Going through someone's blog and seeing two posts, like...4 days apart ? Of:

Post a: neurotypical people don't understand how much of a struggle it is to listen to them talk about stuff I don't care about :( I wish it was socially acceptable to tell them I'm not interested, ever.

Post b: honestly hurts so much when you can tell someone doesn't care about your special interest. :(

I just want to cup your face and go, "please reread those and let's talk about social kindness"

I did block them, I think I am reaching a friggin... point break over here. I have been weird all my life, I was an EXTREMELY lonely child, and if someone wanted to tell me about their pet lizard I would have died happy, and if they had listened to me talk about the time Kate Harony burned down a barn to get doc out of prison, my tiny child heart would have burst. Like, that's give and take.

I've been trying to express this deep deep SCRATCH of irritation for weeks now, and I think a closer step to it, is... neurotypical, if we believe anyone is, people, also have feelings and needs and preferences. They ALSO get to decide what they can and can't live with.

I have a pretty classic and overwhelming strain of ADHD. Though, I feel less and less like saying the word for it matters, and get closer and closer to identifying as Fucking Weird. My mother is broadly neurotypical. She gets to have her feelings be hurt if I don't want to hear about her and her boyfriend's day at Costco. That's what she did with her day. She wants to tell me. I owe her that if I want to talk about my run, for example. I listen to jetty talk about coding even though I legitimately don't understand. I try and follow along!

I get tired of the idea that you don't ever have to put effort into relationships, and if you do, they aren't good relationships. And this attendant idea that being nice is masking behavior when it's you, but it's just kindness when it's other people doing it.

If it is true that you don't owe anyone anything, then the reverse is also true. No one owes you anything. This is not how I want to live.

There are things I do that are basically harmless: I have a lot of trouble sitting still, I'm twitchy and startle easily, and a million other small things that as it turns out I'm actually not going to mention because I don't like attention being drawn to them and i hate it when people notice, and I know they do.

None of those things really affect other people.

There are also things I do that are anywhere from annoying to harmful: I forget things, I interrupt people,* I sometimes zone out and lose the thread of whatever was going on.

If I love people, and I want them to love me, I have to treat them with that love as much as is possible. If I forget something, and make someone feel rejected, that is true whether or not I can pin a diagnosis to their lives. I hate to say it, but, "treat people as you would like to be treated" is often a very good guideline. Do you want someone to listen to you talk about the video game you really love? Then you should listen to them talk about Crossfit. Or, I guess the secret third option is, maybe you don't want to be friends, but that, too, is a choice.

I've been working with my three year old on conversation, and we've come up with things you can ask people if you'd like to get to know them better. Her current favorites are "What's your favorite animal?" and "what's your favorite color of crayon?" I think these are both great topics for a three year old. I want to teach her that if she wants people to talk to her and be engaged with her, she will have to give them the same.

This is true of everyone. Everyone has feelings. Everyone has interests and thoughts and preferences. I cannot emphasize enough how important I think it is to remember that life is a chorus, and none of us are the soloist. We are here for each other. Other people are not your backing vocals.

*this is also a cultural issue, though. I don't actually experience problems with this in some circles.

Faedah Hadits Hari ini:

قال رسول الله ﷺ :

"منْ شَابَ شَيْبَةً فِي الْإِسْلَامِ، كَانَتْ لَهُ نُورًا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ." رواه ابن حبان (2983)، وصححه الشيخ الألباني

Rosuululloohu Shollalloohu'alaihi wa Sallam Bersabda: “Barang Siapa Yang BERUBAN di Dalam Islam, Maka Baginya CAHAYA Pada Hari Kiamat”. (HR. Ibnu Hibban: 2983 dan Dishohihkan oleh Al-Albani)

JANGAN CABUT UBANMU! KARENA ITU ADALAH CAHAYAMU

Alhamdulillaahi wa sholaatu wa salaamu ‘ala Rosulillaahi wa ‘ala 'alihi wa shohbihi wa sallam. Sangat wajar jika Seseorang menginjak Usia senjata, muncul pada Kepala, Wajah atau Jenggotnya Rambut Putih, alias Uban. Itulah fase kehidupan yang akan dilewati oleh Setiap Insan Sebagaimana Firman Alloohu Ta’aalaa,

"اللَّهُ الَّذِي خَلَقَكُم مِّن ضَعْفٍ ثُمَّ جَعَلَ مِن بَعْدِ ضَعْفٍ قُوَّةً ثُمَّ جَعَلَ مِن بَعْدِ قُوَّةٍ ضَعْفاً وَشَيْبَةً يَخْلُقُ مَا يَشَاءُ وَهُوَ الْعَلِيمُ الْقَدِيرُ."

