments of their lives lol and in seven years i tried my best to not glorify or romanticise a shitty situation like being outed by someone else against your will. but i do think they’d both still want to be on dts, they enjoy the spotlight and the attention too much. in my mind they’d both show up to their netflix interviews smirking, a little ala “look at you and your lil cameras, i had a secret you couldn’t even imagine being true, you only know the things i choose to tell you, i’m in charge here”. to me that’s kind of a power move. i also think certain questions would simply be blacklisted so all we’d get would be ambiguous layered eye-twinkling comments about the rival team principal while touching their wedding rings. “oh toto slammed that desk *eye roll* yeah he’s so emotional *smirk*” or “christian has a big mouth, don’t believe everything he says, i don’t” or “singapore last year? yeah i think…. i think we won. did we? can’t remember, i was a little busy” but they don’t ever talk about singapore directly.

post outing i don’t think we’d get much husband material on dts. i tried very hard to write them as being private about their relationship and i still think that rings true, even post outing. there were instances where i thought it’d be significant and meaningful to them as a couple to show their support for each other a little more publicly (or maybe just a little less secretively) but those moments were about them more so than an act for the public or the cameras. in my mind they wouldn’t walk hand in hand through the paddock just because they can, not mid season on a thursday morning anyway. they’re professionals and they’re at work. but it’s a different thing when a netflix camera zooms in on them through a window and they’re having a quiet lunch tucked away in some corner of rb hospitality, or a brush of hands or a discreet smile when they pass each other somewhere and a camera is around to pick up on it.

so that’s my take! the most interesting angle to me though is how the public perception suddenly changes from seeing them as individuals to seeing them as a unit. it rewires your brain from “oh these two are fun, they hate each other” to “oh these two….. don’t hate each other. in actuality they…. they seem to love each other enough to be…. husbands. huh”

And it was shaping up to be a terrible, horrible, no good day. Your hair is a rats nest from the biting wind and relentless rain, your clothes are soaked through to the point of your off white shirt being see through, and your makeup is beyond being able to be fixed so now you look like you’re back in your high school scene years of looking like a trash panda(no h8, m8).

Your lip is trembling, and you bite your lip to the point of nearly breaking skin. As soon as your mom lets you go with murmurs of entertaining the guests for a bit, another pair of arms scoops you up into a tight hug, rocking you two back and forth as they continually kiss the top of your hair. Voices around you are asking if you’re okay or if you need anything. You’re too distraught to reply, choosing to just delve deeper into the chest of your current solace instead.

They smell like strawberries, like your shampoo, and you’re able to conclude whose arms you’re in. There’s only one person who always indulges themselves in your shower products, claiming that women’s products are far more superior than mens – Taehyung.

His deep, baritone voice can be felt and heard within the depths of his chest as he speaks, your ear pressed firmly against it. His hand, along with others you notice, are either touching you, caressing you, or rubbing you in solidarity.

“What happened, y/n?”

You let out a broken whimper. You then hear the cork of a wine bottle being pulled out and someone pouring a glass. A mug that has a picture of Bam on it is thrust in front of your face as soon as you pull away from Taehyung’s hug. Following the hand to the face of your liquor fairy, you find Min Yoongi.

He’s scratching the side of his face as he waits for you to take it, there’s a worry line forming between his brows as he frowns at your distressed state. He hates seeing you this way.

“Sorry, it’s the first cup I could find. Figured it wouldn’t matter anyways.”

“I think it’s better than a boring wine glass.”

Jungkook chimes in from close by, and you see him leaning against the counter next to you. Just like Yoongi, even though he’s cracking jokes, his expression is also one of worry. When you lock eyes with Jungkook, he’s able to give you his signature bunny toothed smile, albeit small, and it’s enough to make you crack a small smile of your own.

Taking the mug into your hands, you shift so your back is now leaning against Taehyung’s, his hands wrap themselves loosely around your waist, as he rests his chin lightly on your shoulder. Each breath he takes, you can feel the warmth from his nose tickle your neck. The sensation brings goosebumps to your skin.

Namjoon notices you shiver and thinks you’re cold from being wet. He shrugs off his cardigan and steps around Jungkook to maneuver it around your shoulders, securing it around your front that he does his best to not look at, considering the situation.

“Was your boss being a grade A asshole again?”

Jimin’s head pokes itself from behind Namjoon’s broad shoulders, as he uses the kitchen island to gain enough leverage to heave himself over the tall giant to see you. Jin waves a hand in the air with anger, brows furrowing.

“Aiiiiish! You should quit that job, y/n! They don’t deserve you from the way they constantly treat you over there!”

“Seriously. You know we’ll help support you until you can find another job. We hate seeing you come home so exhausted and defeated all the time.”

Hoseok’s normal cheery voice is long gone, he leans sideways against the kitchen island next to Jimin and nods at you with a grimace.

“Maybe you’re right.”