“Allooh, Dialah Yang Menciptakan Kamu Dari Keadaan kemah, Kemudian Dia Menjadikan (Kamu) Sesudah Keadaan Lemah Itu Menjadi Kuat, Kemudian Dia Menjadikan (Kamu) Sesudah Kuat Itu Lemah (Kembali) Dan BERUBAN. Dia Menciptakan Apa Yang Dikehendaki-Nya Dan Dialah Yang Maha Mengetahui Lagi Maha Kuasa.” (QS. Ar Ruum: 54)

Kadang Kala memang Kita Ingin Menghilangkannya, Mencabutnya, atau Mengganti Warnanya dengan warna lain. Namun alangkah bagusnya jika setiap tindak-tanduk Kita Didasari dengan Ilmu agar Kita tidak sampai terjerumus dalam Kesalahan dan Dosa. Sebuah Petuah Bagus dari Mu’adz bin Jabal -rodhiyalloohu 'anhu- yang harus Senantiasa Kita Ingat:

"العِلْمُ إِمَامُ العَمَلِ وَالعَمَلُ تَابِعُهُ."

"Ilmu adalah Pemimpin Amal dan Amalan Berada di Belakang Ilmu.” (Al Amru bil Maruf wan Nahyu anil Mungkar, Ahmad bin ‘Abdul Halim Al Haroni, hal. 15)

Jadi dalam Masalah UBAN Ini, Marilah Kita Ikuti Petunjuk Syari’at Islam yang Suci nan Sempurna. Dengan Mengikuti Petunjuk Inilah Seseorang akan Menuai Kebahagiaan. Sebaliknya, Jika Enggan Mengikutinya, Hanya Mau Memperturutkan Hawa Nafsu Semata dan Menuruti Perkataan Manusia yang Mencocoki Hawa Nafsunya Tanpa Ada Dasarnya dari Nabi Shollalloohu ‘alaihi wa Sallam, Niscaya Orang Seperti Ini Akan Binasa. Alloohu Ta’aalaa Berfirman,

"وَإِنْ تُطِيعُوهُ تَهْتَدُوا وَمَا عَلَى الرَّسُولِ إِلَّا الْبَلَاغُ الْمُبِينُ."

“Dan Jika Kamu Ta'at Kepadanya (Rosuulullooh), Niscaya Kamu Mendapat Petunjuk. Dan Tidak Lain Kewajiban Rosul Itu Melainkan Menyampaikan (Amanat Alloohu Ta'aalaa) Dengan Terang.” (QS. An Nur: 54)

Rosuululloohu Shollalloohu ‘alaihi wa Sallam Bersabda,

"فَعَلَيْكُمْ بِسُنَّتِى وَسُنَّةِ الْخُلَفَاءِ الرَّاشِدِينَ الْمَهْدِيِّينَ عَضُّوا عَلَيْهَا بِالنَّوَاجِذِ."

“Berpegangteguhlah Dengan Aaranku Dan Sunnah Khulafa’ur Rosyidin Yang Mendapatkan Petunjuk (dalam Ilmu dan Amalan). Pegang Teguhlah Ajaran Tersebut Dengan Gigi Geraham Kalian.” (HR. Abu Daud, At Tirmidzi, Ibnu Majah, Ibnu Hibban. At Tirmidizi mengatakan hadits ini hasan shohih. Syaikh Al Albani mengatakan hadits ini shohih. Lihat Shohih At Targhib wa At Tarhib no. 37)

Salah Seorang Khulafa’ur Rosyidin dan Manusia Terbaik Setelah Nabi Shollalloohu ‘alaihi wa Sallam, Abu Bakar Ash-Shiddiq -rodhiyalloohu ‘anhu- meyngatakan,

"لَسْتُ تَارِكًا شَيْئًا كَانَ رَسُوْلُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ سَلَّمَ يَعْمَلُ بِهِ إِلَّا عَمِلْتُ بِهِ إِنِّي أَخْشَى إِنْ تَرَكْتُ شَيْئًا مِنْ أَمْرِهِ أَنْ أَزِيْغَ."

”Aku Tidaklah Biarkan Satupun Yang Rosuululloohu Shollalloohu ‘alaihi wa Sallam Amalkan Kecuali Aku Mengamalkannya Karena Aku Takut Jika Meninggalkannya Sedikit Saja, Aku Akan Menyimpang.” (HR. Bukhori dan Muslim)

Ulama yang sudah Tersohor namanya di tengah-tengah Kita, yakni Imam Syafi’i -rohimahullooh- Mengatakan,

"أجمع المسلمون على أن من استبان له سنة عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم لم يحل له أن يدعها لقول أحد."

“Kaum Muslimin Sepakat Bahwa Siapa Saja Yang Telah Jelas Baginya Ajaran Rosuululloohu Shollalloohu ‘alaihi wa Sallam, Maka Tidak Halal Baginya Untuk Meninggalkannya Karena Perkataan Yang Lainnya.” (Lihat Al Haditsu Hujjatun bi Nafsihi fil ‘Aqoid wal Ahkam, Muhammad Nashiruddin Al Albani, hal. 79, Asy Syamilah)

UBAN adalah CAHAYA Bagi SEORANG MUKMIN

Al Baihaqi -rohimahullooh- Membawakan sebuah Pasal dengan judul “larangan mencabut uban”. Lalu di dalamnya Beliau Membawakan Hadits dari ‘Abdullooh bin ‘Umar -roḍhiyalloohu 'anhuma-. Rosuululloohu Shollalloohu ‘alaihi wa Sallam Bersabda,

"الشيب نور المؤمن لا يشيب رجل شيبة في الإسلام إلا كانت له بكل شيبة حسنة و رفع بها درجة."

“UBAN adalah CAHAYA bagi SEORANG MUKMIN. Tidaklah Seseorang BERUBAN –walaupun sehelai- Dalam Islam Melainkan Setiap UBANNYA Akan Dihitung Sebagai SUATU KEBAIKAN dan Akan MENINGGIKAN DERAJATNYA.” (HR. Al Baihaqi dalam Syu’abul Iman. Syaikh Al Albani dalam Al Jami’ Ash Shogir mengatakan bahwa hadits ini hasan)

Muhammad bin Hibban At Tamimi rohimahullooh- yang lebih dikenal dengan Ibnu Hibban- dalam Kitab Shohihnya Menyebutkan Pembahasan “Hadits yang menceritakan bahwa Alloohu Ta'aalaa akan mencatat Kebaikan dan menghapuskan Kesalahan serta akan Meninggikan Derajat Seorang Muslim karena UBAN Yang Dia Jaga di Dunia.” Lalu Ibnu Hibban membawakan Hadits berikut. Dari Abu Huroiroh-roḍhiyalloohu 'anhu-, Rosuululloohu Shollalloohu ‘alaihi wa Sallam Bersabda,

"لا تنتفوا الشيب فإنه نور يوم القيامة ومن شاب شيبة في الإسلام كتب له بها حسنة وحط عنه بها خطيئة ورفع له بها درجة."

“Janganlah Mencabut UBAN karena UBAN adalah CAHAYA Pada Hari Kiamat Nanti. Siapa Saja Yang Beruban Dalam Islam Walaupun Sehelai, Maka dengan UBAN Itu akan Dicatat Baginya Satu Kebaikan, Dengan UBAN Itu akan Dihapuskan Kesalahan, Juga Dengannya akan Ditinggikan Derajatnta.” (HR. Ibnu Hibban dalam Shohihnya. Syaikh Syu’aib Al Arnauth mengatakan bahwa sanad hadits ini hasan)

UBAN TIDAK BOLEH DICABUT

Dari ‘Amr bin Syu’aib, dari Ayahnya, dari Kakeknya -roḍhiyalloohu 'anhum- Berkata, bahwa Rosuululloohu Shollalloohu ‘alaihi wa Sallam Bersabda,

"لَا تَنْتِفُوا الشَّيْبَ مَا مِنْ مُسْلِمٍ يَشِيبُ شَيْبَةً فِي الْإِسْلَامِ إِلَّا كَانَتْ لَهُ نُورًا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ."