They collectively let out a sigh of relief that has you giving them a ‘really?’ look as you chug the wine down, leaving the mug empty. This time, Jungkook takes over for Yoongi to refill your mug. His tattooed covered hand is back within your sight in seconds. When you take it, he gently pushes the hair that’s been partially shielding your face this entire time behind your ear. You unconsciously lean into his hand – it’s warm, it’s soothing. He gives a genuine smile at your reaction to his touch.

Taehyung’s grip on your waist tightens considerably. You look at him, but his eyes are surveying those around you with a look of regret.

“We’re sorry we didn’t listen to you when you said you didn’t want a surprise party, y/n.”

Namjoon clears his throat and gains your attention next. He seems just as guilty, as do the rest of the boys you realize. As much as you didn’t want one, it was true, you would endure a thousand more surprise parties if it meant that they still genuinely enjoyed throwing them for you. You — the horror loving, short, should be wearing glasses all the time but you only wear them half the time, hard working, dirty and dark sense of humor spewing, and even when you have your sourpuss moments still somehow radiate the sun out of your ass cause you have a mama bear instinct for those around you — you.

The one they cherish, adore, pretend to hate but actually love when you steal and wear their clothes even when all they do is drown you, and most importantly who they love.

You go to open your mouth and reassure them that it’s okay, they don’t need to feel bad for just wanting to make you feel more special than you already do on a daily basis by them, but a knock on the door that connects the two rooms quiets the room.

Your adorable mom pokes her head in with a hesitant smile.

“Just wanted to let you know that you have the house to yourselves, your father and I told them you weren’t feeling well and that we would postpone for another day. They all were very polite and wished you well. You have a good group of people in your life, dear.”

An authentic smile appears on your face for the first time that day, and you can’t help but agree.

“I do. Friends and family.”

You pat Taehyung’s hands that have moved to lay on your stomach and he unfurls himself from you so you can stand on your own. You give him a peck on the cheek that has his boxy grin on full display, a light hue to his cheeks accompanies it. You do the same for each of the male’s in front of you that share the same reaction.

“Your father and I are going to head out as well and let you young folk enjoy the rest of the night to the fullest.” You don’t miss the wink she sends your way before promptly closing the door and leaving.

You’re mortified at your mother’s words, more than well aware that you’ve yet to take that next step with them, and she knows it. You groan in embarrassment, until a multitude of hands gently push against your back to lead you out of the kitchen and back into the living room that’s still fully decked out in ribbons, frills, balloons, confetti, and much more. A long table houses a wide variety of your favorite foods and desserts, along with a separate table that’s meant for all your gifts both big and small.

Once again, your lip trembles, and eyes pool with water that streams down your cheeks like rivers. When the boys hear a sniffle, they go into full out panic mode. Jungkook is closest, his hands are on your shoulders in seconds as he hunches over to be face to face with yours. His expression that was once one of concern, changes to confusion when he sees a wide smile adorning your face instead.

The other male’s around the room are busy attempting to take down the decor, believing it’s what’s causing you to be upset. Your smile turns into a frown. Jungkook speaks his mind.

“Y/N? Baby? You okay? Is this all too much? Do you want to just watch movies or go lay down in bed? I just did laundry, so I can get you a new set of clothes real quick?”

He’s talking a mile a minute, and it’s hard for your clouded mind to register all he’s said at first. Once you do, does your smile he loves return in full force. You curl a hand around his neck to give him a quick, yet meaningful kiss on his parted lips that were about to word vomit even more. You linger enough to feel the pressure of his own lips return the kiss, then you pull away.

“I’m good, koo. Great, actually. And a fresh set of clothes sounds really good right now.”

He smacks his lips, subconsciously poking his lip ring with his tongue before he’s nodding at your reply, giving you another chaste forehead kiss before he’s letting you go to more than likely go and fetch said clothes for your drenched figure.

While he’s gone, you cup your hands around your mouth before giving a mildly loud shout in order to gain the attention of the rest of your lovers.

“Guys! It’s okay! You can leave the decor up!”

They all pause in their movements. Jimin is holding a long string of streamers in his arms that he’s continuously trying to keep in his arms, the material piling up easily in minutes due to Namjoon’s natural towering height and fast hands. Jin is both nibbling on the food and packing it up at the same time, one morsel of food is hovering in front of his lips that are wide open to inhale it. Taehyung and Hobi are piling up presents in their arms that they were going to transport into your shared room so you could open them up within the comfort of your bed. Yoongi is—

The lights are dimmed, casting the room into a blanket of near darkness. You turn your head towards the direction of the faint glow of light that casts a multitude of shadows around the room as he walks towards you slowly. The candles all look like they’ve been haphazardly thrown on as if it was a last minute decision to go through with the birthday tradition. Along with the glow of the candles, your heart matches it in light and warmth. Jungkook trails behind the cake holding rapper with a stack of warm clothes, his voice is soft and melodic as he sings ‘happy birthday’. The boys surround you from behind, their voices harmonizing perfectly together.