“Janganlah Mencabut UBAN. Tidaklah Seorang Muslim Yang BERUBAN Dalam Islam Walaupun Sehelai, Melainkan UBAN Tersebut Akan Menjadi CAHAYA Baginya Pada Hari Kiamat Nanti.” (HR. Abu Daud dan An Nasa’i. Syaikh Al Albani dalam Al Jami’ Ash-Shogir mengatakan bahwa hadits ini shohih)

Hukuman bagi Orang yang MENCABUT UBANNYA adalah KEHILANGAN CAHAYA Pada Hari Kiamat Nanti. Dari Fudholah bin ‘Ubaid -roḍhiyalloohu 'anhu-, Nabi Shollalloohu ‘alaihi wa Sallam Bersabda,

"مَنْ شَابَ شَيْبَةً فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ كَانَتْ نُورًا لَهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ عِنْدَ ذَلِكَ فَإِنَّ رِجَالًا يَنْتِفُونَ الشَّيْبَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ شَاءَ فَلْيَنْتِفْ نُورَهُ."

“Barangsiapa Memiliki UBAN di Jalan Allooh Walaupun Hanya Sehelai, Maka UBAN Tersebut Akan Menjadi CAHAYA Baginya Pada Hari Kiamat.” Kemudian ada Seseorang yang Berkata ketika disebutkan hal ini: “Orang-orang Pada MENCABUT UBANNYA.” Rosuululloohu Shollalloohu ‘alaihi wa Sallam lantas Bersabda, “Siapa Saja Yang Ingin, Maka Silahkan Dia Memotong CAHAYA (Baginya di Hari Kiamat).” (HR. Al Bazzar, At Thobroni dalam Al Kabir dan Al Awsath dari Riwayat Ibnu Luhai’ah, namun sanad lainnya tsiqoh –terpercaya-. Syaikh Al Albani dalam Shohih At Targib wa At Tarhib mengatakan bahwa hadits ini hasan)

Perkataan Nabi Shollalloohu ‘alaihi wa sallam: “Siapa Saja Yang Ingin, Maka Silahkan Dia Memotong CAHAYA (Baginya di Hari Kiamat)”; Tidak Menunjukkan Bolehnya MENCABUT UBAN, Namun Ini Bermakna Ancaman.

Rambut UBAN Mana Yang DILARANG DICABUT? Larangan MENCABUT UBAN Mencakup UBAN Yang Berada di Kumis, Jenggot, Alis, dan Kepala. (Al Jami’ Li Ahkami Ash Sholat, Muhammad ‘Abdul Lathif ‘Uwaidah, 1/218, Asy Syamilah)

Apa HUKUM Mencabut UBAN, Apakah Haram ataukah Makruh? Para Ulama Malikiyah, Syafi’iyah, dan Hanabilah Berpendapat bahwa MENCABUT UBAN adalah Makruh. Abu Dzakaria Yahya bin Syarf An Nawawi -rohimahullooh- Mengatakan,

“Mencabut UBAN Dimakruhkan Berdasarkan Hadits dari ‘Amr bin Syu’aib dari Ayahnya dari Kakeknya. … Para Ulama Syafi’iyah Mengatakan bahwa MENCABUT UBAN adalah Makruh dan hal ini ditegaskan sebagaimana penjelasan yang telah lewat. Al Baghowi dan Selainnya Mengatakan bahwa Seandainya Mau Dikatakan Haram KARENA Adanya Larangan Tegas Mengenai Hal Ini, Maka Ini Juga Benar dan Tidak Mustahil. Dan Tidak Ada Bedanya antara Mencabut UBAN yang ada di Jenggot dan Kepala (yaitu Sama-sama Terlarang). (Al Majmu’ Syarh Al Muhadzdzab, 1/292-293, Mawqi’ Ya’sub)

Namun Jika UBAN Tersebut Terdapat di Jenggot atau pada Rambut yang Tumbuh di Wajah, maka Hukumnya Jelas Haram KARENA Perbuatan Tersebut Termasuk An Namsh Yang Dilaknat. Dari Ibnu Mas’ud -rodhiyallahu ‘anhu-, Nabi Shollalloohu ‘alaihi wa Sallam Bersabda,

"لعن الله الربا و آكله و موكله و كاتبه و شاهده و هم يعلمون و الواصلة و المستوصلة و الواشمة و المستوشمة و النامصة و المتنمصة."