Placing both of your hands over your heart, you curse inwardly at the tears that are once again threatening to pool over as you quietly suck in a breath and release it. When they get closer, and you’re able to see the cake more clearly, do you let out a full and bellowing laugh. One that has you bent over and now holding your sides at the lewd picture that’s placed on top.

The picture is of all seven of them, their faces are on the bodies of men that are definitely not them – and once you regain your bearings long enough to close your eyes and make a wish (to be with them forever ofc), you proceed to attempt to blow the candles out in one gust. However, you fail to do so and through little fits of remaining laughter do you eventually extinguish them all.

The lights return to their normal, bright setting and now you can see the picture very clearly. The faces are theirs, yes. But the bodies are those of what you believe to be male bdsm strippers set up in various seductive and suggestive poses. You told them you never saw the appeal of receiving strippers for celebrations last week, so they must’ve ordered the cake design shortly after that conversation.

“You guys didn’t.”

Your hands are on either side of your head as you ruffle your soggy hair in disbelief.

“Our, Y/N. As in they’re not just yours. It’s a combined group effort.”

You give a dismissive wave of your hand. You rival that your fur babies shared the same loving sentiment with you as you do towards them. Knowing for a fact that if they all had to choose, they would run straight to you out of all seven men surrounding you. But – you won’t hurt his poor little heart, or theirs. Though, all this talk about your babies has you wishing they were here instead of with your close family members who opted to watch them for the night, you bet.

He cautiously steps out from behind Hobi as you gesture for him to come closer to you. He does, but now you want him to bend down so you can whisper something in his ear. He obliges. His eyes widen, as he nods his head furiously and literally bolts out of the room and down the hallway. The boys give each other wary looks as they watch him disappear around the corner and suspiciously in the direction of your shared bedroom.

In sync, they all advert there eyes back to you, confusion littering their poor, naive, sexy, faces. Namjoon voices all of their collective thoughts into a question.

“What was that about? What did you tell him?”

You run a finger along each of their chests as you pass them in a line, making a point to sashay your hips in the process as you cast a smirk over your shoulder at them with a sultry smile.

“Let’s just say, I won’t be needing those clothes after all, koo.”

Jungkook glances down at the still semi warm pile of clothes that he just fished out of the dryer and back up to your face in time to watch you bite your lip innocently. He gulps, Adam’s apple bobbing at the action. Your smirk turns into one of surprise when said male drops the clothes and scoops you up into a bridal style pose, rushing you both down the hall and out of sight as you throw your head back in laughter and elation, arms tightly secured around his neck as you attempt to hang on for dear life.

It takes only a millisecond for the rest of the boys to sprint after you two, bumping into each other in order to gain the front position and make it to the bedroom first.

Well, all except Yoongi.

“Right. Yeah, no. I’ll just be here, you horndogs!” Yoongi’s monotone voice trails off with no response in return.

He’s still in the same spot holding the cake in his hands with a huff. Setting it gently on the table that still houses a lot of food, he shuffles towards the hallway, a small skip in his step as he goes, but not before giving one last full look at the decor. With a rare, gummy smile, he dutifully turns the lights off and turns to follow the excessive giggling that filters down the hallway. They don’t need a fat electrical bill, you know?

Ice Dance Choreographic Elements Ranked, because you all wanted to know

Basically, in ice dance, there are certain required elements like twizzles, step sequences, and lifts. There are also seven types of “choreographic elements” of which each team can do three of their choice, and I have opinions about which ones they choose

7. Choreographic Assisted Jumps: 2/10 nothingburger

Often a “blink-and-you’ll miss it” affair- just three very short lifts (they’re not even jumps lmao). Some are are super creative and cool (see: Chock and Bates folding human origami). Others are not (see: basically everyone else). Kind of a throwaway element for most, like that one class everyone takes because it’s an easy A

6. Character Choreographic Step Sequence or whatever order those words go in: 4/10 can be fun but also really awkward

Sometimes fun because teams can do basically whatever dance moves they want. Sadly, often what they want is a whole lot of nothing while making dramatic faces at the judges (Turkkila and Versluis have the best character step I’ve seen by far this season with that clock arm move they do while leaning on each other, they understood the assignment) And teams usually make a really awkward stop right by the boards because it has to clearly go across short ways, and it just never flows very nicely with the rest of the program, it’s just kind of a weird time even when otherwise done really well. Gilles and Poirier made it flow pretty nicely tho, good job!