“Allooh Melaknat Riba, Pemakan Riba (Rentenir), Orang Yang Menyerahkannya (Nasabah), Orang Yang Mencatatnya (Sekretaris) dan Yang Menjadi Saksi Dalam Keadaan Mereka Mengetahui (bahwa itu Riba). Allooh juga Melaknat Orang Yang Menyambung Rambutnya dan Yang Meminta Disambungkan Rambutnya, Orang Yang Mentato dan Yang Meminta Ditato, BEGITU PULA ORANG YANG MENCABUT RAMBUT PADA WAJAH dan YANG MEMINTA DICABUT.” (Diriwayatkan dalam Musnad Ar Robi’ bin Habib. Syaikh Al Albani dalam Al Jami’ Ash Shogir mengatakan bahwa hadits ini shohih)

Syaikh Muhammad bin Sholih Al Utsaimin -rohimahullooh- Mengatakan, “Adapun MENCABUT UBAN dari JENGGOT atau UBAN dari RAMBUT Yang Tumbuh di Wajah, maka Perbuatan Seperti Ini DIHARAMKAN Karena Termasuk An Namsh. An Namsh adalah MENCABUT RAMBUT Yang Tumbuh di Wajah dan Jenggot. AH, my tattoo rules!

First off, let me say these are for people named Doc who are me and my God could I care less how you festoon your animated pre-corpse? I just!1 Could not!

But, for people named Doc who are me, there are a small handful of rules:

I have to sit on it for three years.

It has to be in a place that can be easily covered by a short sleeved sundress. Ideally, sure, people wouldn't ask questions about your tattoos, but I often go by the ruling of "Dream of the world you'd like but in the meantime, get real" and so if i don't want to field questions--and I basically never do--it has to be something I can cover easily.

This is the hardest rule: Any fandom or hobby tattoo has not be easily identifiable as such, and it has to look cool even if I fall out of love with the thing. I have Doc's Colt Lightning in a shoulder carry on my ribcage. No one sane can identify it as Doc's gun, and it looks cool as hell. My next tattoo, that I need to make an appt for, is Kate Harony's Colt house Pistol on my thigh, looking like it's tied with a leather strap. That will also, look cool, in the odd event I stop liking what I've liked since I was 8. So, while I CONSTANTLY kick around getting some kinda harumichi tattoo, the BEST I have come up with so far is getting a sprinkling of rose petals down the top of my leg a la these two's loser shit (affectionate)

I would also like the idea of a Lena tattoo, but that's even HARDER. I've hit on a NEARLY okay idea, but by and large it's nothing I'm happy with.

our dear boy Johnry is of course a forever favourite, and there’s a Tinder thing I want to write soon (though probably not until after long love’s day) that hits on some things the other stories haven’t gotten into but that I’ve thought about a lot, and there are some special moments in it for Johnry that I’m very excited to write. He’s a little older than I’ve written him before, but he still claims his right to be academically eccentric

honestly I did not expect to write him as much as I have. He came into existence in the first place just because I wanted Erik to have a friend other than Nadir, and it amused me for that friend to be a Doc Holliday enthusiast (which is also why he’s involved with both Kate and Morgan — I named her for Kate Harony, Doc’s on-again-off-again girlfriend, and him for Morgan Earp because I read a fic once shipping him with Doc and it struck me as intriguing). Of course Doc Holliday enthusiast has become a general tubercular doctor enthusiast, which suits him and me just fine.

He is a soft boy who is extremely bi and frequently an emotional wreck and will take spur of the moment trips to places of significance to those he is academically and emotionally attahched to but they won’t be completely spur of the moment because he will have thought them through in some detail. Like westerns and whiskey but also fine wines and herb liqueurs and dusty books of historical analysis. Feels most alive with primary sources in his hands. Has a seemingly endless supply of black ties with white dots, and hair dyes depending on his moods. Cannot actually play music, but recites Auden from memory and gets weepy over it.

10/10 a boy to make scones and drink chartreuse and lie under the stars feeling reflectively melancholy