5. Choreographic Twizzling Movement: 5/10 uncommon

Probably the least commonly done because twizzles are hard and teams don’t want to risk messing up, and they don’t really lend themselves well to expressive choreography. Also there are a whole bunch of specific requirements compared to the other choreographic elements. The novelty factor makes them cool to see whenever they do pop up

4. Choreographic Hydroblade: 6/10 new- small sample size

Brand new this season, so I’ve only gotten to see a few. Likely to rise in my rating as I see more. Gilles and Poirier have set the standard

3. Choreographic Slide Move: 8/10 awesome! unless they go for the technicality

So fun to see figure skaters slide on knees and arms and thighs and what have you without the fall deduction they would usually get for doing such things. Sometimes they decide to be lame about it and the “slide” aspect is just a hand down on the ice while otherwise just doing a skating move, but there have been so many cool slide moves ever since it became a thing. They’ll do it as a partial lift, or slide spinning on their knees in hold and then separate while still spinning like Guignard and Fabbri a couple seasons ago, all kinds of fun options, I love love love the one Hawayek and Baker did with her on one knee and him stretching out on the ice with his hand supporting him on her boot

2. Choreographic Lift: 9/10 if it ain’t broke…

The choreographic lift is just an extra lift in the program with fewer rules than the mandatory dance lifts. Just as long as it’s between 3 and 10 seconds long and somebody’s being lifted, they can basically do whatever they want, and the possibilities are endless. A lot of the time, it’s like “whoa they did NOT have to go that hard on an element worth 1.10 base value points” Sometimes they go a little too hard and it’s just kind of over complicated and weird looking, but creativity nonetheless. My favorite at the moment is Lajoie and Lagha where it’s basically a stationary lift and it looks like she’s flying right above the ice with him holding her by one arm and one leg

1. Choreographic Spin Move: 10/10 the best don’t @ me

I’ve never been disappointed by a choreographic spin move. They are just so fun, every single one of them. My favorite by far is the type like Chock and Bates last season where he was standing and holding her by the hand while she was in a near split on the ice, and all the similar ones. Spin moves that seem a lot like a dance spin except somebody’s on two feet are less common and therefore a novelty. Virtue and Moir did that cool fan kick and then spun in a dance hold. So much fun to be had, especially at those Olympics where the spin move was mandatory and we got to see so many creative things. Oh oh! and the one Lim and Quan did last season where he spun her around and dipped her while she was in arabesque, that was so neat! Oh and Lauriault and le Gac where she’s somehow laying on his boot? See??? So many good ones, I keep thinking of more

Favourite character: B'Elanna Torres, although Kathryn Janeway is a close second (I do have a Janeway-themed url, after all😌)

Second favourite character: okay, I'll talk about Janeway here! Gosh what a deeply flawed individual. She's awesome, and yes, incredibly charismatic and badass, but she's also haunted, complex, and scarily capable of hurting those closest to her (which she does. Like, a lot.) She ends up in charge of a seemingly endless mission, and she cannot afford to crack- not in front of her crew, and not even really in secret- so she begins this seven-year process of what basically amounts to dehumanising herself. Her arc is almost like a long-form merging with Voyager the ship- she is Voyager, and Voyager is her! She will protect her crew and bring them home. She will ensure they get to survive. (What happens to her? Well, she knows she can and will never be the same, but she can't and doesn't think about that right now). She made a mistake and her crew paid the price and the guilt of this eats at her every day, but she cannot afford to acknowledge it or she'll go insane. She tries so hard to stick to her principles but once she's violated a few she starts thinking of her soul as this already-corrupted thing- she knows she can live with it, so why not do something else that's a bit messed up! Better me than any of my crew, right! Like- no wonder she couldn't move on with her life once Voyager reached the Alpha Quadrant in the Endgame timeline. No wonder she had to travel back in time to die in the past. She is so changed by the events of this show that the past the only place she can truly belong. Ugh!!!! I have so many feelings about her!!

Least favourite character: I dislike voyager!Q so much I actually skip all his episodes on rewatch lmao. And I'm someone who actually quite enjoys him on TNG! He's this all-powerful all-knowing omnipotent being who could literally be off anywhere any time doing anything he wanted, and yet he chooses to keep coming back to this one starship just to flirt with the most boring man alive. He literally got kicked out of the Q Continuum for having too much of a hyperfixation on his blorbo. That's funny! And compelling! Unfortunately the Voyager writers did not understand what made this work and decided his only trait was *irritates everybody* (including the audience lol). What he and Picard had was a funny back and forth, a snarky Quodo-style "these horrible old men deserve each other" rivalry. What he and Janeway have is sexual harassment played for laughs 🙃

The character I'm most like: Kes - I went into more detail here :)

Favourite pairing: B7 if we're talking non-canon ships! From canon, uhhhh I guess whatever was going on between Janeway and Chakotay in 'Resolutions' & Tom/B'Elanna before they got together

Least favourite pairing: I don't know if I have one? C7 is the popular answer but I literally straight up forget it exists because it's such a small part of the show, like it doesn't even show up for reals until the finale. I'm not a fan of the way they wrote Tom/B'Elanna for basically all of S5 and S6, and the damage control they did in S7 wasn't bad imo but also felt too little too late. I also dislike Kes/Neelix, though I do think it had potential to be a really interesting breakup arc lol

Favourite moment: That scene from 'Year of Hell' where Janeway has given the order to abandon ship and everyone else is so reluctant to desert the bridge and it looks soooo banged up but she still won't abandon it.... and then Tuvok gives her that hug goodbye..... and she glances at that little gift Chakotay made for her which she didn't have the heart to recycle..... and she talks about what Voyager means to her, and why she has to go down with the ship...... my heart😭

Rating out of 10: Objectively an 8/10, I think the early seasons are GREAT and around midway through they do sort of run out of ideas thanks to their commitment to being as episodic as possible and sidelining more than half the main cast as well as refusing to let the guest cast build up or develop. The show genuinely suffers for it imo! There's a lot of wasted potential, as well as biases of the time that prevented it from reaching true heights- I also wholeheartedly think this show ruined the Borg lol, now 75% more human and 200% less intimidating! However it's also got so many positives- I adore all the main characters so much, and the premise itself gives me so many feels that in my heart it's an 11/10🥰

Their OC: Ambrose was born and raised in a small and poor village with hard working parents and a sick little brother. Due to their massive poverty love wasn't something he received from his parents. Only thing keeping the thougtful and sensitive boy from commiting suicide are his brother and old texts such as diary entries or historical records. When his brother then died of his illness, taking his mother to the grave barely a week later and his father to leave him at 17 years old Ambrose finally commits suicide, but awakes later on as a ghost, damned to haunt the mysterious mansion next to the village along with four other ghosts. During his, now neverending life, the biggest challenge for him is overcoming his grief and depression with the help of his friends and realising that he is worthy of love. He likes to spend his immortal days with researching history and taking long walks outside.

My OC: Elinor was born in a noble family of Westeros, her father was the youngest of his family and herself was the middle child of three siblings. Her devotion for the faith of the Seven grew as she grew up, her mother thought as she entered an age where she was ready to marry, she would get over her faith. But she didn't. Thus, instead of marrying any noble men, she became a novice in the order of Septas. After a fantastic religious training, she took a vow of chastity and became Septa Elinor. Queen Aemma choose her, because of her excellent training, to educate Princess Rhaenyra (and Lady Alicent).

How they'd interact: Like you said, Elinor should need a special ability to see ghost as Ambrose is one lmao.

Their first interation, Elinor would think is a joke from Rhaenyra. She would try to keep her cool, as she thinks the girls are watching her during the interaction. But, the moment she believes it isn't a prank, she would start praying as she would think she's dead.

But, after the initial shock of their weird situtation, I think Elinor would listen Ambrose's struggles and worries as, normally Septas also receive confessions and help them.

Oedipus the King in ST

I find that ST and Oedipus Rex have some very interesting similarities. Specifically Robert Fagles (Penguin Classics) translation, which I believe is the most widespread English translation of Sophocles' play- which is important to mention since I will be talking about the specific word choice/metaphors used in this version which may not be found in other translations.

In particular I want to talk about how Oedipus could be inspiration for the very general plot points of S2 and S3 plus the basis for Vecna's Curse in S4.

Edward, Henry, and Richard- All Meaning Some Variation of Ruler or King

While I do think the writers pick and choose which names will have significant meaning and which don't, I do think its particularly interesting that these three significant names generally have the same connotation:

Edward

Means "rich guard", derived from the Old English elements ead "wealth, fortune" and weard "guard". This was the name of several Anglo-Saxon kings, the last being Saint Edward the Confessor shortly before the Norman Conquest in the 11th century. He was known as a just ruler, and because of his popularity his name remained in use after the conquest when most other Old English names were replaced by Norman ones. The 13th-century Plantagenet king Henry III named his son and successor after the saint, and seven subsequent kings of England were also named Edward.

(and okay this maybe wasn't intentional but it's very interesting that St. Edward is the patron saint of kings and also shitty marriages lmao):

Henry

From the Germanic name Heimirich meaning "home ruler", composed of the elements heim "home" and rih "ruler". Heinrich was popular among continental royalty, being the name of seven German kings, starting with the 10th-century Henry I the Fowler (the first of the Saxon kings), and four French kings. In France it was usually rendered Henri from the Latin form Henricus. The Normans introduced the French form to England, and it was subsequently used by eight kings, ending with the infamous Henry VIII in the 16th century.

And again, funnily enough, Enzo (used and then reused) is written as a related name to Henry.

Richard

Means "brave ruler", derived from the Old German elements rih "ruler, king" and hart "hard, firm, brave, hardy". This was the name of three early dukes of Normandy. The Normans introduced it to England when they invaded in the 11th century, and it has been very common there since that time. It was borne by three kings of England including the 12th-century Richard I the Lionheart, one of the leaders of the Third Crusade.

Why is this significant? Well there are three Theban Plays: Oedipus Rex/Oedipus Tyrannus/Oedipus the King, Oedipus at Colonus, and Antigone.

The plot can be very simplistically broken down this way: due to a series of events, Oedipus learns of his fate to kill his own father and marry his own mother. He runs away from how to avoid this fate (unknowing that his "parents" are not his biological parents but his adoptive parents). He meets men at crossroads, and unknowing that this man is his father, he kills him. He comes across Thebes, defeats the Sphinx, and marries the queen of Thebes, becoming the King of Thebes- also unknowing that the queen of Thebes is his mother. Thebes starts to suffer from a "curse" and in trying to find the "source" (the murderer of King Laius) of this curse, Oedipus unintentionally exposes himself as having fell into his fate unintentionally- gauging his own eyes out once he finally sees the "truth". He is then exiled from Thebes.

I have not read the other two plays so I can't speak on them, and the plays are not in a continuous narrative so there are inconsistencies between the three. Richard, Edward, and Henry all reference kings, but not only that, the happenings in Hawkins could be paralleling to the "curse" Thebes starting from s2.

Hawkins as Thebes

We're shown in s2 that as the UD merges closer and closer to Hawkins that specifically their "crops" ie pumpkins start to rot:

Creon, Oedipus' brother in law, then states that the Oracle of Delphi states that they must "drive the corruption from the land" and "don't nurse it in your soil- root it out!", very similar to the imagery we get in s2 of the UD vines "nursed" under Hawkin's soil:

I believe Hopper at some point compares this to a "cancer".

Of course, the corruption only continues when a portal to the UD is open- so there is some "source" that drives this. And to "cleanse" their city, they must find the source (which ironically is Oedipus):

In s3 we see a continuation of that "corruption" when the Soviets open their portal, awaken a piece of vine that was left in the RSU. The "source" is mentioned repeatedly in s3 however never goes anywhere:

s3 also makes some pretty interesting references to the Black Death to represent the flayed (spread of infection)- exactly like the metaphor used by this translation to symbolize the "raging plague" devasting Thebes (ie Hawkins). It's not a coincidence that all of this started with rats- which are often associated with the vector of spread:

Also- "his lighting slashing through us" and "plague-storm" (also I love the pink looking eyes looking down at Mike, who is dead center of the shot).

Oedipus is then informed that the cause of this curse is a murder- "murder sets the plague-storm on the city"- specifically the murder of their former king Laius, unknown to Oedipus is his father. And that he was the one who had killed his father.

"Pay the killers back- whoever is responsible" ah yes hello fredmiketedvictorhenry serial killer parallels (link to my post about this). It is clear now in the play the only way to end this "curse" on Thebes is to either kill or banish the "source".

Also I promo of tfs has said that it may reveal the "key" to the end which is ummm inch resting for sure. love the fact,,, that they,,, are both plays,,,,

We get references to Hawkins being cursed:

And I've come to accept an awful truth. These murders are ritualistic sacrifices. We've all heard how satanic cults are spreading through our country like some… some disease. And Eddie Munson is the leader of one of these cults. A cult that operates here in Hawkins. The mall fire. All those unexplained deaths over the years. Some people say our town is cursed. They just don't know why. Now… Now we do. Now we know. They call themselves Hellfire. A club. A club. A harmless club. That's what they want you to think. But it's a lie. A lie designed to conceal the truth. And now this cult is protecting its leader, Eddie (Note: Edward). Hiding him. Allowing him to… to continue his rampage.

Which brings me to Tiresias.

Victor Creel as Tiresias, The Blind Seer

While Victor isn't a one to one parallel to Tiresias but they serve similar purposes in the story.

He says this demon has cursed their town. "I could sense this demon" and "blind as you are you can feel all the more what sickness haunts our city".

Oedipus even accuses Tiresias of having committed the murder himself "given eyes", which goes no where in the play but as we all know Victor was wrongfully imprisoned for the murder of his family while still believing in this demon he could sense:

Again, the two characters don't really have much in canon other than the fact they are both used to point out the truth that is inevitably denied and turned onto them to some extent. Also lol i just think its neat:

Which makes me think the murders also may involve Alice and Virginia but not quite sure.

The Demobats that Killed Eddie- Furies?

The Furies (or Erinyes, sing. Erinys) were creatures from Greek mythology who exacted divine retribution from those guilty of wrong-doing. Crimes which were especially likely to incur their wrath were those involving one's family and anything related to oaths. The Furies were also responsible for carrying out curses, and the punishments they dealt out included disease and madness. 

While Eddie was innocent, there is much subtext he delivers on the "murderer" in question. One interesting part of the play is when Oedipus being metaphorically chased by the Furies (as in the truth is near to being revealed) is described:

"and the grim unerring Furies closing in for the kill"... "the dark wings beating around him shrieking doom".

While there is really no official way to portray the furies, authors often gave them different animalistic traits (including bat wings). At least in here they are described as having "dark wings" which follows with many modern portrayals of the Furies as having bat wings or just wings in general.

Why Does Vecna's Curse Involve Getting Ones Eyes Gouged Out Like Oedipus?

I think the play's own description really speaks to it. Being confronted with the "truth", as Vecna says "holding mirror up" to his victims, to the point where there is no hope as in "What good were eyes to me? Nothing I could ever see brings me joy."

Vecna does this repeatedly, showing his victims their real living situations: Max and her guilt over Billy's death, Chrissy and Patrick with their abusive household, and Fred with this guilt over him accidentally killing a classmate. However, the way to escape his grasp is to see the light (often symbolized by sunlight and hence why all the vecna deaths happened during night time except for Vecnas failed attempt with Max) and run towards it. Anything that could possibly keep you going while struggling with trauma and mental illness. However, when you're blind you live in darkness- you cannot see the light.

With Oedipus, however, this "lie" he lived in was so pervasive and all encompassing that the truth was enough to destroy everything that he had built, thinking that he had avoided his fate of marrying his own mother and killing his father. When in reality, everything he had, down to even his children, was only further proof of his "curse".

The Tragic Dynasty of Thebes

... They articulate what we had earlier on heard in a concealed fashion, through cryptic words of Ismene, Creon and the chorus members, namely the history of the family, especially that of Oedipus: once a powerful king and hailed as savior of Thebes, Antigone’s father Oedipus discovered that he had in fact murdered his father Laius, slept with his mother Jocasta and had four children with her. At the realization of his unwitting crimes, Jocasta killed herself in the house, and Oedipus took his own life soon after (in this play). All had started one generation earlier, with Laius’ falling out of favor with the divine and bringing a ‘Curse’ upon the family. This lasting effect of the Curse can be seen in the recent mutual killing of Antigone’s brothers, Eteocles and Polynices, over the rule of Thebes. What is this Curse, however, under the effect of which so many members of the family are presented to act? Is it something that operates independently of the characters? Are the characters just passive victims of it? Not exactly: a force like a Curse in Greek tragedy operates on both a psychological and a divine level, and these are not mutually exclusive. In tragic texts, Curses are usually attributed to families and are spatially located in the house of those families, the dark interior space which in many plays broods in the background. In this way, the psychopathology of a family, that inner power that pervades members of the family, generation after generation, and both pushes them to their actions but also ensures the punishments they suffer, is captured by that highly significant space – the house.

And if you want to know how King Laius fell out of favor with the divine and directly began this curse on his family (according to Euripides, not Sophocles, but any source you find online- like Wikipedia- will likely merge the two together as under one continuous story):

Laius fell in love with Pelops' son, Chrysippus. He lured Chrysippus out of town and raped him, then fled back to Thebes as Pelops cursed him for his transgression. When he returned, his father's successors to the throne of Thebes were dead, and the Thebans had Laius ascend to the vacant throne, where he married Jocasta. An oracle informed him that he would be killed by his own son, and, as a result, Laius refrained from intercourse with his wife, until one night, in a drunken rage, he had intercourse with her anyway.

"The myth of Chrysippus, the bastard son of Pelops who was loved and forcibly seized by Laius, while showing him how to drive a chariot. The boy later committed suicide out of shame over his violation, and Pelops cursed Laius with childlessness, as one unworthy to come into contact with children... one detail of Euripides’ plot needs to be emphasized: both Aelian and the Byzantine hypothesis to the Phoenissae tell us that in Euripides, Laius was the first pederast among mankind" (History's First Child Molester: Euripides' Chrysippus and The Marginalization of Pederastry in Athenian Democratic Discourse, Thomas K. Hubbard). <- yeah, academic paper because im a big dork but also i don't trust wikipedia and I dont go on the internet to just tell lies

so free my man Oedipus he did nothing wrong.

Regardless, with that context it's easy to see how the Curse began (putting aside the massive complexity/inconsistency of ancient Greek plays). It began with with a horrific wrong doing of one member ("spawn of Satan" hue hue) and that spread down to his descendants, and in their own actions, giving them tragic ends with the "home" representing the dark past (oh hello Wheeler home being reminiscent of the Creel home). Putting the more specific details aside of Chrysippus and Oedipus Rex, the way these myths can be taken as inspiration for for realistic portrayals of The Cycles (tm) is interesting.

Especially since we can very clearly see this with the case of Billy, who was seemingly quite a sweet boy before his mother abandoned him and left him to be abused and influenced by his father, then went on to abuse the next weakest person he could find: Max. Also not a coincidence that his mother bore a resemblance to a newly blonde Karen.

Or how Will and Jonathan bear no resemblance personality wise to their father, as they have always been supported and loved by their mother, Joyce. Or Karen, with Mike who has two separate moments of "blinding" himself in s4 (the sunglasses in the airport and the pizza box glasses) and El being choked on front of the rose door (like Jocasta had hung herself)...

... making it clear that she wasn't going to let him go at the end of s4 nor would she be happy to see him gone.

(is it a coincidence that when we see Rose Weaver and Ruth Walker, they are visiting a hospital for the mentally ill in, according to Robin, "easter" (christian holiday) clothing? Kill your father and marry your mother lmao?)

Or Virginia, who opted to abandon Henry, believing that he was born broken rather than looking in the mirror to see her own quality as a parent and her own "flaws", causing her to put her son in the arms of a "predator" like Brenner. It's clear that the lesson here is that the cycle of harm can be broken when a child knows that they are loved and supported, and a society that believes a child can be born evil or broken due to "unusual" qualities (such as autism) only enables it. It's a tragedy to put it simply.

Hell, Vladimir Nabokov points this out it Lolita:

"... for in this poignant personal study there lurks a general lesson; the wayward child, the egotistic mother, the panting maniac- these are not only vivid characters in a unique story: they warn us of dangerous trends; they point out potent evils."

^ This isn't necessarily relevant to Oedipus but I just like the quote. Its a good quote. Very relevant.

if you could change one thing in a plot what would it be? rossi being canon racist in his youth.. but if we’re talking more major (?) plot points i think maeve’s death - everyone agrees spencer suffers by far the most trauma throughout the years and i think it would’ve been nice for maeve to have survived and for her and spencer’s relationship to have progressed further, just to add a little sprinkle of consistent joy into his life :(

favourite episode? again crazy difficult but i have to say 100.. literally not a day goes by where i don’t think about that episode, it’s television and acting perfection (thomas being the most talented actor ever strikes again) bonus #2: seven seconds (the one where the aunt is the unsub of the girl that goes missing in the mall) is also perfection, the tension throughout it is insane, i could write essays about it

why did you start watching the show? one of my school friends loved it and convinced me to watch it bc a family friend had given us her prime video log in but i only got through season 1 until i got logged out so i went two years without watching it until i subscribed to disney+ at the start of this year and picked up where i left off

have you watched criminal minds more than once? i finished my first watch-through a month ago and i went straight into rewatching it all the next day! so i’m currently at s3 on my first rewatch :)

what is the most heartbreaking scene from the show? the entirety of 100 is the obvious answer for me but also when derek faces his abuser (both times) and ofc “he was alive yesterday?”.. mgg your directing destroys me

favourite scene? too many.. any moments between hotch and jack, jj’s wedding, emily’s return from death, derek telling spencer that hank’s middle name is spencer ❤️‍🩹

Pride and Prejudice (2005) - it's THE comfort movie for me, like if i could only watch one movie for the rest of my life i would choose this one, it is everything to me from the very first to the very last moment

Dirty Dancing - the one movie my mum and i can always agree on shdkfd another comfort movie that i love dearly (i carried a watermelon truly scene of all time)

The Lord of the Rings trilogy - technically three movies i know but they HAVE to be on the list, they have been a part of the fabric of my life since i watched the first one for the first time at the tender age of seven and it changed me on a fundamental level (i didn't really understand what was going on naturally but boromir's death scene was seared into my brain)

books:

Masters of the Air by Donald Miller - a book about the american bomber boys in wwii. i read it because i watched the hbo series and i normally don't really read a lot of non-fiction outside of what i have to read for uni but this one was so phenomenal i decided i need to do that more often (even if it took me one and a half months to finish it lmao)

In Memoriam by Alice Winn - a book about two boys at an english boarding school who are best friends and also secretly in love with each other but are too scared to act on it. except then the first world war happens and their world is changed forever. this one was SO good and SO heartbreaking and SO well written. it was really hard to read at times - think All Quiet on the Western Front, reading about the hell soldiers went through in the trenches was tough - but i really cannot recommend it enough

Die vierzig Tage des Musa Dagh by Franz Werfel - this is the one i'm currently reading, it's about an armenian family that is caught up in the armenian genocide in 1915-1917. i haven't come that far yet but the writing is so vivid and captivating i already know it will break my heart more than one time

Rome!!!!! it's honestly such a shame that i haven't been yet, i've been reading and learning so much about its history through my school years and academic career so far, i really really want to see it in person one of these days

The Netherlands hehe, i've got a friend there i want to visit <3

The Arctic!! doesn't really matter where as long as it's north of the arctic circle, i really wanna experience it because i've been in love with that region ever since i was a little kid (and i'd also love to see the northern lights!!)

this one's most likely never gonna happen but if i had the money i'd love to go on hikes in several of the big US national parks, the scenery is amazing!!!!!

Guédelon Castle in France, it's an experimental archaeology project where they're constructing a 13th century castle using only techniques and materials from that time, they started in 1997 (!) and are aiming to finish sometime in 2030 (i think) and it's just really really cool
